Aaron J. Mackey gave a talk at the 2008 Bioinformatics Open Source Conference about underutilized modules in BioPerl, including Bio::Coordinate for working with alternative sequence coordinates, Bio::Seq::BaseSeqProcessor for processing sequence data, and Bio::Tools::IUPAC for working with IUPAC nucleotide ambiguity codes. The talk highlighted how these modules can help answer biological questions about features like single nucleotide polymorphisms, protein domains, exons, untranslated regions, transcription factor binding sites, and gene locations.
