Media is always pointed at having negative effects on mental health. Media, including social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, among others, have rapidly developed. Facebook is considered to be the largest social networking site used globally. In the past decade, media has caused various changes, especially in the way individuals interact as well as communicate. However, it is not clear whether these changes may have an impact on the usual human characters. Previous research carried out shows that prolonged use of media may be associated with signs of depression. In addition, studies have also shown that the effects are associated with low self-esteem, and this mainly affects adolescents and children.
However, other studies differ and have shown that media does not affect negatively and no mental problems associated with the use of media. Thus, the relationship between media and mental health is controversial, and many questions have remained unanswered. Moreover, the research on this topic has experienced a lot of challenges. This paper focuses on findings regarding the association between the media and mental health issues such as internet addiction, depression signs and symptoms and low self-esteem.
Media and Signs and symptoms of depression
Various reasons suggest that media users are at risk of getting depressed. This is because there are many factors that may cause a depressed individual to increase their use or begin to use a social networking site. Among the reasons why media is associated with depressive symptoms is that it may lead to negative changes in the personality characteristics of other users. Generally, internet use affects the social relationship to the extent of affecting participation in community life.
According to a study done by Kraut et al ., 1998 shows that increased time online is associated with reduced communication with other members of the family. This may result in an increased feeling of loneliness as well as depression. Further research suggests that computer use may have various negative effects, especially on the social development of children.
This research focused on investigating possible impacts of internet browsing and other online uses such as email checking on mental health.
As a result of the development of social networks, for example, Facebook in 2004, time spent online has greatly increased. On the other hand, time on interpersonal interaction has reduced, including among the family members. Introduction
When discussing the influence of social media on mental health, first, it is pivotal to understand what social media is and the different dimensions of mental health. On the one hand, social media refers to how people can share information on various issues. Information can be shared in video, image, and audio, among other formats. The information shared via these platforms can benefit the users or have damaging consequences, such as mental issues and radicalization. Some popular social media platforms are Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and Flickr. According to the Pew Research Center, over 84% of Americans will use social media in 2022, compared to 5% in 2002 (
Pew Research Center, 2022). The most used platforms in the United States are Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and Pinterest.
Mental health is pivotal because it influences the decisions people make ad their participation in daily routines. Issues like trauma, abuse, child neglect, unemployment, and divorce can lead to mental health problems affecting individual functioning. Some dominant mental health issues include depression, sleeping disorders, stress, aggression, and self-denial. On the other hand, mental health incorporates three dimensions: physiological, social, and emotional well-being.
It has been argued that social media can affect users’ mental health negatively or positively. One of the highly cited benefits of social media is that the platforms offer users a high sense of privacy. With privacy guaranteed, individuals can openly discuss their woeful experiences without having too woeful experiences. In other words, social media provides a better platform for self-expression, which is not guaranteed through physical encounters. Social media also has the potential to help individuals network with others and build healthy relationships, which is crucial in reducing exposure to mental wellness. Besides connecting with individuals, social media can enable people to connect with other agencies created to deal with mental issues (Robinson & Smith, 2022). On the downside, one of the repercussions of social media on mental health is that it increases the state of loneliness because users may find themselves spending more time on social media applications than interacting with other people. Social media can also lead to body image issues, depression, stress, and cyberbullying (Robinson & Smith, 2022). This research aims to delve deeper into the effects of mental health by focusing on literature and additional research.

These "down" symptoms alone may indicate a unipolar depressive disorder like dysthymia or severe depression if they are present. A person may be diagnosed with bipolar illness if they experience alternating spells of depression and euphoria. Adolescents and young adults increasingly have difficulties with their mental health (Poppen et al., 2016). An individual's mental health is something only they can fully comprehend, making it difficult for friends and loved ones to spot warning signs in time to intervene. Juvenile and young adult suicide is a major problem in today's world. A lack of life experiences, self-confidence, and faith in one's own skills contribute to the suicides of many young individuals.
ii) Significance of the practice problem/gap at the project site
Mental illness has been a problem that is affected the population for a long period and worryingly young people and adolescents are experiencing many effects that lead to some committing suicide. The stress that today's youth encounter nowadays is the most significant of all these issues, especially the pressure they receive based on their academic expectations and poor communication about their troubles to their parents. There is also a gap in the schools in terms of students receiving counseling services because there are limited professional counselors that attend to student needs. Despite the fact that psychologists claim stress could be caused by anything, many young people find the rapid pace of modern life to be a significant source of anxiety. It is essential to define social media and mental health to have a meaningful conversation on the impact technology has on people's emotional well-being. One definition of social media is how individuals may discuss and learn more about a range of topics with one another. Video, still images, and sound are just some of the many ways data may be sent. The Effect of Media Violence on Children Research Proposal
The effect of media violence on children has been one of the most researched issues in studies related to violence. A lot of scholars argue that exposure to violence through the media has a significant impact on the psychological development of children. I always want to do research on this topic because the media is constantly expanding thus increasing the different ways in which the children are exposed. For instance, the internet and the easy access to devices such as smartphones have increased the free exposure of children to violent media content. Additionally, I would like to understand the extent to which the media can affect children’s psychological development to determine some ways in which this can be controlled. This research seeks to find evidence showing that media violence has an adverse impact on the mental development of children.
The Target Audience
This paper aims to reach the authorities who are in charge of controlling the media content including the government, media regulation agencies, and the parents. These people have the power to control what is aired on the different media platforms and the times that they are aired so that children cannot access them. Most government agencies in charge of controlling media understand the impact that violence can have on children. Therefore, they have made attempts to control the kind of content that is released to the public. However, a lot of parents do not understand the extent of damage that violence in the media can have on their children. Therefore, proving this negative impact of media on children could help the parents to work harder to control what their kids see.
Research Questions
This research paper will seek to answer the following questions;
To what extent are children exposed to violence through the media?
What is the impact of exposure to media violence on children’s psychological development?
What can the government do to reduce the impact of media exposure to children?
What can parents do to limit the impact of the media on their children?
Research Plan
To find answers to the above research questions, this study will use a meta-analytic review where data from various research studies will be combined to arrive at a conclusion of whether media violence can affect a child’s psychology when they are exposed to it. Abstract
It is essential to define social media and mental health to have a meaningful conversation on the impact technology has on people's emotional well-being. One definition of social media is how individuals may discuss and learn more about a range of topics with one another. Video, still images, and sound are just some of the many ways data may be sent. The material provided on these sites has the potential to help people or to cause harm, such as mental health problems or radicalization. YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Flickr are all examples of well-known social networking sites. Pew predicts that by 2022, 84 percent of U.S. adults will be active on at least one social networking site, up from 5 percentage points in 2002. In the United States, people mainly utilize the social media sites Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter.

One cannot imagine current life without the ubiquitous presence of social media. Since it was first created, people have found several ways to put it to use. Social media were designed to facilitate quick one-on-one contact. However, it has steadily been implemented in several industries, including schools, the business world, and hospitals, as a tool for marketing, making it simpler to contact more consumers and prospective clients in a short period. However, social media's negative aspects may harm people's health and well-being. Among the harmful impacts of social media is the rise of mental health problems, according to recent studies. Anxiety, sadness, and mania are just some of the mental health problems that have been linked to excessive social media usage.
People's mental well-being is crucial since it determines how actively they engage in everyday life. Mental health issues may impair an individual's ability to operate and can be triggered by various traumatic experiences, abusive relationships, child maltreatment, unemployment, and failed marriages. Common mental health difficulties include melancholy, inability to sleep, tension, hostility, and suppression of feelings (Coyne et al.,2020). However, mental health encompasses not only physical health but also social and emotional well-being.
Some have suggested that media positively and negatively affect users' mental health. One of social media's most frequently cited advantages is the increased privacy it provides its users. Individuals can feel safe sharing their traumatic experiences, knowing their privacy will be protected. In other words, face-to-face interactions don't necessarily guarantee the same level of ope.

Historically, men have dominated scientific research in that the both the researchers and participants have largely been male. Accordingly, the way research has been designed, the way studies have been conducted, and the ways in which results have been interpreted have been at risk for gender bias. In other words, the preconceived ideas and beliefs or unfounded prejudice about the traits and characteristics of each gender potentially influence the outcomes of research studies. Even today, as women have entered into the academic and scientific world in significant numbers, research is subject to gender bias. The implications of gender bias can be far reaching. As the scientific community uses research study results for subsequent research and the media picks up the results to report findings to the public, gender bias can have a huge impact. Society may be making decisions that are based on incorrect, misleading, or biased data. As an example, a majority of early heart disease research was conducted primarily using male subjects leading to the assumption that heart disease was a man's disease and did not significantly impact women. The gender bias in heart disease research resulted in little attention being paid to women who had heart disease symptoms, as well as delays and limitations in the treatment for these symptoms for many years. In reality, it is now common knowledge that heart disease is the leading cause of death for women, as it is for men.

From my understanding of the journal for this week, the social theory was how some ones health can be effected with or with out social relations. From the research it touches on how a person or people can be happy and also live longer with better health, when practicing social relationships. The article discuss how the theory of social relationships can make people stringer and healthier. It was used to support the research because the researchers conducted studies not only on humans but animals as well to prove this theory.

As a result, media and body images are closely interrelated due to the numerous image we see in the media.

There are several studies that have shown that stigmatization towards mental health patients have been present throughout history and even despite the evolution in modern medicine and advanced treatment. Timmermann, Uhrenfeldt and Birkelund (2014), have identified stigma as a barrier that is of significance to care or help seeking while the extent to which it still remains a barrier have not been reviewed deeply. A lot of scholars argue that exposure to violence through the media has a significant impact on the psychological development of children. I always want to do research on this topic because the media is constantly expanding thus increasing the different ways in which the children are exposed. For instance, the internet and the easy access to devices such as smartphones have increased the free exposure of children to violent media content. Additionally, I would like to understand the extent to which the media can affect children’s psychological development to determine some ways in which this can be controlled. This research seeks to find evidence showing that media violence has an adverse impact on the mental development of children.
The Target Audience
This paper aims to reach the authorities who are in charge of controlling the media content including the government, media regulation agencies, and the parents. These people have the power to control what is aired on the different media platforms and the times that they are aired so that children cannot access them. Most government agencies in charge of controlling media understand the impact that violence can have on children. Therefore, they have made attempts to control the kind of content that is released to the public. However, a lot of parents do not understand the extent of damage that violence in the media can have on their children. Therefore, proving this negative impact of media on children could help the parents to work harder to control what their kids see.
Research Questions
This research paper will seek to answer the following questions;
To what extent are children exposed to violence through the media?
What is the impact of exposure to media violence on children’s psychological development?
What can the government do to reduce the impact of media exposure to children?
What can parents do to limit the impact of the media on their children?
Research Plan
To find answers to the above research questions, this study will use a meta-analytic review where data from various research studies will be combined to arrive at a conclusion of whether media violence can affect a child’s psychology when they are exposed to it. Studies that have been done in the past two decades will be considered so that the changes that have taken place in the media can be considered.

Abstract
It is essential to define social media and mental health to have a meaningful conversation on the impact technology has on people's emotional well-being. One definition of social media is how individuals may discuss and learn more about a range of topics with one another. Video, still images, and sound are just some of the many ways data may be sent. The material provided on these sites has the potential to help people or to cause harm, such as mental health problems or radicalization. YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Flickr are all examples of well-known social networking sites. Pew predicts that by 2022, 84 percent of U.S. adults will be active on at least one social networking site, up from 5 percentage points in 2002. In the United States, people mainly utilize the social media sites Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter.
Introduction
One cannot imagine current life without the ubiquitous presence of social media. Since it was first created, people have found several ways to put it to use. Social media were designed to facilitate quick one-on-one contact. However, it has steadily been implemented in several industries, including schools, the business world, and hospitals, as a tool for marketing, making it simpler to contact more consumers and prospective clients in a short period. However, social media's negative aspects may harm people's health and well-being. Among the harmful impacts of social media is the rise of mental health problems, according to recent studies. Anxiety, sadness, and mania are just some of the mental health problems that have been linked to excessive social media usage.
People's mental well-being is crucial since it determines how actively they engage in everyday life. Mental health issues may impair an individual's ability to operate and can be triggered by various traumatic experiences, abusive relationships, child maltreatment, unemployment, and failed marriages. Common mental health difficulties include melancholy, inability to sleep, tension, hostility, and suppression of feelings (Coyne et al.,2020). However, mental health encompasses not only physical health but also social and emotional well-being.
Some have suggested that media positively and negatively affect users' mental health. One of social media's most frequently cited advantages is the increased privacy it provides its users. Individuals can feel safe sharing their traumatic experiences, knowing their privacy will be protected. In other words, face-to-face interactions don't necessarily guarantee the same level of ope.

A counterargument for this source is that it is too difficult for platforms to remove the content and to even find it. In addition, it is believed there may be harmful effects on vulnerable people posting this type of content. Personally, I believe the source is doing a good job of supporting its arguments because it provides opposing viewpoints as well as raising awareness of some of the dangers of social media posts. Historically, men have dominated scientific research in that the both the researchers and participants have largely been male. Accordingly, the way research has been designed, the way studies have been conducted, and the ways in which results have been interpreted have been at risk for gender bias. In other words, the preconceived ideas and beliefs or unfounded prejudice about the traits and characteristics of each gender potentially influence the outcomes of research studies. Even today, as women have entered into the academic and scientific world in significant numbers, research is subject to gender bias. The implications of gender bias can be far reaching. As the scientific community uses research study results for subsequent research and the media picks up the results to report findings to the public, gender bias can have a huge impact. Society may be making decisions that are based on incorrect, misleading, or biased data. As an example, a majority of early heart disease research was conducted primarily using male subjects leading to the assumption that heart disease was a man's disease and did not significantly impact women. The gender bias in heart disease research resulted in little attention being paid to women who had heart disease symptoms, as well as delays and limitations in the treatment for these symptoms for many years. In reality, it is now common knowledge that heart disease is the leading cause of death for women, as it is for men.
This Discussion asks you to think about how gender bias can impact scientific research and how the findings of biased research can impact individuals and society.

From my understanding of the journal for this week, the social theory was how some ones health can be effected with or with out social relations. From the research it touches on how a person or people can be happy and also live longer with better health, when practicing social relationships. The article discuss how the theory of social relationships can make people stringer and healthier. It was used to support the research because the researchers conducted studies not only on humans but animals as well to prove this theory.

The quantitative research results that I choose from the article was when the researchers were discovering that social relationships can cause a risk factors of mortality, and probably morbidity, from a wide range of diseases. From the readings the researchers shown that they used criteria include strength and consistencies of statistical association across a wide range of studies an cause and effect with animals and humans. An experiment of behavior pattern as an risk factor for (type A) heart disease. 1964 Surgeon general had evidence that social relationship and health increased that cigarette smoking was a cause or risk factor for mortality a range of disease. These factors are important because the researchers seen that there is less association of social relationships when it comes to smoking, because smoking is also linked to cancer.

Although social relationships as independent, overruling, and moderating variables affecting stress, health, or the relationships between them have been widely studied over the past decade, almost no attention has been paid to social relationships as dependent variables ( House, Landis & Umberson, 1988). I believe that modern social media sites support the claims that social variables determine both health and the nature of social relationships, both link social relationship to health. Modern social media is where you can give updates on thoughts and at one point it was some where you can express freedom of speech.

The media and body image advertisement are two close concepts specifically; the body image advertising displays affects our body image. Despite other elements like parenting, education, intimate relationship influencing body image, media has the greatest impact. According to Diedrichs, (2012) Americans spends 250billion hours watching TV annually. Also, advertising occupies 30 % of all television airtime. Normal child watches 20,000 televisions commercial annually. In the print media, some magazines are filled with ads. In addition, social media has the highest of users compared to any other media globally. Anything seen for many hours influence us. As a result, media and body images are closely interrelated due to the numerous image we see in the media.

Study problem
There are several studies that have shown that stigmatization towards mental health patients have been present throughout history and even despite the evolution in modern medicine and advanced treatment. For example, Verhaeghe et al., (2014), captures in a publication in reference to a study that he conducted that stigmatization towards mental health patients has been there even as early is in the 18th Century. People were hesitant to interact with people termed or perceived to have mental health conditions.
Stigmatization has resulted from the belief that those with mental problem are aggressive and dangerous creating a social distance (Szeto et al., 2017). Also, mental health-related stigma has become of major concern as it creates crucial barriers to access treatment and quality care since it not only influences the behaviour of the patients but also the attitude of the providers hence impacting help-seeking. Timmermann, Uhrenfeldt and Birkelund (2014), have identified stigma as a barrier that is of significance to care or help seeking while the extent to which it still remains a barrier have not been reviewed deeply. Therefore, this study will assess the role contributed by stigma in help seeking in depth. 1. Purpose
The intention of the research study is to review the association between stigma, mental illness and help seeking in order to formulate ways in which the stigma that is around mental health is done away with to enable as many people suffering from mental health complications to seek medical help.2. Mental health is crucial in every stage of life. It is defined as the state of psychological well-being whereby the individual realizes a satisfactory integration instinctual drive acceptable to both oneself and his or her social setting (Ritchie & Roser, 2018). Experimental and Control Groups
Experimental group: exposed to whatever treatment, policy, initiative we are testing
Control group: very similar to experimental group, except that they are NOT exposed
Can involve more than one experimental or control group
If we see a difference, we want to make sure it is due to the IV, and not to a difference between the two groups
Placebo
We often don’t want people to know if they are receiving treatment or not
We expose our control group to a “dummy” independent variable just so we are treating everyone the same
Medical research: participants don’t know what they are taking
Ensures that changes in DV actually result from IV and are not psychologically based
Double-Blind Experiment
Experimenters may be more likely to “observe” improvements among those who received drug
In a double-blind experiment, neither the subjects nor the experimenters know which is the experimental group and which is the control group
Selecting Subjects
First, must decide on target population – the group to which the results of your experiment will apply
Second, must decide how to select particular members from that group for your experiment

Introduction
In 1279, under the leadership of Kublai Khan, the Mongols ousted the Song dynasty
and completed their conquest of China. As they
took control, they established the Yuan dynasty,
with Kublai Khan serving as emperor. However,
Mongol rule over China was relatively short lived.
Within 100 years, the Yuan dynasty would be
forced out by Chinese rebels.
Under Mongol rule, the Chinese became
increasingly angered by policies that favored
Mongols and foreigners. This anger and resentment
eventually resulted in unrest. Around 1350, small
states in China began to emerge to fight the
Mongols. Chinese leaders turned to military force to
advance their interests and establish regional
power. Some leaders were members of the upper class, and others were religious
leaders or bandits supported by peasants. By the middle of the 1350s, these Chinese
powers were united in their campaign to get rid of Mongol rule.
The years of ongoing warfare spurred military innovation among the Chinese.
Although the Mongols had access to gunpowder weapons, they did not develop new
technologies. In contrast, the first large cannons in China were manufactured by the
Chinese rebels. While the term “Gunpowder Empire” is often associated with the
Ottoman Empire, the Safavid Empire, and the Mughal Empire, the Chinese
advancements in gunpowder weaponry has led some historians to regard Ming China
as the world’s first gunpowder empire.

As schools break for summer, some families -- like mine -- are still planning their vacations. So I
took a look at two prominent travel sites, Expedia and Priceline, to see which one's media strategy
is likely to attract more trip planners.
Their media plans are especially important as the travel industry picks up after a tough 2009.
Demand for flights and hotels are rebounding and so, too, are airfares and room rates. With
slimmer margins on airline tickets, hotels have very much become the major battleground for
Expedia and Priceline and this is reflected in the focus of their advertising. Online Travel Agencies
(OTA's) accounted for 34.7% of all U.S. hotel bookings in the first quarter of 2010, up from 27.8% in
2009, Priceline CMO Brett Keller said in a recent speech.
Creative executions
Expedia launched a new branding campaign for 2010. Its tagline, "Where you book matters,"
accompanied a new logo incorporated into its creative messaging. The campaign, which targets
frequent leisure travelers, launched Dec. 26 with commercials featuring a visual metaphor of
building blocks as a way to demonstrate how consumers interact with Expedia. The first spot starts
with upbeat soft-rock music narrated by an unseen woman dictating her specifications for the
perfect "girls' weekend." She talks about having multiple hotel options and the ability to compare
dates for the best savings. Expedia's signature "dot coooom" jingle ends the spot. A spot with a
man's voice and trip goals was launched in February.

Priceline has built its position in the market on the opportunity for customers to name their own
price, brought to life through some hilarious spots fronted by pitchman William Shatner. This year,
Shatner introduced his new sidekick "Big Deal," a 520 lb 6'5" character who helps persuade hotels
to take a deal. In February, the Big Deal ads were joined by new creative that featured the
Negotiator's "Evil Twin" (played, of course, by Shatner). Priceline takes a karate chop at
Expedia.com (and Hotels.com), claiming that Priceline can get prices 50% lower.
The strategies of the two companies differed noticeably. Expedia.com attracted 16.7 million unique
visitors in May, 59% more than the 10.5 million who visited Priceline.com, according to ComScore.
And Expedia media seems to reflect this, promoting the site as the generic travel brand for a broad
audience and highlighting its full range of services and travel destinations. Priceline is more single-
mindedly focused on price, and its media appears to target lower down the purchase funnel with an
emphasis on converting transactions.

SUMMARY
1. Wilf & Labandeira (1999) suggested that increased temperatures because of global
warming will cause an increase in herbivory by insects. This conclusion was based on the
supposed effect of temperature on herbivores but did not consider an effect of temperature
on plant growth.
2. We studied the effect of temperature on grazing pressure by the small China-mark moth
(Cataclysta lemnata L.) on Lemna minor L. in laboratory experiments.
3. Between temperatures of 15 and 24 �C we found a sigmoidal increase in C. lemnata
grazing rates, and an approximately linear increase in L. minor growth rates. Therefore, an
increase in temperature did not always result in higher grazing pressure by this insect as
the regrowth of Lemna changes also.
4. At temperatures below 18.7 �C, Lemna benefited more than Cataclysta from an increase in
temperature, causing a decrease in grazing pressure.
5. In the context of global warming, we conclude that rising temperatures will not
necessarily increase grazing pressure by herbivorous insects.

Introduction
Duckweeds (Lemnaceae) are often abundant in dit-
ches and ponds (Landolt, 1986). Especially when
nitrogen and phosphorus concentrations in the water
column are high, the surface area can become covered
with dense floating mats of duckweed (Lüönd, 1980,
1983; Portielje & Roijackers, 1995). These mats have
large impacts on freshwater ecosystems, restricting
oxygen supply (Pokorny & Rejmánková, 1983), light
availability of algae and submerged macrophytes
(Wolek, 1974) and temperature fluxes (Dale &
Gillespie, 1976; Landolt, 1986; Goldsborough, 1993).
These changed conditions often have a negative effect
on the biodiversity of the ecosystem (Janse & van
Puijenbroek, 1998). Other free-floating plants such as
red water fern (Azolla filiculoides), water hyacinth
(Eichhornia crassipes) and water lettuce (Pistia stratiotes)
often cause serious problems in tropical and sub-
tropical regions (Mehra et al., 1999; Hill, 2003).
Various species of herbivorous insects consume
free-floating macrophytes. Several species of weevils
(Coleoptera: Curculionidae) are able to consume large
amounts of red water fern, water hyacinth and water
lettuce (Cilliers, 1991; Hill & Cilliers, 1999; Aguilar
et al., 2003), while the larvae of the semi-aquatic Small
China-mark moth (Cataclysta lemnata) are capable of
removing large parts of floating cover of Lemnaceae
covers (Wesenberg-Lund, 1943). Duckweed is not
only used as food source, but also as building material

Each Journal Article Review must be approximately 3–5 double-spacedpages (not including the title and reference pages) and must be created in a Microsoft Word document. ST. LUKE'S HEALTH CARE SYSTEM
Hospitals have been some of the earliest adopters of wireless local area
networks (WLANs). The clinician user population is typically mobile and
spread out across a number of buildings, with a need to enter and access
data in real time. St. Luke's Episcopal Health System in Houston, Texas
(www.stlukestexas.com) is a good example of a hospital that has made
effective use wireless technologies to streamline clinical work processes.
Their wireless network is distributed throughout several hospital buildings
and is used in many different applications. The majority of the St. Luke’s
staff uses wireless devices to access data in real-time, 24 hours a day.
Examples include the following:
• Diagnosing patients and charting their progress: Doctors and
nurses use wireless laptops and tablet PCs to track and chart patient
care data.
• Prescriptions: Medications are dispensed from a cart that is wheeled
from room to room. Clinician uses a wireless scanner to scan the
patient's ID bracelet. If a prescription order has been changed or
cancelled, the clinician will know immediately because the mobile device
displays current patient data.

• Critical care units: These areas use the WLAN because running hard
wires would mean moving ceiling panels. The dust and microbes that
such work stirs up would pose a threat to patients.
• Case management: The case managers in the Utilization Management
Department use the WLAN to document patient reviews, insurance
calls/authorization information, and denial information. The wireless
session enables real time access to information that ensures the correct
level of care for a patient and/or timely discharge.
• Blood management: Blood management is a complex process that
involves monitoring both patients and blood products during all stages of
a treatment process. To ensure that blood products and patients are
matched correctly, St. Luke’s uses a wireless bar code scanning process
that involves scanning both patient and blood product bar codes during
the infusion process. This enables clinicians to confirm patient and blood

The expected settlement under the foundation for the parking garage was calculated to be 1.09 inches, and the expected settlement for the medical tower was calculated to be 0.78 inch. Also, ASU Geotechnical, Inc. has recommended a drilled shaft deep foundation design to be used for the three-story medical tower. Furthermore, for the 3-story medical tower the pile should have a diameter of 48 inches and reach a depth of 40 feet below the ground surface with a total of 2 piles required per column. For the multi-story parking garage, a drilled shaft should have a diameter of 48 inches and reach a depth of 70 feet below the ground surface with a total of 2 piles required per column.
The expected total differential settlement for the parking garage was calculated to be 0.31 inches, and the total differential settlement for the tower was calculated to be 0.23 inch. The recommended dimensions for the retaining wall include a 12-foot-wide footing base with 1.5-foot thickness. The entire retaining wall should have a total height of 20 feet, with only 18 feet above the ground surface. The 0.5 foot of soil above the toe was placed to adjust the effects of sliding of the wall. The base of the stem wall should have a thickness of 1.5-foot, and the top of the stem wall should have a thickness of 8 inches. Also, the factor of safety for sliding was calculated to be 1.59, the factor of safety for the bearing capacity was calculated to be 2.78

The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Media, including social networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook, among others, have rapidly developed. Facebook is considered to be the largest social networking site used globally. In the past decade, media has caused various changes, especially in the way individuals interact as well as communicate. However, it is not clear whether these changes may have an impact on the usual human characters. Previous research carried out shows that prolonged use of media may be associated with signs of depression. In addition, studies have also shown that the effects are associated with low self-esteem, and this mainly affects adolescents and children. However, other studies differ and have shown that media does
- 3. not affect negatively and no mental problems associated with the use of media. Thus, the relationship between media and mental health is controversial, and many questions have remained unanswered. Moreover, the research on this topic has experienced a lot of challenges. This paper focuses on findings regarding the association between the media and mental health issues such as internet addiction, depression signs and symptoms and low self-esteem. Media and Signs and symptoms of depression Various reasons suggest that media users are at risk of getting depressed. This is because there are many factors that may cause a depressed individual to increase their use or begin to use a social networking site. Among the reasons why media is associated with depressive symptoms is that it may lead to negative changes in the personality characteristics of other users. Generally, internet use affects the social relationship to the extent of affecting participation in community life. According to a study done by Kraut et al ., 1998 shows that increased time online is associated with reduced communication with other members of the family. This may result in an increased feeling of loneliness as well as depression. Further research suggests that computer use may have various negative effects, especially on the social development of children. This research focused on investigating possible impacts of internet browsing and other online uses such as email checking on mental health. As a result of the development of social networks, for example, Facebook in 2004, time spent online has greatly increased. On the other hand, time on interpersonal interaction has reduced, including among the family members. However, research on the relationship between the use of various social networking sites and depression has not been properly investigated. This is because most social networks and upgrade in the media are recent discoveries. According to a study carried out on high school population, it was found that there is a relationship
- 4. between time spent on social networking sites and depressive symptoms(Pantic et al ., 2012). However, different authors have found that media is not related to depressive symptoms especially older adolescents, for example, University students. This reaction towards media is different, and age is the main determinant (Kross et al ., 2013). Due to differences between different authors and lack sufficient evidence, it cannot be concluded that media causes depression. Recent arguments suggest that media strengthens social ties among family members, among others. As a result of strengthened social ties, thus there is social support which is of benefit to mental health. Media and stigma Media contribute largely to the stigma of mental illness. This is through inaccurate and exaggerated images as well as inaccurate information about mental illnesses. Various theories such as cultivation and social learning theory have been used to describe the relationship between media and stigma of mental illness(Wahl, 1995). According to cultivation theory, individuals who spend more of their time in the television and other virtual world, may think the real world according to the images they see. In other words, they are likely to perceive a virtual worldview of mental illness(Gerbner et al ., 2002). Social learning theory proposes that observation is also part of learning not only through direct experience. Media teaches about how to treat individuals with mental illness(Bandura et al ., 1994). In situations where personal experience with individuals who have mental illnesses is absent, people rely on the media. Unfortunately, media identifies and shows people with mental illness as unwanted individuals in society since they are seen as violent. Thus people with mental illness are feared and avoided(Link and Cullen, 1986). Studies have shown that negative views of individuals with psychiatric disorders are proportional to time spent on media. In most cases, television dramas show people with mental unpredictable. The media does
- 5. not make it clear to the public that only a small percentage of individuals with mental illness commit crimes. In additions, crimes committed by normal people are high compared to those committed by individuals with mental illnesses(Granello and Pauley, 2000). This, on the other hand, has resulted in the low self- esteem of individuals in the society. As defined by different by authors, self-esteem is how one values, likes and approves him or herself. Self-esteem is one of the most important factors in developing as well as maintaining mental health. Additionally, gender bias ness becomes evident, since men are shown to be having more serious disorders. Women are discriminated apparently, and men are shown to be the common gender that commits crimes. Media and addiction Media addiction, including internet addiction, is an upcoming phenomenon; thus, no sufficient research is done. Media addiction results in neglecting other important aspects of social functioning such as family as well as offline friends. Different studies have been carried out to show addiction disorder, especially of social networking sites(Pantic, 2014). Research carried out by Wolniczak et al ., 2013 on the sleep quality of Facebook users showed that Facebook dependence are related to poor quality of sleep. Of great concern is whether media addiction should be considered as a mental disorder. However, it is not clear whether it is an illness by its own or is a manifestation of other disorders. According to the Classification of Diseases and Health problems, there are various different criteria for dependence syndrome in other terms of addiction. Among the different criteria for dependence, the syndrome is a strong desire, difficulty in controlling consumption as well as difficulty in controlling the behavior. In the case where these features are evident, then a diagnosis should be made. Thus media addiction can be considered as a mental illness (World Health Organization. (2014) Dependence

This includes media addiction, the stigma of mental illnesses and also depression. This negative effect results to further effects in the society such as gender biasness. However, there has been a lot of controversy among different authors, whereby authors differ in opinions on the effects of media on mental health. Further research should be done to end the differences between different authors. The research should provide more evidence to prove the effects of media on mental health.
