Today in this workshop you will...
• Refresh your understanding of Multiple Intelligence
 Theory

• Learn practical applications and strategies for integrating
 multiple intelligences into your teaching

• Listen, Think, Talk, Write, Move, Sing, See, Reason, and
 Determine Value
Multiple Intelligence Theory

• Originated theory by Howard Gardner of Harvard
 University

• Everyone holds multiple ways that they intake and output
information with some that are stronger than others.

• Gardner has defined 9 forms of Intelligence
• These are not talents or aptitudes, they are differing
 areas of intelligence
Stop and Promenade

Walk round the room with a partner and see if you can name
all 9 intelligences as defined by Gardner
The 9 Theories

• Linguistic
• Logical-Mathematical
• Spatial
• Bodily-Kinesthetic
• Musical
• Interpersonal
• Intrapersonal
• Naturalist
• (Existential) the 9th or 8.5th intelligence
What are you?

 • Take the time to complete this MI Inventory for Adults
You may work sitting, standing, moving, inside the room or
outside the room.

 • Tabulate your own scores to determine your primary
   sources of intelligence.
 • Self-group yourselves based on the results of your
  inventory
   o Does this fit you?
   o If so, how?
Results=Classroom Impact

• TPS (think, pair, share)
o Think about your results and their impact on your
    teaching practice.
o Share your thoughts with a partner
o Share out to the group
Our Kids

• To inventory or not to inventory?
• Observe vs. Test?
• They should learn THIS way....
Applying MI theory to practice

• You don't have to target all 8 intelligences all at once
• You can look beyond the traditional pedagogy of your
  subject matter
• You can integrate subjects
• We can reach MORE Kids!
Sample Ideas
Target Unit: China

Math
•read problems using facts about China (linguistic)
•learn about the mathematical properties of traditional Chinese
  instruments (musical)

Science
 • form a discussion group about the science of bodies of water in China
   (interpersonal)
 • study the principles of climate found in China (naturalist/intrapersonal)

Social Studies
•build a replica of the Great Wall (bodily-kinesthetic/spatial)
 •create a timeline of the Dynasties (logical-mathematical
Apply it to YOUR practice

• Work with a small group of mixed intelligence strength
• Complete a sketch up of ways to implement MI strategies
  into a curriculum area
• Use a medium that works for you-Hard Copy, Crayon, Big
 Paper, Stickies, Video, Computer.
Wrap UP
• The use of MI theory and strategies in teaching practice
helps reach a wide range of learners

• It helps us break out of the rut of practice monotony
• It provides excellent avenues for curriculum integration
