Marijuana Legalization Persuasive Essay
Crafting a persuasive essay on the topic of marijuana legalization can be a challenging endeavor
due to the multifaceted nature of the subject. The issue of marijuana legalization involves a
complex interplay of social, economic, medical, and legal aspects, requiring a nuanced approach
to present a compelling argument.
To begin with, extensive research is crucial to understand the historical context, current legal
frameworks, and the impact of marijuana use on individuals and society. Gathering relevant data
and statistics adds credibility to the essay and enhances the persuasive appeal. However,
navigating through the vast amount of information available and selecting reliable sources can be
time-consuming and demanding.
Moreover, the writer must strike a delicate balance in addressing both sides of the argument.
Recognizing the concerns of opponents and providing well-reasoned counterarguments is
essential for building a strong persuasive case. This requires a deep understanding of the various
perspectives surrounding marijuana legalization, including ethical, health-related, and socio-
economic considerations.
The challenge also lies in organizing the essay coherently, ensuring a logical flow of ideas that
progressively build the persuasive argument. Crafting a compelling introduction, developing
well-structured body paragraphs, and delivering a memorable conclusion all demand careful
planning and meticulous attention to detail.
Furthermore, the writer must be adept at utilizing persuasive language and rhetorical techniques
to engage the audience effectively. Balancing emotional appeals with logical reasoning is key to
creating a convincing essay that resonates with readers.
In conclusion, writing a persuasive essay on marijuana legalization is a complex task that requires
in-depth research, a nuanced understanding of the topic, and skillful use of persuasive
techniques. It demands time, effort, and a commitment to presenting a well-rounded argument
that considers diverse perspectives. For those seeking assistance with similar essays or other
writing tasks, professional services like HelpWriting.net offer support and expertise in crafting

Master Status Is A Term For Human Science
Master Status Master status is a term in human science used to portray the status of
most noteworthy significance in a specific individual s life. This can be in view of
any status, for example, your sex, ethnicity, skin tone, physical and emotional well
being or capacity, financial status, sexual introduction, religious or profound
custom, job status, occupation, or family obligation. Master status is a sort of
name that may be given to you by others you experience on the planet, or it might
be the status that you by and by feel is generally imperative. It could be a piece of
you that is first clear to others when they meet you or it could be a component to
your personality that others would not understand essentially by taking a glimpse at
you. Master status shapes an individual s life and can be a positive, negative,
unbiased, or blended mark, and it can change after some time. For some, their status
may accompany a feeling of esteem, or the agreement from the group around them
that their status is to be fancied. Then again, when a status is seen as undesirable, the
status may be criticized. A shame can come about because of decisions somebody has
made, for example, infringing upon the law, or from circumstances outside of an
individual s control, for example, ailment or handicap. An individual may move over
the long run from being defamed to having a prestigious status, and the other way
around. Status irregularity happens when one status does not have all the

In A Cottage on the Heath and The Protestant Barn , Vincent van Gogh used similar
colors and shading to create a sense of isolation, routine, and hopelessness. This is
shown by the monotonous colors, the detailed shading, and the figures in the
artwork. To begin with, the colors of the painting are all nearly the same. The colors
are different shades of tan and brown, except for certain parts of the picture. The
colors of the sky make it look unsettled, making the picture miserable and hopeless.
Occasionally, the shading or shadows of the paintingcreate darker colors such as
black or grey, which only adds to the sense of desperateness. These colors add to the
sense of isolation, routine, and hopelessness because of their monotonous and bland
Alexander Hamilton s Financial Plan
Still, Hamilton s funding plan went forward. To pay it all, the United States would
reissue bonds that would be paid in full over 15 to 20 years. In other words, the
country would issue new debt at a lower rate in order to retire the old ( Hamilton s
Plan to Fix the U.S. Economy , Mintz and McNeil The Federalist Era: Alexander
Hamilton s Financial Program ). But a centralized government isn t cheap to run
and the U.S. would need some new cash flows quickly in order to keep up with its
debt obligations as well as its new federal functions. Why Whiskey? Hamilton s next
step was to figure out a way to fund the new national government as well as
simultaneously service the new debt. Other measures were already in place that

The heaviest tax was on imported spirits like wine and brandy, but these were
primarily consumed by elites in the city who could afford it. The middle level of
the tax was on domestically manufactured products made from imported goods (for
example, rum made from imported molasses), but these products were mostly sold
on the east coast and the tax was passed on to the consumer. The tax on distilled
spirits was actually the lowest of the three level tax, but unlike in the east where
the tax could be passed to the consumer, westerners couldn t afford that. Even if
they whiskey was their currency (Smith, Andrew 67). Easterners also drank
primarily wine, cider, and beer while the westerners drank spirits (Axelrod 48).
Collectors were particularly lenient on wealthy eastern merchants whether it be on
import duties or excise taxes (Bouton 230). Hamilton wouldn t dare crack down on
them because he was being careful to maintain the goodwill of the wealthy and
powerful. He did not, however, need to be in the good favor of the small farmers.
Though it was a federal tax, the Whiskey Tax was regional in its scope. It encouraged
regional divisions, class distinctions, and soon stirred complaints about excessive

Covering a broad area of north and central St. Louis is the Grande Prairie Area,
which is bounded by St. Louis and Grand Avenue, Delmar and Kingshighway
Boulevards.
From a beginning as a sparsely settled countryside in the 1860 s, the Grande Prairie
area experienced a gradual urbanization. This build up followed a westward trend
across Grand Avenue; among many people moving into the area were significant
numbers of German and Irish immigrants as well as a few blacks. Prior to 1900, the
population of the area was generally white. The nucleus of its present extensive black
population began in the Elleardsville section.

Age wise, some of these date back to the 1880 s and 1890 s. A number of former
single family dwellings have been converted into rooming houses. Frame houses are
found in poorer sections of the area where more demolition has occurred. The Ville
suffers from incredibly low real estate value in comparison to St. Louis other seventy
eight neighborhoods.
The neighborhood ranks second lowest in the value of single family residences and
ninth in the value of its two and four family structures, which together represent 95
percent of the neighborhood s housing options.
Principal commercial streets are Delmar, Kingshighway, Grand and Martin Luther
King Drive. Minor commercial strips are on Taylor, Sarah, Vandeventer and St.

store on Kingshighway. Elsewhere, generally, commercial uses are in poor
physical condition; with many vacant or vandalized. Considerable demolition has
occurred and on major streets some older stores have been replaced by drive ins or
service stations. Competition from outlying shopping centers and a lack of adequate
parking have taken their toll on neighborhood stores and shops. The major grocery
facilities are Schnucks Market, Aldi and Food for Less which are located on major
streets and accessible by public transit or motor vehicle.

Srinivasa Ramanujan
Srinivasa Ramanujan was one of India s greatest mathematical geniuses. He made
contributions to the analytical theory of numbers and worked on elliptic functions,
continued fractions, and infinite series. Ramanujan was born in his grandmother s
house in Erode on December 22, 1887. When Ramanujan was a year old his mother
took him to the town of Kumbakonam, near Madras. His father worked in
Kumbakonam as a clerk in a cloth merchant s shop. When he was five years old,
Ramanujan went to the primary school in Kumbakonam although he would attend
several different primary schools before entering the Town High School in

Ramachandra Rao told him to return to Madras and he tried, unsuccessfully, to
arrange a scholarship for Ramanujan. In 1912 Ramanujan applied for the post of
clerk in the accounts section of the Madras Port Trust. Ramanujan was appointed
to the post of clerk and began his duties on 1 March 1912. Ramanujan was quite
lucky to have a number of people working round him with training in mathematics.
In fact the Chief Accountant for the Madras Port Trust, S N Aiyar, was trained as a
mathematician and published a paper On the distribution of primes in 1913 on
Ramanujan s work. The professor of civil engineering at the Madras Engineering
College, T. Griffith was also interested in Ramanujan s abilities and, having been
educated at University College London, knew the professor of mathematics there,
namely M. Hill. He wrote to Hill on 12 November 1912 sending some of
Ramanujan s work and a copy of his 1911 paper on Bernoulli numbers. Hill replied
in a fairly encouraging way but showed that he had failed to understand Ramanujan s
results on divergent series. The recommendation to Ramanujan that he read
Bromwich s Theory of infinite series did not please Ramanujan much. Ramanujan
wrote to E. W. Hobson and H. F. Baker trying to interest them in his results but
neither replied. In January 1913 Ramanujan wrote to G H Hardy having seen a copy
of his 1910 book Orders of infinity. Hardy studied the long list of unproved theorems

The Walking Dead By Timothy Morton
The Walking Dead, Timothy Morton s Hyperobjects and Lars Von Trier s film
Melancholia, all open with the end of the world as their starting points to begin
their narrative, aiming to demonstrate how the end of contemporary time, as
familiar to both the characters in the show, as well as Morton and Trier s audiences
(us), are forced to adapt, alter, and change the way in which we perceive the world,
and act in order to survive in our new conditions. The following essay, utilizing the
apocalyptic theme contained within all three works, will strive to illustrate how
certain global events which profoundly revamp the world in which we live, as seen in
all three abovementioned examples, work in shifting the motivations, ethical
groundings, and moral underpinnings of the world s inhabitants. More precisely, the
following thesis will aim to answer what it means to act ethically in a world that has
ended , or is always ending, and how the end of times powerfully permutes the innate
instincts, incentives, and concerns of all mankind.
Firstly, this essay will briefly offer a summarization of the Walking Dead, primarily
focused on the episode judge, jury, executioner , as well as some of the basic
tenants of Morton s thoughts in Hyperobjects, as well as the happenings in
Melancholia, in order to reveal how the show s writers, as well as Morton and Trier,
use the end of times to demonstrate the profoundly altered conditions in which the
apocalypse has produced, as well as how this

The Cost Of Medicaid Funding
The costs associated with Medicaid have continued to increase over the years,
consuming a larger amount of both federal and state budgets throughout the country.
There are now worries about Medicaid eating up state budgets throughout several
states. In Kaiser Health News, Rau (2013) reported that health spending will rise
faster than economic growth. With such a significant increase in Medicaidcosts, there
is the danger of notable shortfalls within the Medicaid spending at the state level.
Without adequate reforms, the costs associated with Medicaid threaten to consume a
larger portion of state budgets, which could sequentially affect other budget items. An
increase in the number of enrollees, growth in provider payments, and an increase in
healthcare costs are some of the main reasons for an increase in Medicaid costs. The
intricacy of the Medicaid costs problem within the United Statesis made worse by a
decrease in state funds.
Medicaid financing has become an increasing issue for most states throughout the
years. The Government Accountability Office (2010) reported that forty seven of
the states as well as the District of Columbia had concerns regarding the
sustainability of their program. Around 16% of the state budgets go towards
Medicaid each year, totaling around $183 billion (Center on Budget and Policy
Priorities, 2015). A significant share of vulnerable populations relies on Medicaid for
medical coverage. Rocco, Gellad, Donohue (2015) estimated that of the

Summary Of Mt. Hood, Oregon By Albert Bierstadt
Albert Bierstadt was a painter most remembered for his dramatic and large
masterpieces that focused on extreme color and contrast, especially with lighting.
However, when it comes to his painting, Mt. Hood, Oregon, he tends to defy those
preconceived ideas. Painted in the early 1860 s, this painting is representative of
Bierstadt s earlier artwork. He uses lighter brushstrokes, a brighter and more
monochromatic color palette, and is depicting a minimalist scene in its natural state
(Figure 1). The painting is currently displayed at the Currier Museum of Art in
Manchester, NH, and while it is frequently described as small it is larger than you
think. Measuring at fifty one inches by sixty one and a quarter inches leaves the Mt.
Hood, Oregonpainting seeming small compared to his typical artworks. Due to the
smaller size of the painting, one is lead to believe that he did not have access to the
supplies or the desire to create a masterpiece of such grand scale such as The Rocky
Mountains, one of his most notable pieces. Bierstadt painted Mt. Hood, Oregonby
sketching the location on a canvas and then painting it with oil paint. When analyzing
the painting up close you are able to see the level of transparency in the paint,
resulting in sections of the canvas to shine through the color (Figure 2 and 3). In
order to achieve this look it is likely that Albert Bierstadt used large amounts of
turpentine to thin out the medium of oil paint, resulting in a transparent color.

Zero Tolerance In Schools
Zero tolerance is a great idea however, there needs to be changes made to this
program. Zero tolerance has made big changes at schools, some good and some
bad. The idea of getting a school safer is great but some of the consequences in the
program can be rather excessive. There has been many times where a student has

There have been many students that have done something and were treated like a

Satire In Satire
Satire: The Art of Exposing Foolishness Position is the incentive for society to
innovate and perform. Those in high positions may think themselves above society
and they are fools for that thinking. As William Shakespeare wrote in his play As
You Like It a, fool doth think he is wise, but as wise man knows he is a fool (). One
of the greatest pitfalls of society is the ignorance of its own foolishness, it is up to
the wise to recognize this and expose it for the benefit of the public. The wise use a
literary technique known as satire, to perform this service for society. Within satire
there are the why s the purpose, and the how s the method, both of which contribute
to the question: what is satire? Well, what is satire? A basic definition would be the
mode which combines humor, irony, and ridicule to bring about a recognition or

Auditory Cortex Failure
If I were to get into an accident, and had to choose which part of the brain I would
be okay with being damaged, I think I would have to choose the Auditory Cortex.
Damage to the Auditory Cortex in humans means the loss of awareness in sound.
If the damage was severe there is a chance I would go completely deaf. However,
there is the slight chance that I could still have reactions to sounds. I may still be
able to tell the difference between high and low pitch frequencies in the sounds. I
can also possibly be able to tell which direction a sound is coming from. There is
also a chance it would cause me to have balance issues, and excessive ringing in the
ears. Most of the time this type of damage is permeant. I think that I could handle the

instructor gave us the prompt ahead of time and I created a rough draft and when we
had to meet up in the computer room I just had to type up my essayand turn it in. The
challenging part of this essay would be understandingthe prompt because I had no
idea what a Mission statement was and what I was supposed to do. For Essay 1 I
was marked down for redundancy, repetition, grammar and spelling and also
clutter. What I can do to prevent the errors in my next version would be to
understand the prompt and directions more and have more ideas to write about
myself. In my revised Essay 1 version I did well on fixing my mistakes and not
repeating the same mistakes as last time by using the feedback that I received and
changing or improving the mistakes that I made in the past. I believe that I was
marked down for the grammar, punctuation and spelling errors, clutter and the
conclusion which were the same issues that I was marked own with. What I can do
to ensure that the same issues won t be showing again would be to reread my
revisions and peer read my work so I can get the other mistakes that I might have
created while revising or missed by mistake.

Social Stability In Brave New World
Brave New World is a novel written by Aldous Huxley, in which social stability is
placed above all else. The sacrifice of individuality in the name of social stability is
indeed worth the cost as the citizens of the World State are kept healthy, safe, and
happy. One believes things because one has been conditioned to believe them
(Huxley16). Social stability has numerous benefits, the major one being keeping the
citizens of world state safe. To ensure their safety, the leaders of society have
programmed everyone to believe what they are told. By doing this, those conditioned
won t ask any questions or think of things that could possibly decondition them and
possibly put them in harm s way. Boskanovsky s process is one of the major

A healthy society plays an important role in the world state. The overalls of the
workers were white, their hands gloved with a pale corpse colored rubber. The
light was frozen, dead, a ghost. Only from the yellow barrels of the microscopes
did it borrow a certain rich and living substances, lying along he polished tubes like
butter, streak after luscious streak in long recession down the work tables (Huxley
2). This quote shows that science has helped keep the society healthy. The
employees wearing gloves, keeping themselves and their work sterilized results in
keeping society and those who are being brought into society healthy and immune
from diseases. Ensuring that the citizens are immune and protected from diseases is
another exemplary reason to have social stability at a cost to the individual. In our
current society, we lack social stability but humans are ravaged with serious and life
threatening diseases, and in the society of Brave New Worldthe citizens of the world
state do not know the pain of sickness or loss that one may feel when a loved one

Summary Of The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber
From Child to Man: The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber
Ernest Hemingway was a great American writer and journalist. Hemingway used a
number of different foils to give insight into his characters and foreshadow events
to come in his writings. In Hemingway s short story The Happy Life of Francis
Macomber , a number of critics argue about what exactly he used to tell the story of
Francis Macomber growing from a cowardly boy to a courageous man. One thing
we can t argue about is the fact he did such a wonderful job.
Theodore L. Gaillard, Jr. argues in his journal article, The Critical Menagerie of The
Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber , that he believes that Hemingway used an
animal menagerie as a standard against which to measure and evaluate his human
actors (Gaillard 31 32). In Gaillard s journal article. He says the foil Hemingway
used in The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber , are the different animals that
are mentioned in his short story. Before getting to Africa, Francis Macomber only
had experience in spending money, fishing and hunting small animals (Gaillard
32). Francis is described as a rabbit hare towards the beginning of the story by
himself, his wife and Wilson, the hunter. I bolted like a rabbit Francis says in The
Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber (Hemingway 4). Francis uses the rabbit to
describe his cowardice when running from the lion he supposed to be hunting. More
specific than this implicitly negative criticism of Macomber is
The Battle Of Desdemona And Nora Helmer
The Battle of Desdemona and Nora Helmer
The best protection any women can have... is courage. Elizabeth Cody Stanton
Throughout the course of time, women have been discriminated against and have
been viewed more as objects than humans. Both authors, William Shakespeare and
Henrik Ibsen, express the inequality of women throughout the two plays. In A Doll
s House, Ibsen expresses how women are degraded by society. Henrick
characterized Nora Helmer as an average, stay at home mom who takes care of the
children, and has no job to provide for her family. Throughout the story the reader
sees how Nora fuels the play and also helps develop the plot. Although in Othello,
Shakespeare presents women using the same approach, on the contrary,
Shakespeare gave women more freedom, as we see in A Doll s House, Nora is
isolated from the outside world, while in Othello, Desdemona and Emilia are free to
wander without supervision. Through the duration of both plays, the reader becomes
aware of the characters flaws, Nora and Desdemona both demonstrate flaws as they
become naive and allow their trusting and reassuring nature to deceive them. Also,
both Torvald and Iago speak and view women in a prejudice manner, additionally;
both male characters view women as possessions. Finally, the female characters
disregard males dominance in the current society as the reader sees Nora and Emilia
have a different approach on men, rather than being obedient as other women do in
that current society.
Plagiarism in College Work Essay example
Plagiarism takes various forms. A student may cheat doing something as extreme as
purchasing a paper, hiring someone to write a paper or turning in a paper freely
provided by a friend. Many students unknowingly commit Plagiarism by failing to
properly cite their sources crediting the authors. Still others cite, but plagiarize by
coping much too much and writingfar, far too little of their own synthesized thoughts
and ideas. Students must be careful about copying too much. If a paper is mostly
other writers material, that can be considered Plagiarism, even if the student credits
their sources.

Theology of Revelation Essay
Introduction
Trinitarian theology within the book of Revelation is not at first sight easily
recognisable amongst the plethora of images and prophecies that are recorded. The
beauty of John s theology is that the Trinity is deeply embedded in the text so that
the reader must dissect the book in order to glimpse the theological beauty that is
present. This essay will seek to explore the threads of the Holy Trinity that appear in
the book of Revelation by looking at the characteristics of God, the specific
Christology of John and the role of the Holy Spirit in the book of Revelation. In
looking at each of these three areas as distinct yet overlapping threads I hope to give
a succinct and scholastic Trinitarian theology of Revelation. ... Show more content on

The first is, the one who is, who was and who is to come. This is a threefold phrase
that serves to indicate the eternal nature of God, who exists before, after and above
all other powers. The second title is the first and the last , this can be seen in
Revelation 1:17, 2:8 and 22:13; relating to this is the third title of the beginning
and the end . Both titles show God s character as eternal in duration and as being in
control. The last title is the alpha and omega , which according to Aune takes on,
the notions of pre eminence and superiority. The second grouping looks at how God
is connected with things. For example this can be seen in the phrase, the one who is
seated on the throne. Woodman points out that, John s point is clear: the emperor
may sit on an earthly throne, but God is on the ultimate throne in heaven. How God
is connected to the throne is therefore not just a fact that is noted by John, but a
metaphor of God s ultimate rule and power. The throne by way of representation
shows another characteristic of God. The third grouping is concerned with God s
being and attributes. These are many and varied and often overlap with Jesus and the
Spirit but one area that is unique is the voice of God. This is recorded for example
in chapter sixteen, Then I heard a loud voice from the temple telling the seven
angels, Go and pour out on the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God. A voice

Causes for transfusion reactions can include red cell incompatibility, allergic response
due to leukocytes, platelets, plasma protein components of transfused blood, or the

a few. Symptoms, prevention, and treatment will be discussed for the following

Transfusion Related Acute Lung Injury (TRALI) is a reaction, generally
presenting during or within 1 2 hours of a transfusion. It is the leading cause of
transfusion related mortality based on 2011 FDA data. Symptoms are a sudden
onset of respiratory distress and hypoxemia which may be accompanied by fever,
tachycardia, tachypnea and sometimes hypotension. Most instances of TRALI are
believed to be caused by anti leukocyte antibodies present in a donor s plasma.
These antibodies are directed against HLA or neutrophil antigens present on the
blood recipient s white blood cells. This reaction is believed to start in the small
microvasculature of the lung. This causes a series of events resulting in damage to
alveolar capillaries and leakage of fluid leading to pulmonary edema. There is no
specific way to prevent TRALI except by minimizing the number of transfusions
administered. Since blood component collections centers (ex. Red Cross) have
implemented policies to restrict plasma donation by female donors, this reduces the
incidence of anti leukocyte antibodies which can trigger TRALI. Aggressive
supportive care is required over several days. This aggressive supportive care most
likely includes adequate respiratory and

Gandhi
In previous world confrontations, violence has proven to be the key to success,
however this is not always the case for many great world leaders have used the
strategy known as civil disobedience and other non harmful acts. With these
strategies the leaders were able to successfully achieve their goal. Non violence
comes in many different forms such as, boycotts, freedom rides, sit ins and
marches. One other form of non violence is to intentionally disobey the law in a
calm and peaceful manner. Non violence has attained many leaders goals in different
eras. However, three of the most popular leaders used this strategy to influence the
world were: Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther King Jr., and Mohandas Gandhi. These
men were three of the most influential leaders to use the non violence strategy.
Gandhi was the first man to use this strategy in his birthplace of India when they
went in a battle with the British to fight for Indian independence. Gandhi believed
that the people of India deserved to be their own person and have their own
personality without the consent of the British. He believed that they should be able to
make their own political choices and dress the way they wanted to without the British
telling them what to do and how to do it. Nelson Mandela practiced the non violence
strategy during the South African struggle to overthrow Apartheid. He joined the
ANC, (African National Congress) in hope of a new future. That led to the start of his

Robert Frost s Poem After Apple Picking
Robert Frost was one of the great American poets. His poems inspired and still
inspire people of today s time. His work will live on forever. All of his poems have
a deep intellectual meaning to them. They make you think about what really matters
in life. They make you question where you are in your life. Robert Frost once said,
Poetryis about the grief. It is clear that this was Frost s intention for each poem he
wrote. For example, in After Apple Picking the poem is about a man who seems to
be dying and is reminiscing about his past life. The man is full of regrets after
realizing all of the dreams he did not accomplish. The man is full of grief. He
views his life as worthless and meaningless because of what he missed out in his
own life. In the poem After Apple Picking Robert Frost s battling tones and
figurative language alludes to an end of season, which conveys a message of
reminiscing, and the end of one s life.
There are two tones in After Apple Picking . In the beginning of the poem, the tone
is somewhat of acceptance. The opening line says that the man was on his ladder and
it is pointing towards heaven. This line suggests that he is close to heaven and that he
is okay with it. But then the tone of the poem shifts drastically after line eight. The
poem turns dark. Line eight states I am drowsing off. I cannot rub the strangeness
from my sight... then ends the sentence with It melted, and I let is fall and break.
These lines suggest that the man

England experienced the death of George IV and accession of William IV in 1830
,that resulted in a general parliamentary election in which the opposition political

Ratios Analysis In Financial Analysis
Ratios analysis is quantitative analyses of financial statements. They can generally be

Possession In Song Of Solomon
Anthem of Possession
Possession can be expressed in many forms, some physical and some through things
like work and personal debt and gains. This idea of possession is shown throughout
Toni Morrison s Song of Solomon, a tale that follows the Dead Family during their
life in the 1930 s. The story mainly follows Milkman as he travels from Michigan to
Virginia to learn the truth about himself. To do so he must confront his father and
take control of himself. Although Milkman wants to take control and possession of
his life, he must confront his family s lust for possessions and break away from them,
revealed by his grandfather s journey, he sees the importance of leaving behind the
conceptions and prejudice that have dispossessed him. Materialistic possession
plays a pivotal role within Milkman s family and life offering a means of escape
from dispossession, despite its eventual development into greed. Early in the book,
when Milkman believes that his father was the absolute power within his
household, Macon Dead Sr. is telling his family about buying some vacation homes
on the lake and selling them to colored folks during the summer. He questions,
Who s going to live in them? This questioning tone reveals his distrust of his father
and his agreement of the belief that There s no colored people who can afford two
houses. (Morrison 33) Milkman sees his father trying to fill and fix his dispossession
but doesn t agree with his methods. Here he must confront his father s

The Paradox From Zeno And Mctaggart Essay
In this paper I will be discussing the concept of the paradox, examples from Zeno
and McTaggart, and how modern science has potential solved the paradox put forth
by McTaggart. Both of these paradoxes have a enormous repercussion on how
objective fact about the world can be understood. I claim that McTaggart s theory of
timecan be solved by modern physicsas Einstein s theory of relativity makes time a
relative factor in how time is understood. Before discussing the idea of paradoxes, I
will first describe what a paradox is. A paradox, strictly speaking, is when a theory
with logical premises leads to the creation of two logical, but contradictory,
conclusion. This definition of paradox works, but is very limited in scope of what
we can classify as a paradox. Thus modifying the definition of a paradox to mean
an argument that leads to wildly different conclusion... . Using this understanding
of paradox, I will give a famous example of a paradox thought up by the Greek
philosopher Zeno. I will now discuss Zeno s paradox of motion. Zeno argues that
motion does not exist through this argument: 1) there is an object at point A that is
moving to a point B; 2) in order to reach point B, the object must pass the halfway
point of points A and B; 3) we continue halving the remain distance and point B, all
the way up to infinity; 4) this means that the object is taking an infinite distance to
cross, and therefore, motion cannot exist, as an object cannot move an infinite

the oral, anal, and phallic stages. Later, he identified two additional stages called
the latent and genital period. The phallic stages include the Oedipus Complex for
boys and the Electra Complex for girls. The Oedipus Complex states there is a
sexual attraction towards the mother and a sense of jealousy to the point of hatred
of the father. The Electra Complex states that there is a sexual attraction towards
the father and a hostile rivalry toward the mother. I find Freud s theory of the
unconscious to be relevant and useful. I think the use of the term Freudian Slip
most relevant in applying this theory. I know at times I have said things that I may
have not been consciously thinking about yet when they came out I could identify
with them. I can also agree that many unconscious memories are from childhood
events. I find this highly useful for me because I am adopted and so unlike any
members of my family. I believe my early childhood events helped to shape my
future behavior but they were very painful and I repressed them. His stress on the
importance of childhood helped to teach the value of giving children an emotionally
nourishing environment so I can definitely find
The Medieval Period Of The Middle Ages
During the Middle ages countless disputes over power occur. From corrupted
government officials, to establishing a proper structure for Roman Catholicism.
However, one can argue whether it s good or bad intentions with great powers
comes great responsibility. The Medieval period began from the 5th century when
the Western Roman Empire collapsed, to 15th century. During the Medieval Period
the Roman Church was the dominated church. The church controlled religion,
philosophy, morals, politics, art and education. In addition, many practices from
the Middle Ages laid the foundations to today s modern world. Charles the Greats
of the franks, also known as Charlemagne was a Medieval Emperor during 800.
Ruling majority of Europe by spreading the outbreak of religion and culture.
Charles the Great was a man of knowledge, as he was fluent in Latin, he studied
Greek and liberal arts, giving him personality as a scholar. Unlike his predecessor
Charlemagne supported education, one of his goals was to provide an educated
clergy. The educated clergy was usually a group of religious servants, performing
administrative duties for the government. Furthermore, to continue Greco Roman
cultural legacy he made Christianity the domain religion in regions of Western
Europe. However, Charles the Great was challenged as Emperor of the Romans
because Emperor of the Romans rightfully belongs to Carolingian family. Yet in the
act into reviving the Roman Empire, PopeLeo III crowned
Similarities Between Wizard Of Oz And Wicked
Wizard of Oz and Wicked. Two very different stories both sharing the same
characters and setting. The two plots are so masterfully intertwined, but showing
two very different points of view. Although they share so many similarities,
relationships and conflicts between the two are very different. Glinda maybe isn t
so good after all, Elphaba was just trying to do what was right, and the Wizard was
the real villain all along. To truly see things as they really are, both sides of a story
must be acknowledged and understood, or else someone else s story will be lost.
The Wizard of Oz is a classic known by all. The plot is fairly simple. Poor bored
Dorothy is sick of her normal boring life on her Aunt and Uncles farm in Kansas
and decides to run away to a more exciting life. Her plans are changed when she
meets a fortune teller who convinces her to go back home. Unfortunately, as she is
headed back home a horrible storm starts and she and her dog Toto are blown
away, along with her house. When she lands, she comes outside to see that she has
landed on a person with red shoes. She is met by tiny people and a witch called
Glinda who tells her that she has landed on and killed the Wicked Witch of the East.
Dorothy tells Glinda she wants to go home, and Glinda tells her if she follows the
yellow brick road she will end up in the Emerald City where the Wonderful Wizard of
Oz can help get her home.
Along the yellow brick road, she meets a scarecrow who wants a brain, a tin man who
Genetic Defects Of Gene Therapy
Gene therapy is a process involving the transplant of non mutant, normal genes into
cells, either in place of missing genes, or to essentially replace those genes which are
not functioning properly, or not coding for properly functioning proteins, with the
purpose of treatment and correction of a number of genetic disorders. This particular
type of treatment technique is hoped to, in the future, be able to replace surgery, and
a slew of different drugs in the treatment of a variety of diseases in humans caused by
genetic defects. This seems to be a promising technique with the potential to redefine
the way we approach treatment of many crippling diseases causing human suffering,
however, the development of such a technique raises some questions. For one, what
exactly is the mechanism of action utilized in such a technique, how is the functional
genetranslocated to the target cells, and once there, how is the new, functional gene
integrated into the target cells in order to effectively treat the disorder. Another
question is, what clinical diseases and disorders would this treatment be appropriate
for, in addition, which disorders have been attempted to be treated with this technique
already, and have there been any successes with this treatment technique. Finally,
have any ill effects, short or long term, been observed in patients treated with this
gene therapytechnique? If so, what are they, are these effects irreversible, and have
there been any studies into the

Concert Setting
Performance Style
As compared to a traditional setting, there are large groups of djembe players with
accompanying parts with a ballet troupe in a concert setting. (Polak., (2000). In a
concert setting, they will perform many dances in rapid succession at high energy
levels. There are also modern urban electric groups (called orchestras) which largely
involved guitar playing. (Price, 2013). Moreover, most recently, another genre has out
grown the ballet style djembe playing, these new ensembles have further remove
traditional djembe drumming by disposing of dancers. (Charry., 1996) To date, the
djembe plays an important role in the highly percussive rhythmic section in concerts
and performances. (Conakry et.al)

With the help of hand clapping, one is able to notate it perfectly with eighth notes and
sixteenth notes. (Charry, 2000) Moreover, there is a relation between African
drumming and physical movement such as dancing. With the help of adding
choreography to African drumming, there is a flow and ebb to the performance
which corresponds to the frenetic dancing at intense tempos and slower breaks allow
the guests to participate the performance. (Charry., 1996). For instance, in our UWA
percussion ensemble, adding body percussion to the performance can help us
remember the beats and brighten up the performance.
Limitations
Alternatively, there were limitations in the transmission of music in the concert
setting. For instance, rhythms of the ballet were modified or even changed drastically
for the presentation for the performance. This resulted in a change of tempo or the
djembe accompaniments. Thus, this leads to a loss of authenticity and depth, as
compared to a traditional djembe performance.
Moreover, African rhythmic concepts were difficult to explain. Thus, in order to
teach the foreign students effectively, teachers began to simplify the rhythms and it
became fixed. Similarly, to the UWA percussion ensemble, our conductor help
simplified our piece as certain rhythms were hard to follow. In addition, the notes and
rhythms were repetitive and fixed hence making it easier for us to remember and
Electromagnetic Radiation
INTRODUCTION
Radiation, flow of atomic and subatomic particles and of waves, such as those that
characterize heat rays, light rays, and X rays. All matter is constantly bombarded
with radiation of both types from cosmic and terrestrial sources. This article
delineates the properties and behaviour of radiation and the matter with which it
interacts and describes how energy is transferred from radiation to its surroundings.
Considerable attention is devoted to the consequences of such an energy transfer to
living matter, including the normal effects on many life processes (e.g.,
photosynthesis in plants and vision in animals) and the abnormal or injurious effects
that result from the exposure of organisms to unusual types of radiation or ... Show

Considerably more knowledge about the biologic effects of neutrons had been
acquired by the time the first nuclear reactor was built in 1942 in Chicago. The
nuclear reactor, which has become a prime source of energy for the world, produces
an enormous amount of neutrons as well as other forms of radiation. The widespread
use of nuclear reactors and the development of high energy particle accelerators,
another prolific source of ionizing radiation, have given rise to health physics. This
field of study deals with the hazards of radiation and protection against such hazards.
Moreover, since the advent of spaceflight in the late 1950s, certain kinds of radiation
from space and their effects on human health have attracted much attention. The
protons in the Van Allen radiation belts (two doughnut shaped zones of high energy
particles trapped in the Earth s magnetic field), the protons and heavier ions ejected in
solar flares, and similar particles near the top of the atmosphere are particularly
important.
Units for measuring ionizing radiation
Ionizing radiation is measured in various units. The oldest unit, the roentgen (R),
denotes the amount of radiation that is required to produce 1 electrostatic unit of
charge in 1 cubic centimetre of air under standard conditions of pressure,
temperature, and humidity. For expressing the dose of radiation absorbed in living
tissue, the principal units are the gray (Gy; 1 Gy = 1 joule of radiation energy
Abraham Lincoln s Assassination Of President
Abraham Lincoln s Assassination
President Abraham Lincoln was the first United States president ever to be
assassinated while in office. He was president during the Civil War and had many
people that did not like him. John Wilkes Booth was one of those people and was the
man responsible for the Presidents death. The following is about Abraham Lincoln,
John Wilkes Booth, Booth s plan for Lincoln, the President s assassination, Booth s
capture and how it affected history. Abraham Lincoln was born February 12, 1809
in Hardin County, Kentucky. He was the second child of Thomas and Nancy
Hanks Lincoln. In 1818, his mother died while he was just nine years old. He had
an older sister named Sarah and a brother name Thomas who died as an infant.
Lincoln had very little education, he only attended about one year of school in the
classroom. He loved to read books and was known to have walked miles to borrow
one. Lincoln really disliked the hard work living in the frontier and so many
people thought he was lazy and that he read to get out of work. He tried work as a
rail splitter, flatboatman, storekeeper, postmaster and surveyor before he became
interested in law. He read law books on his own and in 1836, passed the bar exam.
He moved to Springfield, Illinois and practiced law there. By now he was also very
interested in politics and served four successful terms in the Illinois House of
Representatives. On November 6, 1860, Lincoln was elected the 16th president of the

  • 2. Master Status Is A Term For Human Science Master Status Master status is a term in human science used to portray the status of most noteworthy significance in a specific individual s life. This can be in view of any status, for example, your sex, ethnicity, skin tone, physical and emotional well being or capacity, financial status, sexual introduction, religious or profound custom, job status, occupation, or family obligation. Master status is a sort of name that may be given to you by others you experience on the planet, or it might be the status that you by and by feel is generally imperative. It could be a piece of you that is first clear to others when they meet you or it could be a component to your personality that others would not understand essentially by taking a glimpse at you. Master status shapes an individual s life and can be a positive, negative, unbiased, or blended mark, and it can change after some time. For some, their status may accompany a feeling of esteem, or the agreement from the group around them that their status is to be fancied. Then again, when a status is seen as undesirable, the status may be criticized. A shame can come about because of decisions somebody has made, for example, infringing upon the law, or from circumstances outside of an individual s control, for example, ailment or handicap. An individual may move over the long run from being defamed to having a prestigious status, and the other way around. Status irregularity happens when one status does not have all the

In A Cottage on the Heath and The Protestant Barn , Vincent van Gogh used similar colors and shading to create a sense of isolation, routine, and hopelessness. This is shown by the monotonous colors, the detailed shading, and the figures in the artwork. To begin with, the colors of the painting are all nearly the same. The colors are different shades of tan and brown, except for certain parts of the picture. The colors of the sky make it look unsettled, making the picture miserable and hopeless. The following essay, utilizing the apocalyptic theme contained within all three works, will strive to illustrate how certain global events which profoundly revamp the world in which we live, as seen in all three abovementioned examples, work in shifting the motivations, ethical groundings, and moral underpinnings of the world s inhabitants. More precisely, the following thesis will aim to answer what it means to act ethically in a world that has ended , or is always ending, and how the end of times powerfully permutes the innate instincts, incentives, and concerns of all mankind. Hood, Oregon By Albert Bierstadt Albert Bierstadt was a painter most remembered for his dramatic and large masterpieces that focused on extreme color and contrast, especially with lighting. However, when it comes to his painting, Mt. Hood, Oregon, he tends to defy those preconceived ideas. Painted in the early 1860 s, this painting is representative of Bierstadt s earlier artwork. He uses lighter brushstrokes, a brighter and more monochromatic color palette, and is depicting a minimalist scene in its natural state (Figure 1). The painting is currently displayed at the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester, NH, and while it is frequently described as small it is larger than you think. Measuring at fifty one inches by sixty one and a quarter inches leaves the Mt. Hood, Oregonpainting seeming small compared to his typical artworks. Due to the smaller size of the painting, one is lead to believe that he did not have access to the supplies or the desire to create a masterpiece of such grand scale such as The Rocky Mountains, one of his most notable pieces. Bierstadt painted Mt. Hood, Oregonby sketching the location on a canvas and then painting it with oil paint. When analyzing the painting up close you are able to see the level of transparency in the paint, resulting in sections of the canvas to shine through the color (Figure 2 and 3). In order to achieve this look it is likely that Albert Bierstadt used large amounts of turpentine to thin out the medium of oil paint, resulting in a transparent color.

The sacrifice of individuality in the name of social stability is indeed worth the cost as the citizens of the World State are kept healthy, safe, and happy. One believes things because one has been conditioned to believe them (Huxley16). Social stability has numerous benefits, the major one being keeping the citizens of world state safe. To ensure their safety, the leaders of society have programmed everyone to believe what they are told. By doing this, those conditioned won t ask any questions or think of things that could possibly decondition them and possibly put them in harm s way. • 28. Summary Of The Short Happy Life Of Francis Macomber From Child to Man: The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber Ernest Hemingway was a great American writer and journalist. Hemingway used a number of different foils to give insight into his characters and foreshadow events to come in his writings. In Hemingway s short story The Happy Life of Francis Macomber , a number of critics argue about what exactly he used to tell the story of Francis Macomber growing from a cowardly boy to a courageous man. One thing we can t argue about is the fact he did such a wonderful job. Theodore L. Gaillard, Jr. argues in his journal article, The Critical Menagerie of The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber , that he believes that Hemingway used an animal menagerie as a standard against which to measure and evaluate his human actors (Gaillard 31 32). In Gaillard s journal article. He says the foil Hemingway used in The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber , are the different animals that are mentioned in his short story. Before getting to Africa, Francis Macomber only had experience in spending money, fishing and hunting small animals (Gaillard 32). Francis is described as a rabbit hare towards the beginning of the story by himself, his wife and Wilson, the hunter. I bolted like a rabbit Francis says in The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber (Hemingway 4). Francis uses the rabbit to describe his cowardice when running from the lion he supposed to be hunting. • 29. The Battle Of Desdemona And Nora Helmer The Battle of Desdemona and Nora Helmer The best protection any women can have... is courage. Elizabeth Cody Stanton Throughout the course of time, women have been discriminated against and have been viewed more as objects than humans. Both authors, William Shakespeare and Henrik Ibsen, express the inequality of women throughout the two plays. In A Doll s House, Ibsen expresses how women are degraded by society. Henrick characterized Nora Helmer as an average, stay at home mom who takes care of the children, and has no job to provide for her family. Throughout the story the reader sees how Nora fuels the play and also helps develop the plot. Although in Othello, Shakespeare presents women using the same approach, on the contrary, Shakespeare gave women more freedom, as we see in A Doll s House, Nora is isolated from the outside world, while in Othello, Desdemona and Emilia are free to wander without supervision. Through the duration of both plays, the reader becomes aware of the characters flaws, Nora and Desdemona both demonstrate flaws as they become naive and allow their trusting and reassuring nature to deceive them. Also, both Torvald and Iago speak and view women in a prejudice manner, additionally; both male characters view women as possessions. Finally, the female characters disregard males dominance in the current society as the reader sees Nora and Emilia have a different approach on men, rather than being obedient as other women do in that current society.

Theology of Revelation Essay Introduction Trinitarian theology within the book of Revelation is not at first sight easily recognisable amongst the plethora of images and prophecies that are recorded. The beauty of John s theology is that the Trinity is deeply embedded in the text so that the reader must dissect the book in order to glimpse the theological beauty that is present. This essay will seek to explore the threads of the Holy Trinity that appear in the book of Revelation by looking at the characteristics of God, the specific Christology of John and the role of the Holy Spirit in the book of Revelation. The first is, the one who is, who was and who is to come. This is a threefold phrase that serves to indicate the eternal nature of God, who exists before, after and above all other powers. The second title is the first and the last , this can be seen in Revelation 1:17, 2:8 and 22:13; relating to this is the third title of the beginning and the end . Both titles show God s character as eternal in duration and as being in control. The last title is the alpha and omega , which according to Aune takes on, the notions of pre eminence and superiority. The second grouping looks at how God is connected with things. For example this can be seen in the phrase, the one who is seated on the throne. Woodman points out that, John s point is clear: the emperor may sit on an earthly throne, but God is on the ultimate throne in heaven. How God is connected to the throne is therefore not just a fact that is noted by John, but a metaphor of God s ultimate rule and power. The throne by way of representation shows another characteristic of God. The third grouping is concerned with God s being and attributes. These are many and varied and often overlap with Jesus and the Spirit but one area that is unique is the voice of God. This is recorded for example in chapter sixteen, Then I heard a loud voice from the temple telling the seven angels, Go and pour out on the earth the seven bowls of the wrath of God. A voice does not

Oxygen therapy and intravenous diuretics should be use appropriately. Transfusion Related Acute Lung Injury (TRALI) is a reaction, generally presenting during or within 1 2 hours of a transfusion. It is the leading cause of transfusion related mortality based on 2011 FDA data. Symptoms are a sudden onset of respiratory distress and hypoxemia which may be accompanied by fever, tachycardia, tachypnea and sometimes hypotension. Most instances of TRALI are believed to be caused by anti leukocyte antibodies present in a donor s plasma. These antibodies are directed against HLA or neutrophil antigens present on the blood recipient s white blood cells. This reaction is believed to start in the small microvasculature of the lung. This causes a series of events resulting in damage to alveolar capillaries and leakage of fluid leading to pulmonary edema. There is no specific way to prevent TRALI except by minimizing the number of transfusions administered. Since blood component collections centers (ex. Red Cross) have implemented policies to restrict plasma donation by female donors, this reduces the incidence of anti leukocyte antibodies which can trigger TRALI. Aggressive supportive care is required over several days. This aggressive supportive care most likely includes adequate respiratory and

All of his poems have a deep intellectual meaning to them. They make you think about what really matters in life. They make you question where you are in your life. Robert Frost once said, Poetryis about the grief. It is clear that this was Frost s intention for each poem he wrote. For example, in After Apple Picking the poem is about a man who seems to be dying and is reminiscing about his past life. The man is full of regrets after realizing all of the dreams he did not accomplish. The man is full of grief. He views his life as worthless and meaningless because of what he missed out in his own life. In the poem After Apple Picking Robert Frost s battling tones and figurative language alludes to an end of season, which conveys a message of reminiscing, and the end of one s life. There are two tones in After Apple Picking . In the beginning of the poem, the tone is somewhat of acceptance. The opening line says that the man was on his ladder and it is pointing towards heaven. This line suggests that he is close to heaven and that he is okay with it. But then the tone of the poem shifts drastically after line eight. The poem turns dark. Line eight states I am drowsing off. I cannot rub the strangeness from my sight... then ends the sentence with It melted, and I let is fall and break. These lines suggest that the man

The Paradox From Zeno And Mctaggart Essay In this paper I will be discussing the concept of the paradox, examples from Zeno and McTaggart, and how modern science has potential solved the paradox put forth by McTaggart. Both of these paradoxes have a enormous repercussion on how objective fact about the world can be understood. I claim that McTaggart s theory of timecan be solved by modern physicsas Einstein s theory of relativity makes time a relative factor in how time is understood. Before discussing the idea of paradoxes, I will first describe what a paradox is. A paradox, strictly speaking, is when a theory with logical premises leads to the creation of two logical, but contradictory, conclusion. This definition of paradox works, but is very limited in scope of what we can classify as a paradox. Thus modifying the definition of a paradox to mean an argument that leads to wildly different conclusion... . Using this understanding of paradox, I will give a famous example of a paradox thought up by the Greek philosopher Zeno. I will now discuss Zeno s paradox of motion. Zeno argues that motion does not exist through this argument: 1) there is an object at point A that is moving to a point B; 2) in order to reach point B, the object must pass the halfway point of points A and B; 3) we continue halving the remain distance and point B, all the way up to infinity; 4) this means that the object is taking an infinite distance to cross, and therefore, motion cannot exist, as an object cannot move an infinite

For one, what exactly is the mechanism of action utilized in such a technique, how is the functional genetranslocated to the target cells, and once there, how is the new, functional gene integrated into the target cells in order to effectively treat the disorder. Another question is, what clinical diseases and disorders would this treatment be appropriate for, in addition, which disorders have been attempted to be treated with this technique already, and have there been any successes with this treatment technique. Finally, have any ill effects, short or long term, been observed in patients treated with this gene therapytechnique? If so, what are they, are these effects irreversible, and have there been any studies into the

Concert Styles Paper Concert Setting Performance Style As compared to a traditional setting, there are large groups of djembe players with accompanying parts with a ballet troupe in a concert setting. (Polak., (2000). In a concert setting, they will perform many dances in rapid succession at high energy levels. There are also modern urban electric groups (called orchestras) which largely involved guitar playing. (Price, 2013). Moreover, most recently, another genre has out grown the ballet style djembe playing, these new ensembles have further remove traditional djembe drumming by disposing of dancers. (Charry., 1996) To date, the djembe plays an important role in the highly percussive rhythmic section in concerts and performances. (Conakry et.al) Transmission ... (Charry, 2000) Moreover, there is a relation between African drumming and physical movement such as dancing. With the help of adding choreography to African drumming, there is a flow and ebb to the performance which corresponds to the frenetic dancing at intense tempos and slower breaks allow the guests to participate the performance. (Charry., 1996). For instance, in our UWA percussion ensemble, adding body percussion to the performance can help us remember the beats and brighten up the performance. Limitations Alternatively, there were limitations in the transmission of music in the concert setting. For instance, rhythms of the ballet were modified or even changed drastically for the presentation for the performance. This resulted in a change of tempo or the djembe accompaniments. Thus, this leads to a loss of authenticity and depth, as compared to a traditional djembe performance. Moreover, African rhythmic concepts were difficult to explain. Thus, in order to teach the foreign students effectively, teachers began to simplify the rhythms and it became fixed. Similarly, to the UWA percussion ensemble, our conductor help simplified our piece as certain rhythms were hard to follow. In addition, the notes and rhythms were repetitive and fixed hence making it easier for us to remember and

All matter is constantly bombarded with radiation of both types from cosmic and terrestrial sources. This article delineates the properties and behaviour of radiation and the matter with which it interacts and describes how energy is transferred from radiation to its surroundings. Considerable attention is devoted to the consequences of such an energy transfer to living matter, including the normal effects on many life processes (e.g., photosynthesis in plants and vision in animals) and the abnormal or injurious effects that result from the exposure of organisms to unusual types of radiation or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Considerably more knowledge about the biologic effects of neutrons had been acquired by the time the first nuclear reactor was built in 1942 in Chicago. The nuclear reactor, which has become a prime source of energy for the world, produces an enormous amount of neutrons as well as other forms of radiation. The widespread use of nuclear reactors and the development of high energy particle accelerators, another prolific source of ionizing radiation, have given rise to health physics. This field of study deals with the hazards of radiation and protection against such hazards. Moreover, since the advent of spaceflight in the late 1950s, certain kinds of radiation from space and their effects on human health have attracted much attention. The protons in the Van Allen radiation belts (two doughnut shaped zones of high energy particles trapped in the Earth s magnetic field), the protons and heavier ions ejected in solar flares, and similar particles near the top of the atmosphere are particularly important. Units for measuring ionizing radiation Ionizing radiation is measured in various units. The oldest unit, the roentgen (R), denotes the amount of radiation that is required to produce 1 electrostatic unit of charge in 1 cubic centimetre of air under standard conditions of pressure, temperature, and humidity. For expressing the dose of radiation absorbed in living tissue, the principal units are the gray (Gy; 1 Gy = 1 joule of radiation energy
  • 50. Abraham Lincoln s Assassination Of President Abraham Lincoln s Assassination President Abraham Lincoln was the first United States president ever to be assassinated while in office. He was president during the Civil War and had many people that did not like him. John Wilkes Booth was one of those people and was the man responsible for the Presidents death. The following is about Abraham Lincoln, John Wilkes Booth, Booth s plan for Lincoln, the President s assassination, Booth s capture and how it affected history. Abraham Lincoln was born February 12, 1809 in Hardin County, Kentucky. He was the second child of Thomas and Nancy Hanks Lincoln. In 1818, his mother died while he was just nine years old. He had an older sister named Sarah and a brother name Thomas who died as an infant. Lincoln had very little education, he only attended about one year of school in the classroom. He loved to read books and was known to have walked miles to borrow one. Lincoln really disliked the hard work living in the frontier and so many people thought he was lazy and that he read to get out of work. He tried work as a rail splitter, flatboatman, storekeeper, postmaster and surveyor before he became interested in law. He read law books on his own and in 1836, passed the bar exam. He moved to Springfield, Illinois and practiced law there. By now he was also very interested in politics and served four successful terms in the Illinois House of Representatives. On November 6, 1860, Lincoln was elected the 16th president of the United
