1. We need to write letter.
2. Then stick it in an envelop and stamp it.
Then we go to the postbox to drop our letter.
3. Postman collects all the letters from
postbox.
4. Then postman delivers it to our friend.
Some drawback of that
• It is too time taking (write-post it-postman takes it-goes to the
location-handover)
• No guarantee about delivery
• Takes more time depending upon the distance etc….
We can do so many think on internet. Like, Play our favorite video
game, learn recipes of our favorite dish and so on.
It really helped revolutionize our lives.
Technical stuff that makes internet work:
• Message exchange
• Multiple access
• Verification
• Authentication
• Integrity
• Security etc…
Users don’t even realize it…
Internet protocol do all those things.
These all are helping us from last 20 years and so on..
We sat in front of the computer all day. We had that much patience.
Now a days we are become lazy and want everything more easily.
We now want to access the internet from our mobile devices. Like
smartphones, tablets etc. so we can carry internet with us everywhere
we want.
That’s why group of people did research and give a solution of this
problem by introducing Mobile IP.
Mobile IP allows users to be free to move around.
Formal Definition: Mobile IP is the standard that allows
users using mobile devices whose IP is associated with one
network to stay connected when moving to another network.
The people who created the IP forgot something
They designed IP for the
locator and identifier of the
node and then they binding
them together.
But Mobile IP separate that
binding.
Locator Identifier
Terminologies
Mobile Node: is a device that moves from home network to foreign network.
Home Address: is a permanent address of the mobile node. It is also the address of the mobile
node in its original network.
Home Network: is the original network that the mobile node associated with before moving to
a new network.
Home Agent: this node in the home network, is responsible for forwarding messages to mobile
node, when it is out side of its home network.
F
Foreign Network: is a new network that mobile node visits.
C Care-of-address: is the new address of the mobile node in the foreign network.
Correspondent node: is any node that help to send messages to the mobile devices when it is
outside it’s home network.
Mobile IP must take into some consideration
Session Continuity: means that the communication must flow
without interruption even was mobile node is moving from its
home network to the foreign network.
Reachability: means that the communication must be possible
wherever the mobile node is located, that means it is in the home
network or in the foreign network.
When the host changes his point of attachment.
Imagine mobile node is
associated with one access
node then it moves his
association to another access
point.
When the network change the point of attachment.
Think about the train that has
WI-FI connection. The actual
train is a network and as it moves
along the trail it gives changes its
association.
Communication session is transferred from one location to the other.
Imagine you are watching movie on your
smart phone and when you reach your
home you want to continue watching it
on your television. This is an example of
Session mobility.
