The Miyawaki methodology selects native tree species over exotic species for an area, as native trees have a greater capability of creating a self-sustaining ecosystem in that local area. It was developed by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki and focuses on planting native rather than foreign tree species in a particular location.
