What Are The Four Levels Of Protein Structure
. Amino acids have attributes that make them hydrophilic or hydrophobic. Amino acids that contain
electrically side chains are able to connect or attract with water molecules. Amino acids that contain
partial charges or polar side chains, forming hydrogen bonds, are hydrophilic or attract with water
molecules. Amino acids with nonpolar side chains are hydrophobic or do not attract with water
molecules.
2.
2. 3. The four levels of protein structure are primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary. All of the
levels are made from the primary structure of the protein. Primary structure contains covalent bonds
and is the foundation and basis for the other levels of a protein. Secondary structure is a repeated
continuation of a peptide chain.

The Effects Of Prosopagnosia And Its Effects On Human...
Prosopagnosia Prosopagnosia, also known as face blindness, is a form of visual agnosia characterized
by an inability to recognize faces. Usually those with Prosopagnosia are able to see the features on a
person s appearance with little difficulty; however, it is the retention and synthetization of those
images that challenges them. Many people also report deficits in other aspects of face processing, such
as judging age or gender, recognizing certain emotional expressions, or following the direction of a
person s eye gaze. Currently, scientists have yet to come to a consensus on the actual cause of the
disease, but many suspect it is linked to extensive damage of the occipital and temporal lobes.
Presently, one speculation is that Prosopagnosia is connected to the fusiform gyrus, an area of the
brain located on the inferior/median temporal lobe. As found by researchers, the fusiform gyrus is
thought to constitute a core visual representation system for faces, in part because they show face
selectivity and face repetition suppression (Furl, N., Garrido, L., Dolan, R. J., Driver, J., Duchaine, B.,
2011, 1723 1740). However, looking at recent fMRI studies, scientists are questioning whether these
conditions and damages to the fusiform gyrus relate to face processing skills at all (Furl, N. et al,
2011). Due to this uncertainty another theory has evolved. As stated by Gainotti (2010, 763 766),
prosopagnosia is due to disruption of purely visual entities, the face

In this paper, we will review one of the graph database (Neo4j), which the graph database is part of
the emerging technology that is called NoSQL and compared it with one of the traditional relational
databases (MySQL). MySQL, it is being another name for Relational Databases and it has been used
for a long time period until now. However, with the emergence of Big Data there was clearly a need
for more flexible databases. Facebook s Graph Search use Neo4j, a graph database, is an application
which clearly displays how relationships need to be modeled in a more efficient and sophisticated
manner than using conventional relational models. In this paper, we will make a comparison between
MySQL and Neo4j based on the features like ACID, replication, availability and the language that is
used in both of them.
Keywords: RDBMS, NoSQL, Relational Databases, MySQL, Neo4j, ACID.

Modern Funerals In The Modern Funeral
The modern funeral is something that everybody experiences either through death of an acquaintance
or by direct necessity to arrange a funeral yet so many people know so little about funerals and the
industry behind it. This lack of knowledge is the main cause of consumer s issues with the modern
funeral. Arranging a funeral is at least problematic and in most cases is a harrowing experience. This
clearly indicates that fundamental problems exist in the funeral industry. The funeral should be a
hallowed event but is one overshadowed by the depressing and stressful ordeal of arrangement. A
majority of these issues could be resolved if the general public knew about funerals but unfortunately
this knowledge is not common and has many affects on the consumer. The average consumer knows
almost nothing about the average funeral in the United States, even the most common things, such as
embalming. Embalming is a method of preserving a dead body. This is an oddly grotesque method is
the standard in the United States. This indicates that this process has had the largest effect on the
funeral industry and this is certainly true. Embalming is something that has formed the American
funeral industry since its proliferation since the American Civil War. This is also why the funeral
industry in the United States is vastly different than almost anywhere else in the world. In Europe an
American funeral is seen as a very strange ritual. Putting a preserved dead body on display is not

Of Who Will Light The Incense When Mother s Gone By Andrew...
In the essay, Who will Light the Incense When Mother s Gone? by Andrew Lam, the theme is
recognized to be one of the key elements. The theme of this essay is the mother s fear of her children
leaving behind the sense of their ancestors. This theme commonly occurs with children of immigrant
parents because after being raised in America they neglect the fact where they originally came from.
The theme of this story is keeping up traditions. Lam s mother displays the theme love by following
and committed to explain her children the values and culture. Lam s mother keeps up the traditions of
her native nation because she does not want to forget something that is precious to her. The writer
starts out asking, Who will light the incense when mother s gone? at his mother s 70th birthday party
(Lam, par. 1). For Lam, he has already forgotten most of his past ... Show more content on

Lam s family is from Vietnam and moved to America for an improved and better life. The children do
not have any knowledge about their Vietnamese heritage yet are expected to obey and respect the
rituals. The story portrays a relationship between the mother and her children. Throughout the story,
the father in the family was not mentioned. The mother is seemed to have the main role in the family
since she has to maintain the family together and continue the traditions of the Vietnamese culture on
her own. Every morning in my parents suburban home north of San Jose, with a pool shimmering in
the backyard, she climbs a chair and piously lights a few joss sticks for the ancestral altar, which sits
on top of the living room s bookcase. Every morning she talks to ghosts (Lam, par. 4). She shows her
affection for her culture by continuing to do the rituals though she lives in America now. The
Vietnamese ritual she does is lighting the incense and praying to the

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CAPS) Analysis
There are over 20 million people in the world today suffering from posttraumatic stress disorder
(Lenz, Bruijn, Serman, N. S., Bailey, 2014). PTSD is an incredibly misunderstood disorder that has
many different types of assessments and forms of therapy made specifically to help those that are
suffering from it. Being able to know about and understand how and why these treatments work is a
major part in helping these 20 million people. To begin with, for people to fully comprehend what
happens to a person s brain when they are diagnosed with PTSD they have to know about the
assessments those people have to undergo once they are diagnosed. CAPS is an hour long assessment
in which the patient must go through a structured clinical interview (Bardhoshi, Erford, B. T., Duncan,
Dummett, Falco, Deferio, Kraft, 2016, p. 184). The CAPS assessment includes an analysis of 30
different symptoms and scores them on a scale from 0 4 to measure the intensity and the frequency of
those symptoms (Bardhoshi, et al., 2014). CAPS is one of the most frequently used assessments in
measuring how the symptoms will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cognitive Processing Therapy is a form of therapy that integrates aspects of traditional cognitive
therapy with information processing theory (Lenz, et al., 2014, p. 360) (as cited in Resick et al., 2007;
Resick Schnicke, 1993). CPT was created based on the presumption that for a person with PTSD to
improve they must first have those memories activated in order for the fallacious attributions and
expectations to be substituted with corrective information (Lenz, et al., 2014, p. 360). CPT often
involves the patients to do assignments out of therapy to let them practice the different perspectives
and action that they had learned in therapy (Lenz et al., 2014). CPT can also be paired with other types
of therapy such as grief counseling if the patient needs it (Lenz et al.,

The State Of Discipline Essay
The State of the Discipline History cannot be changed, but as time goes on different discoveries,
interpretations, issues, and concerns for the discipline arise that cause historians to analyze the state of
the discipline. To investigate these concerns, I read articles from Perspectives on History, particularly
the October 2017 issue. During this research, I discovered that some of the ideas, topics, and debates
that are occupying historians right now are: student enrollment, the preservation of history, and the
rewriting of history via alternative facts. One major concern currently for historians is how to revive
history in the classroom. In almost every month so far in 2017, there has been at least one article
concerning low numbers ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An important aspect of these monuments are that they are beginning to memorialize all the victims
from the Holocaust, such as the Jews, handicapped, and homosexuals. Another issue concerning
historians is the idea of alternative facts popularized by the United State s current president, Donald
Trump. The author, Robert Blackey, makes his opinion about alternative facts clear: they are
detrimental to history and are not alternative, but false. An important distinction he makes is that
alternative facts are not synonymous with alternative interpretations. Historians (and students of
History 200) learn how to formulate historical narratives. As discussed in the last paper, certain
aspects can deviate and focus on various factors that ultimately shape the narrative. However, there
are always facts and evidence supporting every claim. Alternative facts are a lie, and it believe so as a
historian is to betray history, and this is why it is an important issue plaguing the nation. In order to
prove a point or save face, individuals are undermining history and facts.
The topics that are being presented in this article are present issues that have been influenced by the
past. When individuals decide on a stance on the issue of confederate monuments, it is important that
they investigate the past for the context, and this article specifically encourages individuals to do so.

Summary Of The Book Of Mormon
Fan the Flame of Your Faith
A testimony is most often forged through personal experience or intentional personal study. In the
Book of Mormon, Moroni, the last prophet of the Nephite nation, leaves the reader with an exhortation
to read and ponder in their hearts the passages contained in the book. Then Moroni gives a promise
that if the reader will pray and ask God if these things are true, in faith, the truth will be manifest to
them. (Moroni 10:3 5) We are taught that this process is the same no matter what the question we are
seeking an answer to. We must first study it out in our mind then ask in prayer if it be right and if it is
right we shall know through the power of the Holy Ghost (D C 9:8).

Role Of Supernatural Elements In Macbeth
In the play entitled Macbeth by William Shakespeare, the supernatural is the most important element
in the play which leads to Macbeth s desire for the throne. Throughout the play, supernatural appeals
to the audience in various forms which is represented by the witches, the prophecies, the floating
dagger, and ghost. The existence of these supernatural elements in Macbeth foreshadows the evil
ambitions and actions possess by Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. Besides that, these supernatural
elements also are the key elements to the manipulative play as it evoke the emotions among the
audience to perceive the horror, mystery, evil and death throughout the play. The introduction of the
three witches with their prophecies in Act 1 Scene 3, about Macbeth after he won the war against the
Norwegians, at the beginning of the play has naturally motivated Macbeth s actions to make the
prophecies into reality.
The witches are not human or half ways normal when Banquo quotes to Macbeth that the creatures are
not human like as well as irregular in some sort and very unattractive. The witches then presented as
Macbeth s fortune tellers. The witches called Macbeth as Thane of Glamis, Thane of Cawdor ... Show

would have never killed Duncan. The witches and their prophecies become the ultimate key factor for
Macbeth s dynamic character as their ability to foresee Macbeth s fate affect his actions and
endeavors. Macbeth was once a respected hero, but his desire to become King of Scotland destroyed
his nobility. It is also very effective as it highlights the horror, fears, cruelty and blameworthy of
Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. The elements successfully appeal to the audience s curiosity of the

Michael Joseph Jackson, African American, male, born 1958 in Gary Indiana, but was raised outside
of Chicago. Where Michael was born was primarily black in the 60 s (99%). However, when the
Jackson Family moved to Encino California in 1971, they bought what is called Hayvenhurst House.

In accordance with the OSHA s PPE standards (Personal Protective equipment), an assessment of a
motor vehicle garage was performed to identify if there were hazards present that would affect the

following are the guidelines that were used for the process. Survey The first step of the assessment
involved surveying the garage (workshop). This included a walk through with the purpose of
identifying sources of hazards in areas of question such as paint shop, body shop, and storage unit
among others. Particular attention was given to the primary hazard categories that include:

were used as basis on which the sources of hazards were identified. Sources The survey identified
hazards to emanate from the following areas. The paint shop where chemical exposures were high as a
result of the fumes generated when painting cars. It was identified that paint fumes are very toxic and
could result in chronic medical conditions when employees are not well protected. The body shop was
the second area that was identified for hazards. There were numerous machinery and many tools of

If you don t sacrifice for what you want, what you want becomes a sacrifice. (Unkown) Sacrifice was
not a strange action to these characters. The entire novel was based on the sacrifices each individual
made throughout for their own future as well as that of the country. While Eponine made one of the
most selfless moves of the movie, it can easily overshadow those of other characters, which were
many. Looking further than Eponine s actions, some of the most sacrificial and resilient moments

The Role Of Slavery In Ancient Rome
Roman slavery has increased the wealth of the highest class, and the aristocrats who owned the most
slaves would represent the wealthiest citizens. As one third of the Roman population, slaves have
tested the strength of the economy by completing specialized jobs for no profit instead of the working
middle class. Also, the government distributed very few rights for the slaves to have the opportunity to
escape poverty.
As the population of slaves grew rapidly, the aristocratic elite was able to hold great power and wealth
throughout Ancient Rome and its plantations. The more slaves that an elite had working for them the
more luxury and privileges they obtained. In addition, the Romans took prisoners or citizens charged
for war debt from conquered regions such as Carthage, Macedonia and Greece in Northern Italy,
Africa and Europe to acquire as their slaves. The slaves past origin and ethnicity did not cause
discrimination or leave that slave with a crueler punishment than others in the Roman Republic.

is a high level of competition within the motor industry as the companies have a high level of
competition between themselves especially when it comes to marketing and innovation this is seen on
a daily basis with the sometimes odd tv adverts used by car companies in order to differentiate
themselves. The industry has many firms in it that have chosen to specialse across all areads such as
cost, fuel efficient, brand image and style. However the Auto industry is segmented as it ranges from
high cost and very specialist companies all the way down to low cost mass production companies.
This can be seen as you wouldn t say that Ferrari is competiting with KIA. However there is a high
level of competition between firms. The next of porters five forces is the bargaining power of buyer
which in this case is customers. The customers of the Auto Industry are what provides the revenue for
all of the incumbents in the market. The result of this is that there are low switching costs in the
market place this means that customers would be able to switch between competing firms for no extra
cost. This ties in with the next point which is that customers also have access to accurate

The Pros And Cons Of Phonics And Whole Language
Phonics is the theory of leaning established in the 19th century and states children need to break down
the complex skill of reading into smaller components like letters before they move on to larger
components like sounds, words, and sentences. The phonetic reading theory teaches children to dissect
unfamiliar words into parts and then join the parts together to form words. When children learn the
letter sound relationship, they are provided with a decoding formula they can apply whenever they
encounter an unfamiliar word (Curtis, 1997, p. 1).
The pros and cons of phonics:
Builds better pronunciation
Reinforces word recognition
Children can use systematic approach to decode unfamiliar words
Less memory intensive and guess work

1) Our textbook states that children benefit from both styles of learning, phonics and whole language.
By using both styles, the teacher blends early phonics instructions into the teaching of reading
stressing the importance of oral vocabulary, auditory discrimination, phonological awareness, syllable
awareness, onset time awareness and phoneme awareness. (Gordon Browne, 2014, p. 392)
I do not recall the phonics approach to leaning when I was in school; however, I do remember my
children learning from this style when they were in school so I would say they were taught both
phonics and whole language. My research and the text book supports both teaching styles and I would
have to agree from what I have witnessed on my own children and grandchildren, incorporating both
styles is the best way to teach language and literacy. I have not yet had the opportunity to teach, but
when I do, my plan would be to incorporate both into my lesson plans.

Historical Development Of Urban Development
Introduction In the context of urban history, infrastructure can make or break a community. In the
United States, the historical development of urban infrastructure has both formed and followed the
inscriptions of race, class, and gender on the urban landscape. Ample in more affluent communities,
usually absent or minimal in historic concentrations of urban poverty, infrastructure does not serve its
public equally. Some cities have a more equitable distribution of infrastructure than others, but many
urban neighborhoods remain woefully underserved, (Avila 4 5). My hometown of Tolleson, Arizona is
a small city of six thousand, five hundred residents with a predominantly Mexican population, with
nearly 78% of the residents declaring themselves as Mexican in the 2010 census. The focus of my
research will be on the power of Latinx representation Latinx majority cities governments, using
Tolleson as a special case study, whose city council is majority Mexican. Tolleson has been making
great strides to fix up the town and provide more jobs and opportunities to its residents, and in doing
so, the city has asserted itself as a major example for its innovation and strengthening infrastructure.
For example, Tolleson was the only city in Arizona to not lay off employees during the 2008 Great
Recession, and the Paseo de Luces (Path of Lights), which was created by Mayor Adolfo F. Gámez,
who also fought to keep highways such as the Interstate 10 and South Mountain Freeway from

Inspired By Author, Harriet Beecher, Sarah Orne Jewett...
Sarah Orne Jewett began writing at an early age as she was inspired by, The Pearl of Orr s Island
written by Harriet Beecher Stowe. Jewett began writing in the style of the author of her inspiration and
thus fell in love with the style of writing that encapsulated nearly every author of her time, local color
writing. Local color writing is a style of writing that became popular just after the Civil War. Many
writers began writing with a focus on the way of life and nature in their direct surrounding areas and
regions. As mentioned by The Norton Anthology: American Literature Volume 2, local color writing
embodies the depiction of, ...the topographies, people, speech patterns, and modes of life of the nation
s distinctive regions (412). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Each of these individually would not make up color writing but once they are all pieced together they
create an environment so familiar to Jewett and those who know the coast of Maine well. Jewett
writes the story as if the land is capable of enchantment and the reader gets that feel with each
description of the land. This too is a crucial aspect of local color, specifically when it comes to
satisfying the topography category. While each description of the land may not entirely be specific to
Maine, it is their author that constructs such a combination that the land comes alive and is a crucial
piece of the story just as crucial as the characters themselves. The characters in A White Heron are not
entirely specific to Maine, but their speech patterns as well as their way of life are for sure. The first
example of how the characters add to the local color of the story is when the ornithologist first meets
Sylvia. The stranger first met Sylvia out in nature while Sylvia was walking with her grandmother s
cow. The stranger was not in a place that he knew well and asked Sylvia about where the road is.
Sylvia helped the stranger because he had lost his way. This is a great example of how A White Heron
is local color writing. Sylvia represents her region of Maine and the stranger is just a representation of
people from outside of the Maine region that Sylvia hails from. Even though Sylvia is much younger
and much less experienced in the wild than the ornithologist,

was in the play Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead by Tom Stoppard. Cumberbatch, in his role as
Rosencrantz, portrays an honorable depiction of the technique and feeling desired of in an actor. As
one of the protagonists in the play, Cumberbatch has to create a parallel between the play s character

Rosencrantz s character traits by integrating confusion, drawn out pauses, existentialist questions, and
circular arguments to his body language and actions.

Dante,Circles, And Characters In Dante Alighieri
Dante Alighieri was a major Italian poet of the Late Middle Ages, he was born into a family with a
complex involvement in the Florence political scene. In the Dante Alighieri s epic poem The Inferno,
Dante, the protagonist, witnesses the Circles of Hell, guided by Virgil the character representing
Human Reason. Alighieri shows compassion towards different sinners in Hell, which provides an
insight on the way he feels about people who do not repent. Although they are illustrated as good
people by the poet, they are punished within the different circles of Hell because they did not cleanse
themselves of sin. Through the uses of diction, actions of Dante and Virgil, and imagery, Alighieri was
able to show readers he felt compassion towards Farinata Degli Uberti, Pier Delle Vigne, and Count
Ugliono.
Alighieri shows compassion towards a sinner in the Sixth Circle named Farinata Degli Uberti, through
the use of diction and actions of Virgil and Dante. Farinata Degli Uberti is one of the damned who is
punished for Heresy, a person who believed that the soul dies with the body, denying life after death.
As a Heretic, his body is exhumed and burned in a tomb endlessly. When Virgil and Dante get to this
Circle, they speak to Farinata Uberti which allows for his body to rise from the tomb in order to speak
to them, Erect, he rose above the flame, great chest, great figure,... (Canto X, lines 34 35). Here Dante

The book Peace Like A river is a best seller written by Leif Enger in the 2001. This novel has many
connections to the hymn It is Well With My Soul , written by Horatio Spafford the 1800s. Spafford
was a lawyer and presbyterian church elder who wrote the hymn following the tragic death of his four
daughters. Spafford witnessed the loss of his family, his business and his hope during his lifetime yet
he still found the strength to pursue through the hard times. Horatio Spafford was an American

Home Depot was more concerned with expanding into new markets than it was about ensuring that
they maintained their position as a low cost retailer. With Home Depot s rapid expansion, they
experienced the diseconomies of scale through decentralized purchasing, multiple suppliers for the
same goods and difficulty managing the number of stores, all items that Nardelli addressed. When
Nardelli took over, he shifted the strategy to integrated. He implemented methods to improve the
process efficiency of Home Depot to keep them as a cost leader with investments into IT and logistics
and the elimination of the cash return policy. He also moved to differentiate Home Depot by adding
services such as tool rentals and professional contractor services, making the stores more appealing
through layout changes and an emphasis on helping customers instead of restocking. The major issue
that faces Home Depot in 2005 is its lack of a clear strategy. Home Depot put resources towards
addressing process efficiency issues which are in line with cost leadership, but they also invested
heavily in obtaining a differentiated position. Although Home Depot appears to be trying to obtain an
integrated position, they are failing at both cost leadership and differentiation. Home Depot made
significant improvements in their processes by centralizing purchasing and switching to automated
inventory management to be a cost leader, but they

The Oversexualization Of Women In Japanese Anime And Manga
WMST/PHIL 346
The Oversexualizing of
Women in Japanese Anime and Manga The Japanese are a very creative culture which have produced
several fantastic science fiction movies such as Gojira, which was an allegory for the use of atomic
bombs in war to the animated cartoons, known as anime in America, like Space Battleship Yamato
which portrayed the story of all the nations of the planet Earth joining forces to defeat an alien
invasion. Yamato and other anime like Mach A Go Go had female characters in the shows that were
both allies and sometimes love interest to the main characters, but still were depicted as strong female
role models and were drawn with normal features and body types. However, as time has passed,
women in anime have been more and more sexualized and this has had an effect on how young people
look at Japanese culture and women in particular. In this paper, the effects of this practice will be
observed. With the anime boom of the last few years, the way women have been portrayed in these
animated cartoons has been more and more sexualized. Shows such as Fairy Tale depict the female
leads as scantily clad fighters with rather large breast. Even the youngest girl on the show that is
around the age of 11 to 12 is depicted with larger than normal breast. One of the main reasons for this
is the rather strong patriarchal view of women in Japan that is still there to this day. The article titled A

INTRODUCTION
In the past decade, the world and the markets alike have experienced rapid change and this change
continues at an ever increasing pace. New products emerge in every field resulting in the creation of

for determining the center of mass of each state is split up into five steps. The first two, file conversion
and sorting, gave a huge amount of raw data, and then condensed it into a workable form. The third
step converted latitude and longitude coordinates into kilometers. The fourth step took the trapezoids
formed by the previous steps and calculated their moments with respect to the x and y axis s. Finally,
the conversions were reversed to give the center of mass. All of the states were downloaded as
shapefiles from the National Boundary Dataset maintained by the USGS. Then then the .shp files were
converted to .kmz with ArcMap10.4, and then converted to .kml with Google Earth. Then the
approximately 30,000 latitude and longitude coordinates for each state were saved as a .txt file and
imported into Excel. The shapefiles gave a coordinate approximately every 400 meters along straight
edges of states, and approximately every 200 meters along rivers and other curved features, and went
out to the eighth decimal place. The territorial seas of costal states which extend three nautical miles
out from the low water mark, and the state boundaries that extend into the Great Lakes and other

  • 3. The Effects Of Prosopagnosia And Its Effects On Human... Prosopagnosia Prosopagnosia, also known as face blindness, is a form of visual agnosia characterized by an inability to recognize faces. Usually those with Prosopagnosia are able to see the features on a person s appearance with little difficulty; however, it is the retention and synthetization of those images that challenges them. Many people also report deficits in other aspects of face processing, such as judging age or gender, recognizing certain emotional expressions, or following the direction of a person s eye gaze. Currently, scientists have yet to come to a consensus on the actual cause of the disease, but many suspect it is linked to extensive damage of the occipital and temporal lobes. Presently, one speculation is that Prosopagnosia is connected to the fusiform gyrus, an area of the brain located on the inferior/median temporal lobe. As found by researchers, the fusiform gyrus is thought to constitute a core visual representation system for faces, in part because they show face selectivity and face repetition suppression (Furl, N., Garrido, L., Dolan, R. J., Driver, J., Duchaine, B., 2011, 1723 1740). However, looking at recent fMRI studies, scientists are questioning whether these conditions and damages to the fusiform gyrus relate to face processing skills at all (Furl, N. et al, 2011). Due to this uncertainty another theory has evolved. As stated by Gainotti (2010, 763 766), prosopagnosia is due to disruption of purely visual entities, the face ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Modern Funerals In The Modern Funeral The modern funeral is something that everybody experiences either through death of an acquaintance or by direct necessity to arrange a funeral yet so many people know so little about funerals and the industry behind it. This lack of knowledge is the main cause of consumer s issues with the modern funeral. Arranging a funeral is at least problematic and in most cases is a harrowing experience. This clearly indicates that fundamental problems exist in the funeral industry. The funeral should be a hallowed event but is one overshadowed by the depressing and stressful ordeal of arrangement. A majority of these issues could be resolved if the general public knew about funerals but unfortunately this knowledge is not common and has many affects on the consumer. The average consumer knows almost nothing about the average funeral in the United States, even the most common things, such as embalming. Embalming is a method of preserving a dead body. This is an oddly grotesque method is the standard in the United States. This indicates that this process has had the largest effect on the funeral industry and this is certainly true. Embalming is something that has formed the American funeral industry since its proliferation since the American Civil War. This is also why the funeral industry in the United States is vastly different than almost anywhere else in the world. In Europe an American funeral is seen as a very strange ritual. Putting a preserved dead body on display is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Of Who Will Light The Incense When Mother s Gone By Andrew... In the essay, Who will Light the Incense When Mother s Gone? by Andrew Lam, the theme is recognized to be one of the key elements. The theme of this essay is the mother s fear of her children leaving behind the sense of their ancestors. This theme commonly occurs with children of immigrant parents because after being raised in America they neglect the fact where they originally came from. The theme of this story is keeping up traditions. Lam s mother displays the theme love by following and committed to explain her children the values and culture. Lam s mother keeps up the traditions of her native nation because she does not want to forget something that is precious to her. The writer starts out asking, Who will light the incense when mother s gone? at his mother s 70th birthday party (Lam, par. 1). For Lam, he has already forgotten most of his past ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lam s family is from Vietnam and moved to America for an improved and better life. The children do not have any knowledge about their Vietnamese heritage yet are expected to obey and respect the rituals. The story portrays a relationship between the mother and her children. Throughout the story, the father in the family was not mentioned. The mother is seemed to have the main role in the family since she has to maintain the family together and continue the traditions of the Vietnamese culture on her own. Every morning in my parents suburban home north of San Jose, with a pool shimmering in the backyard, she climbs a chair and piously lights a few joss sticks for the ancestral altar, which sits on top of the living room s bookcase. Every morning she talks to ghosts (Lam, par. 4). She shows her affection for her culture by continuing to do the rituals though she lives in America now. PTSD is an incredibly misunderstood disorder that has many different types of assessments and forms of therapy made specifically to help those that are suffering from it. Being able to know about and understand how and why these treatments work is a major part in helping these 20 million people. To begin with, for people to fully comprehend what happens to a person s brain when they are diagnosed with PTSD they have to know about the assessments those people have to undergo once they are diagnosed. CAPS is an hour long assessment in which the patient must go through a structured clinical interview (Bardhoshi, Erford, B. T., Duncan, Dummett, Falco, Deferio, Kraft, 2016, p. 184). The CAPS assessment includes an analysis of 30 different symptoms and scores them on a scale from 0 4 to measure the intensity and the frequency of those symptoms (Bardhoshi, et al., 2014). CPT was created based on the presumption that for a person with PTSD to improve they must first have those memories activated in order for the fallacious attributions and expectations to be substituted with corrective information (Lenz, et al., 2014, p. 360). CPT often involves the patients to do assignments out of therapy to let them practice the different perspectives and action that they had learned in therapy (Lenz et al., 2014). • 9. The State Of Discipline Essay The State of the Discipline History cannot be changed, but as time goes on different discoveries, interpretations, issues, and concerns for the discipline arise that cause historians to analyze the state of the discipline. To investigate these concerns, I read articles from Perspectives on History, particularly the October 2017 issue. During this research, I discovered that some of the ideas, topics, and debates that are occupying historians right now are: student enrollment, the preservation of history, and the rewriting of history via alternative facts. One major concern currently for historians is how to revive history in the classroom. In almost every month so far in 2017, there has been at least one article concerning low numbers ... An important aspect of these monuments are that they are beginning to memorialize all the victims from the Holocaust, such as the Jews, handicapped, and homosexuals. Another issue concerning historians is the idea of alternative facts popularized by the United State s current president, Donald Trump. The author, Robert Blackey, makes his opinion about alternative facts clear: they are detrimental to history and are not alternative, but false. An important distinction he makes is that alternative facts are not synonymous with alternative interpretations. Historians (and students of History 200) learn how to formulate historical narratives. As discussed in the last paper, certain aspects can deviate and focus on various factors that ultimately shape the narrative. However, there are always facts and evidence supporting every claim. Alternative facts are a lie, and it believe so as a historian is to betray history, and this is why it is an important issue plaguing the nation. In order to prove a point or save face, individuals are undermining history and facts. The topics that are being presented in this article are present issues that have been influenced by the past. In the Book of Mormon, Moroni, the last prophet of the Nephite nation, leaves the reader with an exhortation to read and ponder in their hearts the passages contained in the book. Then Moroni gives a promise that if the reader will pray and ask God if these things are true, in faith, the truth will be manifest to them. (Moroni 10:3 5) We are taught that this process is the same no matter what the question we are seeking an answer to. • 22. The Porters Five Forces Model The Porters Five Forces Model was devised by Professor Michael Porter. The aim of the model is too analyse the nature of competiton within an industry. This means that the porters five forces model can be a powerful tool (E. Dobbs, 2014). The first of the forces is competition in the motor industry. There is a high level of competition within the motor industry as the companies have a high level of competition between themselves especially when it comes to marketing and innovation this is seen on a daily basis with the sometimes odd tv adverts used by car companies in order to differentiate themselves. The industry has many firms in it that have chosen to specialse across all areads such as cost, fuel efficient, brand image and style. However the Auto industry is segmented as it ranges from high cost and very specialist companies all the way down to low cost mass production companies. This can be seen as you wouldn t say that Ferrari is competiting with KIA. However there is a high level of competition between firms. The next of porters five forces is the bargaining power of buyer which in this case is customers. The customers of the Auto Industry are what provides the revenue for all of the incumbents in the market. The result of this is that there are low switching costs in the market place this means that customers would be able to switch between competing firms for no extra cost. This ties in with the next point which is that customers also have access to accurate ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Local color writing is a style of writing that became popular just after the Civil War. Many writers began writing with a focus on the way of life and nature in their direct surrounding areas and regions. Jewett writes the story as if the land is capable of enchantment and the reader gets that feel with each description of the land. This too is a crucial aspect of local color, specifically when it comes to satisfying the topography category. While each description of the land may not entirely be specific to Maine, it is their author that constructs such a combination that the land comes alive and is a crucial piece of the story just as crucial as the characters themselves. The characters in A White Heron are not entirely specific to Maine, but their speech patterns as well as their way of life are for sure. The first example of how the characters add to the local color of the story is when the ornithologist first meets Sylvia. The stranger first met Sylvia out in nature while Sylvia was walking with her grandmother s cow. The stranger was not in a place that he knew well and asked Sylvia about where the road is. Sylvia helped the stranger because he had lost his way. This is a great example of how A White Heron is local color writing. Home Depot is a global company because they also have consumers in Canada and Mexico, the potential to expand their market to other areas globally and have a global supply chain. In the U.S. market, the industry is concentrated and in the mature stage with Home Depot and Lowe s making up a duopoly because they are the only two major players that compete at a similar retail volume nationwide. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Home Depot was more concerned with expanding into new markets than it was about ensuring that they maintained their position as a low cost retailer. With Home Depot s rapid expansion, they experienced the diseconomies of scale through decentralized purchasing, multiple suppliers for the same goods and difficulty managing the number of stores, all items that Nardelli addressed. When Nardelli took over, he shifted the strategy to integrated. He implemented methods to improve the process efficiency of Home Depot to keep them as a cost leader with investments into IT and logistics and the elimination of the cash return policy. He also moved to differentiate Home Depot by adding services such as tool rentals and professional contractor services, making the stores more appealing through layout changes and an emphasis on helping customers instead of restocking. The major issue that faces Home Depot in 2005 is its lack of a clear strategy. Home Depot put resources towards addressing process efficiency issues which are in line with cost leadership, but they also invested heavily in obtaining a differentiated position. Although Home Depot appears to be trying to obtain an integrated position, they are failing at both cost leadership and differentiation. Home Depot made significant improvements in their processes by centralizing purchasing and switching to automated inventory management to be a cost leader, but they ... The Oversexualization Of Women In Japanese Anime And Manga WMST/PHIL 346 The Oversexualizing of Women in Japanese Anime and Manga The Japanese are a very creative culture which have produced several fantastic science fiction movies such as Gojira, which was an allegory for the use of atomic bombs in war to the animated cartoons, known as anime in America, like Space Battleship Yamato which portrayed the story of all the nations of the planet Earth joining forces to defeat an alien invasion. Yamato and other anime like Mach A Go Go had female characters in the shows that were both allies and sometimes love interest to the main characters, but still were depicted as strong female role models and were drawn with normal features and body types. However, as time has passed, women in anime have been more and more sexualized and this has had an effect on how young people look at Japanese culture and women in particular. In this paper, the effects of this practice will be observed. With the anime boom of the last few years, the way women have been portrayed in these animated cartoons has been more and more sexualized. Shows such as Fairy Tale depict the female leads as scantily clad fighters with rather large breast. Even the youngest girl on the show that is around the age of 11 to 12 is depicted with larger than normal breast. One of the main reasons for this is the rather strong patriarchal view of women in Japan that is still there to this day. Geographic Center Of The United States GEOGRAPHIC CENTER OF THE UNITED STATES MATH 166 Ian Gilley, Kelvin Brandl, Kayla Muehlhauser, Nathan Koehler, Justin Ebnet, Kylie Bentz Our method for determining the center of mass of each state is split up into five steps. The first two, file conversion and sorting, gave a huge amount of raw data, and then condensed it into a workable form. The third step converted latitude and longitude coordinates into kilometers. The fourth step took the trapezoids formed by the previous steps and calculated their moments with respect to the x and y axis s. Finally, the conversions were reversed to give the center of mass. All of the states were downloaded as shapefiles from the National Boundary Dataset maintained by the USGS. Then then the .shp files were converted to .kmz with ArcMap10.4, and then converted to .kml with Google Earth. Then the approximately 30,000 latitude and longitude coordinates for each state were saved as a .txt file and imported into Excel. The shapefiles gave a coordinate approximately every 400 meters along straight edges of states, and approximately every 200 meters along rivers and other curved features, and went out to the eighth decimal place. The territorial seas of costal states which extend three nautical miles out from the low water mark, and the state boundaries that extend into the Great Lakes and other bodies of water were included in the laminar sheet.
