Learning outcome 2 (U21)
be able to create a proposal
and pitch for an original
media product.
purpose
• I want to create a brand-new pop-based magazine aimed at teens and adults
interested in genre of pop music. There are millions of people who both read
magazines and listen to pop music so I though it would be a great idea to start
magazine based on the genre pop. I want to create magazines focusing on all
things pop, I want to release the magazine on a monthly basis where people
can pay for it either once a month, every three months, or yearly, this will be
either a physical magazine or an online membership subscription.
• The purpose I am making my magazine is to entertain a new audience about
pop and introduce a range of both large and niche artists, I have decided this so
my audience can hopefully be educated on both pop artiest but also the history
of the genre. I want to inform readers about all things pop and the genre of
music itself, to promote different music artists that are both small and big and
maybe even promote venues, another purpose for making my magazine is to
advertise products that are music related or artists, this is so I am able to make
money to pay for the start-up of the magazine. my objective of making my
magazine is to inspire teens and young adults about the history of pop and
especially the era of the 2000s, to inform readers of artists related to pop, to
inform readers on venues related to pop and also products that could be
music/pop related. My objectives will be shown through my magazine and my
website. My overall of purpose for my magazine is to entertain readers on the
genre pop, I want to create this magazine for people to have something to
escape to and read when they need some time to themselves to relax.
Form
• My magazine will be sold both online and as a monthly print. People who want to
pay for the magazine can pay on our online website and decide if they want the
magazine to be sent to them as a physical copy or if they want to have an online
only digital subscription, customers can also decide the period of time they will
pay for the magazine. I have decided for the digital magazine to cost £6 for 6
issues and then a rolling subscription of £15 for every 6 issues, for the physical
copy to cost either £4.99 for a single issue, £10 for 6 issues and then a rolling
subscription of £20 for every 6 issues or £40 for a whole year, this will include the
price of delivery. when a customer decides to purchase a physical magazine they
will also have access to all online issues. I was able to decide the price for my
magazine when I compared it to other large magazines, I decided to make the
price slightly cheaper as my magazine is niche and new to the market, so it won't
have as much credibility as other known magazines.
• when deciding the amount of pages for my magazine I looked at others to
compare it to, I looked at some vogue magazines that I already owned at and
seeing that they had over 50 pages I would making my magazine that thick would
be unrealistic and very difficult, evidently I have decided to try and Aim for my
magazine to have 30 pages in it. I want the magazine pages to matte with a glossy
front cover. when thinking about adverts within my magazine I think it is
something that is necessary as I start my magazine business I will have a small
budget so having the opportunity of putting adverts both in my magazine and on
our website is something that is definitely something that I feel is necessary. I
want their to be slight diffraction between my magazine on line and print for
example on my online magazine version I will add music previews and video
interviews subscribers can watch and listen to, and then in the paper copy I will
add exclusive articles that cannot be seen for website only subscribers.
Genre
• I have decided for my genre to be pop. The genre pop is the most popular music genres in
the world with hundreds of millions of people who actively listen to the genre daily. Pop is
one of the most listened to genres in North London making it a great reason to use it for my
magazine. Pop music is commonly listened to by the young generation, typically 16-25.
having the opportunity for parts of the client brief being open to interpretation means that I
have the chance to make a magazine that is both original and new. Making the
content within my magazine, colour scheme, fonts and more visually appealing but at the
same time relatable to my genre is something I will try and convey through the process of
making my magazine.
Content
• The content in my magazine is to produce a genre-based magazine. I think doing this would be a
good idea as there are many different genres for me to decide on. Having a specific genre for
my magazine means I can speak about whichever genre I decide and connect the magazine to
artiest within that specific genre and connect venues within North London to my magazine as
well, speaking about venues which are know for holding the specific genre of my magazine.
doing a genre-based magazine gives me as the writer a lot to write about.
• I want to produce a pop-based magazine, deciding to use the genre of pop will be a good idea
as it is incredibly popular within North London, and it is my preferred choice of genre to listen
to in my own time, meaning I have the most knowledge of the genre pop and the genre I am
most passionate about, meaning it would be silly for me to do a different genre if I decided to
do a genre-based magazine. The content in my magazine will Include various artists that are
pop related, various venues that are largely related to pop concerts and festivals, products that
are related to pop, for example music artists' merchandise. Advertisements will also be part of
our magazine as it is way for us to get a source of money from our magazine. the magazines will
have many articles talking about all things pop including images and even quizzes. I want to
include a different interview from either a big or small pop artist in each issue of my magazines,
as well as including features and reviews.
• Deciding on making a pop-based magazine with thrive the most and as well as it has best
potential, this decision was easy to make when writing task 1 for my media project. I have
decided to make a genre-based magazine for my course work as I felt it would be the best
option. When composing the table of strengths and weaknesses in task 1 it is clear to see that
deciding to make my magazine genre based would be the best option, although there may be
weaknesses to this decision, there are weaknesses if I decide to do any of my ideas and I will try
to overcome them. I have decided for my sub genre for my magazine to be pop based. The
genre pop is popular within North London meaning that it will both attract more customers and
stand out. I want this magazine to be appealing both the look of it, but also what is inside,
deciding to do pop as my genre gives me the freedom to make my target audience quite broad
as many people from all ages are interested in this genre of music, as well as it being one of the
most popular music genres in the world. I want to make my magazine individual so I am going
use the theme of 2000s music and celebrities to attract my magazine specifically to an age
range from 16-25, this age category can relate to this era of time within my magazine and mean
it will stand out.
Target audience
• My primary audience for my magazine will be predominantly young adults
aged 16-25, the social grade will be A,B, and C1 as the magazine is both a
luxury and seen as something unnecessary for the price. 16-25 is going to
be the target audience for the magazine as at this age we can tell by trends
that people who are interested in pop are in this age category. making my
magazine both pop and 2000s will entice my target audience as the era is
something that is in trend at the moment at will make out magazine stand
out and attract our demographic. Here is what I think ones of our potential
customers from our target audience may look like:
• I have chosen for my secondary audience to be a younger sibling who is
interested in similar music or who looks up to the older siblings and wants
to be like them so they read the magazine, although they are young and
might not know the music, they want to know about it, so they read their
older sibling’s magazines. although pop music has a specific target
audience it doesn't mean that other people in different age categories are
not listening to the same music, for example most pop music is suitable for
a younger audience compared to other genres such as rock or hip-hop.
Resources
and
personnel
• The resources I need order to make my magazine is I need to have digital
cameras, lens, tripods, lighting and backdrops, a graphic tablet, a
computer, software for example adobe photoshop or photopea, Microsoft
word or google docs, props for photoshoot, photographer, models, a
studio space, transportation for equipment and staff, and an external hard
drive. all of these are necessary resources that will help to make my
magazine come together.
• the personnel that is necessary when composing my magazine is a
photographer will need to take professional photos to make high
quality photographs for my images within my magazine, a writer, a
videographer will be needed to video high quality videos for the online
version of my magazine, an editor will need to edit the photos for
my images as well as an editor to edit videos for the online magazine, a
graphic designer will help to make the graphics within the magazine
for example the front cover and headline font. A printer company will help
to supply all of the physical print copies of my magazine.
• when starting my magazine, I will not be using all the personnel I have
listed as I have a small budget, I will make the decision on which tasks I
feel I can do myself and others I feel
are necessary for professional companies to use for example I will not
print my magazine in house or use models for my magazine that
are expensive. once my magazine is established, I will use all
my personnel I have listed and maybe even more if our brand expands.
Distribution
• when distributing my magazine, I want publish it
in as many places as possible, for example hard
copies will be sold in newsagents, newspaper
stands, supermarkets, and airports, the online
print on the other hard will be harder to sell, we
will sell our magazine on our website for it to be
delivered to people's homes on websites such as
WHSmith, Ocado, Amazon and Boots. we want
give customers the option between a hard copy
and online copy meaning if they want, they can
purchase the magazine as an online form
instead of a hard copy, these will be assessable
on digital devices and will only be found on
online stores. having our magazine sold in as
many palaces as possible means that people will
be able to buy the magazine from almost
anywhere making accessible and means more
people will buy it, this will also help to target a
much wider range of people.
Marketing
• When we advertise our magazine, we will promote it on various
social media apps which our target audience will be able to see,
by making ads specifically to our target audience on apps like
Spotify, Tik tok and Instagram we will have a higher chance of
reaching our audience and getting more subscribers. We will
have pop related celebrities do product placement for our issues
which they are seen in. We will have a new magazine every
month to endorse people to stay up to date with the latest on
pop. We will have our own social medias where we promote our
new issues showing potential customers previews of upcoming
issues. Our main promotion we will have is the more magazines
you purchase for a period e.g., 1 moth, 3 months… the price will
be reduced per issue. Our main way of promoting our magazine
will be on social media as it is free and if we make both good and
unique content we have a chance of making it viral, something
that has been done by other businesses and is seen as
successful, for example the airline Ryanair has gained millions of
views from connecting to a newer audience on tik tok, I think
replicating this will be a great source of marketing for the
magazine as well as it is free advertisement, something which
can be taken for advantage as the budget is small.
Title of my magazine:
I have decided to call the name of
my magazine PURE POP
here are some fonts I may use for the title of
my magazine:
I have decided that I will use the font Rocket Pop for my title, here is what is is going to look like:
Sketched layouts
Here is a mock-up for my front cover of my magazine, and the double page for my magazine:
Font styles
When making my magazine, font styes are something
that is vital and is important to attract customer, make
my magazine look professional, appealing, but at the
same time following the aesthetic of my magazine issue.
Throughout my magazine I have decided for my body
copy font to be Times New Roman, it will be in size 10
and will be seen in the double page of my interview
article, this font will also be used in the small print seen
on my front cover. Here is the font I will use:
I have already made my decision previously for what
the font of my title will be. I have also decided that for
cover lines on the front cover of my magazine I have
decided to use a thin but attract font from da font:
Article ideas
• For the double page in my magazine,
I will be writing an article on an
interview with a pop artiest, by
deciding to do this I will be able to
make an exclusive live video version
of the interview on the pure pop
website exclusively for customers
who are subscribed to the digital
version of pure pop magazine. I will
promote the interview on the front
cover of my magazine issue, the
artiest I decide to use will be the
main image for both the front cover
and double page of my magazine,
having an exclusive interview with a
pop artist will entice potential
customers to buy the magazine.
Here is a
Mood board I
created:

Media practice presention

  • 1. Planning and preparing a pitch P3, m2, u21 Learning outcome 2 (U21) be able to create a proposal and pitch for an original media product.
  • 2. purpose • I want to create a brand-new pop-based magazine aimed at teens and adults interested in genre of pop music. There are millions of people who both read magazines and listen to pop music so I though it would be a great idea to start magazine based on the genre pop. I want to create magazines focusing on all things pop, I want to release the magazine on a monthly basis where people can pay for it either once a month, every three months, or yearly, this will be either a physical magazine or an online membership subscription. • The purpose I am making my magazine is to entertain a new audience about pop and introduce a range of both large and niche artists, I have decided this so my audience can hopefully be educated on both pop artiest but also the history of the genre. I want to inform readers about all things pop and the genre of music itself, to promote different music artists that are both small and big and maybe even promote venues, another purpose for making my magazine is to advertise products that are music related or artists, this is so I am able to make money to pay for the start-up of the magazine. my objective of making my magazine is to inspire teens and young adults about the history of pop and especially the era of the 2000s, to inform readers of artists related to pop, to inform readers on venues related to pop and also products that could be music/pop related. My objectives will be shown through my magazine and my website. My overall of purpose for my magazine is to entertain readers on the genre pop, I want to create this magazine for people to have something to escape to and read when they need some time to themselves to relax.
  • 3. Form • My magazine will be sold both online and as a monthly print. People who want to pay for the magazine can pay on our online website and decide if they want the magazine to be sent to them as a physical copy or if they want to have an online only digital subscription, customers can also decide the period of time they will pay for the magazine. I have decided for the digital magazine to cost £6 for 6 issues and then a rolling subscription of £15 for every 6 issues, for the physical copy to cost either £4.99 for a single issue, £10 for 6 issues and then a rolling subscription of £20 for every 6 issues or £40 for a whole year, this will include the price of delivery. when a customer decides to purchase a physical magazine they will also have access to all online issues. I was able to decide the price for my magazine when I compared it to other large magazines, I decided to make the price slightly cheaper as my magazine is niche and new to the market, so it won't have as much credibility as other known magazines. • when deciding the amount of pages for my magazine I looked at others to compare it to, I looked at some vogue magazines that I already owned at and seeing that they had over 50 pages I would making my magazine that thick would be unrealistic and very difficult, evidently I have decided to try and Aim for my magazine to have 30 pages in it. I want the magazine pages to matte with a glossy front cover. when thinking about adverts within my magazine I think it is something that is necessary as I start my magazine business I will have a small budget so having the opportunity of putting adverts both in my magazine and on our website is something that is definitely something that I feel is necessary. I want their to be slight diffraction between my magazine on line and print for example on my online magazine version I will add music previews and video interviews subscribers can watch and listen to, and then in the paper copy I will add exclusive articles that cannot be seen for website only subscribers.
  • 4. Genre • I have decided for my genre to be pop. The genre pop is the most popular music genres in the world with hundreds of millions of people who actively listen to the genre daily. Pop is one of the most listened to genres in North London making it a great reason to use it for my magazine. Pop music is commonly listened to by the young generation, typically 16-25. having the opportunity for parts of the client brief being open to interpretation means that I have the chance to make a magazine that is both original and new. Making the content within my magazine, colour scheme, fonts and more visually appealing but at the same time relatable to my genre is something I will try and convey through the process of making my magazine.
  • 5. Content • The content in my magazine is to produce a genre-based magazine. I think doing this would be a good idea as there are many different genres for me to decide on. Having a specific genre for my magazine means I can speak about whichever genre I decide and connect the magazine to artiest within that specific genre and connect venues within North London to my magazine as well, speaking about venues which are know for holding the specific genre of my magazine. doing a genre-based magazine gives me as the writer a lot to write about. • I want to produce a pop-based magazine, deciding to use the genre of pop will be a good idea as it is incredibly popular within North London, and it is my preferred choice of genre to listen to in my own time, meaning I have the most knowledge of the genre pop and the genre I am most passionate about, meaning it would be silly for me to do a different genre if I decided to do a genre-based magazine. The content in my magazine will Include various artists that are pop related, various venues that are largely related to pop concerts and festivals, products that are related to pop, for example music artists' merchandise. Advertisements will also be part of our magazine as it is way for us to get a source of money from our magazine. the magazines will have many articles talking about all things pop including images and even quizzes. I want to include a different interview from either a big or small pop artist in each issue of my magazines, as well as including features and reviews. • Deciding on making a pop-based magazine with thrive the most and as well as it has best potential, this decision was easy to make when writing task 1 for my media project. I have decided to make a genre-based magazine for my course work as I felt it would be the best option. When composing the table of strengths and weaknesses in task 1 it is clear to see that deciding to make my magazine genre based would be the best option, although there may be weaknesses to this decision, there are weaknesses if I decide to do any of my ideas and I will try to overcome them. I have decided for my sub genre for my magazine to be pop based. The genre pop is popular within North London meaning that it will both attract more customers and stand out. I want this magazine to be appealing both the look of it, but also what is inside, deciding to do pop as my genre gives me the freedom to make my target audience quite broad as many people from all ages are interested in this genre of music, as well as it being one of the most popular music genres in the world. I want to make my magazine individual so I am going use the theme of 2000s music and celebrities to attract my magazine specifically to an age range from 16-25, this age category can relate to this era of time within my magazine and mean it will stand out.
  • 6. Target audience • My primary audience for my magazine will be predominantly young adults aged 16-25, the social grade will be A,B, and C1 as the magazine is both a luxury and seen as something unnecessary for the price. 16-25 is going to be the target audience for the magazine as at this age we can tell by trends that people who are interested in pop are in this age category. making my magazine both pop and 2000s will entice my target audience as the era is something that is in trend at the moment at will make out magazine stand out and attract our demographic. Here is what I think ones of our potential customers from our target audience may look like: • I have chosen for my secondary audience to be a younger sibling who is interested in similar music or who looks up to the older siblings and wants to be like them so they read the magazine, although they are young and might not know the music, they want to know about it, so they read their older sibling’s magazines. although pop music has a specific target audience it doesn't mean that other people in different age categories are not listening to the same music, for example most pop music is suitable for a younger audience compared to other genres such as rock or hip-hop.
  • 7. Resources and personnel • The resources I need order to make my magazine is I need to have digital cameras, lens, tripods, lighting and backdrops, a graphic tablet, a computer, software for example adobe photoshop or photopea, Microsoft word or google docs, props for photoshoot, photographer, models, a studio space, transportation for equipment and staff, and an external hard drive. all of these are necessary resources that will help to make my magazine come together. • the personnel that is necessary when composing my magazine is a photographer will need to take professional photos to make high quality photographs for my images within my magazine, a writer, a videographer will be needed to video high quality videos for the online version of my magazine, an editor will need to edit the photos for my images as well as an editor to edit videos for the online magazine, a graphic designer will help to make the graphics within the magazine for example the front cover and headline font. A printer company will help to supply all of the physical print copies of my magazine. • when starting my magazine, I will not be using all the personnel I have listed as I have a small budget, I will make the decision on which tasks I feel I can do myself and others I feel are necessary for professional companies to use for example I will not print my magazine in house or use models for my magazine that are expensive. once my magazine is established, I will use all my personnel I have listed and maybe even more if our brand expands.
  • 8. Distribution • when distributing my magazine, I want publish it in as many places as possible, for example hard copies will be sold in newsagents, newspaper stands, supermarkets, and airports, the online print on the other hard will be harder to sell, we will sell our magazine on our website for it to be delivered to people's homes on websites such as WHSmith, Ocado, Amazon and Boots. we want give customers the option between a hard copy and online copy meaning if they want, they can purchase the magazine as an online form instead of a hard copy, these will be assessable on digital devices and will only be found on online stores. having our magazine sold in as many palaces as possible means that people will be able to buy the magazine from almost anywhere making accessible and means more people will buy it, this will also help to target a much wider range of people.
  • 9. Marketing • When we advertise our magazine, we will promote it on various social media apps which our target audience will be able to see, by making ads specifically to our target audience on apps like Spotify, Tik tok and Instagram we will have a higher chance of reaching our audience and getting more subscribers. We will have pop related celebrities do product placement for our issues which they are seen in. We will have a new magazine every month to endorse people to stay up to date with the latest on pop. We will have our own social medias where we promote our new issues showing potential customers previews of upcoming issues. Our main promotion we will have is the more magazines you purchase for a period e.g., 1 moth, 3 months… the price will be reduced per issue. Our main way of promoting our magazine will be on social media as it is free and if we make both good and unique content we have a chance of making it viral, something that has been done by other businesses and is seen as successful, for example the airline Ryanair has gained millions of views from connecting to a newer audience on tik tok, I think replicating this will be a great source of marketing for the magazine as well as it is free advertisement, something which can be taken for advantage as the budget is small.

  • 14. Article ideas • For the double page in my magazine, I will be writing an article on an interview with a pop artiest, by deciding to do this I will be able to make an exclusive live video version of the interview on the pure pop website exclusively for customers who are subscribed to the digital version of pure pop magazine. I will promote the interview on the front cover of my magazine issue, the artiest I decide to use will be the main image for both the front cover and double page of my magazine, having an exclusive interview with a pop artist will entice potential customers to buy the magazine.

  10. The mood board I have created will help with the planning for my real magazine as it includes images such as pop based magazine front covers, pop artists, colour schemes and font ideas. The client brief was both short and much of the brief being open to interpretation meaning I am able to make a lot of decisions to make the magazine the best it can be while also showing off my originality and creativity throughout my magazine. When planning my magazine and making the decision for my final idea I have made sure that I have followed the client brief and have made sure my magazine is within the brief. The mood board I made below shows inspiration for both my double page spread and front cover for my magazine. I added font ideas that remind me of pop and are also fun, I also added a colour scheme that I think would be exiting and eye catching.
