MAGNETISM
• Magnetism is a class of physical
phenomena that are mediated by
magnetic fields.
• In simple words , we can say that
magnetism is a force that can attract or
repel objects that have a magnetic
material like iron inside them.
TYPE OF MAGNETS
1.NATURAL MAGNETS
Those directly obtained from nature.
They are permanent magnets.
They never lose magnetic power.
2.ARTIFICIAL MAGNETS
They are made of alloys like alnico.
They are either temporary or
permanent magnets
PROPERTIES OF MAGNET
A freely moving magnet align itself in the north
south direction of the earth.
The end of magnet pointing to the north is
north pole (N) and other end is south
pole(S).
• Like poles repel each other and unlike
poles attract each other.
• N-N or S-S Poles Repel
• N-S or S-N Poles Attract
