The document discusses a photo being considered for the front cover of a magazine. It notes that the photo stands out due to the large contrast in colors between the man's clothing and the background. Bright lighting enhances this contrast and eliminates shadows. However, there is one shadow under the man's right arm due to lack of lighting from all angles, which is atypical for magazine covers. The man's relaxed body language fits the magazine's laidback theme. The shadow would need to be removed through photo editing if this photo is selected.
The document discusses research into the use of lighting, contrast, and color in film posters and openings. It notes how Game of Thrones uses contrasting colors and lighting to make images stand out while maintaining a dark tone. It also analyzes the use of bright colors and contrast between orange and blue in the Aladdin poster to divide characters. The research finds that blue is commonly used in animation posters to create a calm feeling, and that color contrast can represent different factions or moralities in stories. Overall, the document examines how visual elements like lighting, color, and contrast are implemented in other works and can be applied to the creator's own projects.
The Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood opening animation provides numerous techniques and elements that could inform the viewer's own work:
- It establishes the backstory and tone through concise visuals at the beginning.
- Smooth transitions between shots using blowing leaves.
- Contrasting title text against backgrounds for clarity.
- Stylized movement lines to depict wind and motion.
- Emotive character faces to convey personality.
- Compromising between quality and frame rate for action scenes.
- Distinct architectural styles to indicate settings.
- Individual raindrop animation for realism.
- Audio synchronization with visual pacing and intensity.

Key colors used are black, white and red, common in horror to signify threatening themes. The house style continues elements from other Insidious films like the circled tagline. The goal is to intrigue audiences and effectively communicate the horror genre.
This document evaluates three images being considered for a summer advertising campaign for young people.
For the first image, minor edits were made such as cropping to feature the model and leave space for text. Brightness and contrast were tweaked to make colors more vibrant.
The second image required minimal changes - only contrast and brightness were altered to define leaves and make the model appear brighter. No cropping was needed.
The third image needed the most work as it was oversaturated. Brightness and contrast were adjusted and it was cropped to focus on the smiling model and leave room for branding elements. All edits aimed to select images that encapsulate the campaign's summer theme and appeal to young audiences.
The document analyzes and summarizes three film posters and three film magazine covers. For each poster/magazine, key details are highlighted such as use of color, images, fonts, quotes, and elements that provide clues to the genre and plot. Overall trends noted are use of bold colors, serious expressions, guns or weapons, and minimal text to intrigue audiences without revealing too much about the film.
This document provides analysis of four photographs by different photographers:
1. Oliver Grunewald's "Blue Lava" photo shows the rare blue lava from a volcano in Ethiopia. It was taken to showcase natural beauty.
2. Grunewald's "Aurora Borealis" photo captures the northern lights mixing with a sunset, showing two opposing forces in the night sky.
3. Nick Ut's "Napalm Girl" photo documents a young Vietnamese girl fleeing a napalm attack, highlighting the human cost of war.
4. A Vietnam War-era soldier's helmet photo reads "War is Hell," suggesting even soldiers oppose war's cruelty.
This image shows a blue lava eruption from the Erta Ale volcano in Ethiopia. It was taken to showcase the rare natural phenomenon of cerulean lava caused by high sulfur content. The photographer intends to display the image in natural landscape exhibitions and museums to educate viewers about this unique spectacle. The composition frames the blue lava in the foreground against the black landscape, drawing the eye with its unnatural hue.
Emma Weeks proposes an illustrated project focusing on surreal portraiture photography. She will analyze works by surrealist artists to better understand the genre. The document includes annotations of surreal images by several students. The annotations describe what appeals to them about each image, including compositional elements, symbolism, and political or social connotations. Emma also lists several inspirational surrealist artists to inform her project.

The document provides details about a fashion magazine shoot held in the natural setting of Sankey Valley. The shoot aims to showcase casual, high street fashion for a target audience of 16-19 year olds. Photos from the shoot portray models of that age group dressed in outdoorsy clothing while making eye contact with the camera to create a personal connection with viewers. The final spread in the magazine highlights different colors and styles through a series of photos taken outdoors in natural light.
This photograph promotes hand sanitizer usage. It aims to disgust viewers by focusing on unclean fingers on a payphone receiver. The shallow focus draws eyes to the dirty center, while the fast shutter eliminates blur on the fingers. The purpose is to encourage personal hygiene and hand sanitizing through negative imagery.
The document discusses the key aspects included in a poster and magazine cover created to promote a horror film trailer. For the poster, the creator used subtle body horror elements, a dark color palette, and images that intrigue without revealing too much of the plot. The magazine cover features a close-up lead character photo, behind-the-scenes images, and bold colors tied to horror conventions. Both pieces link to the trailer's style through similar lighting, color schemes, and slow revelation of the storyline. The poster targets 15-25 year olds on social media, while the magazine aims for a slightly broader mainstream 15-25 demographic.
The document compares photos from the magazine cover of Kerrang magazine and the author's own magazine cover. Both covers represent similar social groups by featuring models staring directly at the camera in natural poses to appear down to earth. While the expressions differ slightly, with Kerrang appearing more playful and the author's cover more serious, the hairstyles are both natural looks. The camera shot and lighting are also similar between the covers, though Kerrang uses a lower angle to make their model appear popular while the author's is at eye level. Costume choices further represent the different emotions being conveyed, with Kerrang in bright clothes and the author's model in dark clothes.
The document discusses several magazine covers and film posters, providing analysis of their visual elements and how effectively they convey information about the featured content. Regarding a Harry Potter film poster, the analysis notes its simplistic imagery of the burning Hogwarts building effectively foreshadows events in the film. Another poster featuring many actors is criticized for being too cluttered. A horror film poster is praised for its minimalist style in line with genre conventions and how it hints at the film's plot through images and text.
The document discusses and analyzes several movie posters and magazine covers:
1) A Harry Potter movie poster is praised for its simplicity in depicting the burning Hogwarts building, symbolizing disorder and foreshadowing the plot.
2) Another Harry Potter poster is criticized for having too many images of characters, making it distracting.
3) A horror movie poster is analyzed for using minimal colors and images to intrigue viewers without revealing too much of the plot.
4) A magazine cover promoting the movie Inception is said to effectively feature Leonardo DiCaprio and use similar colors and imagery to the film's posters.

Best practices for project execution and deliveryCLIVE MINCHIN
A select set of project management best practices to keep your project on-track, on-cost and aligned to scope. Many firms have don't have the necessary skills, diligence, methods and oversight of their projects; this leads to slippage, higher costs and longer timeframes. Often firms have a history of projects that simply failed to move the needle. These best practices will help your firm avoid these pitfalls but they require fortitude to apply.
1. Purpose:
The purpose of this image is to show the true effects of war and could be used in
a paper or magazine possibly even posters. This photo shows how emotions can
be expressed through dramatic photography. This image may generate revenue
through anti war campaigns or news reports, this generates income through the
sales of media and how many people buy the magazine or watch the news report
dependent on the agreement between the photographer and the news agency.
Robbers Capa took photos of several different scenes that where pro and anti
war this is because of the vast variety of selection on the battleground.
In this image it shows a child and a trail do dead body’s behind, this is effective
because it shows a new way of war. Using the innocents of children and
corrupting this for the manipulation of war.
As shown in the image the rule of thirds has been used to show the devastation
left behind a young soldier. This photo has been carefully composed to how this
and allows the viewer to create there own conclusions. In this image the subject
is offset and this allows for the eye line to be fully recognised. The deep glare of a
killer in the body of a child is emotionally unsettling. And the death that he has
left behind truly shows the brutality of war and leads viewers eye to the
devastation.
After closely analysing the black and white colours use show how war is depicted
in black and white. Even with the absence of colour the image is still effective
and questions the morality of war, this is a difficult image to truly understand
because there is no back-story and allows for the viewer to create their own. The
use of natural sunlight is effective because it shows how spontaneous the image
is and how it is not a pre meditated photo. Also because of the image being black
and white the sunlight is seen to be a lot more vibrant and attractive in the still
frame. The costume in this image is effective because it is uniform and it is too
big for the child wearing it because they are not designed to be wore by kids.
2. Meaning
The meaning of this image can be interpreted in several different ways, but in my
opinion the meaning of this image is to show how war can be poisonous and can
corrupt innocence. This is because of the child and what he is being exposed to at
such a young age. This is shocking to people who have not been brought up in
this conditions and is very heart breaking to know what the innocence has been
stripped away form the young man at the age he is.
Image 2
Purpose:
The purpose of this image is to the effects of war on civilians and how they have
been submerged into cold conditions to escape the brutality of conflict. This
image might be used is several different media formats one charity magazines
and leaflets and the other being campaign media with newspapers or other
paper formats. Moving on the way that this image would make revenue would be
through the sales of the image to media outlets and online sales. This image
could also make revenue form charities and charity promotion.
The composition of this image is shows the surrounding of the people and how
there are in the middle of the battleground. This photo also separate the
individuals within the image this allows for the viewer to see the individual
expressions. For example the lady on the left has very strong and negative facial
features. And because of her age the viewer feels that she should not be forced
to leave her home and be put through such an ordeal. This is because of the
western ideas that people hold and because this image is being sold to
westerners and not the people in the countries of desperation and by playing on
the heart stirrings of the audience. The central quadrant is the most interesting
because it fits three people give a claustrophobic feel to the image and give the
photo some meaning and shows the viewer that all they have is each other and
how they are sticking together.
This image is a very the costume in this image show the wealth of the subjects
with torn and out-dated clothing shows how wealthy they are. Also the way they
3. all women most likely left by there men because they had to go and fight and
now are running for their lives. Also in this image uses natural light and is
effective because it is also black and white like the other photo by Robert Capa.
Following this the purpose of this image is to show how war can affect families
as well as individuals and children.
The meaning of this image is to show how war is brutal and this goes against
propaganda. This is effective because it allows for the viewer to see both sides of
the war media. Another meaning of this image is to let the emotions of the
subjects to tell the viewer all about the image because a picture paint a thousand
words.
Image 3
Purpose:
This image is a cityscape; the photographer ‘ALISDAIR MILLER’ may have taken this
photo to create revenue. This image could be used in many different ways to add to
‘ALISDAIR MILLER’ portfolio or to be sold online to be used for anyone’s purposes.
Another avenue that this image could be used as adverting and promotional usage,
this is good for raising revenue because of how adaptable the image can be used. I
also believe this image was taken to show the beauty of architecture in the 21
century. I believe this because this photograph shows a vast array of buildings and
the many different shapes and sizes that create different depths with the washed
out mist.
Frame:
This image has been composed is a different way to many other cityscape images.
This is because of the angel and the framing; the main focus of this image is the Big
Ben. This is lit differently to any other building with a change in gradient to make the
peak of the tower a warmer orange colour surrounded by dark greys and blue that is
4. not so war. Referring to the rule of thirds the main focus is Big Ben and the house of
parliament this is because this building takes up the central three segments. This
draws the focus of the viewer and allows the image to add depth to the other
buildings. This is because the main focus in in the center the silhouette of the other
buildings in the mist, are elegant and attractive. Moving on the other quadrates of
this image can be seen as less attractive but still effective for example the water has
a personality of its own and adds to the mood for the image adding a contrasting
mood to other parts of the photo.
Image analyses:
This image contains several building s the predominant one being Big Ben. The
colour of this photo is important because it changes throughout the image having
war and contrasting colours such as blue and orange. This Image also uses natural
light and utilizes this to show all of London. This image was taken form an elevated
position over London either form a helicopter or a building on the other side of the
bridge. There is no costume used in this image because of the genre that it caters for
and the only objects that are present are inanimate and don’t move. This image
could be used in many different ways and is interesting because it is unusual and
diverse. The natural light also complements the shadows that are cast in the mist
and the use of this allows for post effects to be added to the image. Following this
you can identify this because of the fading that happens between the dark water and
the lighter tower.
Meaning:
The meaning of this image I believe is to show the lighter side of the city and
allow for a different perspective of the world. This is because if you live in a place
for a wile you take your surroundings for granted and forget the simple
architecture that at some point in time was a grate human success that has been
forgotten over time.
5. Image 4
Purpose:
The purpose of this image is very similar to the first image by ALISDAIR MILLER. It
makes revenue in the same ways through online sales are going to be the
predominant revenue source other uses such as advertising are also good ways of
getting money. Alternatively ALISDAIR MILLER could use these images to add to a
portfolio so they can interest people to do commissions for them in the future. I also
think this image was captured to provoke interest from viewers in a gallery because
of the surreal elements in the image and how you wouldn’t see this image every day.
Frame:
The farming and composition of this image is different to the fist image this is
because of the angle and the different perspective that has been used for a level
position and not an elevated. This makes it more of visual image although when the
rule of thirds is introduced the center of the image is empty and is filled with a
distant bridge. The main focus would be the buildings to the right this is because
they are in focus and the buildings on the left are less in focus.
Image analyses:
This image shows a canyon that has 2 different cities on both sides. The level of light
in this image is low and slightly depressing also the use of only natural gives the
setting a negative aspect. The use of colour is also limited with grays and blues as the
majority of the limited colour pallet. There is no use of costume in this photograph
because it a picture of buildings and a natural canyon.
Meaning
The meaning of this image is to show city’s in a different way other than form the
ground and form a different angle. Also this image shows the evolution proses with
a mixture of nature and modern humanity. Also this image reveals that even modern
elements with natural can work together to not be an eye saw.
Holger Droste
My next photographer is Holger Droste he works with surreal photography this is
different to other photographers because of the different audiences that it caters for.
The purpose of this photograph in particular is to provoke interest and artistically
show the world in a different way. This image could raise revenue through several
different ways one could be through seeing the images to books or artists and
publishers for car themed books or they could be sold online for copyright rights and
used online for advertising or placed in an artistic portfolio that can be viewed by
keen photographers for inspiration.
Following this the composition of this frame is different to the rest because it has no
human subjects like Robert Capa and is not an extreme wide like ALISDAIR MILLER.
This image is vignette and following the Rule of thirds the darker edges allow for the
light to provide a main focus in this case the car and the decay of the car. Having the
glair form the light also shows the shine off the old American styled wheel arches
and even though it is old and rusting is on of the most intact parts of the vehicle.
This particular frame uses light to its advantage only using a key light to show all of
the details of the car and the tree it has collided with. In this image the location is
not specified but looks to be in a forest that is just off a road. There is no use of
costume in this image because the subject is a car. Following this the minimalistic
6. use of colour is very surreal and interesting. This works for the Photographer
because the use of this colour pallet works for the subject he is photographing. The
purpose of this image shows the decay of things and display a story I a single image.
Meaning
The meaning of this image is that nature is claiming the car back and decay of the
car is interesting because it does this in a significant way. Also the I believe the
meaning of this image is to show how time stops for no one and eventually that
could happen to anything and one day out modern will just be a piece of scrap.
Purpose:
The Purpose of this image is to show paredolia the face of this car, this image
could be displayed in may different places and could be sold either online or to
people who are looking for surreal images for Magazines or newspaper
advertisements. Following this tis image could also be used in art galleries and
make revenue form sales.
Frame
The composition of this image is similar to the first with the dark edges and main
focus on the car. The main different in this image is the rule of thirds; the central
focus is the center of the car and the grill, and the different lighting shows more
of the vehicle. And the colour pallet has been allowed to show the green of the
bonnet.
Analysis
The lighting used in this image is different to the first changing the style of
Holger Droste usual standard. The use of natural key light allows for the whole of
the car to be captured and the different reflections of the paint word give the
image depth and life. Continuing my analysis the dead foliage and branches show
the viewer how long the car has been there for and shows that the vehicle has
been left there to decay and rust. The different tones of colour also show
sunlight damage and loss of chrome. Also the darker brown of the floor give the
7. image a dark and grunge like feeling. There has been no costume used in this
image because of the nature of the image.
Meaning.
The meaning of this is could also be a marketing campaign for the old and new
and how time changes. The image also shows how cars have changed and even
how junk can have character. This can also show how even cars that haven’t
been riven for a long time can be as interesting if not more interesting than new
and unused cars.
