1) The document discusses starting a new rap magazine and focuses on price, images, and artists/bands to feature.
2) It aims to price the magazine at $5 or lower to be affordable and attract readers, while still clearly displaying the price up front.
3) In terms of images, it will have a dominant front cover image with accompanying text rather than many small sub-images, and not overload pages with pictures throughout.
4) For artists, it will feature both modern and classic rappers to appeal to different audiences within the hip hop genre.
2. Prices
• Most rap magazines have prices about around $5 or over. I aim to
have my magazine at $5 or lower as if its cheaper then its more likely
to be bought. Price is one of the biggest concerns for a reader other
than content
My magazine will have the price very clear to see as most magazines have the price very hard
to find. However I wont have it as intrusive as kids magazines so people can still see the front
cover.
3. Images
In all magazines, there is images. There is no such thing as an imageless magazine. For my image
placement, on my front cover, I wont have different sub images, I will have a dominant image and
sell lines along it. My magazine wont be swamped with images. This makes it unique amongst other
magazines in different genres but not amongst those in the same genre
4. Bands/artists
• My Magazine is in the hip hop genre, so it will mostly have rappers in
it. Most magazines like to focus on the modern Rap Scene while a
minority tends to focus on classic hip hop. I want to do both to satisfy
both audiences.
• I don’t intend to use freebies because I don’t believe they are necessary
Vibe magazine focuses on classic hip hop artists,
calling it ‘Real Rap”
