The document discusses information systems and their components. It states that information systems integrate various components like data collection, storage, processing and delivery of information. It then discusses how businesses, governments and individuals rely on information systems to carry out operations and interact with others. Some key points made include how corporations use information systems for marketing, finance and HR functions while governments use it to provide efficient public services. It also discusses different types of information like statistical, tactical and operational, as well as resources required for information systems like hardware, software, data, networks and people.

Changes made by Information Technology (IT) in our SocietyJigyasa Singh
It would be ungrateful on our part not to recognize how immense the boons are which modern technology has given to mankind. Can we think of living without computers, mobile phones, electricity or modern methods of publishing? We all know the impact of technology in medical science & education system on us.
This presentation was part of the learn and share events held across the country in March, 2014.

2. Information System
• An integrated set of components for collecting, storing, and
processing data and for delivering information, knowledge,
and digital products.
• Business firms and other organizations rely on information
systems to carry out and manage their operations, interact with
their customers and suppliers, and compete in the marketplace.
• For instance, corporations use information systems to reach
their potential customers with targeted messages over the Web,
to process financial accounts, and to manage their human
resources. Governments deploy information systems to
provide services cost-effectively to citizens.
3. cont..
• Digital goods, such as electronic books and software,
and online services, such as auctions and social
networking, are delivered with information systems.
Individuals rely on information systems, generally
Internet-based, for conducting much of their personal
lives: for socializing, study, shopping, banking, and
entertainment.
4. Classification of Information
The purpose of classification is to protect information. Higher
classifications protect information that might endanger national security.
Classification formalises what constitutes a "state secret" and accords
different levels of protection based on the expected damage the information
might cause in the wrong hands.
Typical classification levels:-
1. Top Secret
2. Secret
3. Confidential
4. Restricted
5. Unclassified
6. Clearance

5. Types of Information
• Statical /Strategic:- Information that are requires by
managers. This is related to long term planning of
organization.
Example- launching of new product
• Tactical:- This is for short term planning and is used at
management control level. Example- sales analysis or financial
statements.
• Operational:- It may vary from time to time or days to days
and is considered as short period (immediate action). It is
generally used by decision maker at organization level.
Example- the current stocks in hand, orders etc.

7. Benefits of Information System
• Globalization - IT has not only brought the world closer together, but it has allowed
the world's economy to become a single interdependent system. This means that we
can not only share information quickly and efficiently, but we can also bring down
barriers of geographic boundaries.
• Communication - With the help of IT, communication has also become cheaper,
quicker, and more efficient. We can now communicate with anyone around the globe
by simply text messaging them or sending them an email for an almost
instantaneous response. The internet has also opened up face to face direct
communication from different parts of the world thanks to the helps of video
conferencing.
• Cost effectiveness – IT has helped to computerize the business process thus
streamlining businesses to make them extremely cost effective money making
machines. This in turn increases productivity which ultimately gives rise to profits.
8. Cont..
• Bridging the cultural gap - IT has helped to bridge the cultural gap
by helping people from different cultures to communicate with one
another, and allow for the exchange of views and ideas, thus
increasing awareness and reducing prejudice.
• More time - IT has made it possible for businesses to be open 24 x7
all over the globe. This means that a business can be open anytime
anywhere, making purchases from different countries easier and
more convenient. It also means that you can have your goods
delivered right to your doorstep.
• Creation of new jobs - Probably the best advantage of IT is the
creation of new and interesting jobs. Computer programmers,
Systems analyzers, Hardware and Software developers and Web
designers are just some of the many new employment opportunities
created with the help of IT.
9. Disadvantages
• Unemployment - While IT may have streamlined the business process it has also
crated job redundancies, downsizing and outsourcing. This means that a lot of
lower and middle level jobs have been done away with causing more people to
become unemployed.
• Privacy - Though IT may have made communication quicker, easier and more
convenient, it has also bought along privacy issues. From cell phone signal
interceptions to email hacking, people are now worried about their once private
information becoming public knowledge.
• Lack of job security - Industry experts believe that the internet has made job
security a big issue as since technology keeps on changing with each day. This
means that one has to be in a constant learning mode, if he or she wishes for their
job to be secure.
• Dominant culture - While IT may have made the world a global village, it has
also contributed to one culture dominating another weaker one. For example it is
now argued that US influences how most young teenagers all over the world now
act, dress and behave. Languages too have become overshadowed, with English
becoming the primary mode of communication for business and everything else.
10. Information Quality
1. Timeliness:- within time frame.
2. Accuracy:- All accurate information, free from errors.
3. Relivance: When it specifies all answers like when, why,
what, where, how etc
4. Adequacy:- Information which is relevant, accurate but not
complete.
5. Completeness:- All required information
6. Explicitness:- No further analysis can be done.
7. Exception based:- Free from errors.
