What is Operating System(OS)?
 An Operating System(OS) is a very basic and essential
software to operate a system.
 An operating system is the most important
software that runs on a computer or mobile.
 It mange computer's memory, processes, and all of
its software and hardware.
 Without an Operating System, a System(Computer/Mobile)
is useless.
What is Mobile OS?
 A Mobile OS(Operating System) is a very basic and essential
software to operate a Mobile System.
 A Mobile OS is a software platform which is designed
specially for mobile to hande the devices like SmartPhone,
Tablet, PDA with lot of features and facilities.
 Example:
Android, iOS,Windows Mobile OS, Blackberry OS, Symbian
OS etc.
List of Mobile OSs
We’ve listed following eight different Mobile OSs-
 Android OS
 iOS
 Windows Phone OS
 BlackBerry OS
 Symbian OS
 webOS
 Firefox OS
 UbuntuTouch
N.B. - We’ll focus on Android OS, iOS,Windows Phone OS,
BlackBerry OS & Symbian OS to Compare.
Evolution of Mobile OSs
 1996 - 1998 – Palm OS launched upto 3.0Version [1]
 1999 – Blackberry Launched [2]
 2000 – Mircrosoft Pocket PC

Comparison On Mobile OS
Comparison in Case of Apps Availability
 Android OS
About 796,098 available apps according to AppBrain till
23 July, 2013. [7]
 iOS
About 900, 000 available apps according to an article by
Sam Costello till June 2013. [8]
 Windows Phone OS
145,000 available apps till May 2013 according to
Windows Phone Blog. [9]
Comparison Between Open Source and Close
Source
 Open Source: It’s open! The Codes of the system are transparent.
- Larger Developer Support
- Free Of Cost
- Community Support
- Security Issues
- Ex:Android
 Close Source: The Source Codes of the system are not open
- Premium Facilities
-Third Party Support
- Security Issues
- Ex: iOS
Advantages & Disadvantages of Android OS
Advantages
 Open Source
 Lots of Free apps available in Google Play Store
 Easy notification alerts
 Home ScreenWidget
 Linux Supports
Disadvantages
 Unstable and intended to crash then other Mobile OS
 Apps might have bugs & those can be exploited by hackers
 Linux Commands are must to act as a Administrator
 Root is must to Upgrade
 Root process can make the Phone Dead.
 Most of the apps are required Internet connection to work on.
 The apps can’t be downloaded through PC from Google Play Store
 Consumes the battery early.
Advantages & Disadvantages of iOS
Advantages

Advantages & Disadvantages of Windows
Phone OS
Advantages
 Beautiful UI ( Neat & Simple )
 Hubs ( Let’s to access all of user’s collection both in cloud
and locally )
 Microsoft’s Office
Disadvantages
• Lack Of Apps
• High Cost
Importance to know about the
Comparison among Mobile OSs
 To be aware what we need
 Which Mobile OS will give that Facility
 Check our preferences.
What we’re going to do more before Final
 Going on more deep on the Points we’ve represented in this
Presentation.
 Developed languages & IDE needs to develop.
 Architectural Comparison
 Hardware Level
 & will go through all the Points on rest of two Mobile
OS(BlackBerry OS & Symbian OS)
