1. The document describes the design process for a magazine cover. Various design elements were added to make the cover visually appealing and professionally designed, including choosing a bold digital font, adding color, inserting logos and images, and including relevant text and captions. 2. Photos were taken of a classmate posing as a DJ to use as the main image on the cover. Additional elements like barcodes, event listings, and issue dates were included to make the cover look like a real magazine. 3. Care was taken to choose complementary colors, font styles, image sizes and placements to create an attractive and cohesive design that would draw attention and match the theme of a music and DJ-focused magazine.

2. 1. I decided to use a font with a “digital” look to it as I felt it would link in
with mixing boards and other studio equipment DJ’s would use (As this
was the theme of my magazine). I then increased the size of the font and
made it more bold by making the colour black, I did this so my masthead
would be easier for people to read and to capture people’s attention.
However I felt that the text needed to be more visually attractive so I
change certain parts of the font into a dark red which I used throughout
my magazine cover. I took the font from the website 1001 fonts and
inserted it into my Photoshop document.
2. I originally took the entire colour from the background picture of my
magazine by using the black and white brush effect. I then re-edited in
the colour of the hat using the colour saturation brush tool. I did this as I
felt the colour would make my cover my appealing and also as it makes
my cover look more professional.
3. I used my classmate Jack Rogers as the model for my photo and gave
him the fake persona “DJ Rogers”. The photo was taken in the
photography studio at Eccles College. I thought I would use this
particular photo out of my photo shoot as I felt that the pose was
interesting and dynamic.
4. I looked on online and found a Jpeg file of the “Parklife” logo. I edited
any unwanted parts of the logo I didn’t require and I inserted it into my
Photoshop document. I then scaled the logo down in size as though it
was a small advertisement on my magazine. I felt this was a good touch
to my front cover as the logo is very well known and makes my magazine
look professional. I chose the “Parklife” logo as it is a popular music
festival but also because the target audience for my magazine are fans
of club music and remixes, music that is played at Parklife.
5. I inserted an image of a barcode I found on Google images into my
Photoshop document. I did this as every magazine cover has a barcode
and without one it would look amateur and unprofessional. I also used
the text tool on Photoshop to insert a price on the barcode as I felt it

3. was a good finishing touch and because prices are extremely common
on barcodes of magazines.
6. As I continued to work on my magazine cover I felt I would add some
text relating to the Parklife logo, so there would be more text for people
to read on my magazine cover. I used the text tool to insert writing
saying “Line up reveal”. I used a plain font so it wouldn’t draw people’s
attention from my masthead however I Ieft the colour of the font black
so it was still visible and easy to read. I then searched online for a clipart
image of an arrow I could use to link the text with the Parklife logo. After
I found a suitable image I edited the colour of it in Photoshop using the
paint bucket tool to make the colours black and white. After I did that I
scaled it down and placed it next to the text and the Parklife logo
connecting both.
7. I researched other similar magazines and created some text I could
insert on the front cover. I thought of interesting events I could write
about and decided to use the “IBIZA123 FESTIVAL”. I choose that
particular event as it related to my magazines theme. I inserted the text
twice, one in the colour white and the other in the colour black. I then
placed the white coloured text in order above the black; then moved it
over the black text but slightly to the left. This created a shadow effect
behind the white text which I felt was visually attractive and professional
looking. To make sure the text wasn’t hard to read I added a shape layer
behind the text and used the eye dropper tool to colour it into the same
dark shade of red I have been using.
8. Next I created two captions for my magazine cover, the first saying “DJ
of the year!” and the second saying “Umissable” as though it was a
quote from the magazine Rollingstone. I tried to make captions that
sounded as though they would feature on a magazine similar to mine,
however I found it difficult to make ones that sounded real and
professional. I also used short and snappy captions so they could be read
quickly at first glance to catch people’s attention. I used the eye dropper

4. tool to get the same shade of red I have been using throughout my
magazine and implement it into my text.
9. As a little finishing touch I added the date of this issue in a very small
font underneath my masthead. I had to scale it down to a very small size
so it wasn’t noticeable at first glance but still readable.
