This document describes an asset tracking solution using beacons. Fixed beacons are placed throughout a warehouse to map areas, while mobile beacons are attached to assets. When a mobile device's app detects beacons, it can determine the asset's location. All beacon data is sent to a cloud-based management system in real time. Users can then track assets by having their beacons emit sounds using the mobile app. This beacon-based solution aims to help warehouses precisely locate assets.

The Concept is based on:
 Enterprise Beacons (built foroutdoors and industrial environments, with powerful battery – up to4 years estimated, and
provided with buzzer, foraudio orientation).
 A dedicated mobile application, available for iOS devices (Android coming up next).
 The Onyx Beacon Content Management System(CMS),which gathers datain real time.

The Hardware
The solution works with twotypesof beacons:
 FIXED BEACONS which help in warehouse mapping and localisation.
 MOBILE BEACONSplaced on assets, able topreciselyidentify the merchandises.
The Fixed Enterprise Beacons can be powered also via power supply or byUSB connection).

The Strategy of coverage– Fixed Beacons
 Use a plan of your warehouse and split the surface in squares of 20to 30meters width.
 Trytoidentify accessible points on the ceiling or on high vertical structures, very near tothe center of each square,where
you can place the Fixed Beacons.
 The width of each square depends on how high is the ceiling. Itis desirable that the final distance fromthe Fixed Beacon
tothe margins of the square tobe of max. 30meters.

Install Fixed Beacons
 Stick Enterprise Beacons on plane surfaces on the interior side of the ceiling, avoiding any possible contact with mobile
lifts and elevators, machines or other installations.
 Name each Fixed Beacon toprecisely identify the areacovered bythe device.

Ready to work
 Your entire warehouse is now mappedand covered byFixed Beacons.
 Beacons B1 and C1 could be tagged as Entry/ExitBeacons in this layout.

Install and Assign Mobile Beacons
 Mobile Beacons will be attached or screwed on a plane exterior surface of the Asset.
 Placing Mobile Beacons on plastic envelopes glued on packages could be auseful idea.
 Each Mobile Beacon will be assigned tothe AssetID, byusing the CMS cloud platform.

Place Assets in the Warehouse
 After installing the Mobile Beacon, the Asset can be placed in the warehouse.
 A mobile device installed atthe Entry/ Exit of the warehouse could precisely record the entry or exit of the package and
all other relevant information: date,time etc.
 This fixedmobile device atthe Entry is not mandatory, location datawill be gathered via a mobile device used by the
personnel or installed on a forklift or mobile crane.

How the solution works
 All information is collected and updated,byusing a mobile device.
 The mobile device identifies Mobile Beacons and Fixed Beacons in its range and the mobile application associates the
Mobile Beacon with the Fixed Beacon location/area.
 Datais transferred in real time tothe cloud CMS platform and any location change is identified when a mobile device
with the application installed on arrives in that area.

How to rapidly identify your Asset
 Look in the Mobile Appor CMS to see exactlywhere the Mobile Beacon was last seen.
 Go in that specific area with the mobile device and push the TRACKbutton.
 The Mobile Beacon will emit a Beep signal, and the mobile application will also emit a sound with variable intensity as
you are getting closer tothe Asset.
