A mobile app is a software application designed to run on smartphones, tablets and other mobile devices. They are usually distributed through app stores operated by the mobile operating system owner, like Apple App Store, Google Play, Windows Phone Store. Popular mobile apps include social networking apps, games, news/weather apps. Developing mobile apps faces difficulties like different mobile models/OS, spam messages, copyright issues, testing apps on different devices, unclear payment systems. Developers can make money from mobile apps by selling them on app stores and websites, cooperating with mobile operators and portals, promoting through fan pages and forums, or selling directly to organizations. Location-based services use a device's location to provide information services and increase social networking interaction

Uber's Market Strategy - An example of modern day business modelsRahul Shaha
This is a presentation on Uber's two-sided market strategy. Tools suchas the Porter's 5 Forces, Business Model Canvas and PESTEL analysis have been used.
Almost every other person have once faced
rejection from an arrogant auto/taxi driver.
Now, who has the time to search,
convince and bargain with the driver
when you are already late for a meeting or to catch your train?
However, every person these days prefers a comfortable ride over the tiny auto rickshaws/ crowded
buses to their destination.
With the massive progression in traditional Industries,
there is a great solution available for the people which
help to eliminate all the hassle of travelling.
The On-demand Cab Booking app is the modern solution for all the travel problems.
Event specialist, Cheryl Lawson, shares how she created the Event Planning Tools App.
As an instructor of event and meeting management, I have the opportunity to see the tools to which my students gravitate. Most of them are drawn to ‘make my life easier tools.’ When I asked them to ‘create a budget’, they would download the same Microsoft template.
One of my ‘make my life easier tools’ is the meeting space calculator.
After I decided to create an app, it was an easy decision to bring these tools to a mobile platform.
I’ve created a list of steps to help other professionals create their own apps.

The main objective of this project is to avoid the congestion in the car parking area by implementing a parking management system. Normally at public places such as multiplex theaters, market areas, hospitals, function-halls, offices and shopping malls, one experiences the discomfort in looking out for a vacant parking slot, though it’s a paid facility with an attendant/ security guard. The parking management system is proposed to demonstrate hazel free parking for 32 cars, with 16 slots on each of the two floors. The proposed system uses 32 infrared transmitter-receiver pairs that remotely communicate the status of parking occupancy to the microcontroller system and displays the vacant slots on the display at the entrance of the parking so that the user gets to know the availability /unavailability of parking space prior to his/her entry into the parking place. In this system the users are guided to the vacant slot for parking using Bi-colored LEDs and the ultrasonic sensors enable the drivers to park the vehicle safely. The parking charges are automatically deducted from the user’s account using RFID technology. From security point of view a daily log-book of entry/exit along with the vehicle details is also registered in the computer’s memory.Implementation of concept of green communication and exception handling facility make the system concept unique and innovative.
Ride Sharing, Congestion, and the Need for Real SharingJeffrey Funk
Current ride sharing services are not financially sustainable. Although they provide more convenience than do taxi services, they are experiencing massive losses because they have the same cost structure as do taxis and thus must compete through subsidies and lower wages. After all, they use the same vehicles, roads, and drivers, and only GPS algorithms and phones are new.
They also increase congestion. Just as more private vehicles or taxis on the road will increase congestion, more ride sharing vehicles also increase congestion.
These slides describe new ways to use the technologies of ride sharing to reduce congestion along with costs while at the same time keeping travel time low. This can be done through changing public transportation systems or allowing private companies to offer competing services. For instance, current bus services, whether they are private or public, need to use the algorithms, GPS, phones and other technologies of ride sharing to revise routes, schedules and the premises that currently underpin public transportation. There is no reason a bus should be certain size, stop every 200 meters, or follow the same route all day. Algorithms and phones enable new types of routes in which designers simultaneously minimize time travel and maximize number of passengers transported per vehicle.hour.
