Marxism views international relations through the lens of class struggle under capitalism. It sees the anarchic state system as a result of capitalism, not an inherent feature. Imperialism, the highest stage of capitalism, is characterized by monopolies, finance capital, and the division of the world among major powers to extract resources and markets. Lenin analyzed international relations in terms of the continuous accumulation of wealth by international capitalist actors through imperialism. Marxism shares similarities with realism in its perspective of great powers conquering other nations for economic and security interests during the colonial period.
Western Intellectual Insights for Muslim Policy Makers on Religion Based EconomyMohammad Manzoor Malik
The subject of relationship between religion and
economy raises many issues. It touches the originality of
religion and economy and their nature of relationship including
their independence and dependence. Western scholarship on
the subject has useful insights for the Muslim policy makers on
religion based economy. This research undertakes Marx and
Weber’s thought on the subject and relates the issue with the
current reality in industrialized countries such as Singapore.
The findings show that Marx is a reductionist and Weber’s
thesis highlights the independent role of religion in fostering
economy although he remains pessimistic regarding its
religiosity. The more plausible view is that though religion is an
independent variable, yet there is interdependence between
religion and economy. The economical modalities influence
religious life in many ways. This challenge calls Muslim policy
makers for a continuous intellectual effort in making creative
contributions in making religion based economy possible.
Theoretical Underpinnings of European Unioniosrjce
The aftermath of Second World War offered a prospect of utter misery and desolation. Europeans felt
hopeless and exhausted. The objective of peace went hand in hand with desire to ensure that Europe was able to
get back on its feet economically after 1945. The proponents of European integration advanced theories for
integration that involved gradual surrendering of sovereignty to a supranational entity. The ECSC was the first
step towards European Union. The post 1945, regionalism emerged out of gradual process of integration from a
six member organization to today 27 members European Union; from an inter-governmental organization to a
supranational entity. The paper looks at the theoretical framework of European integration

Pessimism of the Intellect, Pessimism of the
Will? A Response to Gunder Frank*
Henry Bernstein and Howard Nicholas
The contribution of the work of Andre Cunder Frank to debates
about the nature of Third World ‘underdevelopment’ over the past
twenty years is well known, and its significance widely acknow-
ledged. The arguments that he has consistently put forward have
been assimilated into the broad mainstream of contemporary anti-
imperialist ideology. Also well known are a number of criticisms of
the approach of Frank and other writers of the ‘dependency’
school. The extension of Frank’s influential version of dependency
theory to the current recession in the world economy and its effects
for the Third World, provides an opportunity to reconsider his
position, with particular reference to its political and ideological
implications. This is the principal focus of our response, which we
begin with a brief resume of Frank’s main theses and of criticisms
of their theoretical and methodological bases.
FRANK’S THESIS A N D ITS CRITIQUE
The following points summarize the main themes and conclusions
of Frank’s argument.
1 . Frank’s theory is concerned, above all, with the distribution of
the surplus product (or ‘economic surplus’, Frank 1975) between

countries or groups of countries. National economies compete to
maximize surplus appropriation, and the extent to which they are
able t o d o so rests on their possession (or lack of possession) of
certain types of monopoly power in international economic
relations. Successful surplus appropriation is the key condition
of accumulation and hence development, although other factors
also have a role, for example, adequate levels of effective
demand and technical change.
2. While all countries were originally ‘undeveloped’. the advanced
capitalist countries (DCs) were able t o achieve a path of
(‘normal’) capitalist development denied to the countries of the
Third World (UDCs). The two categories can be grouped in
terms of ‘metropole’ and ‘satellite’ or ‘centre’ and ‘periphery’.
3. The UDCs were actively underdeveloped as a consequence of
their forced integration with the capitalist world economy,
through which they became exporters of primary products (and
also sources of effective demand for exports from the DCs). The
economies of UDCs are locked into a structural relation of
dependence on those of the DCs, whose reproduction needs they
are compelled to satisfy. This occurs through a variety of
mechanisms - international trade (unequal exchange), invest-
ment, aid, technology transfer, transfer pricing etc. - the result
of which is a ‘drain’ of surplus from UDCs t o DCs, thereby
restricting the accum ...

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

2. Marxismo
Parte del reconocimiento del estado anárquico de la arena
política internacional
a complete interpretation of the Marxist concept shows us
that anarchy was more than a simple “feature of the
economy” It is actually “a constitutive social form- as
central to Marx’s overall conception of capitalist
modernity.” Although Marx understood anarchy as a basic
feature of IR as the result of that capitalism has had on the
international arena (Rosemberg), and not as an intrinsic
feature of IR, Rosemberg’s thesis helps to understand the
application of Marxism in IR.
3. Lucha de Clases
Su comprensión de las relaciones internacionales se centran en el Concepto de
lucha de clases del Capitalismo
The Highest Stage of Capitalism. Imperialism was described by Lenin as "(1)
the concentration of production and capital has developed to such a high stage
that it has created monopolies which play a decisive role in economic life; (2)
the merging of bank capital with industrial capital, and the creation, on the
basis of this "finance capital", of a financial oligarchy; (3) the export of capital
as distinguished from the export of commodities acquires exceptional
importance; (4) the formation of international monopolist capitalist
associations which share the world among themselves, and (5) the territorial
division of the whole world among the biggest capitalist powers is completed.
Imperialism is capitalism at that stage of development at which the dominance
of monopolies and finance capital is established; in which the export of capital
has acquired pronounced importance; in which the division of the world
among the international trusts has begun, in which the division of all
territories of the globe among the biggest capitalist powers has been
completed."
4. Marxismo
capitalistas internacionales
5. Marxism and Realism
This likeness between Realism and Marxism is pointed out by
James Railey when describing Lenin´s opinion regarding
Imperialism and when quoting Michael Doyle on
“(…)“Imperialism, as Thucydides had long before explained, was
a rational strategy to enhance security, prestige, and interests
(trade, population, territory, resources) when the costs of
conquest were less than the gain.” So, during the expansion of
colonialism this perspective could explain the reasoning behind
why states invaded and controlled other state’s resources by
coercive means. The capitalist states have the means to subject
foreign nations to their rule; hence, capitalist states may bolster
their national economy’s interests and extend the capabilities of
their power.” Railey´s description of Marxism could perfectly be
used to describe Realism applied in the context of the nineteen
century.
