Editor's Notes
Recently had a discussion with a friend about presenting at HR conferences about social media, and her advice was that everyone was a beginner. My apologies if this is too basic or underneath you.
I have a bottle of wine for the first person who can correctly fill in the blank.
In 1903, the president of Michigan Savings Bank advised Henry Ford’s lawyer not to invest in Ford Motor Company
Before we talk about specific tools, let’s just discuss the terms. Use Sarah as an example
London Science Museum survey of 3000 adults/exhibit about fresh water/1.sunshine 2. internet connection 3. clean drinking water 4. refrigerator 5. Facebook
Facebook is like a big barbeque or wedding or other social function. Not everyone knows everybody, lots of different things to do (games, talk friends, look at products)
A friend of mine who also speaks on social media says LI is the professional yellow pages of the social web. I think it’s like a lot of professional conferences: no one makes eye contact or does much talking or networking.
Twitter is like speed dating. Talk to someone or something, ring a bell, and go onto the next person. Repeat. Once you talk to the same people over and over, you get comfortable.
