In India the Incidence of leukemia is 3 to 4 per 100000.
Common features of leukemia are:
 Unregulated proliferation or accumulation of WBC’s
in the bone marrow.
 Proliferation can also occur in the liver & spleen.
 Invasion of other organs such as the meninges, lymph
nodes , gums & skin.
ClassificationofLeukemia :
1) Acute Lymphoid Leukemia (ALL): Symptoms
are abrupt often occurring within weeks &
lymphoblast cells are immature.
2) Chronic Lymphoid Leukemia (CLL): onset of
symptoms is slow may take several years for
trajectory.
3) Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML):onset of
symptoms is rapid & here hematopoietic stem
cells are defective that differentiates into all
myeloid cells.
4) Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML): onset of
symptoms is slow .Hematopoietic stem cells are
defected & mutated.

 Chemotherapy/Antineoplastic Agents: There are
certain chemotherapy drugs and line of treatment are
available for leukemic pts.

 Vincristine

 Other line of treatment for patients with leukemia is
Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation(HSCT):
HSCT is another type therapy used for patients in

totally eliminate leukemic cells from the bodyusing
combination of chemotherapy with or without total
bodyirradiation.
 For HSCT donormust be available & types of donar
are:
