Media Evaluation Kurt Spence
In what way does your media product use, develop, or challenge forms and conventions of real media products? Well I feel that my media product uses conventions of a real media production by the effects and transitions I use, I feel these maybe the strong part of my media product another thing is the actor/singer I used in the video Granty G I feel he brought a real personality to the video and that portrays when watching it, you can see the effort and determination he put into it with the close-ups, his expression proves he enjoys doing what he does and I feel showing this is close to what a real media production looks like. The way I developed the video is close to how a real media product would be developed but obviously they would use a lot more skilled equipment such as cameras, locations and software. The software I used is a brilliant software and did exactly what I needed it to do but compared to a real media production they would be to create bits them selves and be able to put them in a video where as I just use default things e.g. Font also they would have better skilled software therefore make better effects, then locations if it was a big budget video they would be able to fly to different countries and different events and finally cameras, the cameras are obviously a lot better when creating real media products and with ours the cameras are just ordinary camcorders which are bought from shops. Overall I feel I did use a lot of the conventions used to form a real media product, by the way I just used a singer, singing into a microphone and just him throughout the song, so really I feel I did not challenge the forms of real media products.
How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts? The combination of my main product and the ancillary texts are very good, because I have tried to use the same features and have the same theme for example, I have used the same font in all of my products and this has a very good outcome because I have created a logo for the whole thing, I created this while publishing my CD cover. Another thing is the dark background I have kept with it, I have used a black background so whatever I put on top of it will show up more and stand out more. Making sure both of them link together is a priority because they boost sales, when someone sees the magazine advert no doubt it will be on their minds so they will want to watch the video, so they bounce of each other, more the ancillary texts bounce off the video, but still the combination of them both give a good background for Granty G.
What have you learned from your audiences feedback?
What have you learned from your audiences feedback? The questions are: Year of Birth and Gender, because I obviously needed to know who I was asking and which gender preferred my video. Do you think the video is suitable for the target audience? I needed to add this question because I feel it’s one of the most important parts of creating the video, so I had to make sure I had reached out to them. Do you think the video portrayed a real music video? I added this question because I wanted to see if people thought it was professional. If no what made it look amateur? I also wanted to know what made it look amateur, so next time it wouldn’t. Would this video make you want to buy the CD? This is also very important because producers and record companies only make videos to sell the single/song so this needed to be buyable. Are there any other videos like this one? This was in there because I felt if it did look like another video then I would want it to be compared to a good video. Is it a memorable video? I felt the video; to be successful would have to be memorable so this is one of the first things I wanted to know. What were the main features? I gave choices in this questions which were Granty G, The Effects or the Scenes. I did this because I wanted to know whether Granty G was a success and to also see whether people liked the effects put into the video. How would you watch the Video? Choices: TV, CD, Internet, Pub or YouTube, then also give the option to write something else if they wanted. I did this because I wanted to know for future reference where people normally watch music videos. If the video come on somewhere, what would you do? Choices: Keep it on, Switch it off, Tell a friend or Ignore it, then the option to write something if they wanted to. I put this in to see the reaction of the audience and see if it is a successful video. If you have any other suggestions... I put this in because I felt if people had something on their chest then they could write it down here.
What have you learned from your audiences feedback? Feedback All the people answering were in the same ages of my target audience, I did make sure of this when I asked because they are who I am focusing on. Mostly they were male gender, 2 being female. 10/10 liked it, which shows that I did reach that target audience. 7/10 people thought it looked professional but when I asked the other 3 people, they just said the quality of the video was not good enough and said that it needed to be recorded with a better camera or something, I am happy about this because that is just showing my work is ok but the camera needs to be better but this was the best camera I had to use. 5/10 said they would buy the CD because they loved Granty G and loved the song, 3 people said they wouldn’t because they don’t pay for songs/videos and the other 2 said they would just watch it if it was on. 2/10 said there are other videos out there like this which is a good thing because I wanted to make it unique, then 8 people said no there wasn’t. 10/10 said that it was a memorable video because mainly from the effects and the personality brought forward from Granty G. For the main features most people said Granty G then the rest said Effects but none for scenes, as I just said I think it’s because Granty G put everything into the video and his personality come out. A majority said they would watch the video on YouTube and the rest either said on TV, CD or at the Pub so this means they would watch it if it come on. Mostly when asked the audience said they would tell a friend when the video came on because they liked the video and liked the song, then after that they said just keep it on. Lastly when I asked if they had any suggestions some people said they thought I needed some to add some more scenes then others said more people but mostly said they enjoyed and keep it up.
How did you use new media technologies in the construction, research, planning and evaluation stages? In the research stage I used new technologies in the way of watching similar texts on YouTube, to gather ideas and more research for the media product. In the construction stage I used probably the most new media technology, I used a software called Adobe Premier Pro to upload, create and edit my final product, I learnt how to do a lot of things on this software such as creating video transitions, video effects and creating titles on their. In the planning stage I gathered new technology knowledge because I was able to use Adobe Photoshop to view photos I had took for my ancillary texts, and see what I could edit on them such as background colour, adding text, changing the brightness etc. And in the evaluation stage I used new technology in the way I am going to put it on slideshare an internet application where they take a PowerPoint presentation then compress it to a video file to then insert on a webpage or blog, for me I am going to use it to put this evaluation on my blog which is another new media technology which I have learned throughout the stages of this production. Overall I feel all these new media technologies have helped me progress to make my media product a lot better.
