Comparing Republic And Plato s Republic
The central idea of both philosophers writing is that the citizens of a state should preserve good, and
act justly and fairly, and their rulers should abide by the rules and regulations of the state and treat
their fellow citizens in the same way. Both philosophers claim that being good and doing good leads
to happiness the ultimate good in human life and a life connected with money, pleasure, and all sorts
of materialistic possessions is an unrealistic life. This paper will outline and further elaborate the
major similarities and differences between the way these philosophers perceive the philosophical
anthropology and the political philosophy based on their time, context, and the society.
In Plato s Republic, one finds the societal status ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, navigating through Plato s writings, it is conspicuous that he provides the same notion as to
how the rulers of the state should act. Plato claims that law does not make any particular class in the
city outstandingly happy but it spreads happiness throughout the city by bringing the citizens into
harmony with each other through persuasion or compulsion and through sharing the benefits with each
other. The law produces people who make use of the citizens to bind the city together; however, it
does not allow them to turn the city into the direction they desire

applied to other product lines as well. The costs of the program would be minimal since it would
primarily be used for consults to product improvement after initial prototypes or for ideas for new
developments. A big problem with its gaming system is that compared to other big name consoles like
the XBOX, its product does not fully utilize it computing power thereby limiting its capabilities. As
consumer needs change the console has gone from being just a simple gaming product to an in home
entertainment system and Sony should push it to it max. This can be said for its mobile offerings are
well as the company fails to optimize its products for premium performance; a fault which has led to
dwindling mobile sales. The company needs to develop its peripheral services such as its TV offerings
as well as other attention holding services which would keep consumers glued to its products. It needs
premium original products and services offered through its devices, thereby tying in at least two of its
big sectors; entertainment and gaming. It is something of a farce that a company as big in the
entertainment world as Sony has only been able to provide one original TV show for its PlayStation
providers whereas companies like Netflix are spending upwards of $6 Billion on content development.
Something Google has done very well is use the data it receives from its product offerings to
continuously develop and advance technology for its consumers. Sony needs to learn to do this as well

The Survival Rates Of Breast Cancer
Breast Cancer is the most common misfortune in women and second leading cause of death by cancer.
Today, woman with breast cancer have a 90% chance of surviving for five years post diagnosis.
However, African American women have a national survival rate of 79%. Socioeconomic barriers and
lack of access to health services have crippled African American women in breast cancer
advancements. Studies have show that African American women tend to be diagnosed with a higher
stage of cancer because of the delay of being tested until it is late in the stage. African American
women in contrast to their white counterparts generally have a more aggressive stage of breast cancer
and therefore a shorter survival rate. These startling statistics bring ... Show more content on

Much advancement has been made for the treatment of breast cancer, yet the object of the matter is its
utilization. Lack of recommendation for screening mammography, poor access to health care and
cultural beliefs discouraging women from seeking care for a potential breast problem have each been
linked to disparate breast cancer outcomes between African American and White women. (American
Association for Cancer Research) Even though race based disparities have been explored in breast
cancer outcomes, direct evidence linking these disparities to social injustice is deficient. Few studies
have been reported examining the correlation between breast cancer disparities and racial
discrimination. Yet, there are evident reasons to suspect that racial prejudice contributes to the African
American disparities in breast cancer mortality. Studies have suggested that social injustice maybe be
linked to unequal access of breast cancer treatment. Caplan et al. reported that, African American
women had greater difficulty scheduling follow up appointments than did White women, which
resulted in delays in breast cancer diagnosis. (AACR) This utilization of treatments illustrates a drastic
and distant mortality rate overtime between White and African American women.

The Large Emphasis Mill Puts On Conformity Is Not A Strong...
The large emphasis Mill puts on Conformity, is not a strong enough argument. It is simply displaying
the problem he sees without any clear fixes. By Mill saying that people should be allowed to act on
their own based off of the idea that originality is a valuable element of human affairs because it would
lead to new practices and set examples of more enlightened conduct is not an argument that is going to
persuade someone with different beliefs. Just basing your thinking off this, won t change the mind of
someone who is content with the way life is already. Mill also moves on to evaluate the argument over
what the rightful limits are that should be set to the sovereignty of the individual over himself. This
argument presents the ideas ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore Mill states that inconveniences that are in no way inseparable from unfavorable judgment
by others is the only time that a person should be subjected to this, it also must be for his own good
will, and not affect the interests of others. The popular idea of social contract, that society was
something that people in some way agreed to be a part of, and that defined rights as things people
agreed to have protected by society, and duties as things people would agree to take obligation over,
Mill did not agree with. Due to his disagreement with this idea, the argument that because people
receive certain protection of society, they owed certain conduct in return did not work in favor of his
argument. Mill instead uses the argument that in the case that people do not conduct themselves
appropriately, as long as they don t violate anyone else s rights, but do in some way harm another
individual, they should only be censured by opinions, not by the law in any way. Mill showed his
strong disapproval for the interference of law in people s actions, which were only affecting that
specific individual. This idea meant that if a person was distantly impacted by a person s actions such
as death, or illness due to poor

Changes due to the aging process also need to be addressed. Calcium reabsorption increases especially
in women after the menopause, this decreases bone density. Lean tissue decreases as fat increases with
age; there is also a decline in the percentage of body water meaning that body temperature is more
difficult to control. Thirst decline and decreased renal function means that older people can become
dehydrated (Copeman 1999). The function of the bowel reduces, meaning that the elderly are more
susceptible to indigestion and constipation. The risk of constipation is also increased with Parkinson s
disease (Parkinson s UK 2011). The final consideration is the deterioration of the sensory system.
Taste, smell, vison, pain and touch all decline meaning that food may not be as appealing (Copeman
1999). Exploration of the evidence underpinning the delivery of care In order to determine the
nutritional care of Mrs Gale the nursing process will be used. Nursing was described as a problem
solving process with 4 stages termed; assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation by Yura
amp; Walsh (1967) (cited Aggleton amp; Chalmers 2000). This principle is still used in clinical
practice today and is considered to be best practice (Bloomfield amp; Pegram 2012). By carrying out
an assessment nurses can identify the causes of problems that require medical involvement. Nettina

Descriptive Essay On Pleasant Memory
Pleasant Memory Think about a time that you have been really jubilant, a pleasant memory you have.
Whether that memory was with friends, family, on a school trip or at home, we have all had at least
one time where we have been just ecstatic. For me, one of my joyous memories is my trip to the
Bahamas. To explain my vacation and why it was so delightful, I ll break it up into three parts. First,
the plane ride there, then my actual time at Paradise Island and lastly, the plane ride home. So, first for
the plane ride there. Although we had to leave for the airport pretty early in the morning, around three
or four a.m., I was still so excited to go to Paradise Island. My parents had been there before due to it
being a free trip from father s workplace. They brought back souvenirs and told me all about the trip
and I was eager to go and now I was finally able to. The worst part about the ride there was actually
the wait to get on the plane. I did not have much fun at the airport but, we were only there for a few
hours so it ended up being fine. I was a little nervous, but mostly excited to get on the plane not only
because it was taking me to the Bahamas, but it was also my first time on a plane that I can actually
remember. While on the plane I loved looking out the window and just gazing at the view. I enjoyed
the view but, since I did get up early to get to the airport, I did end up sleeping through some of the
flight. After hours of being on my phone, sipping on soda and

Roman Republic
Rome: Transition from Republic to Empire
Paul A. Bishop
Introduction________________________________________________
Since its collapse, historians have attempted to explain the struggle for power and control over both
the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire that followed. To explain the complexities of the Roman
Republic, the Empire, and their political complexities can be a daunting task. For nearly ten centuries
Rome would rule most of the known world before the fall of the Western Empire (Byzantine) in 476
C.E. Before that fall occurred, a fundamental change would take place that would transform the
original Republic into the Roman Empire. Many factors would be directly and indirectly responsible
for this transition. These would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By that time, the Republic had extended its control throughout the Mediterranean Sea and as far as
Britain. That control would operate under an informal unwritten constitution, and establish the use of
Latin as its official language, while codifying rights, responsibilities, and status under a written law.
Beginning with the Law of the Twelve Tables, Roman jurisprudence would develop over the next one
thousand years into a legal system that would eventually become the early basis for law in continental
Europe. Even English and North American common law owes more than a passing debt to the
Romans. Case law and precedents find their roots in a Latin legal term, stare decisis, meaning to stand
by things decided . The development of a written law was seen as a method of eliminating
indiscriminant application of the law by magistrates and officials upon the lower plebeian class.
The Assemblies
The establishment of a written law set the foundation for a republican government whereby
responsibilities and duties would be divided among various representative assemblies. Their members
would in turn cast votes concerning the action to be taken in
regard to the issues placed before them. Membership in these early assemblies would be limited by
such things as class, income, family ties, and affiliations. The assemblies had various and specific
functions within the Roman republican

Red Cross Culture In America
Senegal, a culture filled country, suffers greatly from poverty, meaning that many families may not be
able to afford or have ways of getting knowledge of health care that could potentially save their lives.
The red cross is one of the many organizations that provide assistance throughout Senegal, however,
not everyone knows or has accesses to the Red Cross. Communication varies throughout Senegal
bringing with it several life threatening things happening in Senegal including, street children,
diseases, and cultural activities that is extremely dangerous for Senegalese citizens. Further acts

children s parents cannot afford their child and their needs (especially education), they will send them
to ¨school¨. ¨Some parents in Senegal and neighboring countries who lack the money to bring up their
children, send them to Islamic schools, or daaras, in Dakar.¨ These schools send the children to the
streets and make them beg for money. They are also be abused, beaten, and even killed. The
conditions in which they stay in are horrendous and cause several of them to become sick. Until a ban
was put into place, this continue to happen and still does to this day. Only 12 teachers have been
known of being prosecuted for doing this, and many more are said to be still doing this to poor
defenseless children. In order to have better health among Senegal there must be better
communication and watching on the citizens and the government. The government seems to have little
control over many things, like Taalibe´s and you can see the lack of communication between the
citizens and government in Senegal. Organizations like the, ¨PPDH¨ have tried to stop this completely,
some have gotten rather far. If further acts are put into place to ensure the safety of the children and
their health, there will be Less likability to have children on the streets. Organizations like the Red
Cross are here to help those parents, providing shelter for those children and better health care, but
without the proper knowledge of these organizations in rural cities there is no way of these parents of
knowing. Providing information on organizations here to help may be better the chances of having the

Moonwalk Paintings
The first painting that caught my attention was Moonwalk made in 1987 by Andy Warhol. This
painting was one of Andy Warhol s final work. There are several versions of this painting, a yellow
version and a pink version. The Yellow version of the Moonwalk painting looks as if the sun is
reflecting off of the astronaut and the flag. The pink version gives a feeling of warmth like some sort
of heat signature is appearing off of the painting itself. The painting gives off a an allusion of a near
three dimensional form with its overlapping of the line and color on the astronaut the flag and the
surface of the moon.
The second painting that attracted my attention at the museum was a painting called Barbe du

How Does Shakespeare Make A Good Character In Romeo And...
To have a good play their must be good characters. Throughout Romeo and Juliet, the characters make
choices and decisions to make the plot more interesting. In Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet,
Shakespeare uses juxtaposition, paradoxes, and oxymoron to make his characters more complex and
meaningful in their actions and their personality
Juliet, the daughter of Lord and Lady Capulet, is sheltered by her family, making her naive. Because
Juliet does not know much about people, she only judges people from what she sees on the outside.
Juliet says, Was ever book containing such vile matter/ so fairly bound? (3.2.83 84). Since Juliet is so
kept away from most of society, she has bad judgement of people from lack of experience. Romeo, in
her eyes, is a handsome man who has been corrupted because he has killed her cousin Tybalt, ... Show

meaningful actions and feelings. Throughout the story of Romeo and Juliet, Shakespeare uses these
types of language constantly, to make the play more interesting. The complex characters in any play

Harmony Theory In Phaedo By Plato
In Phaedo, by Plato, Phaedo recounts an incident with Socrates. The story starts with Socrates opening
up saying that Philosophers should not only accept death, but welcome it. After all, although the body
will pass, the soul is able to live on because it is immortal. He uses a lot of his intuition to back up his
claim, but the main rationale is the Argument of Affinity. He claims that the world is very binary.
Things are either incorporeal and invisible, or not. The body is physical, visible and corporeal. Things
like the body that are visible are part of the sensible world and do not last. The soul however is not. It
is invisible and incorporeal. That is why Socrates believes the soul is immortal. Simmias counters
Socrates claim bringing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Clearly the harmony of the lyre is not immortal. Harmony doesn t survive the lyre, but rather is
dependent upon the lyre. The lyre is similar to the human body and soul. Harmony is divine and
incorporeal. However, the human body is much like the lyre in that it is both corporeal and visible.
Because the lyre is held together in the proper way and at the right degrees, it is able to exist just as
the soul does only through the appropriate ways and make up of the human body. This leads to the
point that just because things are invisible and incorporeal does not necessarily mean they are
immortal. We need to think of the soul as a different type of harmony.
Socrates objects Simmias claims and refutes Harmony Theory many ways, but the one I find most
notable is that Socrates believes that the soul is the master of the human body and directs and controls
the body. Since the soul is eternal and the body is not, the soul controls the body throughout the
entirety of its life. Socrates comments, further, of all parts of a man, can you mention any other part
that rules him than his soul, especially if it is a wise soul? (Plato 132). Because it has this power, it
tells the body what to do, where to move, and how to act. This is different than the harmony and the
lyre. For example, on the other hand, we previously agreed that if the soul were a harmony, it would
never be out of tune with the

Massachusetts Bay Colonies Research Paper
One of the main reasons English citizens moved to America was the prospect of freedom from from
religious persecution. Many colonies were founded solely to be a safe haven for religious minorities.
For instance, Massachusetts was founded by a segment of extreme Puritans called, in hopes of practice
their religion without being harassed. The Separatists believed the Church of England maintained too
many similarities with the Catholic Church, and it was their job, as saints, to purify it. Their religious
beliefs angered many people, especially King James, who was the head of the Church of England at

system set up by the colonists was one of the earliest instances of some sort of government run by the
people, the Bay colony was far from a democracy, due to the exclusive nature of the elections.
Another example of the effect religion had on the Bay colony government was evident through the
fact that certain powers were denied to Even though said leaders had control over who was granted
attendance to church, or those who were deemed to be damned , religious leaders were unable to hold
a position in the government. Since religious leaders and government officials in the Bay colony both
held similar measures of power, this natural system of balances was instated to prevent either religious

The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum by Heinrich Boll Essays
The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum by Heinrich Boll
Authors often use characters within their novels to show the consequences of challenging cultural
boundaries and, in turn, display their own personal concerns. It is not uncommon for characters to
reflect an author s ideology regarding social groups in their contemporary time periods. It is clear that
this is certainly the case with the 1975 novel The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum, (also referred to as
How Violence Develops and Where it Can Lead), written by the German Author, Heinrich Boll. The
Lost Honour is, on the surface, an attack on yellow journalism and the damage it causes to the lives of
the people reported on. However, with a more in depth analysis of the novel we are able to ... Show

Bolls sympathy and admiration for economically lower class citizens, most likely due to the economic
hardship faced by his father, is presented through the hardworking nature of Blum. However, he also
shows the suspicion cast upon Blum because of her comfortable living standards as a result of her
independent ways. This suggests that he is concerned with people s inability to except rises in class
without assuming something sinister or unlawful has occurred in the process. Through the use of his
characters in The Lost Honour and Bolls personal life experiences we are able to see his concerns
regarding the cultural boundaries within Germany.
Boll has demonstrated a sympathetic leaning towards females through the lack of power and rights
given to his title character Katharina Blum in correlation with his own political views. It is clear that
within The Lost Honour it is Blum who we are supposed to sympathise with. This is clear through the
satirical tone used by the less then objective limited third person narrator. One of the things implied
about women, specifically Blum, repeatedly throughout the novel is the fact that they were created to
satisfy men s sexual needs and little else. An example of this is during the questioning of Blum about
her relationship with Gotten as Beizmenne allegedly asked Blum Well, did he fuck you? Blum

Analysis Of The Book Daughter Of Time
Josephine Tey s Daughter of Time is a story that gives the reader a role in being a detective, filling in
Sherlock Holmes s shoes but with a twist. Within the first few chapters we meet Alan Grant, a famous
inspector from England s Scotland Yard. He is confined in a hospital after sustaining an injury, leaving
him immensely bored during his recovery there. Where he would trace and map out ceiling cracks for
hours; after awhile he became acquainted with the nurses that would come in and out of his room. His
actress friend Marta brings printed materials for Grant to read but he would reject them, the reason is
not known. His antsy behavior shows that he craves a mental challenge. Grant eventually got what he
wanted; Marta suggested that he should try solving an old mystery that no one has managed to solve.
She brings him pictures, portraits of faces from different historical eras. During his recovery, he
spends time analyzing the collection that Marta provides him. It s clear that Grant adopts Carr s and
Elton s methodology into solving this case and without either of them it wouldn t be possible. He

Game Theory and Profit
Chapter 11 Consider two firms facing the demand curve P = 50 5Q, where Q = Q1 + Q2. The firms
cost functions are C1(Q1) = 20 + 10Q1 and C2(Q2) = 10 + 12Q2. a. Suppose both firms have entered
the industry. What is the joint profit maximizing level of output? How much will each firm produce?
How would your answer change if the firms have not yet entered the industry? If both firms enter the
market, and they collude, they will face a marginal revenue curve with twice the slope of the demand
curve: MR = 50 10Q. Setting marginal revenue equal to marginal cost (the marginal cost of Firm 1,
since it is lower than that of Firm 2) to determine the profit maximizing quantity, Q: 50 10Q = 10, or
Q = 4. Substituting Q = ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also calculate its profits. The monopolist wants to choose quantity to maximize its profits: max = PQ
C(Q), = (53 Q)(Q) 5Q, or = 48Q Q2. To determine the profit maximizing quantity, set the change in
with respect to the change in Q equal to zero and solve for Q: Substitute the profit maximizing
quantity, Q = 24, into the demand function to find price: 24 = 53 P, or P = $29. Profits are equal to =
TR TC = (29)(24) (5)(24) = $576. b. Suppose a second firm enters the market. Let Q1 be the output of
the first firm and Q2 be the output of the second. Market demand is now given by Q1 + Q2 = 53 P.
Assuming that this second firm has the same costs as the first, write the profits of each firm as
functions of Q1 and Q2. When the second firm enters, price can be written as a function of the output
of two firms: P = 53 Q1 Q2. We may write the profit functions for the two firms: or and or c. Suppose
(as in the Cournot model) that each firm chooses its profit maximizing level of output on the
assumption that its competitor s output is fixed. Find each firm s reaction curve (i.e., the rule that
gives its desired output in terms of its competitor s output). Under the Cournot assumption, Firm 1
treats the output of Firm 2 as a constant in its maximization of profits. Therefore, Firm 1 chooses Q1
to maximize 1 in b with Q2 being treated as a constant.

My Experience At High School
My mom and I were driving home from my club volleyball practice when I broke down in tears due to
stress. High school class registration was coming up and I still had no idea whether or not I wanted to
do band or volleyball in high school. Being a 14 year old in 8th grade, I never thought that I would
have to make such a colossal decision that would affect my life forever. I only had 2 more days to
decide how I would present myself in the new world of high school popularity, and I had no idea
whether I would choose the life of athletics or musical talents. My first instinct wanted to have the
best of both worlds. Maybe in the fall I could be part of the volleyball team and in the spring I could
pick up band and be involved in both organizations. I would be able to play the sport I loved and get
to know the volleyball girls and then in the spring reconnect with my band friends while playing hard
music and getting to know the band program in that way. In my heart I knew this was not going to
happen, there was no way that I could have both athletics and band in my schedule, nor could I truly
be happy with this decision. I would miss out on the best part of band, the marching and athletic part,
and spring for volleyball is the time when the team bonds the most because of the awful hell of off
season. I just couldn t pick this option, no matter how much I craved to have both volleyball and band
in my life together. For the majority of 8th grade I had my heart set on playing

The Black Woman By Simone De Beauvoir Essay
Black women in America today are embracing their natural hair like no other time. The term natural is
often defined differently to the natural hair community than other races. We as black women are
making it a point that our hair is beautiful in the way that each hair follicle grows into the various hair
textures among us. For many African American women, natural hair is a way to protest society s
expectations of beauty and create a new standard of what it means. This includes the right to wear one
s natural hair as it grows without chemicals to process it and conform to society s expectations.
Consequently, the idea that natural hair is unprofessional in any setting is baffling. The ultimate goal
intended here is to further analyze the idea of natural hair as a part of culture and thus a big part of the
identity of the black woman. I will first turn to Simone de Beauvoir s The Second Sex to which she
argues that every force in society conspires to deprive women of their own individuality and compress
the female gender into a category only capable of mere housework, bearing children, and being
sexually submissive to their partners. Then I will focus on W. E. B DuBois text The Souls of Black
Folks and discuss his idea of double consciousness to further the complexity of the identity of the
black woman. These two ideas will allow me to demonstrate that working African American women
are a product of subjectivity in corporate America because it is a world dictated by

people can recall many moments from their childhood lives, but don t possess the cognitive ability to

Mason Evans Jr from the age of 6 to 18 years. The film was written and directed by Richard Linklater,
who took approximately 12 years to complete the task of composing the film. Hence, its writing and

Stricter Laws On Sex Offenders Essay
Enforcing stricter laws on sex offenders will ensure better protection for the people of America. The
laws of sex offenders have evolved due to the high number of sexual offenses that could have been
prevented if the sanctions of sex violators were stricter or at least had underwent some rehabilitation.
Warning people about the level of crimes in the area. In argument, laws have been effective in
reducing rate of sexual offenses and increased public safety of the residents. In 1986, a tragic
unexpectedly occurred when a 19 years old freshman college student, Jeanne Clery, was raped and

A public tragedy often leads to measures being taken to avoid similar tragic events in the future. In
2006, proposition #83 was officially passed by 70% of California voters for the protection of children
from repeat sex offenders who had been convicted before. The story behind why the proposition # 83
was originally passed is also a another tragic. Jessica Lunsford, only nine years old, was kidnapped,
raped, and murdered by a convicted sex offender named John Couey who was not under the police
surveillance and he had relapsed into the same criminal behavior, after receiving sanctions that was
not strict enough. Stricter sanctions could had hold him still in jail. If he received rehabilitation, the
chances of him relapsing into the crime would had been lower according to the data showing a
reduction in recidivism therapy. According to Weinrott Blackshaw (1989), the recidivism rates for
offenders who were treated were reduced compared to recidivism rates for offenders who were not
treated. With better police surveillance, the crime could have been prevented if the sex offender was
on guard and on lifetime global positioning (prop 83). After proposition was passed, officers are now
ordered to keep track of sex offenders and they are forbidden from entering in areas near schools and
parks where kids are usually present. It also increased the penalties for repeated sex offenders.
Because of this new law, children are now better protected from sex

Values Of Anglo Saxon Values
Anglo Saxon Values that still hold true Today. What are values? Values are things which are important
to one, and will determine one s priorities. During the Anglo Saxon era, there were values which
remain the same till this day. Loyalty and courage play a big roll in today s values, as much as it did
during the Anglo Saxon time. One of the Anglo Saxon values still holding true today will have to be
loyalty. One might wonder, what exactly is loyalty? Loyalty is being faithful to something or
someone, or in shorter words, always sticking to a person or thing no matter what the situation is.
Beowulf shows his loyalty when he states he will not shift a foot (2524) because he cannot break his
word. Wiglaf understands this loyalty to one s reputation and how it is linked to being a warrior. (2890
1) A warrior will sooner die than live a life of shame Beowulf hands Wiglaf his collar of gold, his war
shirt, and his helmet and tells him to use them well showing an act of loyalty. Is the public loyal? Do
the people show loyalty? If the people think about it, the public can all relate to Beowulf. Every
person must have a person or a thing who they are loyal to. It doesn t even have to be between people,
one can be loyal to what they put their self into, maybe school or work. If a person gives all his loyalty
to their career or job then it will all pay off. For example, in the Dream of the Rood, (123 124) I
prayed to that tree with ardent zeal, where I was alone with few

Theme Of Dreams In Troilus And Criseyde
Chaucer also demonstrates that dreams are layered with meaning and may serve as a tool for an
intertextual analysis of literature and poetry when amalgamated into poems themselves. It encourages
metareflection and the use of dream visions within Chaucer s work alternates between a formulaic
device or a significant and divine vision into the future. It becomes apparent that the dream is an
effective and fundamental device for writing narratives that question reality, faith, and agency. The
dreams in Troilus and Criseyde take various forms, altering shape under careful observation.
Criseyde s dream is seemingly a prophetic somnium, which predict future events or divulge hidden
truths of the past. In addition, it can also be strongly argued that this dream is fabricated from the
subconscious of Criseyde as she is already starting to love Troilus, however, is not wholly ready to
acknowledge this, even to herself. These two interpretations add further evidence of ambiguity in
Chaucer s work as it remains uncertain which one was intended by the author. Perhaps Chaucer too
was questioning the established attitudes of his contemporary society in such a way that can be seen to
predict future theories of human understanding and dream interpretations.
Boccaccio s indifferent mentions of the heart is referenced to internal thoughts or in relation to the
affliction of love sickness. However, there are three instances where Troilo refers to Criseida as heart
of my body, and two where Criseida returns this expression. The wording implies the exchange of
hearts, a motif only included in Troilo s dream of Criseida and the boar. (VII. 24) Boccaccio s desire
may have been for his Italian readers to grasp the literal implication of how the beast s attack on the
woman s heart will hurt the hero s heart because her heart is also his vice versa. Chaucer explores this
motif in Criseyde s dream of the white eagle, which according to Medieval allegory and moral,
received both favourable and unfavourable interpretations.
Chaucer depicts a characteristically fierce bird of prey who viciously devours flesh with severe
ferocity: the longe clawes that rente her breast initially threatens Criseyde with physical harm. (II. 925

Gender Identity And Its Effect On The Way People
Society has a tremendous effect on the way people see themselves as well as the way they see others.
When it comes to sex and gender, these two words are used interchangeably, even though they are
different. Sex is what a person is biologically born with, whereas Gender is how a person is seen in
society, their roles, and their accepted behavior. Gender identity is a person s inner sense of being
male or female and a display of that. Jayme Poisson writes an article, Parents Keep Child s Gender
Secret, on two parents that decided to raise their newborn child genderless. The couple also allows
their other children to display whichever gender they choose, not conforming with how they re
expected to look and act based on their sex, (Poisson 366). Kwame Anthony Appiah describes the idea
of being able to respect the traditions of others without having to agree with or understand them in
Making Conversation . Women and men are, not surprisingly, treated very differently in society. In
Human Dignity Francis Fukuyama writes about equality and the essence that humans possess. Society
creates a stigma for men who act feminine and women who act masculine, creating a negative impact
on ones gender identity, specifically on the description of gender roles, and how certain products are

experiences of nurses grief after patient death
Experience of Grief Following Patient Death: A Concept Analysis Karen D. Panganiban Resurrection
University Abstract This is a concept analysis on the experiences of grief of registered nurses in the
fields of oncology, pediatric ICU and adult ICU after a patient dies. The paper describes the reactions
of nurses and how they are able to cope with grief. It also discussed the available resources that they
use within their institution in response to the death of the patient. The concept analysis method that
was used was based on: epistemological, pragmatic, linguistic and logical principles. Extensive
literature search was done to review the concept mentioned. The need to recognize the grief of nurses

2009). Nurses view that it is essential to form a relationship with the patient in order to provide care
for the dying. It depends on the level of engagement of the nurse on how easily or how hard she can
cope with the lost a patient (Shorter Stayt 2009). Some nurses immersed themselves and put
themselves on the patient s shoes in order to develop that connection often times they would even
asked relatives how the patient was like when he/she was still well. The significance to the staff is also
influenced more if both the caregiver and the patient shared the same demographics and culture. On
the contrary some nurses try to distant themselves and try to avoid being too close to the patient and
the family to shield them from grief. Nurses view patient death in two ways (a). Good death and (b).
Bad death.( shorter Stayt 2009). A good death is when the nurse is prepared and knows that death is
imminent. The nurse has an idea on how the course of the treatment will be,it is therefore deemed less
traumatic for them. Bad death happens when the demise of the patient is sudden. Feelings of regret
and guilt plagues the caregiver, often wondering what could have been done to avoid death. Pragmatic
The operationalized view regarding this concept can be understood on the implication of the analysis
on nursing practice. If the nurse had a positive experience during initial death experience or support

Compare And Contrast Brave New World And 1984
George Orwell s dystopian classic 1984 was a warning for the whole world to not fully trust your
government. Aldous Huxley wrote Brave New World in 1931, almost two decades before 1984 , and
not too long after the first world war, at the beginning of the Great Depression, and a devastating flu
virus that had claimed millions of lives. Though both stories have been written in a time unlike today,
people should still be frightened of the possibility of becoming true. Unfortunately, it s already too late
to worry about it becoming true because it s the world s reality. Both Brave New World and 1984 are
very close representations of the modern world because of politics, and technological and social
aspects of the modern day world.

The Real Sex Addiction Essay
In this time period, there are many different disorders and illnesses that go unnoticed, and unknown.
Society creates stereotypes about illnesses such as obsessive compulsive disorder, clinical Depression,
and many other mental afflictions. Another that seems to remain controversial and misunderstood is
sexual compulsive behaviors. Many see it as an excuse to act a certain way, or think a certain way; in
reality it is a serious mental disorder that can cause devastating effects on the people that are
consumed by them and the people who are around them. Something that is however, known about
sexual compulsive behaviors is that there are certain things that can emotionally damage a person and
cause them to have these behaviors. The three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Using the term sexual compulsive behaviors is more appropriate because it addresses the symptoms
that some term as sex addiction , but use a term that is more effective in describing what it really is
and how it should be treated. A person uses sexual compulsive behaviors because they lack in some
other area, such a coping mechanisms, or because they have insecure personal attachments. Something
has to cause these behaviors, they aren t caused by any chemical like drugs and alcohol.
Another major argument about this subject arises because it is in human nature to feel the need to
reproduce and to have sex. This makes treating the problem baffling , because it goes against human
nature to completely cut out all forms of sex. This is another reason why sex addiction is incorrect
terminology, because sex isn t hurtful to oneself, however it does become a problem when it starts to
affect a person s life in detrimental ways. It only becomes a problem when it is out of control. It is
normal for some people to have a higher sex drive then others, and it is healthy to want to have
multiple partners. The problem comes into play when it is needed for emotional purposes, to need
validation and affection. Only then is it considered unhealthy, because people should have secure
relationships, and coping mechanisms that can help them get the feelings they need. Just like many
other compulsive behaviors, sexual compulsive behaviors can be treated, just not

Who Invented The Atomic Bomb
Throughout all of history, humans have been creating weapons for waging war against one and
another or to protect something that is important to them. Over time, the weapons that humans use
have gone from just a simple wooden club, to a forged sword, and to high power firearms. However,
throughout history none of the weapons created led to a stalemate among any of the world s super
powers until the mid twentieth century with the development of the atomic bomb by the United States
and the Soviet Union. The reason why the development of the atomic bomb led to a stalemate has to
do with the idea of mutually assured destruction. The idea behind mutually assured destruction is that
if one country attacks with atomic weapons then the country being ... Show more content on

There are several types of atomic bombs and the types changed based on how the bomb will achieve
critical mass. The first type of an atomic bomb would be the gun type fission bomb which was drop on
the city of Hiroshima during World War II. Scientists and the military believed that the gun type bomb
was so reliable that they did not test it before dropping it on the city of Hiroshima. The gun type bomb
contained two piece of uranium at both ends of a barrel, and when the two piece of uranium are
brought together it creates a chain reaction leading it to reach supercritical mass. [5] The second type
of an atomic bomb would be the implosion fission bomb which was drop on the city of Nagasaki and
tested during the project Trinity. The implosion type bomb contained a neutron core, a plutonium pit, a
uranium tamper, and a layer of burning explosive. [5] Therefore, when the neutron core is crushed it
releases neutrons into the plutonium pit which creates a chain reaction leading it to reach supercritical
mass. [5] The third type of an atomic bomb would be the boosted fission bomb which was tested
during Operation Greenhouse. The boosted fusion bomb utilized the same layer system from the
implosion bomb, but in the fissile core a small amount of deuterium/tritium gas is added to cause the
boost in blast yield. [5] The fourth type of an atomic bomb would be the staged radiation implosion
bomb

Aspirin Therapy For Vascular Disorders
Aspirin Therapy for Vascular Disorders
Physicians across the country agree that daily use of aspirin for prevention of vascular disorders is
controversial (Neale, 2014). Dr. J. Jaques Carter of Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel
Deaconess Medical Center in Boston admits that he used to recommend a daily aspirin to all of his
middle aged adult patients, regardless of vascular disease risk factors being present, as it was standard
procedure at the time (Neale, 2014). Dr. Len Horovitz of Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City
explains that the FDA guidelines regarding routine prescription of aspirin for men and women over
age 55 and 65 respectively have changed as studies have demonstrated the greater risk of GI bleeding

This paper will explore the benefits and risks of routine use of aspirin therapy in the treatment of
vascular disease and prevention of its concurrent complications. According to Burchum Rosenthal
(2016) five major risk factors for heart disease are age, gender, cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and
smoking status . If you fit this profile, a daily aspirin might be recommended as you are at high risk
for having your first heart attack, may have had a heart attack or stroke in the past and as long as you
do not have a history of bleeding or clotting disorders (Mayo Clinic, 2016). The benefit of a daily
aspirin would be to prevent platelets from sticking together and forming a blockage where a vessel is
damaged due to disease or lifestyle or may be narrowed from fat deposits or atherosclerosis (Mayo
Clinic, 2016). VanWormer et al. (2012) proposed that aspirin therapy is actually under utilized by high
risk patients and over utilized by those at low risk for cardiovascular disease where the risk of
bleeding is greater than the possible benefits. Having limited data regarding the sociodemographic
variables of aspirin use, VanWormer et al. (2012) set about creating a study to evaluate these variables
among adults in Wisconsin without a history of cardiovascular disease. Using guidelines for aspirin
use established by the US Preventive Services

Short, Long And Sentence Length
The issue of sentence length leaves many writers scratching their heads. Short, long, medium length
sentences which are better? Does it make a difference? Why should we pay attention to sentence
length anyway?
For one, it adds as much meaning to a text as the words you choose. Sentence length conveys a
specific mood and rhythm and matches the actions being described. For example, if you were writing
a tense car race, shorter sentences may help heighten the suspense of the scene. On the other hand,
longer sentences may work better when writing about complex philosophical abstractions.
Let s look at a couple examples.

  • 2. Comparing Republic And Plato s Republic The central idea of both philosophers writing is that the citizens of a state should preserve good, and act justly and fairly, and their rulers should abide by the rules and regulations of the state and treat their fellow citizens in the same way. Both philosophers claim that being good and doing good leads to happiness the ultimate good in human life and a life connected with money, pleasure, and all sorts of materialistic possessions is an unrealistic life. This paper will outline and further elaborate the major similarities and differences between the way these philosophers perceive the philosophical anthropology and the political philosophy based on their time, context, and the society. Plato claims that law does not make any particular class in the city outstandingly happy but it spreads happiness throughout the city by bringing the citizens into harmony with each other through persuasion or compulsion and through sharing the benefits with each other. The costs of the program would be minimal since it would primarily be used for consults to product improvement after initial prototypes or for ideas for new developments. A big problem with its gaming system is that compared to other big name consoles like the XBOX, its product does not fully utilize it computing power thereby limiting its capabilities. As consumer needs change the console has gone from being just a simple gaming product to an in home entertainment system and Sony should push it to it max. This can be said for its mobile offerings are well as the company fails to optimize its products for premium performance; a fault which has led to dwindling mobile sales. The company needs to develop its peripheral services such as its TV offerings as well as other attention holding services which would keep consumers glued to its products. It needs premium original products and services offered through its devices, thereby tying in at least two of its big sectors; entertainment and gaming. It is something of a farce that a company as big in the entertainment world as Sony has only been able to provide one original TV show for its PlayStation providers whereas companies like Netflix are spending upwards of $6 Billion on content development. Something Google has done very well is use the data it receives from its product offerings to continuously develop and advance technology for its consumers. Sony needs to learn to do this as well ... Today, woman with breast cancer have a 90% chance of surviving for five years post diagnosis. However, African American women have a national survival rate of 79%. Socioeconomic barriers and lack of access to health services have crippled African American women in breast cancer advancements. Studies have show that African American women tend to be diagnosed with a higher stage of cancer because of the delay of being tested until it is late in the stage. African American women in contrast to their white counterparts generally have a more aggressive stage of breast cancer and therefore a shorter survival rate. These startling statistics bring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Much advancement has been made for the treatment of breast cancer, yet the object of the matter is its utilization. Lack of recommendation for screening mammography, poor access to health care and cultural beliefs discouraging women from seeking care for a potential breast problem have each been linked to disparate breast cancer outcomes between African American and White women. (American Association for Cancer Research) Even though race based disparities have been explored in breast cancer outcomes, direct evidence linking these disparities to social injustice is deficient. Few studies have been reported examining the correlation between breast cancer disparities and racial discrimination. Yet, there are evident reasons to suspect that racial prejudice contributes to the African American disparities in breast cancer mortality. Studies have suggested that social injustice maybe be linked to unequal access of breast cancer treatment. Caplan et al. reported that, African American women had greater difficulty scheduling follow up appointments than did White women, which resulted in delays in breast cancer diagnosis. (AACR) This utilization of treatments illustrates a drastic and distant mortality rate overtime between White and African American women. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is simply displaying the problem he sees without any clear fixes. By Mill saying that people should be allowed to act on their own based off of the idea that originality is a valuable element of human affairs because it would lead to new practices and set examples of more enlightened conduct is not an argument that is going to persuade someone with different beliefs. Just basing your thinking off this, won t change the mind of someone who is content with the way life is already. Therefore Mill states that inconveniences that are in no way inseparable from unfavorable judgment by others is the only time that a person should be subjected to this, it also must be for his own good will, and not affect the interests of others. The popular idea of social contract, that society was something that people in some way agreed to be a part of, and that defined rights as things people agreed to have protected by society, and duties as things people would agree to take obligation over, Mill did not agree with. Due to his disagreement with this idea, the argument that because people receive certain protection of society, they owed certain conduct in return did not work in favor of his argument. Mill instead uses the argument that in the case that people do not conduct themselves appropriately, as long as they don t violate anyone else s rights, but do in some way harm another individual, they should only be censured by opinions, not by the law in any way. Mill showed his strong disapproval for the interference of law in people s actions, which were only affecting that specific individual. • 7. Descriptive Essay On Pleasant Memory Pleasant Memory Think about a time that you have been really jubilant, a pleasant memory you have. Whether that memory was with friends, family, on a school trip or at home, we have all had at least one time where we have been just ecstatic. For me, one of my joyous memories is my trip to the Bahamas. To explain my vacation and why it was so delightful, I ll break it up into three parts. First, the plane ride there, then my actual time at Paradise Island and lastly, the plane ride home. So, first for the plane ride there. Although we had to leave for the airport pretty early in the morning, around three or four a.m., I was still so excited to go to Paradise Island. My parents had been there before due to it being a free trip from father s workplace. They brought back souvenirs and told me all about the trip and I was eager to go and now I was finally able to. The worst part about the ride there was actually the wait to get on the plane. I did not have much fun at the airport but, we were only there for a few hours so it ended up being fine. I was a little nervous, but mostly excited to get on the plane not only because it was taking me to the Bahamas, but it was also my first time on a plane that I can actually remember. While on the plane I loved looking out the window and just gazing at the view. I enjoyed the view but, since I did get up early to get to the airport, I did end up sleeping through some of the flight. After hours of being on my phone, sipping on soda and ... • 9. Roman Republic Rome: Transition from Republic to Empire Paul A. Bishop Introduction________________________________________________ Since its collapse, historians have attempted to explain the struggle for power and control over both the Roman Republic and the Roman Empire that followed. To explain the complexities of the Roman Republic, the Empire, and their political complexities can be a daunting task. For nearly ten centuries Rome would rule most of the known world before the fall of the Western Empire (Byzantine) in 476 C.E. Before that fall occurred, a fundamental change would take place that would transform the original Republic into the Roman Empire. Many factors would be directly and indirectly responsible for this transition. These would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By that time, the Republic had extended its control throughout the Mediterranean Sea and as far as Britain. That control would operate under an informal unwritten constitution, and establish the use of Latin as its official language, while codifying rights, responsibilities, and status under a written law. Beginning with the Law of the Twelve Tables, Roman jurisprudence would develop over the next one thousand years into a legal system that would eventually become the early basis for law in continental Europe. Even English and North American common law owes more than a passing debt to the Romans. Case law and precedents find their roots in a Latin legal term, stare decisis, meaning to stand by things decided . The development of a written law was seen as a method of eliminating indiscriminant application of the law by magistrates and officials upon the lower plebeian class. The Assemblies The establishment of a written law set the foundation for a republican government whereby responsibilities and duties would be divided among various representative assemblies. Their members would in turn cast votes concerning the action to be taken in regard to the issues placed before them. Membership in these early assemblies would be limited by such things as class, income, family ties, and affiliations. The assemblies had various and specific functions within the Roman republican ... • 13. Harmony Theory In Phaedo By Plato In Phaedo, by Plato, Phaedo recounts an incident with Socrates. The story starts with Socrates opening up saying that Philosophers should not only accept death, but welcome it. After all, although the body will pass, the soul is able to live on because it is immortal. He uses a lot of his intuition to back up his claim, but the main rationale is the Argument of Affinity. He claims that the world is very binary. Things are either incorporeal and invisible, or not. The body is physical, visible and corporeal. Things like the body that are visible are part of the sensible world and do not last. The soul however is not. It is invisible and incorporeal. That is why Socrates believes the soul is immortal. Simmias counters Socrates claim bringing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Clearly the harmony of the lyre is not immortal. Harmony doesn t survive the lyre, but rather is dependent upon the lyre. The lyre is similar to the human body and soul. Harmony is divine and incorporeal. However, the human body is much like the lyre in that it is both corporeal and visible. Because the lyre is held together in the proper way and at the right degrees, it is able to exist just as the soul does only through the appropriate ways and make up of the human body. This leads to the point that just because things are invisible and incorporeal does not necessarily mean they are immortal. We need to think of the soul as a different type of harmony. Socrates objects Simmias claims and refutes Harmony Theory many ways, but the one I find most notable is that Socrates believes that the soul is the master of the human body and directs and controls the body. Since the soul is eternal and the body is not, the soul controls the body throughout the entirety of its life. Socrates comments, further, of all parts of a man, can you mention any other part that rules him than his soul, especially if it is a wise soul? (Plato 132). Because it has this power, it tells the body what to do, where to move, and how to act. This is different than the harmony and the lyre. For example, on the other hand, we previously agreed that if the soul were a harmony, it would never be out of tune with the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 19. The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum by Heinrich Boll Essays The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum by Heinrich Boll Authors often use characters within their novels to show the consequences of challenging cultural boundaries and, in turn, display their own personal concerns. It is not uncommon for characters to reflect an author s ideology regarding social groups in their contemporary time periods. It is clear that this is certainly the case with the 1975 novel The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum, (also referred to as How Violence Develops and Where it Can Lead), written by the German Author, Heinrich Boll. The Lost Honour is, on the surface, an attack on yellow journalism and the damage it causes to the lives of the people reported on. Bolls sympathy and admiration for economically lower class citizens, most likely due to the economic hardship faced by his father, is presented through the hardworking nature of Blum. However, he also shows the suspicion cast upon Blum because of her comfortable living standards as a result of her independent ways. This suggests that he is concerned with people s inability to except rises in class without assuming something sinister or unlawful has occurred in the process. Through the use of his characters in The Lost Honour and Bolls personal life experiences we are able to see his concerns regarding the cultural boundaries within Germany. Boll has demonstrated a sympathetic leaning towards females through the lack of power and rights given to his title character Katharina Blum in correlation with his own political views. It is clear that within The Lost Honour it is Blum who we are supposed to sympathise with. This is clear through the satirical tone used by the less then objective limited third person narrator. One of the things implied about women, specifically Blum, repeatedly throughout the novel is the fact that they were created to satisfy men s sexual needs and little else. He is confined in a hospital after sustaining an injury, leaving him immensely bored during his recovery there. Where he would trace and map out ceiling cracks for hours; after awhile he became acquainted with the nurses that would come in and out of his room. His actress friend Marta brings printed materials for Grant to read but he would reject them, the reason is not known. His antsy behavior shows that he craves a mental challenge. Grant eventually got what he wanted; Marta suggested that he should try solving an old mystery that no one has managed to solve. She brings him pictures, portraits of faces from different historical eras. During his recovery, he spends time analyzing the collection that Marta provides him. It s clear that Grant adopts Carr s and Elton s methodology into solving this case and without either of them it wouldn t be possible. He came across a picture of Richard III, who had accusations of killing his two nephews; his Brother Edward IV s sons. It is evident that Grant takes pride in his skills as an inspector and speculates that Edward III is not the perpetrator of the murders. Suppose both firms have entered the industry. What is the joint profit maximizing level of output? How much will each firm produce? How would your answer change if the firms have not yet entered the industry? If both firms enter the market, and they collude, they will face a marginal revenue curve with twice the slope of the demand curve: MR = 50 10Q. High school class registration was coming up and I still had no idea whether or not I wanted to do band or volleyball in high school. Being a 14 year old in 8th grade, I never thought that I would have to make such a colossal decision that would affect my life forever. I only had 2 more days to decide how I would present myself in the new world of high school popularity, and I had no idea whether I would choose the life of athletics or musical talents. • 24. The Black Woman By Simone De Beauvoir Essay Black women in America today are embracing their natural hair like no other time. The term natural is often defined differently to the natural hair community than other races. We as black women are making it a point that our hair is beautiful in the way that each hair follicle grows into the various hair textures among us. For many African American women, natural hair is a way to protest society s expectations of beauty and create a new standard of what it means. This includes the right to wear one s natural hair as it grows without chemicals to process it and conform to society s expectations. Consequently, the idea that natural hair is unprofessional in any setting is baffling. The ultimate goal intended here is to further analyze the idea of natural hair as a part of culture and thus a big part of the identity of the black woman. I will first turn to Simone de Beauvoir s The Second Sex to which she argues that every force in society conspires to deprive women of their own individuality and compress the female gender into a category only capable of mere housework, bearing children, and being sexually submissive to their partners. Then I will focus on W. E. B DuBois text The Souls of Black Folks and discuss his idea of double consciousness to further the complexity of the identity of the black woman. These two ideas will allow me to demonstrate that working African American women are a product of subjectivity in corporate America because it is a world dictated by ... During the Anglo Saxon era, there were values which remain the same till this day. Loyalty and courage play a big roll in today s values, as much as it did during the Anglo Saxon time. One of the Anglo Saxon values still holding true today will have to be loyalty. One might wonder, what exactly is loyalty? Loyalty is being faithful to something or someone, or in shorter words, always sticking to a person or thing no matter what the situation is. Beowulf shows his loyalty when he states he will not shift a foot (2524) because he cannot break his word. Wiglaf understands this loyalty to one s reputation and how it is linked to being a warrior. (2890 1) A warrior will sooner die than live a life of shame Beowulf hands Wiglaf his collar of gold, his war shirt, and his helmet and tells him to use them well showing an act of loyalty. Is the public loyal? Do the people show loyalty? If the people think about it, the public can all relate to Beowulf. Every person must have a person or a thing who they are loyal to. It doesn t even have to be between people, one can be loyal to what they put their self into, maybe school or work. If a person gives all his loyalty to their career or job then it will all pay off. • 32. Theme Of Dreams In Troilus And Criseyde Chaucer also demonstrates that dreams are layered with meaning and may serve as a tool for an intertextual analysis of literature and poetry when amalgamated into poems themselves. It encourages metareflection and the use of dream visions within Chaucer s work alternates between a formulaic device or a significant and divine vision into the future. It becomes apparent that the dream is an effective and fundamental device for writing narratives that question reality, faith, and agency. The dreams in Troilus and Criseyde take various forms, altering shape under careful observation. Criseyde s dream is seemingly a prophetic somnium, which predict future events or divulge hidden truths of the past. In addition, it can also be strongly argued that this dream is fabricated from the subconscious of Criseyde as she is already starting to love Troilus, however, is not wholly ready to acknowledge this, even to herself. These two interpretations add further evidence of ambiguity in Chaucer s work as it remains uncertain which one was intended by the author. Perhaps Chaucer too was questioning the established attitudes of his contemporary society in such a way that can be seen to predict future theories of human understanding and dream interpretations. Boccaccio s indifferent mentions of the heart is referenced to internal thoughts or in relation to the affliction of love sickness. However, there are three instances where Troilo refers to Criseida as heart of my body, and two where Criseida returns this expression. The wording implies the exchange of hearts, a motif only included in Troilo s dream of Criseida and the boar. (VII. 24) Boccaccio s desire may have been for his Italian readers to grasp the literal implication of how the beast s attack on the woman s heart will hurt the hero s heart because her heart is also his vice versa. Chaucer explores this motif in Criseyde s dream of the white eagle, which according to Medieval allegory and moral, received both favourable and unfavourable interpretations. Chaucer depicts a characteristically fierce bird of prey who viciously devours flesh with severe ferocity: the longe clawes that rente her breast initially threatens Criseyde with physical harm. Thus, this gives Anakin the reasoning that he is above the Jedi s rules. His romance with Senator Padme Amidala, questionable at best, stems from the resentment he holds for his fellow Jedi. Where are the parallels between Anakin and Vader? In the Original trilogy, Obi Wan showed admiration towards the Jedi that was Anakin Skywalker, but this is not the cunning warrior that Old Ben described to Luke. In Attack of the Clones Anakin s fall was painfully obvious, as it was written, acted, and directed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 39. Gender Identity And Its Effect On The Way People Society has a tremendous effect on the way people see themselves as well as the way they see others. When it comes to sex and gender, these two words are used interchangeably, even though they are different. Sex is what a person is biologically born with, whereas Gender is how a person is seen in society, their roles, and their accepted behavior. Gender identity is a person s inner sense of being male or female and a display of that. Jayme Poisson writes an article, Parents Keep Child s Gender Secret, on two parents that decided to raise their newborn child genderless. The couple also allows their other children to display whichever gender they choose, not conforming with how they re expected to look and act based on their sex, (Poisson 366). Kwame Anthony Appiah describes the idea of being able to respect the traditions of others without having to agree with or understand them in Making Conversation . Women and men are, not surprisingly, treated very differently in society. In Human Dignity Francis Fukuyama writes about equality and the essence that humans possess. Society creates a stigma for men who act feminine and women who act masculine, creating a negative impact on ones gender identity, specifically on the description of gender roles, and how certain products are marketed. Gender identity in society is seen as important and necessary. So much so, that raising a genderless child is seen as taboo. In Poisson s article, she introduces parents Kathy Witterick and ... Nurses view that it is essential to form a relationship with the patient in order to provide care for the dying. It depends on the level of engagement of the nurse on how easily or how hard she can cope with the lost a patient (Shorter Stayt 2009). Some nurses immersed themselves and put themselves on the patient s shoes in order to develop that connection often times they would even asked relatives how the patient was like when he/she was still well. The significance to the staff is also influenced more if both the caregiver and the patient shared the same demographics and culture. On the contrary some nurses try to distant themselves and try to avoid being too close to the patient and the family to shield them from grief. Nurses view patient death in two ways (a). Good death and (b). Bad death.( shorter Stayt 2009). A good death is when the nurse is prepared and knows that death is imminent. The nurse has an idea on how the course of the treatment will be,it is therefore deemed less traumatic for them. Bad death happens when the demise of the patient is sudden. Feelings of regret and guilt plagues the caregiver, often wondering what could have been done to avoid death. Pragmatic The operationalized view regarding this concept can be understood on the implication of the analysis on nursing practice. If the nurse had a positive experience during initial death experience or support they don t feel devastated and traumatized they carry that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Society creates stereotypes about illnesses such as obsessive compulsive disorder, clinical Depression, and many other mental afflictions. Another that seems to remain controversial and misunderstood is sexual compulsive behaviors. Many see it as an excuse to act a certain way, or think a certain way; in reality it is a serious mental disorder that can cause devastating effects on the people that are consumed by them and the people who are around them. Something that is however, known about sexual compulsive behaviors is that there are certain things that can emotionally damage a person and cause them to have these behaviors. The three ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Using the term sexual compulsive behaviors is more appropriate because it addresses the symptoms that some term as sex addiction , but use a term that is more effective in describing what it really is and how it should be treated. A person uses sexual compulsive behaviors because they lack in some other area, such a coping mechanisms, or because they have insecure personal attachments. Something has to cause these behaviors, they aren t caused by any chemical like drugs and alcohol. Another major argument about this subject arises because it is in human nature to feel the need to reproduce and to have sex. This makes treating the problem baffling , because it goes against human nature to completely cut out all forms of sex. This is another reason why sex addiction is incorrect terminology, because sex isn t hurtful to oneself, however it does become a problem when it starts to affect a person s life in detrimental ways. It only becomes a problem when it is out of control. It is normal for some people to have a higher sex drive then others, and it is healthy to want to have multiple partners. The problem comes into play when it is needed for emotional purposes, to need validation and affection. Only then is it considered unhealthy, because people should have secure relationships, and coping mechanisms that can help them get the feelings they need. Just like many other compulsive behaviors, sexual compulsive behaviors can be treated, just not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Who Invented The Atomic Bomb Throughout all of history, humans have been creating weapons for waging war against one and another or to protect something that is important to them. Over time, the weapons that humans use have gone from just a simple wooden club, to a forged sword, and to high power firearms. However, throughout history none of the weapons created led to a stalemate among any of the world s super powers until the mid twentieth century with the development of the atomic bomb by the United States and the Soviet Union. The reason why the development of the atomic bomb led to a stalemate has to do with the idea of mutually assured destruction. The idea behind mutually assured destruction is that if one country attacks with atomic weapons then the country being ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There are several types of atomic bombs and the types changed based on how the bomb will achieve critical mass. The first type of an atomic bomb would be the gun type fission bomb which was drop on the city of Hiroshima during World War II. Scientists and the military believed that the gun type bomb was so reliable that they did not test it before dropping it on the city of Hiroshima. The gun type bomb contained two piece of uranium at both ends of a barrel, and when the two piece of uranium are brought together it creates a chain reaction leading it to reach supercritical mass. [5] The second type of an atomic bomb would be the implosion fission bomb which was drop on the city of Nagasaki and tested during the project Trinity. The implosion type bomb contained a neutron core, a plutonium pit, a uranium tamper, and a layer of burning explosive. [5] Therefore, when the neutron core is crushed it releases neutrons into the plutonium pit which creates a chain reaction leading it to reach supercritical mass. [5] The third type of an atomic bomb would be the boosted fission bomb which was tested during Operation Greenhouse. The boosted fusion bomb utilized the same layer system from the implosion bomb, but in the fissile core a small amount of deuterium/tritium gas is added to cause the boost in blast yield. Aspirin Therapy For Vascular Disorders Aspirin Therapy for Vascular Disorders Physicians across the country agree that daily use of aspirin for prevention of vascular disorders is controversial (Neale, 2014). Dr. J. Jaques Carter of Harvard Medical School and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston admits that he used to recommend a daily aspirin to all of his middle aged adult patients, regardless of vascular disease risk factors being present, as it was standard procedure at the time (Neale, 2014). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This paper will explore the benefits and risks of routine use of aspirin therapy in the treatment of vascular disease and prevention of its concurrent complications. According to Burchum Rosenthal (2016) five major risk factors for heart disease are age, gender, cholesterol levels, blood pressure, and smoking status . If you fit this profile, a daily aspirin might be recommended as you are at high risk for having your first heart attack, may have had a heart attack or stroke in the past and as long as you do not have a history of bleeding or clotting disorders (Mayo Clinic, 2016). The benefit of a daily aspirin would be to prevent platelets from sticking together and forming a blockage where a vessel is damaged due to disease or lifestyle or may be narrowed from fat deposits or atherosclerosis (Mayo Clinic, 2016). VanWormer et al. (2012) proposed that aspirin therapy is actually under utilized by high risk patients and over utilized by those at low risk for cardiovascular disease where the risk of bleeding is greater than the possible benefits. Having limited data regarding the sociodemographic variables of aspirin use, VanWormer et al. (2012) set about creating a study to evaluate these variables among adults in Wisconsin without a history of cardiovascular disease. Why should we pay attention to sentence length anyway? For one, it adds as much meaning to a text as the words you choose. Sentence length conveys a specific mood and rhythm and matches the actions being described. For example, if you were writing a tense car race, shorter sentences may help heighten the suspense of the scene. On the other hand, longer sentences may work better when writing about complex philosophical abstractions. Let s look at a couple examples.
