On Friday 20th January we were delighted to welcome back Former Pupils Jamie Underwood, Li-Sian Song and James Stewart, who are now in S6 at James Gillespie's High School and preparing for a visit to twinned schools in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa in February. They have asked pupils to donate pencil cases, toys, games and clothes which can be handed into the School Office until Friday 2nd February.
Mr Howie gave an inspirational presentation on how Elizabeth Eckford, one of the Arkansas Little Rock Nine, successfully managed her emotions and response to the extreme prejudice and racist hostility she endured in 1957, just for going to school. Her remarkable dignity is an example to us all and linked very effectively to school use of 'Emotions Talk' as a support for pupils in managing their emotions. Mr Howie encouraged everyone to learn not only from role models in history but also from people around us in how we manage our emotions and stand up for what we value. We all certainly look to Mr Howie to inspire and encourage us with his engaging and deeply thought-provoking presentations, taking powerful lessons we can all learn from History and relating them to our school.
We thanked Sciennes' parent, Mr Colin Sim, who as well as recently securing £5500 for digital learning through funding applications also secured a grant of £2000 from South Central Edinburgh Neighbourhood Partnership to enhance our school grounds. There is great interest from the children in the willow structures currently being installed in the playground by Gus and his team from 'Earth Calling'.
A Hangouts on air alkalmazás használatával új lehetőségek nyílnak meg mindenki számára.

Do The Green Thing Social Media MetricsAndrew Sleigh
At Do The Green Thing, we spend a lot of time finding the best inspiring Green Things, and sharing them with you on our website, Facebook page, in our monthly emails and on Twitter. We love to hear what you think, and naturally, we're also keen to know if we're helping you to Do The Green Thing.
We track the numbers for all our digital presences to see how many people we reach, and how interesting you find us. There are a lot of numbers to collect, and it's not always obvious what they mean, or whether they're useful. So we've been doing some work recently to come up with a simple system to collect data from all the different sources (our email software, Facebook, Twitter and so on), combine it, and give us some monthly indicators of how well we're doing.
We've posted up a slideshow here that shows how our system works, what assumptions we're making, and what we get out of it. And we're sharing it for two reasons:
1. If you're involved in something a bit like Do The Green Thing, you might find it useful as a model for measuring your own success. You'll likely have to tailor it to fit your circumstances and objectives, but it might provide a useful starting point
2. We'd love to get your feedback on whether you think this is a good model, and how you would improve it.
So please let us know what you think, and if you find it useful. Thanks.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
The Art Pastor's Guide to Sabbath | Steve ThomasonSteve Thomason
What is the purpose of the Sabbath Law in the Torah. It is interesting to compare how the context of the law shifts from Exodus to Deuteronomy. Who gets to rest, and why?
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

FOBISSEA Performing Arts Carnival 2012
On 22nd March, 22 children from TX and AP1 departed for the annual FOBISSEA Primary
Performing Arts Carnival, hosted by BIS Jakarta. 15 schools and 270 children from all over
South East Asia took part in the event where each child was in either a choir, orchestra, dance or
drama group and all performed in a celebratory concert on the final day. Over the four days,
children also got to participate in various workshops, including an opportunity to make their own
traditional Angklung instruments and take part in the first FOBISSEA Angklung ensemble,
which was a real highlight.
The trip was a huge success and the children were a credit to our school. It was a wonderful
opportunity for this talented bunch of children, one which I hope will have enriched their lives
and learning at BIS for many years to come.
This morning, in assembly, the children who attended the trip demonstrated a beautiful piece
which they performed in Jakarta. Well done—the performance was excellent!

3. EYFS Easter Bonnet Parade
School Event
The Spring time celebration of Easter celebrates new life usually represented by eggs, chicks, rabbits and spring
flowers.
Traditionally new clothes were bought or made for Easter time and an Easter bonnet or old hats were decorated
to make them look new again.
Over the Easter break the EYFS children created an Easter hat at home. On Wednesday morning the EYFS
children paraded along the MP1 corridor for Year 1 and 2 and then down the stairs to show their wonderful
creations to parents in the foyer. F3 children loved singing the spring chicken song and all the children joined in
together to sing the song ‘Little Peter Rabbit’.
Thank you to all the children and parents for making such a great effort to create some fabulous Easter hats.

4. Community
On Monday the kids in the Eco Team were treated to a visit by Ms
Bao Hanh from the University of Natural Resources and the
Environment.
She talked all about the 3Rs: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.
REDUCE: Using less
REUSE: Using things more than once
RECYCLE: Turning waste items into something else.
We learned that waste is sometimes burned, which can lead to
pollution.
It is also dumped in rubbish dumps where it can take a very long
to rot and decompose.
Paper - 3 weeks and 2 months
Plastic - more than 500 years
Glass - about 8000 years!
In Vietnam, to recycle we give our card, plastic and aluminium to the
Ve Chai (the ladies who collect it on bicycles). They then sell it to big
collectors who finally sell it to the recycling factories who turn it into
something new. Make sure that you separate your recycling from
your rubbish at home.
On Sunday 15th April at the Labour Culture Palace, 55B Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, District 1 the annual Waste
Recycling Festival will be held. Amongst other activities you can exchange your recyclable goods for gifts, take
part in 3Rs games or decorate your own paper bags.

Did you know that this month is ‘Eco Friendly bag Month’ in HCMC? Coop, Big C and Lottemart will give you
discounts or gifts if you bring your own bags.
