Editor's Notes

  1. In order to clearly understand how the technology works, it is important to review how gasses get into water in the first place. When a gas comes into contact with a liquid, the gas will tend to dissolve into the liquid. The amount of gas that will dissolve into the water is proportional to the pressure of the gas. This phenomena is governed by Henry’s law. Henry’s lay states that the partial pressure of a gas (p) is directly proportional to the amount of gas( x) that will dissolve into the water. Air at 1.0 atm (760 mm Hg) that comes into contact with water will tend to dissolve into the water. Under these conditions about 8.5 ppm of oxygen and 14.1 ppm nitrogen will dissolve into the water. By lowering the pressure or changing the concentration of gas in contact with the water we can create a driving force to move the dissolved gas from the liquid into the gas phase
