How is Internet Censorship used in China and the rest of the World?
I. INTORUCTION
A. BACKGROUND INFORMATION
B. contacts:dorineadalyn@gmail.com
C.
Internet censorship is a deliberate control of information by limiting public viewership.
This is often done by the government institutions that aim to control contents that pertain to
copyright, sensitive information, or harmful to the public, control internet-related crime, or
monitor the internet users. There is an inherent attempt by the Chinese government to control the
flow of information. It affects both viewership and publishing of online materials, and as a result,
the press does not have the freedom to express themselves freely. The Chinese internet
censorship is more compressive and more advanced. As provided by the government regulations,
most of the companies providing internet services are self-censored to align themselves with the
law.
D. Thesis
This essay aims at exploring how internet censorship is used in China and around the
World.

II. BODY
A).Internet censorship is used to clean up or minimize radical critique of the policies and
authorities. There have been many political protests that have emerged in the digital agora,
especially among young people. The protest is witnessed in many countries like Mexico, China,
Russia, United States, etc. Most of these governments feel that the information shared on the
Internet has potential threats to the government's functions. The Chines government, for instance,
has issued a series of laws to deal with the consequences of public political expression, e-
activism, and public mobilization. This is an attempt to stabilize the government after a period of
decentralization caused by internet governance. In this regard, the Chinese government
implemented Internet Information System Security Protection Policy. According to the Chinese
government, the use of the Internet has empowered the Chinese, especially young adults, to
express themselves and politically protest the government's dictates. Based on this assumption,
the government in China argues that there is a structural impact on youths’ knowledge to use the
Internet for mobilization in forum (Lu &Zhao 1). The structural threats from perceived internet
users in China can help understand why the government has censored the Internet's use. In
China, internet threat carries the possibility of intended and perceived threats. This explains why
the government censors internet use in China. In this regard, self-censorship is the major reasons
why internet censorship is encouraged in China to minimize the opportunities to participate in
public affairs; citizens often delete their sensitive information or sensitive political post, thus
killing the spread of rumors or kill the spread of the information and fostering a good
relationship between the authorities and citizens. The government censors the Internet to clean
up or minimize radical critique of the policies and authorities from extending their sensitive
subjects' perspectives.

B).Internet censorship is used to prevent cyber security by controlling flow of
information. The use of online by the public to express their political thoughts, especially by
young adults, has a major impact in fueling political awareness, behavior, and orientation. The
degree of participation has improved despite a change in terms of consumption and political
participation.. Following the pervasive threats, the State Council is responsible for shaping
concrete measures to curtail information spread. The measure is intended to prevent the effect of
cybersecurity. The laws and regulations are implemented in China other countries like the United
States to check on cybersecurity. Strict laws are enforced, and whoever breaks them risks jail
terms. On minor occasions, the content is deleted, and the account is blocked. Nations such as
Singapore effectively began to harness the flow of information for national development and
improvement. The government viewed internet content as a thing that is related to nascent
information. Today Singapore sensors on two levels, for commercial enterprises and home,
differentiate between the adults and the young. Contrary to other nations, internet censorship in
Singapore originated from most of the population to regulate communication on the Internet. The
public assumes that the increased internet access in the nations will lead to encroachment of
unregulated content from the West. In this regard, the Singaporean government focused on
pornography which was majorly perceived to come from the West (Ramesh 1).
C). Internet censorship is used to control foreign companies in China. Internet censorship
in China has negatively impacted commerce as it is used by the government to create a very
hostile environment for foreign companies. However, this has affected the livelihood of some
citizens and human rights privileges (Liu 1). The commercial sector, especially for foreigners, is
forced to give up their vast market or work under acquiescing censorship regime. For instance,
the recent trade wars between China and Google highlight some of the pervasive censorship
Surname 4
measures that the Chinese government uses to control the market and curtail foreign influence in
their market. Sadly, the Chines counterpart has remained free of the strict censorship measures
laid on the market. The inability to continue operations in China by foreign companies is an
indication that the internet censorship in China’s tool to burden business climate for foreigners is
intentionally done to discourage foreign investments (Cannici 3). Despite being the world’s most
populated internet users, the regime, through its censorship regulations, has created an
environment where foreigners do not survive. In response, the Chinese government argues that
free Internet without censorship is a loophole for citizens to expose personal information, can
enable citizens to expose corruption among officials, organize a protest and oppose government
policies. Previously, when there was no censorship, corrupt government officials were fired,
fined, or jailed because they exposed them on the Internet. The information controlling regime in
China manipulates internet information and suppresses public dissent, especially those that are
deemed to be targeting the government authorities. In this way, the China government hoped to
prevent widespread organized protest and reform movement.
D). The authorities censor through blocking content and monitor every activity done on
the Internet using software. Most China’s internet censorship is put on the state in a paternal
position. Compared with the West on censorship, the Chines perspective on censorship is meant
to protect the character of freedom restriction and protect mechanism for the public. This is a
relatively neutral position of censorship according to public perception despite China having a
more strict measure of information flow. Same as other parts of the world, the government
bodies are responsible for the censorship issues. Most nations use internet bubbles to censor
information. In China, censorship is done through content control of online news, surveillance of
internet users, search engines as crucial tools of censoring content, control of surfing habits,
Surname 5
delete of entire websites, and selective filtering practices like TCO/IP keyword filtering (Faust
4). Other methods include DNS spoofing, IP addresses, URL filtration, resettling connections,
and packet inspections. The use of internet censorship in china is very comprehensive and
complicated compared to other nations in the world. The authorities have blocked content and
monitor every activity done on the Internet. Major internet platforms, as required by the
government, establish elaborate self-censorship mechanisms. A report showed that in 2019, there
were more than sixty restrictions on the Chinese internet websites, which were created by the
government and enforced by the provincial branches. For companies, artificial intelligence
algorithms are used to automatically remove content that can jeopardize their relationship with
government regulations.
III. CONCLUSTIONS
China and other states have managed to censor information flowing on the Internet. The
main reason is to control sensitive information or content that interferes with the nations'
government policies and norms. In China, any political dissent or criticism of the authority is
punished because that is considered a breakage of the law. Just like China, other nations have
developed filters that monitor information and internet traffic within their borders. These
restrictive measures have been considered as jeopardizing human rights and curtailing foreign
trade.

  • 1. Surname 1 Student’s Name Professor’s Name Subject Date How is Internet Censorship used in China and the rest of the World? I. INTORUCTION A. BACKGROUND INFORMATION B. contacts:dorineadalyn@gmail.com C. Internet censorship is a deliberate control of information by limiting public viewership. This is often done by the government institutions that aim to control contents that pertain to copyright, sensitive information, or harmful to the public, control internet-related crime, or monitor the internet users. There is an inherent attempt by the Chinese government to control the flow of information. It affects both viewership and publishing of online materials, and as a result, the press does not have the freedom to express themselves freely. The Chinese internet censorship is more compressive and more advanced. As provided by the government regulations, most of the companies providing internet services are self-censored to align themselves with the law. D. Thesis This essay aims at exploring how internet censorship is used in China and around the World.
  • 2. Surname 2 II. BODY A).Internet censorship is used to clean up or minimize radical critique of the policies and authorities. There have been many political protests that have emerged in the digital agora, especially among young people. The protest is witnessed in many countries like Mexico, China, Russia, United States, etc. Most of these governments feel that the information shared on the Internet has potential threats to the government's functions. The Chines government, for instance, has issued a series of laws to deal with the consequences of public political expression, e- activism, and public mobilization. This is an attempt to stabilize the government after a period of decentralization caused by internet governance. In this regard, the Chinese government implemented Internet Information System Security Protection Policy. According to the Chinese government, the use of the Internet has empowered the Chinese, especially young adults, to express themselves and politically protest the government's dictates. Based on this assumption, the government in China argues that there is a structural impact on youths’ knowledge to use the Internet for mobilization in forum (Lu &Zhao 1). The structural threats from perceived internet users in China can help understand why the government has censored the Internet's use. In China, internet threat carries the possibility of intended and perceived threats. This explains why the government censors internet use in China. In this regard, self-censorship is the major reasons why internet censorship is encouraged in China to minimize the opportunities to participate in public affairs; citizens often delete their sensitive information or sensitive political post, thus killing the spread of rumors or kill the spread of the information and fostering a good relationship between the authorities and citizens. The government censors the Internet to clean up or minimize radical critique of the policies and authorities from extending their sensitive subjects' perspectives.
  • 3. Surname 3 B).Internet censorship is used to prevent cyber security by controlling flow of information. The use of online by the public to express their political thoughts, especially by young adults, has a major impact in fueling political awareness, behavior, and orientation. The degree of participation has improved despite a change in terms of consumption and political participation.. Following the pervasive threats, the State Council is responsible for shaping concrete measures to curtail information spread. The measure is intended to prevent the effect of cybersecurity. The laws and regulations are implemented in China other countries like the United States to check on cybersecurity. Strict laws are enforced, and whoever breaks them risks jail terms. On minor occasions, the content is deleted, and the account is blocked. Nations such as Singapore effectively began to harness the flow of information for national development and improvement. The government viewed internet content as a thing that is related to nascent information. Today Singapore sensors on two levels, for commercial enterprises and home, differentiate between the adults and the young. Contrary to other nations, internet censorship in Singapore originated from most of the population to regulate communication on the Internet. The public assumes that the increased internet access in the nations will lead to encroachment of unregulated content from the West. In this regard, the Singaporean government focused on pornography which was majorly perceived to come from the West (Ramesh 1). C). Internet censorship is used to control foreign companies in China. Internet censorship in China has negatively impacted commerce as it is used by the government to create a very hostile environment for foreign companies. However, this has affected the livelihood of some citizens and human rights privileges (Liu 1). The commercial sector, especially for foreigners, is forced to give up their vast market or work under acquiescing censorship regime. For instance, the recent trade wars between China and Google highlight some of the pervasive censorship
  • 4. Surname 4 measures that the Chinese government uses to control the market and curtail foreign influence in their market. Sadly, the Chines counterpart has remained free of the strict censorship measures laid on the market. The inability to continue operations in China by foreign companies is an indication that the internet censorship in China’s tool to burden business climate for foreigners is intentionally done to discourage foreign investments (Cannici 3). Despite being the world’s most populated internet users, the regime, through its censorship regulations, has created an environment where foreigners do not survive. In response, the Chinese government argues that free Internet without censorship is a loophole for citizens to expose personal information, can enable citizens to expose corruption among officials, organize a protest and oppose government policies. Previously, when there was no censorship, corrupt government officials were fired, fined, or jailed because they exposed them on the Internet. The information controlling regime in China manipulates internet information and suppresses public dissent, especially those that are deemed to be targeting the government authorities. In this way, the China government hoped to prevent widespread organized protest and reform movement. D). The authorities censor through blocking content and monitor every activity done on the Internet using software. Most China’s internet censorship is put on the state in a paternal position. Compared with the West on censorship, the Chines perspective on censorship is meant to protect the character of freedom restriction and protect mechanism for the public. This is a relatively neutral position of censorship according to public perception despite China having a more strict measure of information flow. Same as other parts of the world, the government bodies are responsible for the censorship issues. Most nations use internet bubbles to censor information. In China, censorship is done through content control of online news, surveillance of internet users, search engines as crucial tools of censoring content, control of surfing habits,
  • 5. Surname 5 delete of entire websites, and selective filtering practices like TCO/IP keyword filtering (Faust 4). Other methods include DNS spoofing, IP addresses, URL filtration, resettling connections, and packet inspections. The use of internet censorship in china is very comprehensive and complicated compared to other nations in the world. The authorities have blocked content and monitor every activity done on the Internet. Major internet platforms, as required by the government, establish elaborate self-censorship mechanisms. A report showed that in 2019, there were more than sixty restrictions on the Chinese internet websites, which were created by the government and enforced by the provincial branches. For companies, artificial intelligence algorithms are used to automatically remove content that can jeopardize their relationship with government regulations. III. CONCLUSTIONS China and other states have managed to censor information flowing on the Internet. The main reason is to control sensitive information or content that interferes with the nations' government policies and norms. In China, any political dissent or criticism of the authority is punished because that is considered a breakage of the law. Just like China, other nations have developed filters that monitor information and internet traffic within their borders. These restrictive measures have been considered as jeopardizing human rights and curtailing foreign trade.
