Nonexistent Knight Essay
Italo Calvino who was born was born on October of 1923 and died September 19 of 1985 was an
Italian journalist, and writer of short story and novels. His books are a mix of low and high culture,
real science with fantasy, history and contemporary life. In the satirical novel The Nonexistent Knight
the story told is of a Knight named Agiluf, who does not possess a body but exists inside a suit of
armor through his will. As Agiluf goes on a quest to prove that the princess of the Scottish king s
virginity has not been taken to prove his knighthood. There is some silliness to it but there is meaning
to its characters as each one has its own use in its twists and turns In Calvino s novel he uses
conventions from medieval romantic literature postmodernism and modernism to make the product
what it was.
The blueprint for the creation of this novel is the use of medieval romantic literature but at moments
goes away from them. One of major conventions he takes is the use of ... Show more content on

The use of medieval romantic literature gave him a backbone as to what he can set the story in and
give it its momentum. The immersive time of knights and chivalry gave it the characteristics it needed.
As he took his ideas he made them not subject or bound to the normality s that these characters should
have. It made them unique and dynamic in which how different they were made them special and
important to the story. The connect Calvino has to post modernism makes it crazy. Somethings are all
over the place and makes it enjoyable to be caught up in the foolishness that he brings to life.
Modernism gives the ability to raise questions and critically think of what is going on throughout the
novel and create connections with what Calvino was attempting to portray. All of the conventions used
gave and made The Nonexistent Knight the right novel that was

Courage Of Nelson Mandela
Nelson Mandela quotes Courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it . He, Malala
Yousafzai and Mother Jones worked tirelessly for their causes. Nelson Mandela fought to end
apartheid for his people. Malala Yousafzai was determined to stand up for girls educational rights. And
unfair child labor laws was what drove Mother Jones to fight so hard for child labor rights. These
activists, Malala Yousafzai, Mother Jones, and Nelson Mandela all fought for equal opportunity that
leads to happiness and success for everyone.
Nelson Mandela, as the committed president of South Africa, worked tirelessly to abolish apartheid,
thereby making South Africa a liberated country. Mandela was dedicated to the ideas he believed he
should defend, and overcame challenges such as a long prison term, Mandela was jailed for his
political activities, and after a widely publicized trial, was sentenced to life in prison...Over the years,
Mandela became the world s best known political prisoner, gaining international support for his fight
against apartheid. (Nelson Mandela introduction). Mandela has shown great courage and strength in
his fight. After being released from a 27 year prison term, he went on to gain the trust of his country
by becoming the first black South African president. Mandela took a stand against apartheid and was a

Carnegie And Rockefeller Captain Of Industry Essay
Throughout the developing stages of the United states, many people played very key parts in their way
of dealing with industrialization and helping our country grow. Andrew Carnegie is the man known
for taking over the steel industry. Carnegie had done his research and planning to try to take over the
steel industry. Rockefeller is another big name that will be remembered as the man who took over the
oil industry. Rockefeller was a man of his patience and wisdom to force his competition out of
business instead of taking over. Now, Rockefeller and Carnegie are two names that sit a top of a fence.
Robber Barons on one side and Captains of Industry on the other. Captains of Industry seem to be the
most fitting for these two industrializers since they both were considered huge philanthropists through
their donating and contributions to society. Rockefeller and Carnegie both payed very low wages, this

since they were so good at taking over their industry. It has been stated by historians that without the
effects of Carnegie and Rockefeller, America wouldn t be the same since the absence of them would
change the history and inevitably America would ve lost WWI and WWII since the steel wouldn t had
been as abundant and the amount of oil wouldn t help to transport people, troops and goods. The main
effects of Carnegie are the skyscrapers and landmarks we have today in our cities and even around the

transportation. The amount of help and improvement made by the two industrializers has helped to

Success And Personal Success
Success is more than the definition that society has created over the course of the years. Being
successful in society is very different than actually being successful in my opinion. Success in my
opinion is having the courage, strength and the ability to work hard towards your goals no matter
what. Also at the same time being humble and able to appreciate what you have accomplished by not
bragging your success to someone who is lesser than you. When I was young, I always wanted to
drive a brand new Land Rover and live in a mansion with my husband and kids. I was always going to

want to be someone that my friends, co workers and anyone around me will be able to count on me no
matter what. After I graduate from Endicott and receive my diploma, I will feel that I have taken the
right steps in being able to be one of the most successful. I want to be able to tell my kids about all the
great times I had at Endicott and how proud I am to have gone to such an amazing school that has
contributed to my success in so many ways. This will allow me to look back and appreciate the friends
I had made, the experiences I encountered, and the amazing education I received. Endicott will help
me succeed professionally in various ways. Since Endicott is just twenty minutes from Boston and the
best hospitals in the area there will be a lot of internships that will be available to me. When I walk
into these internships on my first day, I will be excited for the work force in the moment and for after
my education at Endicott. I feel that I will be better prepared for the real world work force compared
to most of the other college students. I will have the knowledge and experience to succeed in whatever

Comparing Brahms And Pachelbel s Poem Time Line
Time Line
I detect the scent of round two blowing on the wind that gently courses its way over the hilly horizon
as the sun sets on the final page of a new chapter ... can you see it? Can you feel it? It s warm and
moist and is the color of old, stained and tattered sepia photographs of another time a time lost and
forgotten somewhere in between addiction and sobriety; a time after the birth of our children but
before the death of our parents; a time when love made sense and all the horror in the world couldn t
knock us off the back of the unicorn we once believed into existence with enough conviction to make
it as real as Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, Jesus and peace.
Oh my! Where has the time gone, and who are the keepers of time? Have they absconded with it,
along with our dreams, our realities, our nightmares? Will they return with it, or shall we just sit here
awaiting the end like two fishermen waiting for a nibble in a dried up lake? The question remains
unanswered just like many others, but wait we must, because we are still at the end of a long line and
our number isn t up yet, and this is one line where line jumpers are more than welcome.

Australia International Relations Essay
This essay will critically analyse Australia s international relations with close neighbour Indonesia in
terms of how positive their relationship is. Although Australia and Indonesia s relationship cooperates
on many issues including security, economics, education and population development, their
diplomatic relationship has recently plunged due to political clashes between the two governments.
Howard notes the strengths of the Indonesia Australian affiliation in how the leaders of each nation in
the past have successfully allied to build a stronger relationship. An example of this is foreign aid
support that Australia has continuously contributed to Indonesia, notably the $1 billion Australia
Indonesia Partnership for Reconstruction and Development agreement following the 2004 Boxing Day
tsunami crisis. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In response to the executions, Australia exhausted is diplomacy by withdrawing their foreign
ambassador Paul Grigson from Jakarta immediately after the executions as a sign of displeasure in
response to the ignorance and disrespect that Indonesia conveyed in regards to the importance of the
Indonesia Australia relationship. It is questionable that the Indonesian government was more
concerned about its authority to the local population and its influence of power as a small nation, over
their relations with neighbouring western countries such as Australia.
In addition, it was announced in the 2015 Federal Budget that Australia would decrease its aid to
Indonesia significantly from $627.7 million to $375.7 million following the decade long and highly
strenuous battle surrounding the death penalty and Indonesia s battle against drug crimes. (Department

Rhetorical Techniques In Fight Club
Lit Analysis Paper In Chuck Palahniuk s novel Fight Club the main character is in fact never named
throughout the book. He s never called by his name or even speaks of it. We re forced to view in the
3rd person, the events and life of this character and the battle he endeavors with insomnia and the
suspicions friends that he meets. Tyler Durden comes along when the narrator is in need of a friend
and turns out being a terrible influence, but is his closest friend. It was his idea to start the fight club to
let out frustrations and anger of everyday guys that want to walk into their boss s office and upper cut
them. Palahniuk s usage of imagery, diction, and foreshadowing shows the physical, and
psychological, battle that the narrator is enduring. The title of the novel suggest that the entirety of the

Its the bridge that connects one idea to another. All night long I was dreaming I was humping Marla
Singer. (56). This is the first noticeable piece of foreshadowing in the novel when you re left confused,
why was it written in the first place. The narrator claims to have a strong dislike for Marla, that is
reaffirmed in later pages of the book. It was written to show the split of the narrator s psyche. How the
narrator is slowly deteriorating mentally from holding in two personalities and the other one being
strongly destructive. The erosion to his mental stability is also evident with the little tangents that the
narrator takes that often show how out of touch he is. The imagery to foreshadowing connection is not
uncommon in Fight Club, is a strategy that is comfortable for Palahniuk to use to get his point across;
only after you cross a very winding road to eventually get to his point of intent. The intent is so
noticeable when you realize it. You feel stupid you didn t see it before, was just so well

Compare And Contrast Democrat And Republican Parties
The Democratic and Republican parties are two of the major contemporary political parties in the
United States. Although there are some similarities between the parties like the common view that our
country requires change. Regarding economic, social and foreign policy issues, the differences of
these two political platforms are what set them apart.
Concerning economic development, the stances of Democrats and Republicans vary significantly.
Regarding the issue of tax policy, the Democratic Party is committed to reforming the tax code, so that
no millionaire pays a smaller share of income than a middle class family, while Republicans want to
eliminate the death tax and repeal the Alternative minimum tax to guard the American people against
hyper taxation. (Naccp) On the topic of Medicare, the Democratic platform says the party will oppose
any efforts to privatize or voucherize the program, while the Republican platform would reshape the

The Administrative Principles of Management
The administrative principles of management, created in the early 20th century by French industrialist
Henri Fayol, changed the way that many view management. Fayol s principles focused mainly on the
management teams of businesses and helped establish a top to bottom hierarchal system to produce a
more structured organization (Brunsson, 2008; Yoo, Lemak, Choi, 2008; Fells, 2000). This essay will
focus on four of the 14 key principles of administrative theory unity of command, subordination of
individual interest for the interest of the organization, esprit de corp. and remuneration and analyze
how they have been applied in a leading New Zealand company, Pumpkin Patch Limited (Ltd.)
(Samson Daft, 2009, p.64; Wren, Bedian, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although it has been adapted from Fayol s original idea, subordination of individual interest of
general interest, it is still present in Pumpkin Patch Ltd.
In a company that is downsizing, and even when it is not, Esprit de Corp is a principle that plays a
major factor in contemporary organizations today. Esprit de Corp is when a business creates, and
maintains, employee harmony, unity and morale (Fells, 2000; Rodrigues, 2001). This allows for a
happy working environment, and a happy employee means that they are more likely to achieve
productivity and efficiency outcomes. Pumpkin Patch Ltd. has adapted this to fit their family
environment that they feel the company has (Pumpkin Patch Limited, n.d.). The company believes in a
balance between work, leisure and flexibility as well as providing an in house kindergarten for
employees children (Pumpkin Patch Limited, n.d). This, although fairly minor, is a prime example of
how contemporary businesses have adapted one of the founding principles of management and
adapted it to fit their organization. As well as this Pumpkin Patch have organized their business into
teams such as the information technology (IT) team and the design team who are an integral part of
the organization in helping attain their goals and aims ( Brookes, et al., 2008). As Pumpkin Patch has

Arson Detection : The Discovery of Flammable Liquids . In this practice , we analyzed flammable
liquids by the method of gas chromatograph . First of all , we tried to find the retention time of
standard flammable liquids to be able to identify our unknown sample comparing with their retention
times . The standards samples were : charcoal lighter , gasoline , kerosene , light fluid , shellac thinner
, and paint thinner . The retention time is calculated by the formula : We injected 5 (1)L of paint
thinner using the syringe needle into the gas chromatograph and we used the speed of 1cm/min to test
which volume could be used . However , the pick was too high and we changed the volume (2)to 1

though the building was almost entirely burned down ? Because a considerable portion of the fuel

. How might one determine the physical location of the origin of the fire , so that he might know
where to look for evidence of accelerant ? By the burn/damage patterns found at the origin of the fire
it is possible to have an idea of which accelerant was used . When volatile vapors burn above a
flammable liquid accelerant they leave distinct patterns (15)unlike other combustible products usually
found in a structure . Conclusion Based on the comparison of the retention times of the standard
flammable liquids and the average of the unknown sample , we concluded that kerosene was the
accelerant used . We run this samples five times and each time we had a different peak that did not
match with the standard s peaks . So , we calculated the retention time and we found that the unknown
sample had a retention time of 0.7 (16)min and the kerosene had 0.8 (17)min as the retention time ,

Essay on Advertising and the Women s Movement
Avoiding eye contact and cowering with her legs together, Aphrodite s naked pudica pose in the Venus
de Medici ironically calls attention to the areas that she is trying hide, her breast and genitals (fig. 1).
The futile attempts to hide her anatomy would be insignificant if not for the pudica s contrasting
counterpart, the male contrapposto pose, shown in figure 2. The nude male stands in a confident
upright posture with his head held high and penis proudly exposed. In ancient Greece a man s penis
was a symbol of his strength, intelligence and authority, whereas pudica, pudendus, in Latin, means
female genitalia and shame. According to Etienne Walla, an expert of Law, and Elisha Renne, who has

Explained by Jeanne van Eeden, a professor in the Visual Arts Department at the University of
Pretoria South Africa, advertising in capitalistic societies has a tremendous role in shaping how people
view the world they live in (Eeden 3). She goes on to say, Advertising images...stem from sets of
power relations and enlist cultural codes, stereotypes, myths and ideologies in their social production
of meaning (Eeden 3). In other words, modern advertising reflects cultural class systems. Therefore,
the poststructural feminist argument made by art historian Eunice Lipton that women did not form
their own identities because they were not allowed to participate in art history, supports the idea that
reoccurring images of women like the pudica pose created strict feminine standards based on male
expectations (Lipton 10). Even though women were enjoying the same freedoms as men, by the 1970s
the obsessive preoccupation with the female body that took over American media made it apparent
that the impact of long standing male dominance had already corrupted the female psyche.
In order to appreciate the dramatic challenge faced by the Women s Movement throughout the 1960s it
s important to know the extent that the flagrant and unapologetic misogynist atmosphere had on U.S.
advertising. Women were still portrayed with the passive nature of the Medici Venus; however a direct

Sinister Games on a Dark Mountain
It was the darkest night of the year and the winter winds had finally arrived, biting into the skin of the
traveler as he pushed onward through the forbidding forest. The villagers had warned him against
venturing into the woods after sunset; they pleaded, saying that people had gone into the forest and
had never been seen again. But he had a deadline to meet. The traveler was carrying a letter for the
magistrate of the county beyond the mountains, a message warning of an impending attack from the
south. The traveler had to get to the county before dawn or all would be lost, so he hurried deeper into
the unfriendly wilderness. He paused, leaning against an ancient oak to catch his breath. Crack! The
traveler s heart froze in his chest. He looked around wildly, searching for the source of this sound. He
was about to call out to determine if the noise had been caused by a person, but the words died in his
throat as he heard laughter. The laughter sounded like that of a child but there was something off about
it. There was a cruel twinge to the laughter, almost as if it was mocking him. The laughter subsided
and was replaced by the sound of something scratching against wood. The scratching noise sounded
almost metallic, as if it were made by a knife or a sword. The traveler drew his own blade and shouted
Identify yourself, friend or foe? The scratching noise stopped abruptly and a child s whisper replied,

How Did Dorothea Dix Changed The Lives Of The Mentally Ill
There s 7 billion (give or take a few) people on this Earth. Every single solitary one of them is capable
of changing the world in a major way, like Dorothea Dix did. Dorothea Dix was a woman of the mid
1800 s who devoted her life to visiting homes and hospitals for the mentally ill and fixing them up.
She founded countless mental hospitals, she changed how people thought of and treated the mentally
ill, and she got important political figures to help her with her cause. Dorothea Dix changed the lives
of the mentally ill for all of time to come.
Dorothea Dix founded numerous hospitals and treatment centers for the mentally ill. In my research I

My Goals For A Social Worker
I did not always want to be a Social Worker. I wanted to be a psychologist when I graduated high
school. My dreams for my career got put on hold because I became a single mother at a young age.
Raising my child on my own was the hardest and most important thing to me. It was not until the
Department of Children and Families (DCF) came and removed my niece from my sister s home,
when I realized what Social Work was. At that moment, I knew I wanted to help children the same
way the social workers do.
My educational career started when I was laid off from my job 5 years ago. Part of the severance
package that I received made it possible for me to collect unemployment until I finished my degree. I
earned my A.S. degree in Human Services, and am currently working on obtaining my B.S. in Social
Work, all while being a stay at home mom to a teenager. I have made the Dean s List for the past few
semesters and would like the opportunity to help others with all the services that are available for the
clients that are in need.
Social Work, as a profession, is a great fit for me. My interest in social work originates from having
the desire to be able to help children that are abused and neglected to find better homes and safe
environments. Helping foster children find loving families, so they can be loved and happy too. I
enjoy helping and making a difference in the lives of others. I have been so close to being homeless it
scared me so much. Helping the homeless, homeless veterans,

Essay On Bernie Sanders
Bernie Sanders once said Finally, let [us] understand that when we stand together, we will always win.
When men and women stand together for justice, we win. When black, white and Hispanic people
stand together for justice, we win. Bernie Sanders started as a young activist fighting to desegregate
and end the Vietnam war, As he got older he dwelled into politics and became a self identified
socialist; he competed against corporate backing and a corrupt political system yet remained true to
his beliefs of Universal Health Care System, affordable education, better social security and welfare,
the right for a woman to choose what she wants for her body, cares for the environment, but most
importantly, Bernie Sanders believes in America.

One of his greatest challenges as Mayor of Burlington was the Lake Champlain waterfront; he faced
against Tony Pomerleau, a developer backed by corporations who wanted to build apartment

created a lively waterfront that brought the community together with public beaches and parks, a
boathouse, community gardens, and campsites; this area is now home to many events and
conservation efforts and is a tourist destination to visiting Vermont. In 1987, Bernie Sanders was voted
as one of the best mayors in America by the U.S. News World Report. Bernie Sanders success in
politics did not end there as he became the first socialist member of the House of Representatives and

what extent did women working factory jobs change feminine roles in society? The years from 1939

The first source which will be evaluated in depth is a letter written by Mary Anderson in October of

needed in order to build essential supplies for the war effort, such as bombs, heavy machinery, and
auxiliary. The push for women showed a changing view of how capable women were sought after by
companies. In 1943, more than 310,000 women worked in the U.S. aircraft industry, making up 65
percent of the industry s total workforce compared to just 1 percent in the pre war years (Striking
Women). Women workers were recruited by the munitions industry, which was shown through the
U.S. government s Rosie the Riveter propaganda campaign. Rosie the Riveter became one of the most
successful recruitment tools in American history (Striking Wome ). Prior to World War II, propaganda
targeting women had only been asking them to buy war bonds, plant victory gardens, and ration foods
(Women, Gender, and World War). Rosie the Riveter was the first time a government had released a
propaganda campaign where women had a job and were independent. This showed a newfound
respect for women and their skills. The changes in societal interpretation of women allowed them to
become more than homemakers, and put more focus on what women could do rather than what they
looked like. The push for women in factories during the years 1939 to 1945 showed that women could
be trusted around dangerous materials, conveyed a sense of

Effects Of Political Corruption In Nigeria
Political corruption is a significant problem in Africa. Many of the regions in Africa were seeking for
independence from European nations that had caused for political views to differ. The ideas of leaders
were not all similar which may have created a majority of these countries in Africa to express their
feelings and form their own political parties. Besides wanting to be freed from European rule, the rise
of political corruption could also be faulted to the African leaders of different regions of Africa to
voice their own beliefs with the determination that it lacked unifying the nation s overall.

The transformation of politics in Nigeria fell into the trap of military rule that caused for chaos to
occur across the country. Colonial chiefs were taking positions in office which they were not qualified
for and used force and bribery to win over the people of Nigeria. The idea that Nigeria was being set
up in this form of government was misleading and did not let the people feel as though they were
independent. Regional leaders were seeking to take over local politics of this country and were able to
do so when it came to the national and local elections. When Nigeria, revamped their constitution in
the 1950s, which divided Nigeria into three different regions caused a fight to see who would control
the political party. Nigeria located in West Africa is made up of three separate cultures in the area that
lead to disunity and issues with the government. The Hausa Fulani in the north, the Yoruba in the
west, and Ibo in the east. Amongst these cultures, they started to form their political parties. There was
the National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons, the Action Group and Northern People s
Congress. The British should be held responsible for encouraging these groups to compete against one
another. The British were responsible for favoring other political parties over others that would help
create cockiness to development in the long run. The British mostly supported the N.C.N.C and

Perseus Archetypes
erica s obsession with Greek and Roman culture has been around for centuries. Buildings like the
Capitol, the White House, and even the Lincoln Memorial were designed with the intended purpose of
portraying the intimidating architecture of Ancient Greece. In fashion, elaborate clothing crafted by
designers imitate early Greek attire to display a regal femininity or a warrior like masculinity. For
entertainment purposes, books, television shows, and movies are used to carry on the myths and
stories of the Greek gods and Heroes. Depending on each myth, the story could have been
compromised from the act of being passed down from generation to generation. In the original myth
of Perseus, multiple archetypes were used and provided stereotypical roles in the myth. However, the
modern day Clash of the Titans movie portrayed the myth in a completely different context, added or
removed new characters and even changed the archetype of the characters, thus changing the meaning
of the story. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Persuasive Essay On Tipping
The United States is one of the few counties in the world still using the old fashion tipping system.
During the late 19th century legislature rapidly abolishes the practice of tipping when it is introduced
by wealthy Americans. Eventually restauranteurs find a way to prospect of passing labor costs to
consumer, which convinced the American to accept the practice of tipping. When many American don
t understand the purpose of tipping is for but somehow it is customer responsibility to pay the
restaurant employees based on their service. There are many reasons to argue about the tipping
system. But, most of them ignore the very basic problem with abolishing tipping in America, the most
difficult of which is our absurdly low minimum wage. The practice is abhorrent from a historical
perspective. Recently, New York City s Sushi Yasuda owner Scott Rosenberg announced that he
decided to eliminate tipping altogether. Following the custom in Japan, he decided to pay his
employees higher wages and redistribute the cost to the customers by raising the prices on the menu.
Is this a good idea? Rosenberg, who abolished tipping at his restaurant, made a very powerful
statement against the Outdated of tipping practice. He penned what many others believe is one of the
most succinct and yet irrefutable way. The staff no longer worry about making a lot of tip on weekend
and penny on weekday. Rosenberg quote The risk is that your prices appear to be high on the menu.

Weed , pot , chronic , sticky icky , and many others, are all nicknames for the widely popular and

America s Role in Containing Communism Essay
Immediately after World War II, another war emerged from the horizon. The Cold War, a battle for
both political and military superiority between the Soviet Union and the United States, began soon
after World War II, with Vietnam as a central issue. Vietnam, bordered by China, Laos, and Cambodia,
became a colony of the French in the late 1800s, who exploited the locals for raw material, such as tin,
rubber, and oil. They justified imperialism by insisting that they were protecting the Vietnamese and
held power over Indochina until World War II. Desperate for resources, the Japanese conquered
Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, for raw materials during World War II. While the French did

However, due to Bao Dai s weak leadership, the democratic South could only remain independent if
aid [kept] coming at an increased tempo (Puppets). The inexperienced emperor could do little to win
the support of the majority of the Vietnamese and retaliate against the guerillas of Ho Chi Minh,
forcing the Americans to intervene if democracy was to prevail over communism. As the Red pressure

When it became clear that Bao Dai could not expel the communists, the United States decided to

such as raiding pagodas. After refusing to sign the agreements at the Geneva Conference, the United

Akio Toyota Criticism
A Criticism of Akio Toyota s Speech for Recall Issues Apologetic discourse is a very important form
for the accused to express their sorry, defend their reputation and regain speakers support or
forgiveness. Many speakers will pay much attention to preparing their apologia and spare not efforts
to present its contents. Apologia (from Greek ἀπολογία, speaking in defense ) is a formal defense of a
position or action. (Oxford Dictionary,2016) In modern usage, apologia describes a formal defense
and should not be confused with the sense of the word apology as the expression of regret. (Merriam
Webster Dictionary.,2016) It is apparent that an apologia is more like speaker s self defense, which
is pretty consistent with what Ware and Linkugel testified in their article They Spoke in Defense of
Themselves: on the Generic Criticism of Apologia . Thus in this paper, the author will make some
appropriate and reasonable comments on Akio Toyota s speech by employing some reliable theoretical
materials from Ware and Linkugel. Toyota Motor Corporation, affiliated with Japan s Mitsui Chaebol,

Artificial Insemination and the Rights of Women, Men, and...
Women have adamantly battled for political and social reproductive rights since, in particular artificial
insemination, have become mainstream phenomena in the recent decade with a focus on rights of
women. In fact, doctors have experimented with the procedure for nearly a century. However, with the
women¹s liberation movement of the 1970s, physician assisted and self insemination has become more
and more popular among heterosexual career women and lesbians.

Women, usually healthy and fertile, enlist the help of physicians because they do not have access to
the one element that will yield them a child. And so, doctors prescribe a cure of sorts sperm. The
procedure allows women increased power to regulate the reproductive processes of their bodies.
Ironically, artificial insemination was not created as a method of empowerment for women. Rather for
men. Male scientists and researchers developed the technology for eugenic purposes, not to alleviate
the pressures of alternative lifestyles of women. That is, to improve the human species.
With the onset of research in genetics in the beginning of the twentieth century, scientists entertained
theories of quality control with respect to human reproduction. Scientists such as Francis Crick and
Dr. William Shockley believed that the growth rate of the population was increasing too rapidly, and
most importantly certain unfavorable demographic clusters were increasing. In short, the wrong
classes and races were reproducing with more frequency than was desired by these men. They hoped
that future progeny would be of the same superior caliber as themselves. To yield this, they proposed
schemes to tax children; to provide cash incentives for sterilization; to license women for the number
of children they may bear and men for the sperm they may deposit in seed banks;

The Causes Of The Japanese Internment Of WWII
The Japanese internment of WWII was one of the biggest cases of racial prejudice America has ever
committed. During a time when Italian and German Americans were a much bigger threat to our
nation s security, we deliberately alienated Japanese citizens in our society. Not only did we restrict
the freedoms of American born citizens for three years, but we have also caused long term, irreparable
damage to the Japanese people, and their society. While internment may have decreased the odds of
Japanese spies in our military and mob violence it is no excuse for the atrocity we put our own citizens
through. American citizens, who are granted the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happyness,
were robbed of these very rights our country was founded on. Internment camps were often in the
middle of nowhere, and in very disatifactory condition for all residing in them. After internment many
people, since they could not pay their mortgage loans, lost their homes and life savings causing
widespread poverty. These and many other factors are why internment during WWII was unjust and
motivated by racial prejudice, not national security. While Japanese internment may have isolated a
small amount of Japanese spies, it was unjustified considering that the majority of people interned
where innocent. According to government officials at the time, Japanese American citizens posed no
threat to the West coast. Curtis B Munson said in the Muson Report that, There is no Japanese

Causes And Effects Of Witchcraft
Thesis:
Beginning in roughly 1450 continuing to around 1750, a fear of witchcraft in Europe led to many
years of witch hunts and executions of a multitude of individuals, an estimated 70% of those accused
being women. The idea of witches and witchcraft caused people to begin accusing others of almost
anything, the accused becoming scapegoats for the people of Europe. The witches were defined as
problems for cities and state to the people because they brought death, illness, failure of crops,
misfortune and evil wherever they went, and they worshipped the devil, God s powerful, malicious
enemy.
Reasons for being defined as problems/Introduction:
Starting in the 15th century, the idea of witchcraft began to spread throughout Europe. Accusations
were made against so called witches who rejected Jesus and the holy sacraments and worshipped
Satan (the devil). Inevitable and unforeseen accidents and casualties began to be blamed on suspicious
people in villages, primarily women. Some of these accidents included disease, death on humans or
livestock, injuries, men being sexually impotent, destruction of crops, and burning of towns. Many
people who prepared herbal remedies were targets of the witch hunts, especially if their medicines
failed to heal a patient. Midwives, people who tended to children after they were born, slaves, outcasts
of a village, elderly women of a village, widows, doctors, and much more people were all targets as
well. If they had given medicine to somebody

The Importance Of Education And Lifelong Learning
Education and Lifelong Learning. The ALA s fifth value centers on the library s need to provide
opportunities to their communities for life long learning. Librarians are encouraged to promote the
creation, maintenance, and enhancement of a learning society (Core Values of Librarianship, 2004)
through their work. The concepts behind the OA Publishing movement work in tandem with the
efforts of librarians to establish life long learning lifelines to patrons by providing free access to what
was once expensive and/or inaccessible information. Access to academic data should not be limited to
those with the good fortune to have resources available to them at will. All people with the desire and
drive to access and utilize academic research should be afforded the opportunity to do so regardless of
their financial situation or institutional affiliation. OA journals allow for self directed learning to take
place outside the traditional constraint of an academic environment, thus it actively promotes
continued education and learning opportunities for non traditional information communities.
Intellectual Freedom. The ALA clearly supports the resistance of censorship in libraries. Librarians
serve their communities as facilitators of information access. Actively expurgating content in an
attempt to safeguard users from what has been arbitrarily deemed non compliant is in direct conflict
with the objectives of information dissemination. Open access initiatives run parallel to the principles
of intellectual freedom in that both advocate for increased access to information (Peet, 2017).
Although similar, fighting for open access and fighting against censorship are not quite the same
enterprise; however, they do share a common enemy: economic barriers to content (Peet, 2017).
Although some have more than others, all institutions have certain budgetary restrictions placed on
them. In order to acquire electronic resources for their patrons, libraries often purchase pre bundled
electronic materials from vendors and publishers. These bundles are often inconsistently priced, and
may include unnecessary applications and exclude valuable resources. As a result, the bundling
business model can serve to

Relatable Secondary Data
2.0 SECONDARY DATA
According to (Wilson, 2012), Secondary data is information that has been previously collected for a
purpose other than the current research project. Secondary data are best remembered as second hand ,
because such data are old primary data. Good researchers start with secondary data before designing
primary research studies (Bradley, 2014, p.70). The three main types of secondary data are
Documentary, Survey based and Multi source secondary data. An example of Documentary secondary
data would be a written report such as an email. Survey based secondary data is usually information
that is collected through a questionnaire and Multi source secondary data is information gathered from
multiple sources such as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Opinions leaders can have first hand experience of the attraction and therefore will have the potential
to positively influence future consumers of the attraction. A positive of utilizing a report is that it
contains applied research, unlike an academic paper that would contain theories. As a result, this is
more cost effective as it provides data that has already been researched at a low cost. Secondary data
may solve the problem without the need for any primary research: time and money is thereby saved
(CIM, 2017) Although secondary data is usually cheap to access, it would be beneficial for the
business to ensure that it is economical enough to use. This risk can be overcome by York Dungeons
by carrying out a cost benefit analysis which is a technique that would allow the technique to be
assessed on if it would be beneficial and economical for their business.
A possible weakness of a report would be that it could include no real concepts and models as they
focus more on the actual findings. It may be that the report is not relevant in relation to the marketing
of a certain business. The golden rule when using secondary data is only use meaningful data. External
information should be consulted in order of ease and speed of access (Hague, 2004). This supports
that a business such as York Dungeons would need to be cautious when using secondary data, that it is
adequate enough to use

Paul Fleischman s When This Cruel War Is Over
Themes are universal and can be shared within multiple items, text, motivation, etc. In the historical
novel, Bull Run, by Paul Fleischman, the Union song, When This Cruel War Is Over, by Charles
Carroll Sawyer, and the Confederate Song, God Save The South, by Earnest Halpin and Charles W.A.
Ellerbrock all share a common theme. War can inflict many different emotions when thinking about
war or being directly involved in a war. It doesn t matter if the emotions or shared within a society or
only kept to themselves, people still experience this. When war is present in one s mind, sadness can
be one of the first emotion that can be felt. In Bull Run, two characters can easily show this to us. Lily

With this in mind, a not so shared emotion when it comes to war is pride. People often associate bad
emotions like anger and hate with wars, but there can be some good emotions like happy or hope.
Pride is can be positive and negative. Anyways, Bull Run illustrates the fact that war can be associated
with war. In Flora Wheelworth s chapter, her daughter Susannah sent of her husband by yelling
(Fleschman 10), Do try not to soil the coat! In this phrase, there was no signs of worry. Instead, she
was proud that her husband was fighting in the war because she believed that her husband will win.
Addition to this, in A.B. Tilbury s chapters, there was a chapter where A.B. Tilbury s regiment was
slacking off and not taking anything seriously. Some soldiers in his regiment were chasing chickens!
When someone has a lot of pride, they tend to underestimate their enemy and act over confident like
A.B. s regiment right now. When there is too much pride, this emotion turns into a bad thing like this
case, but when there is the right amount of pride, people can go

as an opportunity to buy those components, such as memory chips and LCDs, at lower prices and in
most the time at cost, and use it as a competitive advantage in its manufacturing.
Apple s management had predicted its margins to be shrieked for the next 5 years; as a cause of that
recession that reshaped the market. The management took a fast and smart decision and they predict
the market after they analyzed it and found out that they can make better future by using the low
prices of the parts, rather than downsizing.
Apple had adapted to the market change by developing the app revolution, where developers (most of
them are apple s customers) can design and program their own apps and generate profits, which added
about 300,000 jobs to the U.S. economy. They also provided app developers with the tools and
distribution they need to bring their best ideas to tens of millions of its customers worldwide.
Sharing their customers with developing their products build a strong and long relationship between
them, and that s an long term adaptive to the future market where the customers are more involved and
they value their services over the prices.

Haircut Saga Case Study
Delving into the Trinity Grammar haircut saga, during the crisis phase, there are several concerns
which enraged the stakeholders, namely the School Council s decision to sack Brown, its passive
attitude, and empty promises. While the trigger event was unstable, the suddenness and negativity
impacted attribution. Using the three attribution dimension, the Trinity Grammar haircut saga dons a
high personal control, low external control, and a locus in the actor which could strengthen the
perception of intentional actions by the School Council (Coombs 2004, p. 268). To interpret the
situation, crisis communicators should resort to the assessment of crisis type in order to correctly
specify the emphasis of evaluation (Druckman, cited in Coombs 2004, p. 269). Brown s dismissal falls
under the challenges crisis type in the accidental crisis cluster, for the stakeholders are not convinced
that Trinity Grammar is operating in an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In terms of crisis history, Trinity Grammar has no identical cases that have reached the same scale of
the haircut saga in the past. However, the alarming staff turnover rate of over 150 teaching and support
staff leaving the school in the past four years was brought to public attention (News.com.au 2018).
With regard to relationship history, the four incidents highlighted in the statement from the 2017
School Leaders provided an uncomplimentary perspective in respect of the tenability of Dr Davies
position as Headmaster. The aspect of severity enables the organisation to perform damage appraisal
and examine the potential issues that could arise from the current crisis (Coombs 2004, p. 271). In the
Trinity Grammar case, as the alumni association threatened to pursue legal action, the organisation

Oscar Hammerstein Research Paper
There are many well known lyricists and composers, but none of them have left a mark on the theatre
world like Rodgers and Hammerstein. The duo produced eleven musicals during their partnership and
made an extensive change in musical comedy. They set a new standard that are still followed to this
day in musical history. Before they became the Rodgers and Hammerstein, they were Oscar
Hammerstein II and Richard Rodgers, both of New York City. Oscar Hammerstein II was born on July
12, 1895. He was brought up in a theatrical family. His grandfather, Oscar Hammerstein I, was a
famed opera impresario. His father William managed a vaudeville theater, and Uncle Arthur was a
successful producer of Broadway musicals. While Hammerstein was ... Show more content on

They produced plays, musicals, concerts and revivals. The first collaboration of Rodgers and
Hammerstein was entitled Oklahoma! in 1943. They began writing together under the mentors of the
Theatre Guild. They were assigned to make a musical out of the Guilds play Green Grow the Lilacs by
Lynn Riggs. They were making on the score for what would become Oklahoma!. Rodgers had a bold
business notion. He told Hammerstein that it would be foolish if they did not publish their musicals it.
They were seeking to set a system in place that would protect their works and those of others for
decades to come. This musical opened at St. James Theatre and ran for 2,212 performances. The duo
wanted to collaborate on another piece. They knew that anything they created next would be compared
to Oklahoma!, and most likely be unfavorable. They reached out to Molnár to seek the rights to
Liliom. Molnár had refused permission for the work to be adapted. After acquiring the rights, the team
created a work with lengthy sequences of music and made it into a bigger hit. On April 19, 1945,
Carousel opened up on Broadway, and it was an immediate hit with both critics and audiences. It ran
for 890 performances and duplicated its success in the West End, but it never achieved as much
commercial success as Oklahoma!. After the success of their first two musicals, they released their the

The Greatest Movie Ever Sold
The Greatest Movie Ever Sold
Media is everywhere, it became a part of our life. We are exposed to thousands of ad messages every
day and it s hard to imagine how it would feel to live without them constantly surrounding us. Today
we see ads in print publications, TV commercials, emails, on different products, massively scattered in
sport venues, and it s even spreading into public spaces. In his documentary, Morgan Spurlock
delivered a fascinating satire of the process of placing products into movies and tried to delve into the
nature of advertising in our society. In the movie Spurlock talks about product marketing while using
product placement to get brands to sponsor his movie. Of course, some of the brands (Guess, Harmel

For example, in this movie, Spurlock had to drink only POM drinks, eat only Amy s Pizza and stay
only at Hyatt hotels, and there were many things he was obligated to do by the contract besides the
ones mentioned. Even when he showed the ads that he wanted to do for POM segments, they refused
every single one of them and basically told him that they wanted to use comparison with Minute Maid
juice, because that s how they wanted to be perceived. Brands are extremely concerned with their
public image, and that s why in Quentin Tarantino s case Denny s refused to take part in his movies.
His movies usually contain blood and murder scenes and no company wanted to risk being associated
with this theme.
One of the topics covered in the movie is the topic of selling out. The question is whether Spurlock is
selling out or not, and what would selling out look like if it s not the case here. The opinion of the
people, that have been asked this question seems to converge on the notion that he is not selling out,
because he s doing the thing he planned from the start. It s his idea and everything goes according to
plan. But as Spurlock said himself, when you become brand friendly , it s a slippery slope. The door is
open wide the moment you ve made your first deal. Drawing the line may be one of the big challenges
that today s filmmakers and other

Beanie Babies Phenomenon
Beanie Baby phenomenon has really opened a lot of eyes in the toys industry, especially, because this
phenomenon was sustained in an industry that is known to be very turbulent based on the fact that,
there are a lot of substitutes that come into the industry everyday, moreover, the excitement that these
toys create, only can last for a short period of time as buyers in this market (usually children) tend to
have an inconsistent buying behaviour and unpredictable majority of the time. This was not the case
for Beanie Babies.
How did TY Warner achieve that?
Production of the Beanie Babies have started with the original collection of nine Beanies (Spot (the
dog), squealer (the pig), Patti (the platypus), Cubbies (the bear), Chocolate (the ... Show more content

He used a very aggressive and a risky marketing tactic which is limited production of Beanie Babies
and the annual retirement of certain babies, proved to be a successful tactic with high returns. That
tactic created thirst amongst customers to hunt for the rare Beanie Babies from store to the other and
opened the door for the collectors market to start, as the value of the retired Beanie Babies go up in the
secondary market.
Beanie Babies held human features to them like: names, poems and birthday dates that children can
get attached to and will try to get the ones that represent their loved ones or friends birthday dates or
the one that is closest to their pet. The design itself was very appealing to children as it is very simple
and the toy comes under stuffed so the usage will be more interactive and fun for kids and adults
equally.
The launching of the website in 1996 boosted the sales, as customers from all over the world were
able to access it which got them more familiar with the product which as a result generated sales. Also
it acted as a medium for interactions for collectors from all over the world.
Beanie Babies were largely promoted through McDonald s Happy Meal campaign in 1997 and 1998
which brought even more attention to the craze of this phenomenon. Also the introduction of BBOC

Gun Control Laws Are Protect Women From Domestic Abusers...
More gun control laws are needed to protect women from domestic abusers and stalkers. Five women
are killed with firearms consistently in the United States. A lady s danger of being killed increments
500% if a weapon is available amid a local question. Amid the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, 5,364 US
warriors were murdered in real life between Oct. 7, 2001 and Jan. 28, 2015; somewhere around 2001
and 2012 6,410 ladies were slaughtered with a firearm by a close accomplice in the United States. A
2003 investigation of 23 crowded high pay nations found that 86% of ladies killed by guns were in the
United States and American ladies are 11.4 times more inclined to be the casualties of firearm crimes
57% of mass shootings included aggressive behavior at home. For instance, the 2011 mass shooting at
a Seal Beach, CA hair salon supposedly started in view of the shooter s guardianship fight with his ex

Comparing Gilgamesh s Polpol Vuh And Other Myths
Polpol Vuh and other Myths After reading the book Polpol Vuh, I was able to instantly point out many
similarities and differences between two other myths that we have read throughout the class. The first
myth that came to mind was Genesis. Genesis and Polpol Vuh both talk of creation of animals, trees,
and mountains, as well as the creation of mankind, After doing research in the past, I knew that
Genesis and Gilgamesh had similarities which then put Gilgamesh in the category with Polpol Vuh
and Genesis. While reading these tales, I was also able to answer a series of questions based on my
opinions. In this essay, I will explain my beliefs about what the people in these three tales seem to
believe about how they came to be, what qualities they share, what is important to them, why their
creator(s) make them, their reason for being where they are and lastly, what a good person and bad
person would be like if these people wanted to be like their creator(s). I believe that the people in
Genesis believe that they are created from Gods image. In genesis, it states, And God created the
human in his image, in the image of God He created him, male and female He created them. (Norton
Vol. A 159) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I believe that the Mayan people had corn as their main source of food which is why they believed that
they were made from corn. In Gilgamesh, there were many different characters. Enkidu was one that
was created by Aruru, a Goddess of creation. She sculpted him from clay and her spittle. In all three
tales, the people share many qualities and one of them would be strength, For example, in all three
tales there is a battle that occurs and there is great strength portrayed in each battle, The battle of the
underworld, the battle of Cane and Abel, and the battle between Gilgamesh and the Bull of

First They Killed My Father By Loung Ung
There is a thin line between living and surviving. In the memoir, First They Killed My Father by
Loung Ung, it is evident that one s ability to live a comfortable life is often times thwarted by factors
that force many to try and survive. Cambodian born American human rights activist, Loung Ung, is a
survivor of the Cambodian genocide that took place from 1975 to 1979. While under the influence of
Cambodia s new communist government, the Khmer Rouge, around 1.5 million men, women, and
children died from exhaustion, starvation, and disease. As the daughter of an old democratic
government official, Ung and her family were forced to abandon their old life in hopes for survival. A
reoccurring theme within Ung s memoir is that suffering, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To prevent the possible negative effects of Keav s death on his family, Ung s father used their grief to
encourage their chances towards survival. This is shown later in chapter eleven when Ung s father
says, We all have to forget her death and continue...We don t want the chief to think that we can no
longer contribute to their society. We have to save our strength to go on. Keav would want us to go on;
it is the only way we will survive (Ung, Pg. 100). Ung s father used their mutual loss to promote their
survival. Although it is not blatantly expressed, Ung s father had to comprehend his own suffering in
order to seek out strategies that would be beneficial to their survival as a family. Yet, even with his
own suffering Ung s father found it within himself to encourage his family because he knew that
without his encouragement they each would not have been able to survive that situation. Not only did
Ung s father help them to recover after Keav s death, but he also helped them to each develop the
emotional strength they would need for future reference. After the death of her close friend, Pithy, Ung
wrote, In a panic I get up and run after Kim and Chou out of the shelter, away from Pithy. Away from
her screaming mother. Away from the sorrow that threatens to take residence in my heart (Ung, Pg.
197). With the death of her loved ones continuously lingering in the back of her mind, Ung pushed
herself to move on for purposes of survival. Without

  • 2. Nonexistent Knight Essay Italo Calvino who was born was born on October of 1923 and died September 19 of 1985 was an Italian journalist, and writer of short story and novels. His books are a mix of low and high culture, real science with fantasy, history and contemporary life. In the satirical novel The Nonexistent Knight the story told is of a Knight named Agiluf, who does not possess a body but exists inside a suit of armor through his will. As Agiluf goes on a quest to prove that the princess of the Scottish king s virginity has not been taken to prove his knighthood. There is some silliness to it but there is meaning to its characters as each one has its own use in its twists and turns In Calvino s novel he uses conventions from medieval romantic literature postmodernism and modernism to make the product what it was. The blueprint for the creation of this novel is the use of medieval romantic literature but at moments goes away from them. One of major conventions he takes is the use of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The use of medieval romantic literature gave him a backbone as to what he can set the story in and give it its momentum. The immersive time of knights and chivalry gave it the characteristics it needed. As he took his ideas he made them not subject or bound to the normality s that these characters should have. It made them unique and dynamic in which how different they were made them special and important to the story. The connect Calvino has to post modernism makes it crazy. Somethings are all over the place and makes it enjoyable to be caught up in the foolishness that he brings to life. Modernism gives the ability to raise questions and critically think of what is going on throughout the novel and create connections with what Calvino was attempting to portray. All of the conventions used gave and made The Nonexistent Knight the right novel that was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. Carnegie And Rockefeller Captain Of Industry Essay Throughout the developing stages of the United states, many people played very key parts in their way of dealing with industrialization and helping our country grow. Andrew Carnegie is the man known for taking over the steel industry. Carnegie had done his research and planning to try to take over the steel industry. Rockefeller is another big name that will be remembered as the man who took over the oil industry. Rockefeller was a man of his patience and wisdom to force his competition out of business instead of taking over. Now, Rockefeller and Carnegie are two names that sit a top of a fence. Robber Barons on one side and Captains of Industry on the other. Captains of Industry seem to be the most fitting for these two industrializers since they both were considered huge philanthropists through their donating and contributions to society. Comparing Brahms And Pachelbel s Poem Time Line Time Line I detect the scent of round two blowing on the wind that gently courses its way over the hilly horizon as the sun sets on the final page of a new chapter ... can you see it? Can you feel it? It s warm and moist and is the color of old, stained and tattered sepia photographs of another time a time lost and forgotten somewhere in between addiction and sobriety; a time after the birth of our children but before the death of our parents; a time when love made sense and all the horror in the world couldn t knock us off the back of the unicorn we once believed into existence with enough conviction to make it as real as Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, Jesus and peace. Oh my! Where has the time gone, and who are the keepers of time? Have they absconded with it, along with our dreams, our realities, our nightmares? Will they return with it, or shall we just sit here awaiting the end like two fishermen waiting for a nibble in a dried up lake? The question remains unanswered just like many others, but wait we must, because we are still at the end of a long line and our number isn t up yet, and this is one line where line jumpers are more than welcome. Although Australia and Indonesia s relationship cooperates on many issues including security, economics, education and population development, their diplomatic relationship has recently plunged due to political clashes between the two governments. Howard notes the strengths of the Indonesia Australian affiliation in how the leaders of each nation in the past have successfully allied to build a stronger relationship. The Administrative Principles of Management The administrative principles of management, created in the early 20th century by French industrialist Henri Fayol, changed the way that many view management. Fayol s principles focused mainly on the management teams of businesses and helped establish a top to bottom hierarchal system to produce a more structured organization (Brunsson, 2008; Yoo, Lemak, Choi, 2008; Fells, 2000). This essay will focus on four of the 14 key principles of administrative theory unity of command, subordination of individual interest for the interest of the organization, esprit de corp. and remuneration and analyze how they have been applied in a leading New Zealand company, Pumpkin Patch Limited (Ltd.) Although it has been adapted from Fayol s original idea, subordination of individual interest of general interest, it is still present in Pumpkin Patch Ltd. In a company that is downsizing, and even when it is not, Esprit de Corp is a principle that plays a major factor in contemporary organizations today. Esprit de Corp is when a business creates, and maintains, employee harmony, unity and morale (Fells, 2000; Rodrigues, 2001). This allows for a happy working environment, and a happy employee means that they are more likely to achieve productivity and efficiency outcomes. Pumpkin Patch Ltd. has adapted this to fit their family environment that they feel the company has (Pumpkin Patch Limited, n.d.). The company believes in a balance between work, leisure and flexibility as well as providing an in house kindergarten for employees children (Pumpkin Patch Limited, n.d). This, although fairly minor, is a prime example of how contemporary businesses have adapted one of the founding principles of management and adapted it to fit their organization. As well as this Pumpkin Patch have organized their business into teams such as the information technology (IT) team and the design team who are an integral part of the organization in helping attain their goals and aims ( Brookes, et al., 2008). First of all , we tried to find the retention time of standard flammable liquids to be able to identify our unknown sample comparing with their retention times . The standards samples were : charcoal lighter , gasoline , kerosene , light fluid , shellac thinner , and paint thinner . The retention time is calculated by the formula : We injected 5 (1)L of paint thinner using the syringe needle into the gas chromatograph and we used the speed of 1cm/min to test which volume could be used . How might one determine the physical location of the origin of the fire , so that he might know where to look for evidence of accelerant ? By the burn/damage patterns found at the origin of the fire it is possible to have an idea of which accelerant was used . When volatile vapors burn above a flammable liquid accelerant they leave distinct patterns (15)unlike other combustible products usually found in a structure . Essay on Advertising and the Women s Movement Avoiding eye contact and cowering with her legs together, Aphrodite s naked pudica pose in the Venus de Medici ironically calls attention to the areas that she is trying hide, her breast and genitals (fig. 1). The futile attempts to hide her anatomy would be insignificant if not for the pudica s contrasting counterpart, the male contrapposto pose, shown in figure 2. Explained by Jeanne van Eeden, a professor in the Visual Arts Department at the University of Pretoria South Africa, advertising in capitalistic societies has a tremendous role in shaping how people view the world they live in (Eeden 3). She goes on to say, Advertising images...stem from sets of power relations and enlist cultural codes, stereotypes, myths and ideologies in their social production of meaning (Eeden 3). In other words, modern advertising reflects cultural class systems. Therefore, the poststructural feminist argument made by art historian Eunice Lipton that women did not form their own identities because they were not allowed to participate in art history, supports the idea that reoccurring images of women like the pudica pose created strict feminine standards based on male expectations (Lipton 10). Even though women were enjoying the same freedoms as men, by the 1970s the obsessive preoccupation with the female body that took over American media made it apparent that the impact of long standing male dominance had already corrupted the female psyche. In order to appreciate the dramatic challenge faced by the Women s Movement throughout the 1960s it s important to know the extent that the flagrant and unapologetic misogynist atmosphere had on U.S. advertising. Women were still portrayed with the passive nature of the Medici Venus; however a direct gaze ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Sinister Games on a Dark Mountain It was the darkest night of the year and the winter winds had finally arrived, biting into the skin of the traveler as he pushed onward through the forbidding forest. The villagers had warned him against venturing into the woods after sunset; they pleaded, saying that people had gone into the forest and had never been seen again. But he had a deadline to meet. The traveler was carrying a letter for the magistrate of the county beyond the mountains, a message warning of an impending attack from the south. The traveler had to get to the county before dawn or all would be lost, so he hurried deeper into the unfriendly wilderness. He paused, leaning against an ancient oak to catch his breath. Crack! The traveler s heart froze in his chest. He looked around wildly, searching for the source of this sound. He was about to call out to determine if the noise had been caused by a person, but the words died in his throat as he heard laughter. The laughter sounded like that of a child but there was something off about it. There was a cruel twinge to the laughter, almost as if it was mocking him. The laughter subsided and was replaced by the sound of something scratching against wood. The scratching noise sounded almost metallic, as if it were made by a knife or a sword. Dorothea Dix changed the lives of the mentally ill for all of time to come. Dorothea Dix founded numerous hospitals and treatment centers for the mentally ill. • 17. My Goals For A Social Worker I did not always want to be a Social Worker. I wanted to be a psychologist when I graduated high school. My dreams for my career got put on hold because I became a single mother at a young age. Raising my child on my own was the hardest and most important thing to me. It was not until the Department of Children and Families (DCF) came and removed my niece from my sister s home, when I realized what Social Work was. At that moment, I knew I wanted to help children the same way the social workers do. My educational career started when I was laid off from my job 5 years ago. Part of the severance package that I received made it possible for me to collect unemployment until I finished my degree. I earned my A.S. degree in Human Services, and am currently working on obtaining my B.S. in Social Work, all while being a stay at home mom to a teenager. I have made the Dean s List for the past few semesters and would like the opportunity to help others with all the services that are available for the clients that are in need. Social Work, as a profession, is a great fit for me. My interest in social work originates from having the desire to be able to help children that are abused and neglected to find better homes and safe environments. Helping foster children find loving families, so they can be loved and happy too. I enjoy helping and making a difference in the lives of others. Sanders succeeded and created a lively waterfront that brought the community together with public beaches and parks, a boathouse, community gardens, and campsites; this area is now home to many events and conservation efforts and is a tourist destination to visiting Vermont. Women s employment increased in America from under one percent in 1939 to over Forty six percent in 1943, and ninety percent of single women between the ages 18 59 were engaged in some form of factory work over the course of the war (Striking Women). Women were urged to take masculine positions in the workplace, in order to free up able bodied men for the line of duty. While women took many jobs over the course of the war the factory jobs were in the most demand. Factory workers were needed in order to build essential supplies for the war effort, such as bombs, heavy machinery, and auxiliary. The push for women showed a changing view of how capable women were sought after by companies. In 1943, more than 310,000 women worked in the U.S. aircraft industry, making up 65 percent of the industry s total workforce compared to just 1 percent in the pre war years (Striking Women). Women workers were recruited by the munitions industry, which was shown through the U.S. government s Rosie the Riveter propaganda campaign. Rosie the Riveter became one of the most successful recruitment tools in American history (Striking Wome ). Prior to World War II, propaganda targeting women had only been asking them to buy war bonds, plant victory gardens, and ration foods (Women, Gender, and World War). Rosie the Riveter was the first time a government had released a propaganda campaign where women had a job and were independent. This showed a newfound respect for women and their skills. The changes in societal interpretation of women allowed them to become more than homemakers, and put more focus on what women could do rather than what they looked like. For entertainment purposes, books, television shows, and movies are used to carry on the myths and stories of the Greek gods and Heroes. Apologia (from Greek ἀπολογία, speaking in defense ) is a formal defense of a position or action. (Oxford Dictionary,2016) In modern usage, apologia describes a formal defense and should not be confused with the sense of the word apology as the expression of regret. (Merriam Webster Dictionary.,2016) It is apparent that an apologia is more like speaker s self defense, which is pretty consistent with what Ware and Linkugel testified in their article They Spoke in Defense of Themselves: on the Generic Criticism of Apologia . • 30. The Causes Of The Japanese Internment Of WWII The Japanese internment of WWII was one of the biggest cases of racial prejudice America has ever committed. During a time when Italian and German Americans were a much bigger threat to our nation s security, we deliberately alienated Japanese citizens in our society. Not only did we restrict the freedoms of American born citizens for three years, but we have also caused long term, irreparable damage to the Japanese people, and their society. While internment may have decreased the odds of Japanese spies in our military and mob violence it is no excuse for the atrocity we put our own citizens through. American citizens, who are granted the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happyness, were robbed of these very rights our country was founded on. Internment camps were often in the middle of nowhere, and in very disatifactory condition for all residing in them. After internment many people, since they could not pay their mortgage loans, lost their homes and life savings causing widespread poverty. These and many other factors are why internment during WWII was unjust and motivated by racial prejudice, not national security. While Japanese internment may have isolated a small amount of Japanese spies, it was unjustified considering that the majority of people interned where innocent. • 35. The Importance Of Education And Lifelong Learning Education and Lifelong Learning. The ALA s fifth value centers on the library s need to provide opportunities to their communities for life long learning. Librarians are encouraged to promote the creation, maintenance, and enhancement of a learning society (Core Values of Librarianship, 2004) through their work. The concepts behind the OA Publishing movement work in tandem with the efforts of librarians to establish life long learning lifelines to patrons by providing free access to what was once expensive and/or inaccessible information. Access to academic data should not be limited to those with the good fortune to have resources available to them at will. All people with the desire and drive to access and utilize academic research should be afforded the opportunity to do so regardless of their financial situation or institutional affiliation. OA journals allow for self directed learning to take place outside the traditional constraint of an academic environment, thus it actively promotes continued education and learning opportunities for non traditional information communities. Intellectual Freedom. The ALA clearly supports the resistance of censorship in libraries. Librarians serve their communities as facilitators of information access. Actively expurgating content in an attempt to safeguard users from what has been arbitrarily deemed non compliant is in direct conflict with the objectives of information dissemination. Open access initiatives run parallel to the principles of intellectual freedom in that both advocate for increased access to information (Peet, 2017). Although similar, fighting for open access and fighting against censorship are not quite the same enterprise; however, they do share a common enemy: economic barriers to content (Peet, 2017). Although some have more than others, all institutions have certain budgetary restrictions placed on them. In order to acquire electronic resources for their patrons, libraries often purchase pre bundled electronic materials from vendors and publishers. These bundles are often inconsistently priced, and may include unnecessary applications and exclude valuable resources. As a result, the bundling business model can serve to ... This risk can be overcome by York Dungeons by carrying out a cost benefit analysis which is a technique that would allow the technique to be assessed on if it would be beneficial and economical for their business. A possible weakness of a report would be that it could include no real concepts and models as they focus more on the actual findings. It may be that the report is not relevant in relation to the marketing of a certain business. The golden rule when using secondary data is only use meaningful data. External information should be consulted in order of ease and speed of access (Hague, 2004). This supports that a business such as York Dungeons would need to be cautious when using secondary data, that it is adequate enough to use ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 37. Paul Fleischman s When This Cruel War Is Over Themes are universal and can be shared within multiple items, text, motivation, etc. In the historical novel, Bull Run, by Paul Fleischman, the Union song, When This Cruel War Is Over, by Charles Carroll Sawyer, and the Confederate Song, God Save The South, by Earnest Halpin and Charles W.A. Ellerbrock all share a common theme. War can inflict many different emotions when thinking about war or being directly involved in a war. It doesn t matter if the emotions or shared within a society or only kept to themselves, people still experience this. When war is present in one s mind, sadness can be one of the first emotion that can be felt. In Bull Run, two characters can easily show this to us. With this in mind, a not so shared emotion when it comes to war is pride. People often associate bad emotions like anger and hate with wars, but there can be some good emotions like happy or hope. Pride is can be positive and negative. Anyways, Bull Run illustrates the fact that war can be associated with war. In Flora Wheelworth s chapter, her daughter Susannah sent of her husband by yelling (Fleschman 10), Do try not to soil the coat! In this phrase, there was no signs of worry. Instead, she was proud that her husband was fighting in the war because she believed that her husband will win. Addition to this, in A.B. Tilbury s chapters, there was a chapter where A.B. Tilbury s regiment was slacking off and not taking anything seriously. Some soldiers in his regiment were chasing chickens! When someone has a lot of pride, they tend to underestimate their enemy and act over confident like A.B. s regiment right now. When there is too much pride, this emotion turns into a bad thing like this case, but when there is the right amount of pride, people can go ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Apple took advantage of The Great Recession (2007 2009) after many of its competitors had bankrupt or suffered from huge losses, causing an excessive of the amount of the unsold components that the manufacturers had produce. They could not find a market that can buy them, Apple sees that as an opportunity to buy those components, such as memory chips and LCDs, at lower prices and in most the time at cost, and use it as a competitive advantage in its manufacturing. Apple s management had predicted its margins to be shrieked for the next 5 years; as a cause of that recession that reshaped the market. The management took a fast and smart decision and they predict the market after they analyzed it and found out that they can make better future by using the low prices of the parts, rather than downsizing. They also provided app developers with the tools and distribution they need to bring their best ideas to tens of millions of its customers worldwide. • 40. Haircut Saga Case Study Delving into the Trinity Grammar haircut saga, during the crisis phase, there are several concerns which enraged the stakeholders, namely the School Council s decision to sack Brown, its passive attitude, and empty promises. While the trigger event was unstable, the suddenness and negativity impacted attribution. Using the three attribution dimension, the Trinity Grammar haircut saga dons a high personal control, low external control, and a locus in the actor which could strengthen the perception of intentional actions by the School Council (Coombs 2004, p. 268). To interpret the situation, crisis communicators should resort to the assessment of crisis type in order to correctly specify the emphasis of evaluation (Druckman, cited in Coombs 2004, p. 269). The opinion of the people, that have been asked this question seems to converge on the notion that he is not selling out, because he s doing the thing he planned from the start. Comparing Gilgamesh s Polpol Vuh And Other Myths Polpol Vuh and other Myths After reading the book Polpol Vuh, I was able to instantly point out many similarities and differences between two other myths that we have read throughout the class. The first myth that came to mind was Genesis. Genesis and Polpol Vuh both talk of creation of animals, trees, and mountains, as well as the creation of mankind, After doing research in the past, I knew that Genesis and Gilgamesh had similarities which then put Gilgamesh in the category with Polpol Vuh and Genesis. While reading these tales, I was also able to answer a series of questions based on my opinions. In this essay, I will explain my beliefs about what the people in these three tales seem to believe about how they came to be, what qualities they share, what is important to them, why their creator(s) make them, their reason for being where they are and lastly, what a good person and bad person would be like if these people wanted to be like their creator(s). We have to save our strength to go on. Keav would want us to go on; it is the only way we will survive (Ung, Pg. 100). Ung s father used their mutual loss to promote their survival. Although it is not blatantly expressed, Ung s father had to comprehend his own suffering in order to seek out strategies that would be beneficial to their survival as a family. Yet, even with his own suffering Ung s father found it within himself to encourage his family because he knew that without his encouragement they each would not have been able to survive that situation. Not only did Ung s father help them to recover after Keav s death, but he also helped them to each develop the emotional strength they would need for future reference.
