The Rorschach test is a psychological test in which subjects'
perceptions of inkblots are recorded and then analyzed
using psychological interpretation, complex algorithms, or both. Some
psychologists use this test to examine a person's personality
characteristics and emotional functioning. It has been employed to
detect underlying thought disorder, especially in cases where patients
are reluctant to describe their thinking processes openly. The test is
named after its creator, Swiss psychologist Hermann Rorschach. In the
1960s, the Rorschach was the most widely used projective test.

Competencies are key
• Competencies are the common currency that link
goals, recommendations, and assessments
• Learning platforms that leverage competencies
are sometimes called “Personalized competency-
based learning platforms”

Resources Automation Gamification Competencies Quizzes Goals History Assessment
• Widgets are key to effective dashboards and goal pages
• Integration with ad-hoc reporting allows an unlimited number of widget combinations
Widgets
35
• Gamification is very important to reward participation in forums that support goals.
• Existing gamification frameworks can be customized for this purpose.
Gamification
• Automation makes it easy for rules to be added that take actions based on conditions.
• For example, award a badge when a competency is mastered or award points when you help someone on a
forum.
Automation
37
Recommendations
• Recommendations are typically generated using a combination of explicit rules and statistic
correlations.
• For example, an explicit rule might be “if the learners wants to master Photosynthesis, then
recommend them to join the site’s Biology forum”.
• A statistical correlation might be “85% of learners who watch this video liked it and it improved their
mastery of Photosynthesis by 30%”.
A.I. & Machine Learning
• Companies such as Amazon and Microsoft have made their A.I. and
machine learning technology available via APIs. For example, we are
incorporating the following into our own Learning Platform:
• AMAZON PERSONALIZE - based on an activity stream from your
application, make personalized recommendations from an inventory of
available items.
• AMAZON FORECAST - make future predictions based on historical data.
• AMAZON TRANSCRIBE - automatic text from speech/videos.
• AMAZON LEX - add Alexa capabilities to your application.
Summary
• Personalized Learning Platforms with all the power of an
LMS are coming in 2020.
• AWS A.I. and Machine Learning make this possible
without having to hire a team of PhDs.
