This document describes the design and testing of three microstrip patch antennas with different slot configurations to increase bandwidth. A shorted patch antenna without slots achieved a 22% bandwidth. One with vertical slots reduced the size and achieved an 18.5% bandwidth. One with inclined slots further improved the return loss and achieved the highest bandwidth of 25.2%. Measurements showed good broadside radiation patterns for the slotted antennas. The antennas were designed for digital communication system base station applications requiring bandwidths from 1765-2200 MHz.
