 Cranes & Hoists are overhead Devices used for moving
Varying loads intermittently within a limited area.
 Bridge cranes, monorail cranes, & hoists are examples of
this basic equipment type.

8. Advantages and Disadvantages of Crane
and Hoists
Advantages:
1. Lifting as well as transferring of
material is possible
2. Interference with the work on
the floor is minimized
3. Cranes & hoists are capable of
handling heavy loads
Disadvantages:
1. They require heavy investment.
2. They serve a limited area only.
3. Some cranes move only in
straight line & thus can not
make turns.
4. An operator has to be available
for operating some types, such
as bridge cranes

9. Industrial Trucks
Industrial trucks are used to move materials over variable paths
and when there is insufficient (or intermittent) flow volume such
that the use of a conveyor cannot be justified.
They provide more flexibility in movement than conveyors and
cranes.
