New Exhibit Open at cMOE
The Koch Family Children’s Museum of Evansville is proud to announce the opening of their newest exhibit,
Fantastic Plastic. Did you know plastic material can occur naturally in the forms of tree sap and fossilized resin,
animal bones, horns and bees wax? This brand new exhibit tells the story of plastics and their impact on the world
over the last 100 years.
In this fascinating exhibit, children will learn about the often surprising process of manufacturing and recycling
plastics. The will use their ingenuity to crate with recycled plastic at the “Creation Station.” Painting on the 6-foot
clear LEXAN resin panels from SABIC’s Innovative Plastics business will let their imaginations come alive!! There
is fun for all ages at this hands on exhibit. Fantastic Plastic will truly show children how plastics shape our world!
Beat the winter blues and come visit cMOE where our mission is to spark the curious minds and imagination of
children and their families through dynamic exhibits, programs and activities. The museum is located on the
corner of 5th and Locust Streets in Downtown Evansville. For additional information, please visit

Architecture Field Trip
Theatre Arts students took a tour February 28th to some of Evansville’s finest “architectural” secrets. The trip
started off with a visit to the EVSC Administrative Offices and a discussion with Mr. Pat Tuley revealing how the
office building was once a warehouse that was transformed into office spaces.
Next, the trip proceeded onto cMOE where students watched a presentation of the renovation of the Art Deco
building and participated in an Artitude lesson learning about Art Deco architecture. Students also participated in
a scavenger hunt to locate Art Deco artifacts throughout the museum.
The last stop of the day was the Evansville Museum. Students were introduced to the renovations of the
Eykamp Pavilion and the new Koch Immersive Theater, the newest in planetarium technology. The theater
houses a 40-foot diameter domed screen with 360-dgree digital projection and a 10,000 watt surround sound

Pioneer Pride in Action
Congratulations to McGary PTSA for earning the PTSA “Certificate of Excellence” award at the regional awards
banquet in February as well as exceeding our membership from last year by 10% and having 100% teacher
participation!!!
Our staff and students have put together 200 plus comfort and hygiene bags so far this year for the children and
adults that have to utilize Holly’s House.
Our students have made trail mix for the families staying at The Ronald McDonald House so that they may
have a fast and healthy snack that they can grab on the way out the door to St. Mary’s to visit their loved one or
when they are in need of a pick me up upon return from the hospital. Our students have also made “sock inch
worms” to give to the children at the Ronald McDonald House.
Our NJHS and student Council go every second Tuesday of the month to play Bingo with the residents of
Horizon Homes.
The billboard displaying the art work created to advertise the Spring play “Finding Our Way To Holly’s House”
by Melody Weiner has been up for a while. If you haven’t seen it, check it out on Covert Ave. near McDonalds.
We are half way to our goal of the amount of plastic caps needed to make another bench for our school. We are
hoping to be able to have it by summer. Please encourage your student to bring in all of your plastic caps for this
worthy cause.
We will have a Pennies for Patients Drive in April. The student council will lead this fundraiser and it is sure
to be a great homeroom competition.
The Global Youth work day is in April as well. Students who choose to be a part of this group project will clean
up the area around our school and neighborhoods on the chosen Saturday for a couple of hours and then be treated
to lunch, giveaways, games and rides at the YMCA afterward. Twenty McGary students participated last year and
had alot of fun.
Bits and Bites to Keep You in the Know at McGary
Wanna Help Out??
McGary has partnered with Energizing Indiana to offer home energy assessments. A home energy assessment
can help raise your homes performance, lower your energy bills, improve in-home air quality, and increase your
homes value. EVERY McGary family household qualifies for the free home energy assessment!! If your child
receives free or reduced lunch, your home qualifies for an Income Qualified Weatherization for free as well.
For each assessment or weatherization performed, McGary will receive $25 to be used toward student’s needs
within our school.
Enrollment forms have been sent home with students and there is also one attached to this newsletter.
If you have questions, please contact Mrs. Mullen at 476-3035.
Thank you in advance for helping our school!!!

  • 5. APRIL 2014 MCGARY MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWSLETTER Pioneer Pride in Action Congratulations to McGary PTSA for earning the PTSA “Certificate of Excellence” award at the regional awards banquet in February as well as exceeding our membership from last year by 10% and having 100% teacher participation!!! Our staff and students have put together 200 plus comfort and hygiene bags so far this year for the children and adults that have to utilize Holly’s House. Our students have made trail mix for the families staying at The Ronald McDonald House so that they may have a fast and healthy snack that they can grab on the way out the door to St. Mary’s to visit their loved one or when they are in need of a pick me up upon return from the hospital. Our students have also made “sock inch worms” to give to the children at the Ronald McDonald House. Our NJHS and student Council go every second Tuesday of the month to play Bingo with the residents of Horizon Homes. The billboard displaying the art work created to advertise the Spring play “Finding Our Way To Holly’s House” by Melody Weiner has been up for a while. If you haven’t seen it, check it out on Covert Ave. near McDonalds. We are half way to our goal of the amount of plastic caps needed to make another bench for our school. We are hoping to be able to have it by summer. Please encourage your student to bring in all of your plastic caps for this worthy cause. We will have a Pennies for Patients Drive in April. The student council will lead this fundraiser and it is sure to be a great homeroom competition. The Global Youth work day is in April as well. Students who choose to be a part of this group project will clean up the area around our school and neighborhoods on the chosen Saturday for a couple of hours and then be treated to lunch, giveaways, games and rides at the YMCA afterward. Twenty McGary students participated last year and had alot of fun. Bits and Bites to Keep You in the Know at McGary Wanna Help Out??
