Production and Distribution
Marwa Rahman
In our Teen film opening, we created our own production idents to show
the independent companies behind our film. We took inspiration from
other companies such as New Line Cinema, Working Titles, 20th Century
Fox, to name a few. This was made using motion. Compared to a major
company we had a very limited budget.
Production Company
In our Teen film opening, we created our distribution idents as well,
to highlight the fact that we were making and putting out our film
by ourselves with a limited amount of money. We took inspiration
from Paramount, Sony Pictures, Warner Bros, and more. This was
made using motion. However, instead of a worldwide release, it
was showcased at the local cinema and the internet.
Distribution Company
Both of the companies involved in our films are independent. We
had a very low budget to work with and used technology that was
easy to obtain. We could not have used major stars as our budget
would not be able to cover their salary. One of our limitations was
the fact that we could not use expensive pieces of technology such
as CGI which may have improved the quality of the film.
Small Independent or Big Major?
Production ‘Cons’
However… we did have more creative freedom on what we
wanted to do in our film such as making the fake blood and the
bloodied t-shirt. Although we did use inexperienced actors, it did
give them a chance to display their skills. Lastly, it was so much
cheaper to distribute online rather than paying money for posters
on buses.
Small Independent or Big Major?
Production ‘Pros’
The independent nature of the both companies were an issue as
they did not allow you to be extravagant with the content and the
marketing of the film. We could not advertise our film as much as
big major companies, therefore decreasing the chance of a wide
range audience. Smaller audience means not a big amount of
money coming through ticket sales.
Small Independent or Big Major?
Distribution ‘Cons’
However… it will reach our target audience as the
marketing is mainly online, which many young people
are constantly on. This means that they have a good
chance of seeing the advertising and would be more
likely to see it. Also, film festivals will provide a good
platform.
