Learning Strategies for Students
A learning strategy is a person s approach to learning and using information. Students use learning
strategies to help them understand information and solve problems. Students who do not know or use
good learning strategies will ultimately fail in school. Learning approach focuses on making student
learners more active, by teaching them how to learn and be successful.
My successes for teaching the Acquisition to Generalization Framework lesson to my student were
that I was able to get my student Rickey to buy into the strategy, of using the graphic organizer such as
the KWL chart. Once I began to rationalize with Rickey, to see the value of learning this approach, he
was more eager to learn how this approach could help him to become an effective learner. I was also
able to provide Rickey with feedback in a timely manner, and share with him the progress he made
while learning the strategy.
The improvements that I could have made while teaching the Acquisition to Generalization
Framework; was I needed to explain each of the steps to Rickey more thoroughly so that he could
have a better understanding of the approach. While I think, he understood most of the steps, and the
reason as to why the strategy is needed. Rickey will still be able to meet his goals of retelling a story
in a correct sequence beginning, middle and end with 100% accuracy on 8 out of 10 trials; and to
apply knowledge of word structure, and context clues to determine the meanings of unfamiliar words
at 80%

The Chosen Ones By Pablo Neruda Analysis
Resuscitation Pablo Neruda s poem The Chosen Ones is a perfect incorporation of torment and
influence, acting to sadden as well as impact the reader to influence further action against intolerance.
Neruda uses allusion when referencing the years of events of significant suffering that are important in
Cuban and world history, recalling his own first hand experiences himself, and the significance of
understanding these dates and events. Neruda uses a tone that is volatile, characterized by an increase
in imagery, especially of death and violence, as the piece goes on. Neruda uses a couplet at the end to
shift the poem from lengthy description of violence and death, to a sardonic reference of those who
were killed, operating as a call to action. This poem uses allusion, tone, and personification to
exemplify violence as a result of prejudice and their legacy forgotten. Neruda s use of historical
allusion is significant as several dates mentioned are specific examples of genocide, especially as a
result of hatred towards complex institutions of race, nationality, and religion. In this piece Neruda
references several dates: 1925, 1926, 1933, 1940, 1918, 1905, and thousands of nineteen hundreds
(Neruda,1). Each date representative of a significantly negative event in world history; However
several dates also coincide with important years in Cuban history. For example, in the year 1925,
Gerardo Machado was elected Cuba s president, he would resist the rise of a healthy labor movement,
which he would enforce using deportation and police brutality. Cuba s economic downfall would lead
to uprisings in the future, all ultimately having Cuban legislature and law enforcement being taken
advantage of, while at the same time several mass killings world arise before crimes against humanity
would be identified and prosecuted at the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg. Neruda s first
hand experiences with oppression and fascism growing up in Cuba allowed many to learn from the
Chilean because he offered a way of identifying with the masses and engaging the problems of society
(Pettingell, 3). Neruda s use of allusion allows the hatred from these mass killings to be tied in with
the selfishness and extortion of

How Did Marco Polo American Travel
Marco polo a well known European traveler along the Silk Road, he was the greatest Kublai Khan s
ambassador who was authorized to travel all over his empire. He was born to a prominent family in
the long distance trade. On this essay, I will tell you a summary of his long journey to the city of
Hangzhou, which was known as Kinsay. This was discussed in the book, The Travels of Marco Polo .
Marco polo marks his account of Kinsay and how his accomplishment alternates China s engagement
with a wider world, and he also expresses his opinion of the city.
In his description of the Mongolian empire, he shows feelings of respect for Kublai Khan, who was
his current leader, whose skill in diplomacy and in war expanded the vast empire, his admiration and
possibly jealousy for the more advanced culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet, I do not believe that Marco Polo s love for the Mongolian empire, particularly during the empire
of Kublai Khan really captured the truth of the foreign land at the time. Marco Polo was sent to
Kinsay to explore and have something to talk about when he was back about the culture, findings,
people, climate, habitation, etc. Throughout his residency, he provides a perfect picture of an excellent
society in Kinsay, he was overwhelmed with the size, complexity and the assets, how the city
possessed many powerful features, containing 12 guilds, 12,000 bridges of stone all with big numbers
of wealthy merchants, many elegant mansions and palaces and many

The War Of Canada During The Great War
At the end of the Great War, Canada plunged into economic darkness; the once powerful war industry
was no longer needed and factories shut down all over the country, causing unemployment for
civilians and veterans alike to skyrocket. This reflected on the military of Canada; vehicles that were
destroyed were not replaced; the number of permanent forces and militia barely grew. Canada s
military saw a period of inactivity that would even cause land, sea and air components merged as a
singular entity due to the Great Depression s effect on the military budget. However, the peace was not
to last. As Adolf Hitler s Germany appeared and showed the world its intentions, nations gathered and
Canada committed an important act demonstrating its independence as a nation; Canada declared war.
Viewed for a long time as a British colony even after Confederation, Canada took a stand against a
virtually universally recognized evil alongside the major powers of the world at the time. Canada s
participation in conflicts in many different operations throughout WWII demonstrated its military
effectiveness, but its important role in the D Day landings defined Canada s military competency
through the crucial Operation Overlord, dubbed by some as the beginning of the end of the Second
World War, in Normandy. Canada s role in Operation Overlord in Normandy solidified the military
structure that is our modern military and sculpted the image of an independent nation through Canada
s military

Evaluating Benjamin Todd s Speech From A Ted Talk
I decided to report my speech from a ted talk. I chose a topic that would be interesting enough to hear
and can easily be relatable. The speaker I chose to evaluate is Benjamin Todd. Todd did his ted talk to
persuade his audience to find work that they love instead of following their passion. At first the title
was confusing because in my opinion love and passion would go together, however by listening to his
speech throughout he was able to persuade me on how I should pick my career and how I should avoid
picking the wrong one. He also explains how a person should pick a career that would benefit the
society to gain a sense of fulfillment.
Benjamin Todd introduces his speech with a personal experience so he can emotionally connect his
audience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Todd delivers a successful speech as he uses hand gestures and does movements throughout that
correlated well with his speech. He raises the pitch of his voice while discussing a main point to create
emphasis on that specific idea. For example, when he tries to persuade his audience to do something
valuable and be altruistic he raises his voice to leave an impact on his audience. He dresses business
causal to appear formal but also look like a regular everyday person to relate to his audience instead of
being completely professional and dressing up in a suit and tie. He pauses many times to let his
audience process his main points. His posture and facial expressions made him appear more confident
which makes one likely to believe that the speaker knows what he is talking about. He had an
audience of about 20 50 people and throughout his speech held eye contact with as many people as he
can to keep them interested. He looks around at his audience several times to keep them engaged.
Todd also uses language such as such as his slogan do something valuable throughout the speech to
emphasize his ideas and make it sound more persuasive. He uses imagery to make his audience

Competitive Authoritarianism
A. INTRODUCTION
In this article, Toby Dodge talks about the shift of Iraqi politics from imposition of democracy by the
United States after the invasion, and the transition to competitive authoritarianism after Nouri al
Maliki s election as the Prime Minister in April 2006.
This critical review will first provide a summary of the arguments put forth by the author, and then
provide a critical analysis of the same in context of the article s persuasiveness.
B. SUMMARY
The author traces Iraqi politics from the US led invasion of March 2003 to Maliki s attempts to crush
all opposition before the provincial elections of April 2013. Dodge s main argument focuses on how
Maliki has attempted to impose competitive authoritarianism by undermining ... Show more content

CRITICAL ANALYSIS
The article provides a comprehensive argument about how Maliki has turned Iraq into competitive
authoritarianism . This claim has been supported through a multiplicity of instances. The author
clarifies why he calls Iraq a competitive authoritarianism instead of terming it as complete
authoritarianism, by explaining how the latter involves removing the opportunities for opposition
completely, while the former shapes the field of competition to its own advantage(244). Such an
explanation, along with the use of various instances to support the claim, makes his main argument
very persuasive.
While he provides enough evidences to support his main claim, the author does not give sufficient
evidence to support his idea of the aims with which the Bush administration decided to invade
Iraq(243), thus raising doubts about the sections talking of the US s intentions in Iraq and hence, the
reasons why Iraq s reconstruction was carried out in such haste.
D. CONCLUSION
The author s main claim of Iraq being a competitive authoritarian regime is justified with ample
evidence. The author also talks about the reasons which led to the transformation of Iraq into
competitive authoritarianism. However, the author does not provide a very persuasive argument for his
sub claim about the intent with which the US invaded

Communication Between Rhesus Infants And Their Non...
Using the phrase instinct very liberally creates many issues when discussing the behaviors of non
human primates, and in this case mothering rhesus macaques. To determine the source of the disturbed
agonistic behavior of the mother rhesus toward her offspring, one must first look at the environmental
conditions in which the mother rhesus was reared as an infant. The correlation between environmental
conditions and behavioral tendencies of the mother rhesus can be observed in the behavioral
differences of the mother rhesus and related members of the group, owing to differencing
environmental conditions. In addition, one must consider exactly how certain behaviors are used as a
means of communication and socialization between individuals, as various gestures, vocalizations,
and facial expressions are a common means of communication between members of a social group.
Observing the various signal response communication between rhesus infants and their non agonistic
mothers, and comparing that communication to that of infants and the rhesus agonistic mothers, could
give possible insight in the cues that infants give to their mothers for interactions, such as feeding.
Collected social observations from these agonistic mothers may suggest that maternal instincts are not
genetically determined, but instead greatly influenced by the social structure and environment that the
mother, as an infant, was reared in. One of the variables that should be considered to have a heavy

The Origins Of The Viking Age
One of the most interesting times in medieval history is the era known as the Viking Age. When these
fierce sea borne raiders rummaged and plundered European sea ports of their valuables and treasures.
These Scandinavian inhabitants were known to most of the world as a barbaric group, when in reality,
there style of attacking had more skill than the world had seen. They struck fear and intimidation into
their victims and made the whole European seaboard quake in angst for their arrival. Not only did they
want to inflict fear into Europe as well as raid them from their treasures, the Scandinavians were also
looking to expand their kind to other parts of Europe due to the lack of land in Scandinavia. One of the
first things most citizens of the world think of when you say Scandinavian is Vikings. However, this is
not 100% accurate. The term Viking was not a ethnicity or group of people, it was a job description. It
did not apply to women, children or slaves of the time, only the Scandinavian men. The Vikings were
not illiterate, however, they were also not able to write letters and letters of things they partook in.
They did something similar to other Germanic cultures and used a style of runic inscriptions. In the
Viking society, their law was fairly straight forward. They took into account the crime committed, but
also the worth of the victim before dealing out the punishment. Interestingly enough, however,
individual rank also played a factor in this decision. For

Webber, Timothy R Dr. Umrani, Deborah English 1301 15 February 2016 People you may know A
friend can be defined as a person one likes and enjoys being with. Using this definition as a basis,
almost anyone someone meets may be considered as a friend. Given the vast amount of people that
have the potential to be a friend, I believe that it is important to classify these people into some easily
understandable categories. In her essay, What Are Friends For? Marion Winik does an admirable job
of placing the people in her life into categories based on what those people meant to her. Two of the
many categories she talks about are Buddies, and the Relative Friend. In this essay, I will talk about

Loss Of Innocence In Laurie Halse Anderson s The Joy Luck...
In all our lives, there is a fall from innocence. A time after which, we are never the same. Stand By
Me. Innocence can be found at any age or any point in one s life. It means chastity, freedom from
wrong, lack of knowledge, SIMPLICITY. When one has innocence the world seems easy without any
worries, however that can all change when one loses their innocence. The loss of innocence can feel as
though one has fallen into a black hole and can never escape, darkness, voicelessness, LONELINESS.
In Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club , Nadine Gordimer s Once Upon a Time , and Laurie Halse
Anderson s Speak , the authors use main and supporting characters to show a loss of innocence at a
young age. In The Joy Luck Club loss of innocence is expressed through the old woman from the
fourth parable, Queen Mother of the Western Skies . In Once Upon a Time loss of innocence is
expressed through the young boy. In Speak loss of innocence is expressed though Melinda. Although
all three of these characters go through the same struggle of loss of innocence, Anderson s character
Melinda is able to come to terms with her loss and regain her strength. In these three stories, Tan,
Gordimer, and Anderson use the theme of loss of innocence to portray loneliness, fear, and barriers to
show how one can learn from past experiences.
In the fourth parable Queen Mother of the Western Skies , Tan uses the old woman to show her loss of
innocence through flashbacks to her youth. As she plays with her granddaughter, the old woman
wonders what she will teach the child. She sees the baby laughing and the old woman recalls that she
too was once free and innocent , laughing for pure enjoyment (213). However, as time went on she
threw away her foolish innocence to protect herself (213). As a result, when she had a daughter, she
taught her daughter to do the same and shed her innocence (213). The old woman wonders if telling
her daughter to do so was wrong, for now she can recognize the evil in the world. She calls the baby
as if she is a high and mighty spirit named Syi Wang Mu , Queen Mother of the Western Skies and
asks her to answer her question. Continuing to call her granddaughter the Queen,

No Secret That Education Is The Primary Foundation For...
Dear Mayors of towns in New England, ( December 10, 1838 )
It s no secret that education is the primary foundation for genuine success in life. Therefore, it s
imperative for us to ameliorate our nation s education system as much as possible for the future
generations. For the most part, up until this point, most Americans who have pursued an education
have done so through private means. I am by no means saying that free schooling in America today is
non existent, but it s evident that the education provided by these institutions is inadequate due to a
lack of trained professionals. Therefore, we must sedulously work towards fabricating a greatly
needed public education system in our beloved nation. The challenges that America has faced ... Show

And perhaps most vital of all, I have received word of America s first ever teacher training college
opening in Massachusetts during sometime next year. These are all critical accomplishments, but this
is just the beginning.
As far as the goals of this reform movement are concerned, our paramount objective is to provide each
and every student with free and equal education and opportunities. In order for this to happen, it s
imperative for this public education system to be put implemented all over the nation. With regards to
the financing of these common schools, we intend on collecting the necessary funds through taxes.
Again, our hope is that these common schools will help shape Americans into exemplary citizens.
Another vital prospect to take into consideration is that a unified education system would help
assimilate all immigrants, which is fundamental, especially now during a time when immigration has
increased and will continue to increase at an exponential rate. Another notable and somewhat
ambitious goal is to procure the highest literacy rate in the world. These are all things that definitely
won t happen overnight, but we are determined to work diligently towards meeting these goals.
Barriers and obstacles are always a part of the goal achieving process. Our education reform
movement is no different. Religious division is probably the biggest obstacle

Reasons For Britain To Leave The EU
Reason for Britain to leave the EU POLITICAL and FINANACIAL
The UK have been a part of the EU since 1973. Since the accession of the country in 1973, Europe has
completely changed its nature. For years, Euro sceptics have been campaigning for a referendum on
the membership on the UK in the EU.
The British has officially voted to move away from the EU. The market is in crisis after the revelation
that the united kingdom is a broken nation.
On June 23, 2016, in a referendum organized by former Prime Minister David Cameron, 51.9% of the
British chose to leave the EU (Wheeler, 5 September 2017) .Following the triggering of Article 50 of
the Treaty on European Union on 29 March 2017, the United Kingdom and the other 27 Member

However, the Brexit will not materialize immediately since Article 50 of the Treaty of the Union
provides for a two year period (renewable) between the withdrawal request and its effectiveness. Thus,
for at least 2 years, the United Kingdom will continue to be a member of the EU (and contribute €
4,930 million to its annual budget!). In this period, the modalities of the exit of the British Kingdom
will have to be negotiated between European leaders. Then the trade agreements will be renegotiated,
which could take up to 10 years warned the British government. Thus, the economic consequences of
a Brexit on the British economy will depend on the outcome of these negotiations. Some studies,
however, have sought to measure the long term consequences for the British economy. Overall, they
conclude that there are rather negative impacts on trade, GDP growth or per capita income
(économiques, Créé le 30 juin 2016).
The end of the financial passport
For the financial players, the Brexit is a real challenge. Indeed, the City, the world s largest stock
exchange, interacts mainly with the European Union, which accounts for 41% of exports of financial
services, compared with 26% for the United States, 2% for China and Hong Kong. This represented £
19.4 billion in 2013; an amount which, according to Capital Economics, could be divided by two

Teenage Stereotypes
Lazy, Disrespectful, Selfish, Technology Crazed. These are just a few of the words that come to mind
when the typical adult describes the everyday teenager. To some, these descriptions are taken as a
given fact and lack recognition of the issue this poses to the individuals on the receiving end of such.
This is the exact issue present in discrimination and stereotyping. For years, a specific group of
individuals has been reduced to the negative connotations presented against them by every other group
that lacks such quality such as their race, gender, appearance, age ...etc. Every instance applicable
contains the common ground in which the other groups fail to recognize the harm in their superficial
classifications of one another due to narrow minded tendencies. This is the basis to every single form
of discrimination. An incredibly oppressed group who is by far, no stranger to these circumstances are
teens who continuously receive the hostility of adults for simply belonging to their age group. Present
day teenagers have come to be placed in an inaccurate box that classifies them as a selfish, immature
group by adults due several factors, the most prominent being the media and the form it introduces
teens to the average adult. The constant incorrect portrayal of teens in movies, t.v. and other platforms
has caused adult audiences to believe these classifications and thus, cause several issues to be inflicted
upon teens in several areas of their lives that calls for

Religion is a major theme in the life of Pi. Pi becomes a Christian, and a Muslim throughout his

immense love he has for god. However, Pi s strong faith in god becomes much less prominent when
he s on the lifeboat with the animals. In other words, his physical needs take over and dominate over
his religious ones. He still worships his gods, however is occasionally. Whenever he finds a fish or any
source of food, he thanks his gods. For example when he reached the carnivorous island, he thanked
god like crazy(page 233). However, he later discovered that it was a man eating island. I think the
author included this to show that Pi is continuing to lose his faith in god, and after this discovery he
has lost even more confidence in god. This shows signs of doubt in Pi s mind, he doesn t understand
what he should thank god for. Does this mean he completely lost his faith in god, not necessarily. He
could still have a little bit of faith left in god, but we can be sure that it s not as strong as it once

Ethics Is A Theory Of Moral Principles Essay
Ethics can be a simple concept when first introduced, but as you go deeper into the understanding of
what is ethics and how to be ethical it becomes more complex than one would assume by reading a
single definition. In our modern world, there are plenty of people who manage to stay ethical, but as
we go further into the future more and more individuals lose that glimmer of morality that was once
upon them. The actual definition of ethics is a system of moral principles. Meaning that a
characteristic that shows through the decisions we make everyday. In relation to the concept we all go
by which is choosing between right or wrong and success or failure. Some may argue and use morals
interchangeably and disagree on whether to stay ethical is inherently found through spiritual principles
or just a philosophy of morals. There are plenty of ways one can stay ethical throughout their life
despite the temptation of doing the wrong thing to get further ahead whether that d be success or
popularity.
All throughout my life I have been given plenty of reasons to refuse the option of being ethical or
stand by my personal morals, but there is one experience that I will never forget that has challenged
my beliefs. This experience begins with me visiting my psychiatrist at the time and the following
events that led me to questioning whether the police enforcement and the hospital staff followed their
code of ethics and morals. Three years ago I experienced a change within myself yet was

Dbq Zheng He s 7 Voyages
The most well known expeditions are those of European explorers such as Christopher Columbus, but
there are many lesser known voyages from history, including the voyages of Chinese Muslim diplomat
Zheng He. After driving out the Mongol leaders who controlled China, the Chinese fell under the
power of the Ming Dynasty in 1368. In 1405, Yongle, the second emperor of the Ming Dynasty,
appointed Zheng He to lead the first of seven voyages of exploration of the outside world. These
voyages ranged from Southeast Asia to Africa s East coast, with the purpose of establishing trade
relationships with foreign nations and demonstrating Chinese power and superiority to the rest of the
world. Shortly after the last of the seven voyages and the deaths ... Show more content on

The first of Zheng He s voyages were launched in 1405, about 87 years before the voyages of
Christopher Columbus. Columbus had only three ships and 90 crewmen on his famous voyage in 1492
and the size of his ships were 85 feet long. Similarly, Vasco da Gama s 1498 voyage had 4 ships and
160 crewmen and Ferdinand Magellan s 1521 voyage had 5 ships and 265 crewmen. A chart titled
Zheng He s Fleet By the Numbers stated the number of each type of crew personnel on each voyage of
Zheng He s and the number of each type of ship on each voyage. The total number of ships for each
voyage was 255 and the total number of crewmen was 27,000 (Doc. C). An illustration titled Zheng
He by Edward L. Dreyer detailing the size of Zheng He s ships depicts them as being 440 feet long
and 180 feet wide (Doc. C). Zheng He s voyages were not only larger than most known voyages
before his, but also larger than many of the exploration voyages long after his by a significant amount.
His ships were more than five times the size of those of Columbus, his crew 300 times Columbus s
crew, and his fleet 85 times the size of Columbus s fleet. It would have taken very strong leadership by
He to safely and successfully conduct such a large voyage across the vast distances he travelled.
Zheng He s voyages were probably more difficult to lead than many of the voyages after his, including

Stigmatization Of Mental Illnesses Essay
A stigma is a distinguishing mark, establishing a border between a stigmatized person and others
attributing negative characteristics to this person. (Baumann, 2007) There are many different factors
that take part in the stigmatization of mental illnesses, however the greatest contributor is the social
distance that is created within society between individuals with a mental illness and those without.
There are two mind sets that can increase a person s willingness to socially distance themselves from
the mentally ill. The first mindset is that mentally ill individuals are different and therefore should be
separated. The second mindset is that mentally ill individuals are perceived as violent and this creates
a need for separation with regards ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Feldman and Crandall, 2007) Society has a want to protect themselves from anything they see as a
dangerous. The common idea that people that have a mental illness are dangerous is creating a
division in the world. Although the ideas may be false it is very difficult to change a popular opinion.
Since the 1950 s American s have increased the belief that mental illnesses cause the mentally ill to
become violent. (Feldman and Crandall, 2007) To change these popular beliefs and reduce the
stigmatization around mental illness it is necessary to bring more awareness to all mental illnesses.
The social distancing disconnects people and does not allow for society to see how a mental illness
affects an individual. The false popular opinions are all that people really know about mental illnesses.
People suffering from mental illnesses are isolated and viewed as strangers in society. They are
viewed as dangerous or aggressive, which increases the likelihood of being discriminated against.
These two factors will lead to social distancing, which is the greatest contributor of the stigmatization
of mental illness. Without creating awareness of mental illnesses, the stigmatization is likely to remain
the same and there will always be a separation between those with a mental illness and those

Tata Motors Singur Case (Nano Controversy)
Introduction
I have taken the case on Tata Motors Ltd. The case was all about on the Tata Nano Singur
Controversy. This controversy refers to the Tata s Nano Factory at Singur in Hooghly district in West
Bengal, India. Since Tata Motors Started constructing the factory over there in Singur, the small place
comes into the media worldwide. Tata Motors started this factory to manufacture 25000 cars firstly.
The plans of Tata Motors were that Nano will come out from the factory by 2008 for rolling out the

As the Nano project will be beneficial for the both parties, Tata will get the desired place for the

Industry, government and agriculture comes at the crossroads. There are so many implications for the
external factors which come into this picture. As CPI had won the election for the seventh consecutive
time in West Bengal, CM Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has the vision to make the West Bengal an
industrialized state which will help the people to upgrade their standards. CM was very happy that
government has recommended the Singur for the Nano Plant. As Ratan Tata was looking for the place
where he would able to control the cost and place would be cheap so that he can provide the people
the car of worth Rs. 1 lakh. So, Ratan Tata accepts the proposal from the West Bengal government
because at Singur the cost of its operation would be less and Tata will get benefited out of it. The
statistical data of Hooghly district on Singur block is that 83% of the land is irrigated and crop density
is 220%. The landholders in the Singur were very small. All have the land in the small proportions.
There are a large number of migrant workers over there; it implies that Tata would get the cheap and
easy labor over there in the Singur. On May 18, 2006, there was the announcement by the West
Bengal government for the beginning of the project at Singur. Ratan Tata

In maternal child health in the United States and feasibly throughout the world, preterm birth is
currently the most important problem and is the most significant challenge to modern obstetrics.
According to the World Health Organization, a preterm birth is defined as birth before 37 completed
weeks of gestation. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2014) estimated that 1 in 9
infants born in United States are preterm babies. Preterm related reasons of death together accounted
for 35% of all infant deaths in 2010, more than any other single cause. Preterm birth is also a foremost
cause of long term neurological disabilities in children. Preterm birth costs the U.S. health care system
more than $26 billion in 2005 (CDC, 2014). Preterm birth is a condition triggered by several
etiologies, one of which is a drop in progesterone action, which makes cervical ripening. A

A diagnosis is well explained and interventions are also timely scheduled, but there is not enough
information on expected outcomes from each intervention. Intervention: A well designed therapeutic
treatment plan was implemented following thorough examination, evaluation, and diagnosis. Initially,
the patient was given grade IV manual mobilization in the affected thoracolumbar (T10 to L2
vertebrae) region to reduce the pain and minimize spinal restriction (Doubleday et al., 2003). Also, the
PT added psoas muscle stretching in prone position and pelvis was stabilized with the mobilization

observed as sensory, motor, and/or trophic changes in skin, subcutaneous tissues, and muscles, and the
symptoms can be itching, dysesthesia, skin temperature changes, or dry skin (Goodman Snyder, 2013,

Acid Base Balance Case Study
Maintenance of acid and based balance in the body is essential for normal function of biological
processes, mainly because of the dependence of pH level for enzyme function. The body concentration
of acids and bases is controlled so that the pH of extracellular body fluids is maintained within the
range of 7.35 to 7.45. The body maintain this balance by a mechanism that generate buffer and
eliminate acids and bases. A base is an ion or molecule that can accept or combine with a hydrogen
ion and an acid is a molecule that can release a hydrogen. (Grossman, Port, 2014). Acids and bases
exist as a buffer system. For example, a mixture of a weak acid can reversibly become base or a
mixture of a weak base can reversibly become acid. There are two type of acid base imbalance;
metabolic and respiratory.
Metabolic imbalance is a disorder that produce an alteration in the plasma bicarbonate concentration
from the addition to or the loss from the extracellular fluid of nonvolatile acid or alkali. A reduction in
pH because of a decrease in bicarbonate is called metabolic alkalosis. Respiratory imbalance involves
an alteration in partial pressure of carbon dioxide due to an increase or decrease in alveolar
ventilation. Respiratory acidosis is the result of a decrease in pH, ... Show more content on

Cavalry Maiden
The Cavalry Maiden Nadezhda Durova and Her Freedom
The Cavalry Maiden, by: Nadezhda Durova and translated by Mary Fleming Zirin, is a journal about a
Russian officer in the Napoleonic Wars. Nadezhda Durova is a woman who left home at age twenty
three to join a regiment. Every since a young age Durova was interested in nature and things that were
young men interest. It is believed that this stemmed from not being loved by her mother. She was
attached to her father, who was a captain of a regiment, showed her the proper love. When her mother
did not want her, he kept her on his side and let her ride horses and played with pistols. The women in
the eighteenth century Russia had little freedom. They could only participate in ... Show more content

Finally with her freedom came responsibility. She was responsible for taking in two young men. My
squadron commander got the fantastic notion of sending the youngest men to be orderlies, and under
this disposition the choice fell on me (93). Another responsibility Nadezhda Durova had taken place
after she had transferred regiments. She and her group of men were responsible for getting hay. While
out she decided to wander off to find her horse so she told the sergeant to lead the men to find the hay.
Stackelberg sent me for hay for the regimental horses...I charged the sergeant to lead the detachment at
a walk to the forest nearby, and myself did not so much gallop as jolt my way as fast as I could to the
village where I hoped to find our reserve horses (149). The responsibility that young girls had in the
eighteenth century was bobbin lace. From morning to night I sat over worked which, I must confess,
was the vilest imaginable because, unlike other girls, I could not, would not, and did not want to
acquire the skill...my bobbin lace (7). Even though she had more freedom her responsibility became
more challenging. Nadezhda Durova only was able to acquire freedom because she disguised herself
as a man. She would not have never been in a regiment if did not dress and act like a man. The
freedom in the eighteenth century was unequal when it came to men and women. The men had more
freedom while the women had no freedom

Operant Condition Paper
I would like to start off by defining the Operant condition is a method of learning that occurs through
rewards and punishments for behavior. In the operant conditioning, an association is made between a
behavior and a consequence for that behavior (Cherry 1).This theory was made by B.F. Skinner known
as Skinnerian. As a behaviorist, Skinner believed that it was not really necessary to look at internal
thoughts and motivations in order to explain behavior. Instead, he suggested, we should look only at
the external, observable causes of human behavior (Cherry 1). According to the Power Point, there are
three process of Operating Conditions Extinction, Generalization, and Discriminative Stimuli.
Extinction is weakening and disappearance of a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The next process of Operant Conditioning is generalization which means tendency to make the
learned response to a stimulus similar to that for which the response was originally reinforced
(Chapter 5 Power Point ).According to the text, a great example by describing the less similar the
color the pigeon saw the less it picked. The last process of Operating Condition is Discriminative
Stimuli which means a stimulus that signals whether a response or behavior will be rewarded,
punished or even ignore. When dealing with behavior you ll always have a punishment for a behavior.
When acquired through Operant Condition there are two types of punishments Positive and Negative
punishment. Positive punishment involves the presentation of an unfavorable event or outcome in
order to weaken the response it follows. Negative punishment occurs when a favorable event or
outcome is removed after a behavior occurs. In both Positive or Negative punishment deals with
decreasing of the behaviors. There is also a disadvantage from punishment is that a person may
become very angry, fearful and hostile towards the punisher. When having these symptoms are
emotions it can sometimes result into lashing, or acting out of control. When dealing with these
punishments it can affect the body positively when being applied

Essay On A Quilt Of A Country By Nadine Gordimer
A quilt of a country is an essay about the idea that every man in the united states is created equal.
Anna Quindlen says that the united states is like a huge quilt. That means that it is full of many
different crazy people who come together as one when it matters. Also this means if our country is in
danger like on 9/11 the people of the united states no matter what race help each other. Also in the text
she compares America to a mongrel what she means by this is that
America is full of all different people from all different races and people who are of two races. I
believe that the United States is better as a mixed nation with all different races.

important part of a person s life and can be seen everywhere.
What all these stories have in common is they all talk about something that is seen in our everyday
lives. The first story talks about how America is a nation full of all different people from all different
races. She refers to our nation as a mongrel of a nation meaning it is full of mixed people. The second
story talks about slavery in africa and how it affected her. You can still see forms of slavery in today s
society like in china were the kids work in horrible conditions for little pay. Lastly the third story talks
about symbolism and how a dad needed to pay more attention to his daughter. You can see symbols all
over the world in many different shapes, sizes, and forms.
In conclusion i believe that all of these stories are important in their own way. Also i believe that these
points need to be solved before we can move on. Child slavery in china is a huge problem that needs
to be resolved. Also neglective parents need to be talked to about what they are doing to their child.

Individual productivity calculator can be devised to reward those who work more in order to keep the
parity issues from creeping in and at the same time providing growth and recognition to the employees
as mentioned in the Herzberg two factor model (Newstrom, 2015). This model can be interpreted as a
pioneering technique to motivate the team.
When the employees sweat out to reach the production targets, they give their best and the mind set or
the attitude of the employees towards the organization changes. The management should set up
monthly workshops to interact with their employees, thus making the employees feel that the
management is well within their reach and is ready to listen to their pleas. Organizing such workshops
will stimulate the feedback process which will help the management to cut down on production and
sales costs in turn maximising the returns (Arnolds amp; Boshoff, 2002). Organizing technical trips
and field tours further improves the management employee relationship as this allows the two parties
to work together in a different environment and gain better ideas. The concepts of the ERG (existence,

productivity and then rewarding them with various benefits such as growth. Growth is what

The Lesson Of Finding The Arc Length Of A Circle
I choose a word problems, which is part of the lesson of finding the arc length of a circle. To address
this concept, I want to assign the following word problem to the students:
A satellite orbiting the earth in a circular path stays at a constant altitude of 100 kilometers throughout
its orbit. Given that the radius of the earth is 6370 kilometers, find the approximate distance that the
satellite travels in completing 70% of one complete orbit.
The standard that is covering here is CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSG.C.B.5 (Common Core State
Standards Initiative, n.d.), which is Derive using similarity the fact that the length of the arc
intercepted by an angle is proportional to the radius, and define the radian measure of the angle as the
constant of proportionality; derive the formula for the area of a sector. For this lesson, the students
need to know how to use the formula to find the circumference of a circle, but also, how the find the
measurement of an arc, without forgetting that they need to find only when the satellite completes
70% of the orbit, and how many degrees are 70% of the arc. Students should have a background on
how to change the percent to a decimal, or to a fraction. Also, there are multiple ways on how the
students can find the answer. It is probably that most students will only use the radius of the Earth,
which is 6370 km. However, they can miss important information: the satellite is orbiting 100 km
above the Earth s surface. They need to add

  • 2. Learning Strategies for Students A learning strategy is a person s approach to learning and using information. Students use learning strategies to help them understand information and solve problems. Students who do not know or use good learning strategies will ultimately fail in school. Learning approach focuses on making student learners more active, by teaching them how to learn and be successful. My successes for teaching the Acquisition to Generalization Framework lesson to my student were that I was able to get my student Rickey to buy into the strategy, of using the graphic organizer such as the KWL chart. Once I began to rationalize with Rickey, to see the value of learning this approach, he was more eager to learn how this approach could help him to become an effective learner. I was also able to provide Rickey with feedback in a timely manner, and share with him the progress he made while learning the strategy. The improvements that I could have made while teaching the Acquisition to Generalization Framework; was I needed to explain each of the steps to Rickey more thoroughly so that he could have a better understanding of the approach. While I think, he understood most of the steps, and the reason as to why the strategy is needed. Rickey will still be able to meet his goals of retelling a story in a correct sequence beginning, middle and end with 100% accuracy on 8 out of 10 trials; and to apply knowledge of word structure, and context clues to determine the meanings of unfamiliar words at 80% ... • 3. The Chosen Ones By Pablo Neruda Analysis Resuscitation Pablo Neruda s poem The Chosen Ones is a perfect incorporation of torment and influence, acting to sadden as well as impact the reader to influence further action against intolerance. Neruda uses allusion when referencing the years of events of significant suffering that are important in Cuban and world history, recalling his own first hand experiences himself, and the significance of understanding these dates and events. Neruda uses a tone that is volatile, characterized by an increase in imagery, especially of death and violence, as the piece goes on. Neruda uses a couplet at the end to shift the poem from lengthy description of violence and death, to a sardonic reference of those who were killed, operating as a call to action. This poem uses allusion, tone, and personification to exemplify violence as a result of prejudice and their legacy forgotten. Neruda s use of historical allusion is significant as several dates mentioned are specific examples of genocide, especially as a result of hatred towards complex institutions of race, nationality, and religion. In this piece Neruda references several dates: 1925, 1926, 1933, 1940, 1918, 1905, and thousands of nineteen hundreds (Neruda,1). Each date representative of a significantly negative event in world history; However several dates also coincide with important years in Cuban history. For example, in the year 1925, Gerardo Machado was elected Cuba s president, he would resist the rise of a healthy labor movement, which he would enforce using deportation and police brutality. Cuba s economic downfall would lead to uprisings in the future, all ultimately having Cuban legislature and law enforcement being taken advantage of, while at the same time several mass killings world arise before crimes against humanity would be identified and prosecuted at the International Military Tribunal in Nuremberg. Neruda s first hand experiences with oppression and fascism growing up in Cuba allowed many to learn from the Chilean because he offered a way of identifying with the masses and engaging the problems of society (Pettingell, 3). Neruda s use of allusion allows the hatred from these mass killings to be tied in with the selfishness and extortion of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. How Did Marco Polo American Travel Marco polo a well known European traveler along the Silk Road, he was the greatest Kublai Khan s ambassador who was authorized to travel all over his empire. He was born to a prominent family in the long distance trade. On this essay, I will tell you a summary of his long journey to the city of Hangzhou, which was known as Kinsay. This was discussed in the book, The Travels of Marco Polo . Marco polo marks his account of Kinsay and how his accomplishment alternates China s engagement with a wider world, and he also expresses his opinion of the city. In his description of the Mongolian empire, he shows feelings of respect for Kublai Khan, who was his current leader, whose skill in diplomacy and in war expanded the vast empire, his admiration and possibly jealousy for the more advanced culture ... Yet, I do not believe that Marco Polo s love for the Mongolian empire, particularly during the empire of Kublai Khan really captured the truth of the foreign land at the time. Marco Polo was sent to Kinsay to explore and have something to talk about when he was back about the culture, findings, people, climate, habitation, etc. Throughout his residency, he provides a perfect picture of an excellent society in Kinsay, he was overwhelmed with the size, complexity and the assets, how the city possessed many powerful features, containing 12 guilds, 12,000 bridges of stone all with big numbers of wealthy merchants, many elegant mansions and palaces and many ... • 5. The War Of Canada During The Great War At the end of the Great War, Canada plunged into economic darkness; the once powerful war industry was no longer needed and factories shut down all over the country, causing unemployment for civilians and veterans alike to skyrocket. This reflected on the military of Canada; vehicles that were destroyed were not replaced; the number of permanent forces and militia barely grew. Canada s military saw a period of inactivity that would even cause land, sea and air components merged as a singular entity due to the Great Depression s effect on the military budget. However, the peace was not to last. As Adolf Hitler s Germany appeared and showed the world its intentions, nations gathered and Canada committed an important act demonstrating its independence as a nation; Canada declared war. Viewed for a long time as a British colony even after Confederation, Canada took a stand against a virtually universally recognized evil alongside the major powers of the world at the time. Canada s participation in conflicts in many different operations throughout WWII demonstrated its military effectiveness, but its important role in the D Day landings defined Canada s military competency through the crucial Operation Overlord, dubbed by some as the beginning of the end of the Second World War, in Normandy. Canada s role in Operation Overlord in Normandy solidified the military structure that is our modern military and sculpted the image of an independent nation through Canada s military ... • 6. Evaluating Benjamin Todd s Speech From A Ted Talk I decided to report my speech from a ted talk. I chose a topic that would be interesting enough to hear and can easily be relatable. The speaker I chose to evaluate is Benjamin Todd. Todd did his ted talk to persuade his audience to find work that they love instead of following their passion. At first the title was confusing because in my opinion love and passion would go together, however by listening to his speech throughout he was able to persuade me on how I should pick my career and how I should avoid picking the wrong one. He also explains how a person should pick a career that would benefit the society to gain a sense of fulfillment. Benjamin Todd introduces his speech with a personal experience so he can emotionally connect his audience ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Todd delivers a successful speech as he uses hand gestures and does movements throughout that correlated well with his speech. He raises the pitch of his voice while discussing a main point to create emphasis on that specific idea. For example, when he tries to persuade his audience to do something valuable and be altruistic he raises his voice to leave an impact on his audience. He dresses business causal to appear formal but also look like a regular everyday person to relate to his audience instead of being completely professional and dressing up in a suit and tie. He pauses many times to let his audience process his main points. His posture and facial expressions made him appear more confident which makes one likely to believe that the speaker knows what he is talking about. He had an audience of about 20 50 people and throughout his speech held eye contact with as many people as he can to keep them interested. He looks around at his audience several times to keep them engaged. Todd also uses language such as such as his slogan do something valuable throughout the speech to emphasize his ideas and make it sound more persuasive. • 7. Competitive Authoritarianism A. INTRODUCTION In this article, Toby Dodge talks about the shift of Iraqi politics from imposition of democracy by the United States after the invasion, and the transition to competitive authoritarianism after Nouri al Maliki s election as the Prime Minister in April 2006. This critical review will first provide a summary of the arguments put forth by the author, and then provide a critical analysis of the same in context of the article s persuasiveness. B. SUMMARY The author traces Iraqi politics from the US led invasion of March 2003 to Maliki s attempts to crush all opposition before the provincial elections of April 2013. Dodge s main argument focuses on how Maliki has attempted to impose competitive authoritarianism by undermining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... CRITICAL ANALYSIS The article provides a comprehensive argument about how Maliki has turned Iraq into competitive authoritarianism . This claim has been supported through a multiplicity of instances. The author clarifies why he calls Iraq a competitive authoritarianism instead of terming it as complete authoritarianism, by explaining how the latter involves removing the opportunities for opposition completely, while the former shapes the field of competition to its own advantage(244). Such an explanation, along with the use of various instances to support the claim, makes his main argument very persuasive. While he provides enough evidences to support his main claim, the author does not give sufficient evidence to support his idea of the aims with which the Bush administration decided to invade Iraq(243), thus raising doubts about the sections talking of the US s intentions in Iraq and hence, the reasons why Iraq s reconstruction was carried out in such haste. D. CONCLUSION The author s main claim of Iraq being a competitive authoritarian regime is justified with ample evidence. The author also talks about the reasons which led to the transformation of Iraq into competitive authoritarianism. However, the author does not provide a very persuasive argument for his sub claim about the intent with which the US invaded ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Communication Between Rhesus Infants And Their Non... Using the phrase instinct very liberally creates many issues when discussing the behaviors of non human primates, and in this case mothering rhesus macaques. To determine the source of the disturbed agonistic behavior of the mother rhesus toward her offspring, one must first look at the environmental conditions in which the mother rhesus was reared as an infant. The correlation between environmental conditions and behavioral tendencies of the mother rhesus can be observed in the behavioral differences of the mother rhesus and related members of the group, owing to differencing environmental conditions. In addition, one must consider exactly how certain behaviors are used as a means of communication and socialization between individuals, as various gestures, vocalizations, and facial expressions are a common means of communication between members of a social group. Observing the various signal response communication between rhesus infants and their non agonistic mothers, and comparing that communication to that of infants and the rhesus agonistic mothers, could give possible insight in the cues that infants give to their mothers for interactions, such as feeding. Collected social observations from these agonistic mothers may suggest that maternal instincts are not genetically determined, but instead greatly influenced by the social structure and environment that the mother, as an infant, was reared in. One of the variables that should be considered to have a heavy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. The Origins Of The Viking Age One of the most interesting times in medieval history is the era known as the Viking Age. When these fierce sea borne raiders rummaged and plundered European sea ports of their valuables and treasures. These Scandinavian inhabitants were known to most of the world as a barbaric group, when in reality, there style of attacking had more skill than the world had seen. They struck fear and intimidation into their victims and made the whole European seaboard quake in angst for their arrival. Not only did they want to inflict fear into Europe as well as raid them from their treasures, the Scandinavians were also looking to expand their kind to other parts of Europe due to the lack of land in Scandinavia. One of the first things most citizens of the world think of when you say Scandinavian is Vikings. However, this is not 100% accurate. The term Viking was not a ethnicity or group of people, it was a job description. It did not apply to women, children or slaves of the time, only the Scandinavian men. The Vikings were not illiterate, however, they were also not able to write letters and letters of things they partook in. They did something similar to other Germanic cultures and used a style of runic inscriptions. In the Viking society, their law was fairly straight forward. They took into account the crime committed, but also the worth of the victim before dealing out the punishment. Interestingly enough, however, individual rank also played a factor in this decision. • 10. What Are Friends For By Marion Winik Analysis Webber, Timothy R Dr. Umrani, Deborah English 1301 15 February 2016 People you may know A friend can be defined as a person one likes and enjoys being with. Using this definition as a basis, almost anyone someone meets may be considered as a friend. Given the vast amount of people that have the potential to be a friend, I believe that it is important to classify these people into some easily understandable categories. In her essay, What Are Friends For? Marion Winik does an admirable job of placing the people in her life into categories based on what those people meant to her. Two of the many categories she talks about are Buddies, and the Relative Friend. In this essay, I will talk about these two types of friends using examples from ... • 11. Loss Of Innocence In Laurie Halse Anderson s The Joy Luck... In all our lives, there is a fall from innocence. A time after which, we are never the same. Stand By Me. Innocence can be found at any age or any point in one s life. It means chastity, freedom from wrong, lack of knowledge, SIMPLICITY. When one has innocence the world seems easy without any worries, however that can all change when one loses their innocence. The loss of innocence can feel as though one has fallen into a black hole and can never escape, darkness, voicelessness, LONELINESS. In Amy Tan s The Joy Luck Club , Nadine Gordimer s Once Upon a Time , and Laurie Halse Anderson s Speak , the authors use main and supporting characters to show a loss of innocence at a young age. In The Joy Luck Club loss of innocence is expressed through the old woman from the fourth parable, Queen Mother of the Western Skies . In Once Upon a Time loss of innocence is expressed through the young boy. In Speak loss of innocence is expressed though Melinda. Although all three of these characters go through the same struggle of loss of innocence, Anderson s character Melinda is able to come to terms with her loss and regain her strength. In these three stories, Tan, Gordimer, and Anderson use the theme of loss of innocence to portray loneliness, fear, and barriers to show how one can learn from past experiences. In the fourth parable Queen Mother of the Western Skies , Tan uses the old woman to show her loss of innocence through flashbacks to her youth. As she plays with her granddaughter, the old woman wonders what she will teach the child. She sees the baby laughing and the old woman recalls that she too was once free and innocent , laughing for pure enjoyment (213). However, as time went on she threw away her foolish innocence to protect herself (213). As a result, when she had a daughter, she taught her daughter to do the same and shed her innocence (213). The old woman wonders if telling her daughter to do so was wrong, for now she can recognize the evil in the world. She calls the baby as if she is a high and mighty spirit named Syi Wang Mu , Queen Mother of the Western Skies and asks her to answer her question. Continuing to call her granddaughter the Queen, ... • 12. No Secret That Education Is The Primary Foundation For... Dear Mayors of towns in New England, ( December 10, 1838 ) It s no secret that education is the primary foundation for genuine success in life. Therefore, it s imperative for us to ameliorate our nation s education system as much as possible for the future generations. For the most part, up until this point, most Americans who have pursued an education have done so through private means. I am by no means saying that free schooling in America today is non existent, but it s evident that the education provided by these institutions is inadequate due to a lack of trained professionals. Therefore, we must sedulously work towards fabricating a greatly needed public education system in our beloved nation. The challenges that America has faced ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And perhaps most vital of all, I have received word of America s first ever teacher training college opening in Massachusetts during sometime next year. These are all critical accomplishments, but this is just the beginning. As far as the goals of this reform movement are concerned, our paramount objective is to provide each and every student with free and equal education and opportunities. In order for this to happen, it s imperative for this public education system to be put implemented all over the nation. With regards to the financing of these common schools, we intend on collecting the necessary funds through taxes. Again, our hope is that these common schools will help shape Americans into exemplary citizens. Another vital prospect to take into consideration is that a unified education system would help assimilate all immigrants, which is fundamental, especially now during a time when immigration has increased and will continue to increase at an exponential rate. Another notable and somewhat ambitious goal is to procure the highest literacy rate in the world. These are all things that definitely won t happen overnight, but we are determined to work diligently towards meeting these goals. Barriers and obstacles are always a part of the goal achieving process. Our education reform movement is no different. Religious division is probably the biggest obstacle ... Since the accession of the country in 1973, Europe has completely changed its nature. For years, Euro sceptics have been campaigning for a referendum on the membership on the UK in the EU. The British has officially voted to move away from the EU. The market is in crisis after the revelation that the united kingdom is a broken nation. On June 23, 2016, in a referendum organized by former Prime Minister David Cameron, 51.9% of the British chose to leave the EU (Wheeler, 5 September 2017) .Following the triggering of Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union on 29 March 2017, the United Kingdom and the other 27 Member States of the ... In this period, the modalities of the exit of the British Kingdom will have to be negotiated between European leaders. Then the trade agreements will be renegotiated, which could take up to 10 years warned the British government. Thus, the economic consequences of a Brexit on the British economy will depend on the outcome of these negotiations. Some studies, however, have sought to measure the long term consequences for the British economy. Overall, they conclude that there are rather negative impacts on trade, GDP growth or per capita income (économiques, Créé le 30 juin 2016). • 14. Teenage Stereotypes Lazy, Disrespectful, Selfish, Technology Crazed. These are just a few of the words that come to mind when the typical adult describes the everyday teenager. To some, these descriptions are taken as a given fact and lack recognition of the issue this poses to the individuals on the receiving end of such. This is the exact issue present in discrimination and stereotyping. For years, a specific group of individuals has been reduced to the negative connotations presented against them by every other group that lacks such quality such as their race, gender, appearance, age ...etc. Every instance applicable contains the common ground in which the other groups fail to recognize the harm in their superficial classifications of one another due to narrow minded tendencies. This is the basis to every single form of discrimination. An incredibly oppressed group who is by far, no stranger to these circumstances are teens who continuously receive the hostility of adults for simply belonging to their age group. Present day teenagers have come to be placed in an inaccurate box that classifies them as a selfish, immature group by adults due several factors, the most prominent being the media and the form it introduces teens to the average adult. The constant incorrect portrayal of teens in movies, t.v. and other platforms has caused adult audiences to believe these classifications and thus, cause several issues to be inflicted upon teens in several areas of their lives that calls for ... For example when he reached the carnivorous island, he thanked god like crazy(page 233). However, he later discovered that it was a man eating island. I think the author included this to show that Pi is continuing to lose his faith in god, and after this discovery he has lost even more confidence in god. This shows signs of doubt in Pi s mind, he doesn t understand what he should thank god for. Does this mean he completely lost his faith in god, not necessarily. • 21. Ethics Is A Theory Of Moral Principles Essay Ethics can be a simple concept when first introduced, but as you go deeper into the understanding of what is ethics and how to be ethical it becomes more complex than one would assume by reading a single definition. In our modern world, there are plenty of people who manage to stay ethical, but as we go further into the future more and more individuals lose that glimmer of morality that was once upon them. The actual definition of ethics is a system of moral principles. Meaning that a characteristic that shows through the decisions we make everyday. In relation to the concept we all go by which is choosing between right or wrong and success or failure. Some may argue and use morals interchangeably and disagree on whether to stay ethical is inherently found through spiritual principles or just a philosophy of morals. There are plenty of ways one can stay ethical throughout their life despite the temptation of doing the wrong thing to get further ahead whether that d be success or popularity. All throughout my life I have been given plenty of reasons to refuse the option of being ethical or stand by my personal morals, but there is one experience that I will never forget that has challenged my beliefs. Since the 1950 s American s have increased the belief that mental illnesses cause the mentally ill to become violent. (Feldman and Crandall, 2007) To change these popular beliefs and reduce the stigmatization around mental illness it is necessary to bring more awareness to all mental illnesses. The social distancing disconnects people and does not allow for society to see how a mental illness affects an individual. The false popular opinions are all that people really know about mental illnesses. People suffering from mental illnesses are isolated and viewed as strangers in society. They are viewed as dangerous or aggressive, which increases the likelihood of being discriminated against. These two factors will lead to social distancing, which is the greatest contributor of the stigmatization of mental illness. • 28. Acid Base Balance Case Study Maintenance of acid and based balance in the body is essential for normal function of biological processes, mainly because of the dependence of pH level for enzyme function. The body concentration of acids and bases is controlled so that the pH of extracellular body fluids is maintained within the range of 7.35 to 7.45. The body maintain this balance by a mechanism that generate buffer and eliminate acids and bases. A base is an ion or molecule that can accept or combine with a hydrogen ion and an acid is a molecule that can release a hydrogen. (Grossman, Port, 2014). Acids and bases exist as a buffer system. For example, a mixture of a weak acid can reversibly become base or a mixture of a weak base can reversibly become acid. There are two type of acid base imbalance; metabolic and respiratory. Metabolic imbalance is a disorder that produce an alteration in the plasma bicarbonate concentration from the addition to or the loss from the extracellular fluid of nonvolatile acid or alkali. Individual productivity calculator can be devised to reward those who work more in order to keep the parity issues from creeping in and at the same time providing growth and recognition to the employees as mentioned in the Herzberg two factor model (Newstrom, 2015). This model can be interpreted as a pioneering technique to motivate the team. When the employees sweat out to reach the production targets, they give their best and the mind set or the attitude of the employees towards the organization changes. The management should set up monthly workshops to interact with their employees, thus making the employees feel that the management is well within their reach and is ready to listen to their pleas. Organizing such workshops will stimulate the feedback process which will help the management to cut down on production and sales costs in turn maximising the returns (Arnolds amp; Boshoff, 2002). Organizing technical trips and field tours further improves the management employee relationship as this allows the two parties to work together in a different environment and gain better ideas. The concepts of the ERG (existence, relatedness, growth) Model can be applied by recognizing individual employees who attain the highest productivity and then rewarding them with various benefits such as growth. • 38. The Lesson Of Finding The Arc Length Of A Circle I choose a word problems, which is part of the lesson of finding the arc length of a circle. To address this concept, I want to assign the following word problem to the students: A satellite orbiting the earth in a circular path stays at a constant altitude of 100 kilometers throughout its orbit. Given that the radius of the earth is 6370 kilometers, find the approximate distance that the satellite travels in completing 70% of one complete orbit. The standard that is covering here is CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.HSG.C.B.5 (Common Core State Standards Initiative, n.d.), which is Derive using similarity the fact that the length of the arc intercepted by an angle is proportional to the radius, and define the radian measure of the angle as the constant of proportionality; derive the formula for the area of a sector. For this lesson, the students need to know how to use the formula to find the circumference of a circle, but also, how the find the measurement of an arc, without forgetting that they need to find only when the satellite completes 70% of the orbit, and how many degrees are 70% of the arc. Students should have a background on how to change the percent to a decimal, or to a fraction. Also, there are multiple ways on how the students can find the answer. It is probably that most students will only use the radius of the Earth, which is 6370 km. However, they can miss important information: the satellite is orbiting 100 km above the Earth s surface. They need to add ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
