THE POETRY READING COMPETITION
The Poetry Reading
Competition is usually held in
Term 2.In 2017 this competition
was held on the last autumn
day. This year the theme for little
poem readers (pupils of 1-4
forms) was“Childhood”. Each
pupil has prepared a poem of
his/her own choice. We must admit that our pupils did their best. Our
children are very talented and hard-working. The winner is
KiraIvanova (3A)!Second place:
EvelinaMiakshykova (1A), third place:
PolinaVasilchuk (4A).Many congratulations to the
winners!
The presentation was judged on the following
criteria:
Diction: clarity of words;
Speed: variety where necessary but always
controlled, fluency;
Volume: variety where appropriate but always clear,
voice projection;
Expression: use of voice to impart meaning, some
facial expression;
Punctuation: effective interpretation of commas,
exclamation, question and quotation
marks;Audience contact: communication skills and appropriate
eye contact.
Here are Great Tips for Reading Poetry Aloud for the next year
participants:
Present yourself well and be attentive. Use good posture. Be
confident and make a direct connection with the audience. Nervous
gestures, poor eye contact with the audience, and lack of poise or
confidence will detract from your score. Relax and be natural. Enjoy
your poem—the judges will notice.Do not act out each word of the
poem. Movement or accents must not detract from the poem’s voice.
You are the vessel of your poem. Let the words of the poem do the

work. Depending on the poem, occasional gestures may be
appropriate, but the line between appropriate and overdone is a thin
one. When uncertain, leave them out. Avoid monotone delivery.
However, too much enthusiasm can make your performance seem
insincere.
World AIDS Day, designated on 1 December every year since
1988, is an international day dedicated to raising awareness of the
AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning
those who have died of the disease. Government and health officials,
non-governmental organizations, and individuals around the world
observe the day, often with education on AIDS prevention and control.
In 2017 the theme of World AIDS Day is “My Health, My Right”.
World AIDS Day is one of the eight official global public health
campaigns marked by the World Health Organization (WHO), along
with World Health Day, World Blood Donor Day, World Immunization
Week, World Tuberculosis Day, World No Tobacco Day, World
Malaria Day and World Hepatitis Day. Maybe one day, with time and

Singing
and music is a great part of my world!
Hi, my name is Anna Kelnik; I study at school
#16. My native town is Grodno. My life is very
interesting because I`m a very active, outgoing and
cheerful person. I have many friends and interests. I
try to take part in all activities and events but my
true passion is music. I`m fond of singing and I`m
never tired of it. I spend much time with my ideal
teacher of singing YekaterinaRodevich. I`m very
grateful for this lessons. It is my favourite time. And
of course I like to sing on the stage during different
school events. Despite I am active and brave, I feel

a little nervous and have butterflies in my stomachbefore every
performance. But after first seconds it`s ok and singing gives me joy and
happiness.
I am always ready and happy to take part in concerts, contests or fests.
The last contest was held in
December, 2017. We have an
opportunity to visit our west
neigbours thanks to exchange
programme. I like our trip to
Poland very much. We went there in
order to take part in War song contest
in Sokulka. The road was long, but
nevertheless we have reached. The
performance was really touching.
Even if we don`t understand Polish
text, the soul of music was the best
translator! We were proud to sing about our soldiers. When the concert
was over the sweet table with candies, cookies and juice has been
organizedfor all participants. We have got acquainted and have become
friends with Polish pupils. We successfully tried to communicate in
English and partly understood Polish. Before driving off we went to the
shop to buy Polish sweets and souvenirs. On the way home we shared
impressions about a competition, sang different songs. Everything was
fantastic!
Handicraft is fantastic. Try it and enjoy!
Hello, everybody! My name`s
NastyaSokolenko. People say that I`m smart,
intelligent and friendly, but a little bit shy. Maybe
it`s true. I`m not talkative, I like to concentrate on
things that I`m doing at the moment and to do all
my best.I`m a pupil of Grodno school #16.I really
think that my school
is the best. Most of
people think that

knowledge here, teachers are friendly and caring, they are really interested
to help us, especially if they see that we are keen on learning new things.
Now it`s hot time for me. I`m preparing for the HandycraftContest (in
labour training) under the guidance of Tatiana Vitalievna. She is so
talented and she always do her best teaching me.
I was keen on handmade things from my early childhood. I like to
knit, sew, make leather things, work with beads. It`s a perfect hobby after
school headwork. You can relax, make things according to your fantasy,
give your handmade things as a present.I`m really into it! If I want to find
some new info about my hobby, I can watch master classes on
YouTube. Now I am concentrated on beading. It's almost irresistible.
You've learned the basic stitch and worked about two to three dozen rows
on a beadwork piece. Now you're addicted! So, you're off to the store to
load up on beads, and buy packages until you have one of each.Next come
storage containers, a work bench, all the accessories such as thread,
needles, accent beads, wire, a bit of chain, maybe a few crystals, and a few
other thousand beautiful bits you must have. And what about you? You
are welcome to write about your hobby, about your world! Join our team of
young journalists! I wish you all to find an interesting hobby, It` s really
can help you to feel happiness and joy, to rest from your daily routine, to
find friends with the same interests!

The first visitors of sports and game room "Island of Happiness" were
pupilsof our school.
- Pupils of various physical abilities are studying here and watching the
children we have come to the conclusion that during the game between
kids erases all the differences - says the school director Natalia
LeonidovnaSachevko.
- Thus was born the idea of creating a special sports-gaming
space. In February, we filed an application for participation in the
national contest of social projects «Social Weekend”. Our victory made
possible the implementation of the plan.
It took quite a bit of time to realize the idea. Today, in the games room
there is a dry pool filled with balls, trampoline, various massage tracks,
the Swedish climbing frame with hanging ladders, rings and ropes.
- Belarusian Peace Foundation support our project which provided
funding for the further development of material base of sports games
space - continues N.L.Sachevko. - Its platform will be used for
pupilsrehabilitative training with their special educated teacher and
psychologist. We also hope that the "Island of Happiness" will be the spot
for meeting neighborhood families in which children are brought up with
some disabilities.
If you want to be a guest of "Island of happiness" warn about your visit,
call us. Game room doors will be open not only during the school week,
but on the sixth school day on Saturdays.

Looking for some cool and easy recipes
for teens to make at home? Do you love
to cook? A lot of teens do, and a lot of
teens are teenager master chefs at

then kudos to you! But if you are also
one of the teens who are still learning
this new skill, then keep it up and don’t
settle. Cooking, just like life is a constant learning curve. Cooking is
one of the best skills that you and your family in the future will treasure
about you. If your Mom is the best chef in the world, then just imagine
how you would be viewed by your kids in the futureif you too master this
skill. And also, if you know how to cook, you won’t starve!!!
Build The Perfect Lunch!
At lunchtime we have to eat “a wheat, a meat, a lot of vegetables and a
treat!”For the “wheat,” choose a serving of whole grain bread and for “a
meat,” try one serving of a lean protein, like turkey or chicken. Try combining
the two into a sandwich or wrap. The third part of your lunch should be a
“treat,” like sweet grape or baked potato chips or pretzels. Allow yourself one
“treat” a day. It's OK if it doesn’t have a ton of nutritional value—just try to
keep your treat under control!

According to tradition the Guard of Honor of Leninsky district is
updated each three month. So all schools of the city have an
opportunity to take up the Post number 1 at the Eternal Flame in the
Zhiliber`s park every two years.
On Saturday, December 9, pupils of our school and schools № 2
and № 36 have have solemnly taken the oath. During the meeting in
the center of creativity young men and girls solemnly promised to
honor memory, glory, courage and heroism of the fallen for liberation
of Grodno. After that they have gone to memory guard to the Eternal
Flame.
They gather in remembrance and recognition of the brave men and
women who made the ultimate sacrifice for their nation, country and
town. As we honor their legacies, we also grieve with the family and
friends left behind. Each name inscribed on this monument represents
the heroism of those who lost their lives trying to help others
defending out Motherland. They represent the best of us and their
courage will not be forgotten.

HowShouldWeCelebrateThe NewYear
Every New Year is a time of hopes, positive changes and fulfillment of
desires. As the main fortune of the next year depends on the menu, home
decorations, and of course, the New Year eve’s outfit, dishes, decoration
and preparation for this celebration deserves all the attention.
2018 will be the year of the Dog, who is either yellow or brown,
depending on the land he comes from. This dog is male, and he is the Earth
dog — specifically from the mountains, symbolized by two peaks, side by
side. He is a pack animal, loyal and loving, who occasionally likes to run
off on his own.
After 2017, the Year of the Red Fire Rooster, characterized by whims,
eccentricities, and a fight for pecking, the Year of the Yellow/Brown
Mountain Dog has the potential to be filled with more dialog, solidarity and
cooperation.
There is, however, strong and brave dog, which could lead to dogfights,
and the pack thing, which could lead to small, tightly-knit social groups
squaring off against one another.
But, if the world avoids the bad behavior, it might be a year of new
philosophies of brotherhood, large-scale industrial projects that are good for
the environment, and policies of empathy and social justice.
It all depends on you. You have to keep that Male Mountain Dog happy
on New Year’s Eve.
Big Break, № 3, 2017
23
How to Decorate
The Yellow Dog is a simple creature, not fond of
extravagant decorations in his dog burrow. He prefers
something refined and tasteful — a nicely decorated
tree, a few garlands, and some fairy lights. Be sure the
color highlights are yellow, orange and gold. He may
not like to eat citrus fruit, but he apparently appreciates
a well-decorated table with tangerine accents. One
source suggests making a table arrangement out of bones to make the dog
happy. Good luck explaining that to your Granny.
To keep Dog happy, it’s important to take down and put away all images
of felines. If you have a live feline, lock him in the closet until the night is
over.
Where and How to Celebrate
The Yellow Dog is a pack animal, so you
need to see in the new year in a pack: in a big
family group, with your friends and neighbors,
at a party, in parks, or at street festivals. If you
celebrate at home, keep it lively. Dogs like to
play, so make sure there are games, dancing,
running around, and general merriment. Lifting
fork to mouth and pressing buttons on the
remote are insufficient activity.
But since dogs — especially male dogs, and most especially male
mountain dogs — like to roam, be sure to break away from your pack for a
half hour or so. Go outside and walk around, breath in some fresh air.

The year of the dog is coming: Lucky outfit for
2018 New Year’s Eve
Lucky colors to wear in 2018
The year 2018 belongs to the Yellow
Earthen Dog. Therefore, yellow, black and
brown are the main colors of 2018. The
shades of these colors, for example, sand,
olive, golden, coffee, ocher, khakiare also in
priority. White, cream or milk is neutral for
this Dog. The dog is positive and playful
naturally. In the first place, the symbol of the
coming year is sincerity and benevolence. Therefore, do not spend a lot
of money on the New Year's clothes. The main thing is that clothes
should be chosen with taste. Both men and women should dress in
Yellow Earthen Dog colors. But women can also
wear a little black dress with yellow accessories.
And if men need to dress more formally, they
might consider velvet, presumably in honor of
dog’s velvety ears. Do not, under any
circumstances, wear animal print dresses, shirts or
pants. Zebra and giraffe prints are out, and don’t
even think of wearing a leopard print.
What to Eat
Like almost all dogs, and certainly like all
mountain dogs, the Yellow Earth Dog will
eat anything and everything. He doesn’t
know when to stop, so have lots of food on
the table. And make sure there is more
meat than vegetables. If you are a
vegetarian or have vegetarian friends,
make a dish with soy meat at least.
Really. The owner of this year respects
economy and rationality therefore
hedoesn't welcome refined expensive
dishes. Typical meals in China include
Big Break, № 3, 2017
25
kebabs, roasted fish and noodles topped with stir-fried meat. Noodles
and dumplings dominate in Chinese menu, along with smoky
barbecue dishes. But we have to adapt this menu to our habits,
possibilities and reality.
We can cook:
- meat dishes – cutlets, chops, meatballs, French meat and so on,
- meat on a bone – chicken legs, pork or mutton ribs,
- variousmeat and fish salads, including traditional Olivier,
- fruit and fresh vegetables.
- natural juice. Pastries and desserts – cookies in the form of doggies or
sugar bones.
New Year's Eve Don’ts and superstitions
In addition to all the year-specific dos and
don’ts, we have a huge list of superstitions
on how to celebrate the New Year. The
main principle is: the way you meet the
new year is the way you will spend it. Here
are the main prohibitions:
Don't let your pockets be empty on New
Year's Eve since it may be a sign of very
low or no income in the year to come.
Don’t just celebrate with ladies, or there
won’t be any men in your life.
Don’t serve crayfish, crab, lobster, or any fowl — the sea creatures
move backwards and chickens and other birds scratch the earth
backwards. That will keep you in the past and unable to move forward.
Don’t lend or borrow money.
Big Break, № 3, 2017
26
Don’t break any plates; if you do,
carefully gather up all the pieces and
bury together far away from your
house.
Don’t quarrel or fight.
Don’t take out the garbage after 6
p.m.
Don’t think of anything bad.
Don’t tidy up. Do all your cleaning
before the 31st.
Don’t celebrate it alone.
Got it? Have a wonderful, safe, fun
New Year’s celebration. And keep the
dog happy!

  • 2. Big Break, № 3, 2017 2 THE POETRY READING COMPETITION The Poetry Reading Competition is usually held in Term 2.In 2017 this competition was held on the last autumn day. This year the theme for little poem readers (pupils of 1-4 forms) was“Childhood”. Each pupil has prepared a poem of his/her own choice. We must admit that our pupils did their best. Our children are very talented and hard-working. The winner is KiraIvanova (3A)!Second place: EvelinaMiakshykova (1A), third place: PolinaVasilchuk (4A).Many congratulations to the winners! The presentation was judged on the following criteria: Diction: clarity of words; Speed: variety where necessary but always controlled, fluency; Volume: variety where appropriate but always clear, voice projection; Expression: use of voice to impart meaning, some facial expression; Punctuation: effective interpretation of commas, exclamation, question and quotation marks;Audience contact: communication skills and appropriate eye contact. Here are Great Tips for Reading Poetry Aloud for the next year participants: Present yourself well and be attentive. Use good posture. Be confident and make a direct connection with the audience. Nervous gestures, poor eye contact with the audience, and lack of poise or confidence will detract from your score. Relax and be natural. Enjoy your poem—the judges will notice.Do not act out each word of the poem. Movement or accents must not detract from the poem’s voice. You are the vessel of your poem. Let the words of the poem do the

Avoid monotone delivery. However, too much enthusiasm can make your performance seem insincere. World AIDS Day, designated on 1 December every year since 1988, is an international day dedicated to raising awareness of the AIDS pandemic caused by the spread of HIV infection and mourning those who have died of the disease. Government and health officials, non-governmental organizations, and individuals around the world observe the day, often with education on AIDS prevention and control. In 2017 the theme of World AIDS Day is “My Health, My Right”. World AIDS Day is one of the eight official global public health campaigns marked by the World Health Organization (WHO), along with World Health Day, World Blood Donor Day, World Immunization Week, World Tuberculosis Day, World No Tobacco Day, World Malaria Day and World Hepatitis Day. I am always ready and happy to take part in concerts, contests or fests. The last contest was held in December, 2017. We have an opportunity to visit our west neigbours thanks to exchange programme. I like our trip to Poland very much. We went there in order to take part in War song contest in Sokulka. The road was long, but nevertheless we have reached. The performance was really touching. Even if we don`t understand Polish text, the soul of music was the best translator! We were proud to sing about our soldiers. When the concert was over the sweet table with candies, cookies and juice has been organizedfor all participants. We have got acquainted and have become friends with Polish pupils. We successfully tried to communicate in English and partly understood Polish. Before driving off we went to the shop to buy Polish sweets and souvenirs. On the way home we shared impressions about a competition, sang different songs. Everything was fantastic! Handicraft is fantastic. Try it and enjoy! Hello, everybody! My name`s NastyaSokolenko. In February, we filed an application for participation in the national contest of social projects «Social Weekend”. Our victory made possible the implementation of the plan. It took quite a bit of time to realize the idea. Today, in the games room there is a dry pool filled with balls, trampoline, various massage tracks, the Swedish climbing frame with hanging ladders, rings and ropes. - Belarusian Peace Foundation support our project which provided funding for the further development of material base of sports games space - continues N.L.Sachevko. - Its platform will be used for pupilsrehabilitative training with their special educated teacher and psychologist. We also hope that the "Island of Happiness" will be the spot for meeting neighborhood families in which children are brought up with some disabilities. If you want to be a guest of "Island of happiness" warn about your visit, call us. Game room doors will be open not only during the school week, but on the sixth school day on Saturdays.

  • 22. Big Break, № 3, 2017 22 HowShouldWeCelebrateThe NewYear Every New Year is a time of hopes, positive changes and fulfillment of desires. As the main fortune of the next year depends on the menu, home decorations, and of course, the New Year eve’s outfit, dishes, decoration and preparation for this celebration deserves all the attention. 2018 will be the year of the Dog, who is either yellow or brown, depending on the land he comes from. This dog is male, and he is the Earth dog — specifically from the mountains, symbolized by two peaks, side by side. He is a pack animal, loyal and loving, who occasionally likes to run off on his own. After 2017, the Year of the Red Fire Rooster, characterized by whims, eccentricities, and a fight for pecking, the Year of the Yellow/Brown Mountain Dog has the potential to be filled with more dialog, solidarity and cooperation. There is, however, strong and brave dog, which could lead to dogfights, and the pack thing, which could lead to small, tightly-knit social groups squaring off against one another. But, if the world avoids the bad behavior, it might be a year of new philosophies of brotherhood, large-scale industrial projects that are good for the environment, and policies of empathy and social justice. It all depends on you. You have to keep that Male Mountain Dog happy on New Year’s Eve.
  • 23. Big Break, № 3, 2017 23 How to Decorate The Yellow Dog is a simple creature, not fond of extravagant decorations in his dog burrow. He prefers something refined and tasteful — a nicely decorated tree, a few garlands, and some fairy lights. Be sure the color highlights are yellow, orange and gold. He may not like to eat citrus fruit, but he apparently appreciates a well-decorated table with tangerine accents. One source suggests making a table arrangement out of bones to make the dog happy. Good luck explaining that to your Granny. To keep Dog happy, it’s important to take down and put away all images of felines. If you have a live feline, lock him in the closet until the night is over. Where and How to Celebrate The Yellow Dog is a pack animal, so you need to see in the new year in a pack: in a big family group, with your friends and neighbors, at a party, in parks, or at street festivals. If you celebrate at home, keep it lively. Dogs like to play, so make sure there are games, dancing, running around, and general merriment. Lifting fork to mouth and pressing buttons on the remote are insufficient activity. But since dogs — especially male dogs, and most especially male mountain dogs — like to roam, be sure to break away from your pack for a half hour or so. Go outside and walk around, breath in some fresh air.
  • 24. Big Break, № 3, 2017 24 The year of the dog is coming: Lucky outfit for 2018 New Year’s Eve Lucky colors to wear in 2018 The year 2018 belongs to the Yellow Earthen Dog. Therefore, yellow, black and brown are the main colors of 2018. The shades of these colors, for example, sand, olive, golden, coffee, ocher, khakiare also in priority. White, cream or milk is neutral for this Dog. The dog is positive and playful naturally. In the first place, the symbol of the coming year is sincerity and benevolence. Therefore, do not spend a lot of money on the New Year's clothes. The main thing is that clothes should be chosen with taste. Both men and women should dress in Yellow Earthen Dog colors. But women can also wear a little black dress with yellow accessories. And if men need to dress more formally, they might consider velvet, presumably in honor of dog’s velvety ears. Do not, under any circumstances, wear animal print dresses, shirts or pants. Zebra and giraffe prints are out, and don’t even think of wearing a leopard print. What to Eat Like almost all dogs, and certainly like all mountain dogs, the Yellow Earth Dog will eat anything and everything. He doesn’t know when to stop, so have lots of food on the table. And make sure there is more meat than vegetables. If you are a vegetarian or have vegetarian friends, make a dish with soy meat at least. Really. The owner of this year respects economy and rationality therefore hedoesn't welcome refined expensive dishes. Typical meals in China include
  • 25. Big Break, № 3, 2017 25 kebabs, roasted fish and noodles topped with stir-fried meat. Noodles and dumplings dominate in Chinese menu, along with smoky barbecue dishes. But we have to adapt this menu to our habits, possibilities and reality. We can cook: - meat dishes – cutlets, chops, meatballs, French meat and so on, - meat on a bone – chicken legs, pork or mutton ribs, - variousmeat and fish salads, including traditional Olivier, - fruit and fresh vegetables. - natural juice. Pastries and desserts – cookies in the form of doggies or sugar bones. New Year's Eve Don’ts and superstitions In addition to all the year-specific dos and don’ts, we have a huge list of superstitions on how to celebrate the New Year. The main principle is: the way you meet the new year is the way you will spend it. Here are the main prohibitions: Don't let your pockets be empty on New Year's Eve since it may be a sign of very low or no income in the year to come. Don’t just celebrate with ladies, or there won’t be any men in your life. Don’t serve crayfish, crab, lobster, or any fowl — the sea creatures move backwards and chickens and other birds scratch the earth backwards. That will keep you in the past and unable to move forward. Don’t lend or borrow money.
  • 26. Big Break, № 3, 2017 26 Don’t break any plates; if you do, carefully gather up all the pieces and bury together far away from your house. Don’t quarrel or fight. Don’t take out the garbage after 6 p.m. Don’t think of anything bad. Don’t tidy up. Do all your cleaning before the 31st. Don’t celebrate it alone. Got it? Have a wonderful, safe, fun New Year’s celebration. And keep the dog happy!
