What is Film Distribution?
First thing first, Film distribution is the procedure a film company goes through every time they
make a movie and make it available for their target audience to watch, often in the cinema,
DVD and downloadable copies.
Distribution a film would involve the release and supporting a film in the market, Hollywood
films are more likely to reach the cinemas and it can also be shown internationally and the
processes are often large scale and very effective because of the money and the effort.
When it comes to distribution a film in the UK, we can mention that the film also involves
releasing and supporting a film in the market, however it is more locally based rather than
worldwide.
These are some of the worldwide film
companies, who have access to huge
finance and they are known for making
the most successful, most famous films in
the world.
However, it is very clear that my film has
no chance of being distributed by these
companies because my does not have
the package, which these companies
are looking for.
Regardless of my film being low budget and lack of professional tools, such
as mics, lighting rigs and sets, my thriller film is certainly conventional.
Some companies are more likely to considered my film typical thriller film
for a several of reasons.
First of all, it is debateable that my film follows many of the conventions of
a thriller film. For instance, my film begins with a murder taking place and
the killers face is hiding from the audience, so therefore there is no
dramatic irony. The setting of the film is also a conventional to a thriller film
because the murder takes place in the alleyway.
On the other hand though, my film could be supposed as independent.
This is due to complete lack of budget and clearly my actors were not and
only one of them does a level drama; it was also set in my school, using
only two location.
Independent companies that I could choose to distributed my film
First of all, In my opinion, I personally think that a Revolution studios and Sigma film would be
more appropriate to produce my media product; ‘the opening two minutes of my film.’
They are appropriate because due to many factors; one of them being the fact that my film does
not include any high-tech special effects, so therefore , it can easily be created by a low budget film
company, such as Sigma films. The benefits of independent companies is that the product is unique
and by distributing my product using an independent company, a niche audience will understands
and appreciates the genre of my film and the storyline would give greater level of satisfaction.
To gain interest from independent production companies, I
could enter various film festivals to attract attention. One film
festival I could attend is BFI London film festival.
There are several ways, which I could create thrill or hype for my
film. To do this I could post my two minute opening of my film on a
well known site on the social network, such as Facebook, twitter
and Vine. The thrill that this would produce could be amplified by
using these sites to gain audience for my films advantage
