- #24 Over the last several years, the Core CAL Suite has included access licenses to the four servers you see listed here – specifically Exchange Server, Sharepoint Server, System Center Configuration Manager, and Windows Server. With industry trends and the evolving core technology needs of modern day users…. …As of August 1st of this year, Microsoft has now included access to two additional capabilities in the Core CAL. The first is to Lync Server with Instant Messaging and Presence – as well as pc-to-pc voice and video capability. Second is Forefront Endpoint Protection as an anti-virus and anti-malware protection tool. These access licenses were previously offered individually or as part of the Enterprise CAL Suite offering, which is a super-set of what is included in Core CAL. So, for customers who have already licensed the Enterprise CAL Suite, there is no impact with this change, as these components still remain as part of the overall suite.
- #25 Let’s now have a look at the benefits to Core CAL customers…. First, Instant messaging and presence are more and more being considered core capabilities that today’s information workers are demanding - and that greatly benefit communications and collaboration within organizations. Lync Server is tightly integrated into both Exchange and Sharepoint, in that it “lights up” those tools with integrated presence and IM capability. So, it makes a lot of sense to bring this into the Core CAL offering. And with Forefront Endpoint Protection, we provide important anti-virus protection as well as device management from a single console within System Center. So again, it makes a lot of sense to bring that into Core CAL as part of an integrated offering. The great news for our existing Core CAL customers with active Software Assurance as of August 1, 2011 is that you now have access to these new capabilities without any incremental cost under your current Agreement. And for those Core CAL customers who wish to transition at some point to Office 365 and/or Windows Intune, these changes make it easier to both make this transition and to also flexibly manage hybrid environments where some users or devices are in the cloud and some remain on-premise.

For example, many employees benefit from being able to access information, such as email, from multiple locations and on multiple devices – such as mobile phones. For IT Infrastructure, cloud services enable applications to be hosted on-premises or off premise in the cloud. As cloud services have matured rapidly, users can expect highly functional and available services – even on a world-wide basis. Microsoft recognizes that one size does not fit all, and that every customer is unique & will evaluate and deploy the right blend and timing for cloud services with their existing IT. Our approach is to offer licensing that embraces the flexibility needed to mix and match cloud with on-premises over time and by workload and user type. Microsoft also delivers a comprehensive set of cloud services and enterprise applications for user productivity, customer management, communication services and custom business applications with the reliability, security, and global reach you should expect for your business. Microsoft Cloud services include Office 365, Windows Intune, Windows Azure, and Dynamics CRM Online.
- #27 Now with the Enterprise Agreement, customers will enjoy greater flexibility for cloud and on-premises licensing procurement under a single agreement. Customers can sign a single company-wide agreement for cloud services, on-premises software, software enrollments and additional products and realize price advantages based on their organization size. Designed for customers with a minimum of 250 qualified users or devices, the EA allows the flexibility to match and adjust workloads to different types of users; utilize a grace period when transitioning to cloud services and enable broader per-user licensing options. For smaller organizations interested in online subscription services, Microsoft provides the Microsoft Online Subscription Program (MOSP). Through this program, organizations are offered standard, non-negotiable pricing and transact their subscription online versus directly through Microsoft Direct Sales Channel or through Partners. The subscription is suitable for companies with 5 or more users and the term length varies depending on service chosen.
- #30 Programs for Public Sector and Other Organizations For public sector organizations with fewer than 250 PCs, Microsoft offers customized versions of the Open Programs: Open License, Open Value, and Open Value Subscription. The Open License for Academic and Open License for Government programs are similar to the commercial Open License program, but with different pricing and partner channels. In some regions, government organizations can also participate in the Open Value for Government and Open Value Subscription for Government programs. In some regions, charitable organizations can participate in the Open License for Charities program. Check with your Microsoft reseller for availability. Government and education organizations with more than 250 PCs can participate in the Select Plus program. Government organizations can also participate in the Enterprise Agreement program. For education institutions that prefer to license their software on an annual subscription basis, Microsoft offers two unique programs: Microsoft Campus Agreement for higher education and Microsoft School Agreement for primary and secondary education institutions.
