Calcined and fused aluminas in ceramic tiles are used to confer both resistance to abrasion and resistance to chemical attack and also give the opacification effect . For this reason, alumina is used in compositions of engobes, glazes and inks.
In its use in glazing, alumina has a wide range of functions it can be used to ensure the increase of the PEI coating to generate optical effects semi-gloss, matte, fusibility and control the expansion of the glaze. The addition of alumina can be given either in the grinding of raw materials or in the dispersion of the glaze / correction phase characteristics.
The final effect of the alumina addition depends on its physicochemical characteristics. There are different types of calcined aluminas, each of which is produced by a different type of processing. Thus, the microstructural aluminas have physical differences, which give different behaviors in the preparation and firing of the glaze process.

Concrete is the world’s most important Construction material so the demand of cement is increases. The
production of cement is highly energy intensive & the production on one ton of cement liberates about one ton
of CO2 to atmosphere. The contribution of cement industry to the greenhouse gas emission is estimated to be
about 70% of the total green gas emission. Also it consumes large amount of natural resources. Hence it is
essential to find alternative to cement. Geopolymer concrete is an innovative material in which the binder is
produced but the reaction of an alkaline liquid with a source material that is rich in silica alumina.
The present work deals with the result of the experimental investigation carried out on geopolymer concrete
using steel fiber. The study analyses the effect of steel on compressive strength. Geopolymer concrete mixes
were prepared using low calcium fly ash & activated by alkaline solution. (NaOH & Na2SiO3) with alkaline
liquid to fly ash ratio of 0.35 Alkaline solution. Used for present study combination of sodium hydroxide &
sodium silicate with ratio 2.5. The mix was designed for molarity of 16M & grade chosen for investigation was
M30. Hooked end steel fiber . All tests were conducted according to IS-code procedure. The result for each
variation are tabulated & discussed in details & some important conclusions are made.

Today AAC (light construction material) is a widely used in the constructions as a material that is compared to concrete or conventional stone material, which has a high insulation properties and fireresistant. Previous studies have shown that application of microadditives in AAC enhances physical-mechanical properties of AAC samples. Most of these changes are duo to an even distribution of pores. The influence of such additives, as amorphous SiO2 (AS) and carbon fibres (CF), reduced to microsizeparticles, on formation of AAC macrostructure was investigated. The investigations were carried out with AAC forming mixture where 10% lime was replaced by equivalent content of Portland cement. Research results have showed, that the optimal replacement of sand by AS was 1.0% and by CF – 0.1%, and resulted in an equal distribution of pores and optimal macrostructure formation (higher amount of small pores, lower amount of merged pores) which leads to highest compressive and flexural strengths of modified AAC samples

3. MAGNESIUM-OXIDE BOARDS CAUSE MOISTURE DAMAGE
INSIDE
FACADES IN NEW DANISH BUILDINGS
Magnesium oxide board, “MgO-board”, is a factory-made sheathing board
product, which has been widely used in the last 5 years in ventilated facades on
new or renovated buildings in Denmark. In winter 2014/15, a number of problems
began to appear with these boards since the boards and adjoining building
elements seemed to suffer from some sort of disease, which manifested itself by
damages such as significant moisture, boards leaking salty water
(‘tears’),corrosion of fittings and anchors and mould growth.
4. Introduction
In winter 2014/15, many moisture damages were observed inside ventilated
facades of new or newly renovated Danish buildings. The moisture damaged
facades were constructed with sheathing made of magnesium oxide-boards
(MgO-boards) facing the air gap behind the material used for exterior siding.
MgO-boards have often been used as sheathing behind a ventilated air gap as
shown in Figure 1 and Figure 3. A photo of a MgO-board is shown in Figure.

Water drops containing chloride ions appear on the outside of the boards – often
so many that they run down the vertical boards and out via the air gap behind the
siding boards (see Figures 4 and 5). The metal mountings for the MgO-boards
can corrode heavily within a few years, cf. Figure 6.

7. The binder in MgO-boards is formed by a chemical reaction between MgO and
MgCl2, which is known as magnesium oxychloride cement, or Sorel cement, and
which is a non-hydraulic cement first produced by Stanislas Sorel in 1867 [2]
mainly to be used as a flooring material The cement is a mixture of magnesium
oxide and magnesium chloride – typically with a weight ratio of 2.5-3.5 parts MgO
to one part MgCl2. The magnesium oxychloride cement is formed by mixing a
magnesium chloride (MgCl2) brine solution with a magnesium oxide(MgO)
composition in a selected stoichiometric ratio of MgCl2, MgO, and H2O. Various
explanations about the product and its possible use and qualities can be found in
literature.

Weighing of the basket were performed without opening the front doors
of the climate chambers, as the baskets were hung up one by one
below the balance by means of a steel string. Figure 9 shows the
climate chamber where the actual RH is created by mixing flow of dry
air with flow of saturated air.
Based on a calibrated RH-sensor the connected
PID-system regulates the dry airflow and the
saturated air flow for obtaining the wanted RH. In
this way, the RH is created in wanted steps.
