Memory is our ability to encode, store, retain, and recall past experiences and information. It involves several areas of the brain working together. There are three main types of memory: sensory memory which only lasts a fraction of a second; short-term memory which can recall information over seconds to minutes; and long-term memory which can store vast amounts of information indefinitely. The formation of long-term memory involves physical changes in the brain through the strengthening of connections between neurons.
