2. I started creating my front cover by inserting the main cover image and
sizing is using the arrow to fit the whole A4 template.
3. I then decided I wanted to blur the background slightly so that the reader focuses is
more on the models. I also liked the idea of slightly blurring the back so that it meets
the conventions of a concert and portrays the models being in the moment and having
fun at the concert to engage my target audience.

5. I then realized that my image wasn’t suitable to fit the text as the text would’ve been
overlayed on top of the models. To avoid the text overlapping and ensured I had enough free
space I decided to use the cloning tool to copy color around the image to make it bigger.

9. Once that was done, I felt like my magazine front cover was a little to bright,
so I used the burning tool to make the edges darker to give my magazine a
contrasting look.
10. I then started adding a title and strapline. As well as a circle shape and
barcode. I started positioning where I wanted text and images.

12. Using the color swatch, I then started to color the box. I decided to use a
color that stood out from the rest of my magazine as I wanted the USP of
the prize-winning text to stand out to really sell my magazine to my
audience.

14. I then inserted my coverlines and moved them around to where I felt they
would look suitable to meet the codes and conventions of my magazine.
15. Once I felt like my magazine met the codes and conventions and had everything
placed where I liked it, I then made the final touches by changing the fonts of the
text so I could achieve my final product.
16. To set up my double page spread, firstly I made sure I had an A4 print based magazine
and I set the settings so make sure it is the right sizing and includes lines and margins
that suit the layout of my double page spread. I ensured the margins were 0.5 inches
and the bleed and slug was 0.125 inches to meet the conventions of a magazine layout.
17. Once I set up the margins and settings, I then clicked create to make my
magazine layout but because it created it as a one-page cover, I then
ensured I made 2 pages so that it looks more like a double page spread
rather than single.
18. Once my double page spread layout was all set up, I then begin to make the margins
bolder to give my double page spread a better look. To do this I set the margins and
columns to 0.4375 inches.
19. Once that was set up, I then changed the stroke of the margins to 6 pt to make
them bolder as I felt like this would make my magazine look more eye
catching.
20. After that was completed, I then added columns to the double page spread
by editing the number of margins. I did this so that when I insert my text and
images, I can arrange it in columns so that they are in line with each other.
21. I then added more columns to again make sure I have enough
columns to layout my images and texts correctly.
22. Once the columns were put in place, I then added a wireframe and
sized/positioned them where I wanted my images to go. I also added
blocks on text with filled writing to get and idea on were I wanted my
body copy to go
23. After that was put in place, I added a title. I didn’t choose
the font of my title yet as I wanted to see where I was
going to position everything before cleaning the texts and
adding font styles.

25. I then chose a background color that suited my chosen color scheme and goes
with the conventions of my magazine. However, the color went over the text
and image wireframes, so I had to bring them forward.

27. Once the imaged and text was above the background, I started adding
fonts. I began with the title and positioned and sized it whilst adding a
font that stands out and catches the readers eye to the title of the
article. The fonts made the title the point of entry of the magazine.
28. After that I then chose an appropriate color for the title. I chose purple to fit
with the images of my magazine. I then inserted the article to replace the
text holder. I colored this white
29. I started to position where I wanted my pull quote to be. I used a placeholder
text ‘pull quote’ while figuring out where I wanted my pull quote positioned.

31. I decided I didn't like how the image looked so I decided to cut it out
using adobe InDesign. I used the lasso tool to cut out the person.
32. I then inserted the image In the bottom right-hand corner. I positioned the pull
quote next to the image. This gave the look that the artist is saying the quote. I then
inserted a circle to bring attention to the competition text as this is one of my
magazines USP.
33. I changed the number of columns to 3 so that my text could be pasted into
columns as I realized my text was in the middle of my double page spread which
did not meet the requirements of my magazine. So, by inserting it in columns I
ensured my article looked high quality.
34. I decided I didn’t like how the position of the text look, so I decided to
text wrap the article around the image to bring the readers attention to
the image and allow my magazine to look more professional.
35. After I made the columns and text wrapped my text around the image, I then
made the final changed and moved the win text and box at the bottom and filled
in gaps in my double page spread by moving one of the images across slightly. This
ensured my magazine layout meets the conventions and does not have any extra
space and filled the gaps.
