3. NEED OF MIS
A management required information for smart planning of
future. For taking right decision at right time and controlling
various activities, information are required. MIS provides
information regarding past, present and future of internal and
external affairs of the organization, which is very helpful in
decision making. The flow of quick and correct information is
necessary for controlling various activities of organization and
for the growth of organization. Management required
information for planning, organizing, directing, controlling,
staffing etc.
The management takes decision based on the available
information. It depends upon the effectiveness of decision
maker, accuracy of information, quality of information and flow
of information. Only useful information should be provided to
the management as unnecessary information creates confusion.

available resources.

It includes daily activities of an organization. It sees that any activity is
carried out effectively. It includes financial accounts, pay roll,
equipments and inventory etc. operational information can be easily
converted into instruction.

The characteristics of good mis are:
1. Completeness
The information should include all the elements required to take
decision, i.e. it should
be complete. It should show the alternatives in decision making.
2. Clarity and conciseness
The collected information should be perfect and concise.
3. Consistency
The information collected by different persons should be
consistent with each other.

1. Input data
Once the objectives are decided the MIS designer decides which
input data are required and how to collect it. Unnecessary data are
removed from the collected data. To make the MIS effective, only
meaningful data should be collected.

alternations are made whenever necessary. This type of data can
be stored in hard files.
Information retrieval means numbering of information,
classification, giving symbol etc. so that necessary information can
be viewed quickly and easily.
