This document summarizes the efforts of Houston Community College Libraries to establish an online webinar program for librarian instruction. It describes how in Spring 2017 the libraries began offering webinars on various topics using GoToWebinar software. To date over 800 students from many subject areas have attended 10 different webinar topics facilitated by 10 librarians. Lessons learned include preparing for technical issues, marketing to faculty, and adjusting schedules. Future goals include customizing webinars, improving accessibility, assessing outcomes, and exploring additional engagement and teaching methods like flipped classroom approaches.

SO FAR SO GOOD...TOPICS • To date, we have offered 10 different topics - • General Library Research (discontinued) • Books & Ebooks (discontinued) • Database Searching (the most popular) • Career Research (the 2nd most popular) • Plagiarism • Fake News (using GoToTraining) • Nexis Uni (not regularly offered) • MLA Style (3rd most popular) • APA Style • Chicago Style (low attendance, but requested by HIST)

SO FAR SO GOOD....STUDENTS • Attendance to date (Spring 2017 through Spring 2018) • About 40 instructors have had students attend webinars • From 24 subject areas (ANTH to TECA) • 39 different courses (5 from ENGL) • 134 different course sections • 816 students (may have attended more than one) • Staff attendance – about 2 dozen instances

- I had done some GoToMeeting/Webinar/Training webinars in the past for both students and faculty with mixed results – low attendance, little chance of scalability with just one librarian, little interest from other librarians, but attendee feedback was good and faculty interest seemed high But then.....a few years later, I detected a shift in the wind. Some of our newer librarian hires actually seemed interested in online efforts! And these efforts seemed to be buoyed by more centralized support from the top. I sensed it was time to strike....
