Social media use has been linked to both positive and negative mental health outcomes. Excessive social media use has been associated with increased rates of depression, anxiety, loneliness, and other mental health issues among youth and young adults. Several studies analyzed found that high daily use of digital technologies like smartphones and social media can exacerbate existing mental health conditions like attention deficits and conduct disorders in at-risk adolescents. However, social media also plays a role in perpetuating stigma around mental health issues. More research is still needed to fully understand the complex relationship between social media use and mental well-being.
