The Kyrgyz Republic is one of the largest recipients of international remittances in the world; from a Balance of Payments measure of remittances, it ranked tenth in the world in 2008 in the ratio of remittances to GDP, a rapid increase from 30th place in 2004.Remittances can be used to maintain the household's standard of living by providing income to families with unemployed and underemployed adult members. Remittances can also be used to promote investment not only in businesses and communities but also in people. In this paper, we examine the role that remittances have played in the Kyrgyz Republic in promoting investments in children. Based on the capabilities approach to well-being initiated by Sen (2010), we look at the impact of remittances and domestic transfer payments primarily from internal migration on children's education and health. Our outcomes include enrollment in school and preschool, expenditures, stunting and wasting of preschool children, and health habits of older children. We use uniqu panel data from the Kyrgyz Republic for 2005-2008 and thus control for some of the biases inherent in cross-sectional studies of remittances and family outcomes. We find that overall remittances and domestic transfers have not promoted investments in the human capital of children. Specifically, preschool enrollments were higher in the urban north but secondary school enrollments were lower in other regions in remittance receiving households; expenditures were also negatively affected in the south and the mountain areas. These negative enrollment results were larger for girls than for boys. We also found evidence of stunting and wasting among young children and worse health habits among boys in remittance or transfer receiving households. In the long run, Kyrgyzstan needs human capital development for growth; our results suggest that remittances are not providing the boost needed in human capital to promote development in the future.

ASSESSMENT OF MIGRATION ATTRACTIVENESS OF RUSSIAN FEDERATION FEDERAL DISTRICTS
Migration is playing increasingly more prominent role in ensuring a well-balanced spatial development of the Russian economy in the context of growing hieving a well-balanced development from a migration perspective is supposed to address some issues of assessing the migration attractiveness of the Russian Federation territories, which will make it possible to shape a sound migration policy aimed at overcoming territorial disparities. The study provides the assessment of the migration attractiveness of RF federal districts, which were chosen as research objects because of the need for comprehensive coverage of the Russian Federation megaspace. classification of the federal districts have been designed according to the degree of migration attractiveness, with account of its upward or downward trend in the period under review; in addition, a cartographic profile of the Russian migration been constructed. This analysis is based on absolute and relative parameters of migration processes (indicators of arrival and departure of population, turnover, migration balance, and their rates) drawing on the data of the official 016. Rate of migration attractiveness was employed as one of the analytical tools and it was possible to reveal its interrelation at regional level with a number of indicators describing economic, social, demographic and ecological lopment. It has been found that the interrelation of migration attractiveness is most closely traced to economic and social factors.

Civil Society and Corruption
This document summarizes research on Armenian public perceptions of NGOs and corruption. The research questions examined how NGOs are perceived in relation to corruption, and whether certain groups are more willing to counter corruption. The results found that NGOs have a "shallow positive" image and are not well known. Those willing to counter corruption tended to be urban residents of Yerevan and Tavush with higher education and incomes in the 120,000-240,000 AMD range monthly. Anti-corruption activists constituted around 1% of respondents.
Household Corruption Survey 2009

School-to-Work Transitions after Two Decades of Post-Communist Transition
This document summarizes research from surveys conducted in 2007 on young people aged 31-37 in Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Georgia. It finds that while proportions in different career paths may have changed over time and between countries/regions, the core career paths themselves have remained remarkably consistent. The main career paths identified are: 1) Fully employed with a "western lifestyle" salary, 2) Regular private/public employment, 3) Business ownership, 4) Under-employment, and 5) Unemployment. The paper argues these career structures formed in the early transition period continue to shape opportunities.

This document summarizes the methodology used in surveys conducted by the Caucasus Research Resource Centers (CRRC) in Armenia from 2004-2007. The surveys used multistage cluster sampling with preliminary stratification to select samples that were representative of Armenia's population. Interviewers conducted surveys with over 1,000 individuals to collect data on employment, education, migration patterns and other social indicators. Migration is the process of involvement of people to move from the area of deficit in the case of opportunities, to the area of surplus in order to achieve the livelihood. The present study is carried out in Qila Ka Nagla, Aligarh, India, where the problem of migration is usually related to the poverty and unemployment. Because, the country like India is underdeveloped whose economy is primarily based on agriculture to support the 58.5 percent people and share the 17.14 percent in the India’s GDP and 68.31 percent people of the country are still rural resident. Thus, migration is the only way for them to survival. Therefore, the intra state migration study has carried out with the help of primary survey conducted through questionnaire to focused on the socio economic condition of migrants including pattern of migration, educational status, health condition, economic status and family size of the migrants etc. The inferences draw on the basis of data collected through the primary survey to show that, the economic well being of the migrants is very versed and the number of migrants has significantly increased with the passage of time caused by the unemployment and poverty, emerged by the unequal distribution of land among the migrants, illiteracy and lack of amenities and facilities. Recent research on the impact of labor migration on the socioeconomic development of developing
countries has provided opportunity to try and resolve some of the long-standing polemics that have pervaded the
literature on migration and development. This article focuses on findings concerning the labor, remittance, and
social impacts of emigration on countries that have participated in labor emigration. While a great deal more
research needs to be done, recent findings confirm that in some situations the sort-term impacts of labor migration
on sending countries have been considerable. In the study area (Titiheriya, Samserganja and Rajhena VDCs of
Banke district, Western Nepal total 6272 young adults left “home” to work as migrants in the Gulf and Middle
Eastern countries or in India. Random sample method has been used and selected 240 households (migrants) for
the data collection. Better jobs with handsome earnings motivates them to migrate to Arabian and Indian cities
to secure livelihoods. But at the same time migrants are not free of risks. The findings of this study have shown
largely a positive outlook of migration in terms of livelihood security. This reflects the wider themes with respect
to socio-economic determinants of access and opportunity. Regardless of whether migration is as accumulative
process or coping strongly, most migrants receive little support and live in very difficult conditions at their
destinations. Thus, a rights-based approach to guarantee the overall security of migrants is needed.

This presentation discusses subnational population projections for the West Midlands region of England produced by the Office for National Statistics (ONS). The projections estimate population changes over 25 years based on past trends in fertility, mortality, and migration rates. The projections indicate that the West Midlands population will grow more slowly than most other English regions and will experience significant aging, with the proportion of residents aged 65 and older projected to rise notably by 2027.

Skills and migration: Findings from georgia and armenia
The survey found that around 36% of people aged 18-50 in Armenia and 31% in Georgia intend to migrate, but the likelihood decreases to around 12% when accounting for actual ability to migrate. Reasons for migrating were largely economic like lack of jobs and better standards of living abroad, while family reasons were more common for returning. Many migrants worked in unskilled jobs regardless of education level, and skills mismatch was higher for women and those with more education. Awareness of return assistance programs was very limited. The findings suggest expanding pre-departure training, improving skills matching abroad, validating skills gained to reduce "brain waste", and increasing support for returning migrants and entrepreneurship to benefit home countries.

Migration is the process of involvement of people to move from the area of deficit in the case of opportunities, to the area of surplus in order to achieve the livelihood. The present study is carried out in Qila Ka Nagla, Aligarh, India, where the problem of migration is usually related to the poverty and unemployment. Because, the country like India is underdeveloped whose economy is primarily based on agriculture to support the 58.5 percent people and share the 17.14 percent in the India’s GDP and 68.31 percent people of the country are still rural resident. Thus, migration is the only way for them to survival. Therefore, the intra state migration study has carried out with the help of primary survey conducted through questionnaire to focused on the socio economic condition of migrants including pattern of migration, educational status, health condition, economic status and family size of the migrants etc. The inferences draw on the basis of data collected through the primary survey to show that, the economic well being of the migrants is very versed and the number of migrants has significantly increased with the passage of time caused by the unemployment and poverty, emerged by the unequal distribution of land among the migrants, illiteracy and lack of amenities and facilities. Recent research on the impact of labor migration on the socioeconomic development of developing
countries has provided opportunity to try and resolve some of the long-standing polemics that have pervaded the
literature on migration and development. This article focuses on findings concerning the labor, remittance, and
social impacts of emigration on countries that have participated in labor emigration. While a great deal more
research needs to be done, recent findings confirm that in some situations the sort-term impacts of labor migration
on sending countries have been considerable. In the study area (Titiheriya, Samserganja and Rajhena VDCs of
Banke district, Western Nepal total 6272 young adults left “home” to work as migrants in the Gulf and Middle
Eastern countries or in India. Random sample method has been used and selected 240 households (migrants) for
the data collection. Better jobs with handsome earnings motivates them to migrate to Arabian and Indian cities
to secure livelihoods. But at the same time migrants are not free of risks. The findings of this study have shown
largely a positive outlook of migration in terms of livelihood security. This reflects the wider themes with respect
to socio-economic determinants of access and opportunity. Regardless of whether migration is as accumulative
process or coping strongly, most migrants receive little support and live in very difficult conditions at their
destinations. Thus, a rights-based approach to guarantee the overall security of migrants is needed.

The survey found that around 36% of people aged 18-50 in Armenia and 31% in Georgia intend to migrate, but the likelihood decreases to around 12% when accounting for actual ability to migrate. Reasons for migrating were largely economic like lack of jobs and better standards of living abroad, while family reasons were more common for returning. Many migrants worked in unskilled jobs regardless of education level, and skills mismatch was higher for women and those with more education. Awareness of return assistance programs was very limited. The findings suggest expanding pre-departure training, improving skills matching abroad, validating skills gained to reduce "brain waste", and increasing support for returning migrants and entrepreneurship to benefit home countries.

A Survey On Floating Population Migration Process Under The New Urbanization
This survey analyzed the migration patterns of 1,827 floating populations in Guangzhou and Liannan, China. In Guangzhou: 1) Social integration is low with family/social networks being simple and based mainly on other migrants. 2) Floating populations continually migrate to larger cities, affected mainly by economic factors. In Liannan: 1) Hollow villages with serious aging as young people leave. 2) Over 50% of respondents intend to return to hometowns, especially the elderly. 3) Rural benefits affect migration intentions, with more development meaning lower intentions to leave. Overall it examines factors influencing migration choices and social integration of floating populations.

This study compared the social status of emigrant and non-emigrant families in village Chak Kamala, Gujrat, Pakistan. 175 households were surveyed using questionnaires. 85 households with emigrants and 90 without emigrants were selected randomly. Statistical tests were used to analyze differences in variables like income, education levels, family size, and possessions. The study found that families with emigrants abroad generally had higher social status than those without emigrants, as measured by these variables. Remittances from emigrants were concluded to improve living standards and social status for recipient families.

In a tight labour market, job-seekers gain bargaining power and leverage it into greater job quality—at least, that’s the conventional wisdom.
Michael, LMIC Economist, presented findings that reveal a weakened relationship between labour market tightness and job quality indicators following the pandemic. Labour market tightness coincided with growth in real wages for only a portion of workers: those in low-wage jobs requiring little education. Several factors—including labour market composition, worker and employer behaviour, and labour market practices—have contributed to the absence of worker benefits.
