The Effects Of Arsenic On Drinking Water Essay
Analysis of Arsenic in Drinking Water
Analysis: Trends
Arsenic is well known for its dangerous toxic features it brings to humans and the environment. But, it
was not until the late 1980 s did scientists and public health officials realized that even at low doses of
ingestion, arsenic is very dangerous and can cause serious health effects (Bolt, 2013). Till this day
arsenic continues to be a huge public health issue, not only in parts of the United States but in
developing countries worldwide (Bolt, 2013). The main trend that researchers have been focusing on
is the amount of arsenic that is contaminating drinking water. Arsenic has been known to be a health
issue in water for many years, but it was not until the 1980 s and later that the government and
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) started to really crack down on monitoring it (Agency for
Toxic Substances and Disease Registry [ATSDR] , 2010). Before 2001 the legal amount of arsenic that
was allowed in drinking water was 50 parts per billion (ppb), but since then public health officials and
the government realized that this amount of arsenic in the water was making people sick (ATSDR,
2010). So on January 22, 2001, the EPA adopted a new standard of 10 ppb of arsenic is drinking water
(ATSDR, 2010). This level has been tested to be the safest allowable amount of arsenic in drinking
water to be ingested by humans. To this day parts of the world and about 2% of the United States are
still having issues with keeping the

Analysis Of Tom Jones And Moll Flanders Essay
The novels Tom Jones and Moll Flanders share a commonality, and showcase it in very similar ways.
That commonality is the pursuit of wealth, but at the same time it is also a discrepancy, which is
shown through how the story s title characters set out to obtain it, and their views regarding it. Before
we can divulge what our characters view wealth as, we must grasp an understanding of the term itself.
Merriam Webster s dictionary defines wealth as the value of all the property, possessions, and money
that someone or something has. (Merriam Webster) Wealth can also be perceived in a spiritual sense,
were one is content with their life and often has a strong relationship with God. For our purposes here,
I think it is safe to assume that our authors mean to use wealth in its physical sense of possessions and
dollar signs rather than enlightenment in their novels. Through this work we will examine with
evidence why love and money is equitable in these two novels. We will also show why our
protagonists are complete opposites of one another when talking about their wealth. We will first
examine our novels characters and their pursuit of monetary gain, starting with Moll Flanders and it s
protagonist of the same pseudonym. From the onset of the novel Moll is always lusting after the
carefree lifestyle. As a young girl Moll refuses to work when she is living with her family. At last one

Surgeon s List
Operating the theatre is very costly so it is vital to manage the surgeon s list efficiently; moreover, it
should ensure safety and quality in care (Rymaruk, Buch 2015). The surgeon s list comprises of the
cases that has to be performed through the day. It is the foundation of the proper functioning of the
operating room (Gore 2016). This essay will discuss the issues relating to the list management which
includes the scheduling of the list, skill mix and staffing, resource management and challenges. Poor
management, from any previously mentioned issues, leads to delays that impact the patient s health,
and increase the workload for staff (Higgins et al. 2011). It can also contribute to the increase in
hospital budget with operational theatre ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Initially the upper lobectomy patient who required an ICU bed was first on the list. However due to
the latex patient it was rescheduled to be the second procedure, but because of the lack of strycker
stack system, all the VAT had to be brought forward resulting in upper lobectomy being booked as the
fourth case. Regardless of its delay, the ICU bed would still not be available if the surgery was to be
performed fourth, thus the bronchoscopy surgery was conducted prior to the upper lobectomy
procedure, in order to preserve time. If this case was done before, then the patient would have had to
be kept in the theatre, thus impeding on the time available to perform the following surgeries. Hence,
by rescheduling the list to allow the upper lobectomy case to be conducted fifth, it allowed the
smoother flow of surgeries while exhibiting a more efficient time management. As time consumption
was also reduced, it decreased the cost as it increased the amount of patients treated with the same
resource (Officer of the Auditor General (OAG) 2015). However, despite the time management, the
theatre went overtime. An element that contributed to the overrunning of the theatre is due to the VAT
surgeries being performed by a training surgeon under the supervision of a consultant. The hospital
facilities the training of junior surgeons. Junior surgeons are more time consuming due to their
inexperience and

Fibrous Capsule Essay
Doctors may use the terms cancer, malignancy, lump, neoplasm, growth and tumour interchangeably.
The tumour is often multifocal i.e. there are several tumour nodules present within the liver. We do not
know if this is because it starts off as one tumour that then spreads within the liver via blood vessels,
or if several separate tumours start to grow at the same time. Once the tumour cells get into the blood
circulation, HCC can spread to the lungs, bones and nearly any other part of the body. Tumour cells
can also travel along the lymph vessels to the lymph glands (also called lymph nodes) at the base of
the liver. HCC is the most common primary hepatic tumor and one of the most common cancers
worldwide. HCC is a primary malignancy of hepatocellular origin. The radiologic characteristics of

expansive HCC lesions have a well developed fibrous capsule. The fibrous capsule is demonstrated by
CT as a hypoattenuating rim, and enhances in the delayed phase. The different components may show
various attenuation indexes on CT images, particularly if areas of well differentiated tumor with
different degrees of fatty metamorphosis are present. Internal septa show delayed enhancement,
similar to that of the fibrous capsule. HCC has a typical tendency to produce small or minute satellite
nodules ( daughter lesions), frequently located in the vicinity of the main tumor. These nodules,
representing intrahepatic metastases usually developed via the portal vein branches, show the same CT
appearance of the main tumor. In the case of multicentric development, multiple small tumors may

The Importance Of Characterization In Troilus And Cressida
From how people structure their speeches to how they use words, the audience can understand a lot
about their traits and personalities. This is used by many authors in literature, and it is called
characterization. Characterization is the method in which the author reveals the attributes of
characters. In the play, Troilus and Cressida, Shakespeare uses speeches by two Greek leaders to
further their characterizations. This story takes place during the Trojan War, in which the Greeks
fought the Trojans over the theft of Menelaus wife, Helen. While the main story of the play revolves
around the two lovers, Troilus and Cressida, Shakespeare incorporates many aspects of the war as
well. In Act I Scene III, Agamemnon, the general of the Greek army, encourages the Greek army by
motivating them to persevere through the long lasting war. He believes that the Gods are trying to test
them, and Troy will eventually crumble if they show constancy. On the other hand, Ulysses, one of the
Greek leaders, responds to Agamemnon with another speech emphasizing that the reason for the
failures of their camp is the absence of hierarchy. This exchange exhibits Agamemnon s imperfect
character and Ulysses intelligence through their rhetoric, which also relates to their roles in the Greek
army. Throughout his speech, Agamemnon is unnecessarily verbose in sharing his predictable point,
and the repetitive structure of his speech displays incompetence in leadership. At the start of his
address, he poses a rhetorical question, What grief hath set the jaundice on your cheeks? (1.3.2),
asking his soldiers about why they look so downhearted. He replies to this by stating that all people
have their checks and disasters, (1.3.5), referring to obstacles and setbacks, and that they should
continue to be persistent. He uses the imagery of a knot that diverts the course of growth and how the
growth of the Greek army will be prevented with the lack of determination. As the speech continues,
he presents another rhetorical question: Why then, you princes,/Do you with cheeks abashed behold
our works/And call them shames, (3.1.17 19) which was essentially the identical as the opening
question. It also has the same word choice of cheeks, and

Literary Analysis Of Superman
John Ondrasik s Superman, expresses the message of society expecting perfection and putting people
on too high of a pedestal. Using Superman as a symbol, Ondrasik unveils the hardship of living up to
the expectations of society. Due to his unique abilities and powers, society expects nothings less than
perfection from Superman. Having lost his family and home planet It is not easy to be [Superman].
Superman has to fight everything that society tells him to so that he can be himself. He is put on a
high pedestal in society and is expected to perform in tough situations. Many people in the world look
up to Superman due to his special powers. Society assumes Superman s life is easy and perfect since
he has these powers which make a mockery of mere mortals but it is not. Superman wishes people did
not think so much of him and tries hard to please everyone. Frustration builds up and Superman feels
like killing himself (hence the kryptonite). Superman simply cannot make a mistake since he is always
expected to succeed. Similarly, many people in our society are put on high pedestals. Even students
like ourselves, are expected to receive straight A s and never score inadequate on a test. Eventually,
when these students receive a mediocre grade, they are ashamed of themselves. These students are
frightened to inform their parents since their expectations are so high. Athletes are also put under
tremendous pressure to perform in big games. Failing is simply not an option. If one fails to succeed,
the loss will follow them around for the rest of their lives. A stamp of failure will revolve around their
name. Similarly, Superman feels like he is put on a high pedestal. Society does not let Superman cry
or dream since he is not a normal person. He is not expected to cry or dream . His duty is to protect
Earth from deleterious villains and he does not have a choice to say no. Society needs to be less naive
and understand that reaching perfection is not possibly. Like Superman, men in today s society are
socialized to be strong, dependable, and emotionless. Men are required to repress their emotions and
expected to live up to a ridiculous idea of what it is to be a man . Using Superman as a symbol is a

pre stitched clothing. The standardization of clothing sizes served as a step towards an overall growth
in convenience for consumers. Preceding the Civil War, ready to wear clothing stores were few and far

The Accomplishments Of The Whitney Houston
As I lay me down, heaven hear me now. I m lost without a cause, after giving it

who on earth can I turn to? I look to you, quoted from the song I Look to You by
Whitney Houston. Whitney Houston came out with this song after she got out of rehab,
making it seem like it was her recovery song or letting her world of fans know she was

celebrities. Whitney also called Nippy was born on August 9, 1963 in Newark, New
Jersey. Whitney is an American recording artist, actress, and former fashion model.
Whitney began singing in her church choir wanting nothing more than to become a
backup singer like her mother. But by the time she was eleven, she refused to be in the
background any longer and desired to take center stage one evening to sing a solo. This
was only the beginning of Whitney s classic life into stardom. This essay should prove
that anyone can make mistakes and still be remembered as great. People should know
that she made mistakes but she took her mistakes and made it her testimony.

Social Norms And Violatio Folktales
As society we have never given much thought as to how we function to how society . This statement
is not only true on a macro level, such as how our government functions along with other aspects of
society but also as individuals. Furthermore, we as individuals rarely stop to think about the reasons
we have to react the way we do in certain situations. It can be almost guaranteed that we react in these
ways because of norms. Norms can be defined as expectations of right behavior (Henslin 2015).

grounded for a couple days, it is about life and death. Throughout the crucible there are multiple cases
of scapegoating as characters try to avoid being thrown in jail or hanged. Abigail is the biggest culprit
of using scapegoats to cast the light on someone else rather than herself. Abigail realizes at the

Erectile Dysfunction Essay
Impotence or erectile dysfunction (ED) is a disease that affects men. Many people suffer from this
disease, at least once in their lives. The exact data for this disease is hard to gather, because many

Vietnam Essay
Prior to the start of our study of the Vietnam Era, I thought that I knew quite a bit about the Vietnam
War and the overall time period. But after listening to some guest speakers and reading Tim O Brien s
The Things They Carried, I discovered that I knew hardly anything, and that most of what I did know
was pretty much insignificant. These past weeks were not only extremely educating, but it was also
very interesting. I learned more than I ever thought I would, mostly through the people that know it
best, those who lived through it.
The most important thing I learned about Vietnam and the time period in which it took place, is that it
was so confusing. It seems as if nobody really knew what was going on or ... Show more content on

Soldiers were always looking for something to hang on to. They had to forget about their families and
the world they left behind into order to survive. In a place they knew absolutely nothing about, they
were so scared. They were scared of what they saw, but also of what they couldn t see, which was
usually the scariest thing of all. They were scared to make friends, for fear of suffering loss. They
were scared of not making it home. But then again, even after the war was hard. Soldiers kept on
having flashbacks, many became violent. The war changed everyone, and their families had to pay the
price.
The war inspired many of the surviving soldiers to do things. Some wrote books, some wrote poetry,
and some wrote music about their experiences in Vietnam. The war also inspired some people to do
one of the most rewarding things they could possibly do, which is to teach and not necessarily about
Vietnam, but just teaching in general. But those who do decide to teach about their experiences in
Vietnam have the rare opportunity to express themselves, their feelings, and the material they teach in
a way that no other teacher can do. They have the chance to pass on their knowledge in a unique
subject area, where they can it teach better than anybody else possibly could.

The Futility Of Dreaming By John Steinbeck

English ENG1D: Block 7
February 5, 2015
The Futility of Dreaming
As the late Osho believed, And desires are never here and now they are non existential. They are just
mental, in the mind. And they cannot be fulfilled because their very nature is to move into the future.
John Steinbeck s novella, Of Mice and Men explores this theme of futile desire through various
relationships and character complexes. This fictional story begins by introducing two men with a
relationship built from the very foundations of love. As the novel progresses, we begin questioning
innate truths. Steinbeck uses his literary prowess to entwine us within a story of loneliness, loss and
morality. The characters hopes and dreams, regardless of outcome, are a mechanism of survival and a
desire to lead something other than an otherwise inconsequential existence.
Steinbeck presents dreams as a tool to aid the men of the ranch s contentment. They give a sense of
purpose, a reward for long days of hard labor on the ranch. The idea of dreams prolonging survival
and happiness is best portrayed by the dream and relationship shared by Lennie and George. Their
mutual dream to live offa the fatta the lan (Steinbeck 57) brings to light their need of other s
companionship to alleviate isolation and loneliness, and to make their dream seem more realistic. To
immerse oneself in this idyllic fantasy world with acres of vegetable garden, and rabbits, was the

Women s Subjectivity in Arabian Nights by Judith Grossman
Judith Grossman wrote an article concerning women s subjectivity in Arabian Nights. The article
brought out many points to which I had never given thought. As I read the novel, I saw that women
were considered evil and bad, but I didn t think much more of it. After reading Grossman s article I
must say I agree with many of the thoughts expressed. She focuses on the fact that women are
considered to be evil, but it is just because their true self has never had a chance to be free. Women are
locked into this reciprocal cycle of deceit and unfaithfulness, only after being oppressed by their
husbands or keepers, as in the case of the Jinnee and the maiden. Grossman s article ... Show more

The maiden says, But I have lain under as many men as I ve desired, and this wretched jinnee doesn t
realize that destiny cannot be averted or hindered by anything and that whatever a woman wants, she
will get, no matter how much a man might try to prevent it.(11) It is easy to see that she is rebelling in
her own way against the rules set forth by the jinnee and all of mankind. She has a deep hatred
towards men, and she makes herself feel better by dominating strange men and threatening them with
the loss of their lives. Although she cannot actually kill them her captor the jinnee, will without a
second thought. Though she is dominated by the jinnee, she has a power over the men she finds. This
evens out the balance of power a little between the jinnee and the maiden. Women are made out to be
awful, horrible creatures from which men should take cover. In Arabian Nights there are many
passages in which women are negatively portrayed. For example, This only proves that all women will
make cuckolds out of their husbands when given the chance...No man in this world is safe from the
malice of women! (6) This is only one of many blatant sexist remarks in this text. Grossman takes the
stance in her article, ...but my focus is not on the solipsistic narrator it is on narration as a social act
undertaken in a specified context of events.(113) To me this means that she is focusing on what
character is doing the narration in the context

Leadership In The Odyssey
The Oxford dictionary defines empowerment as, The authority or power given to someone to do
something. Leaders use empowerment to improve employee reliance and commitment to the
company, by providing them with the ability to make decisions when it is needed. By granting them
this authority, the employee would be given control of a portion of the business which would provide
an incentive to work harder for the company with the chance for more authority and responsibility in
the future. In this paper, we shall provide a brief history of a major reference to empowerment
leadership styles, ways to empower employees, and the effect of employee empowerment in a
company.
The history of leadership empowerment can be dated back to the early Greeks. This can be seen from
Homer s Odyssey which was used to teach the people of ancient Greece to recognize good leadership
when it presented itself and how to identify crucial elements of good leadership such as respect and
reciprocity. This story would go on to help shape the idea of leadership and empowerment by detailing
the story of Odysseus a soldier who goes to war and his journey home. During his trials and journey,
he encounters many challenges, but is empowered by the Greek Gods to complete his tests.

for crowded cities. For agricultural land, when planting the trees farmer should keep a distance from
high voltage transmission lines and plant trees which does not grow for high distance. The advantages
of using underground power transmission lines over the overhead lines is that they do not shade the

Importance Of Social Entrepreneurship Essay
IS SOCIAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP THE BEST WAY TO HELP PEOPLE IN NEED?
Entrepreneurship is the process of designing, launching and running a new business while social
entrepreneurs launch the business and implement solutions to social, cultural, or environmental issues
simultaneously. Bill Drayton once said, There is nothing more powerful than a new idea in the hands
of a social entrepreneur. In the world, there are billions of people have no access to education,
healthcare, clean drinking water, food and even the basic human rights and respect. Violence, poverty
and more global issues are at the alarm rate nowadays. These matters have to be tackled immediately
before it is too late to do so. In our opinion, social entrepreneurship is the best way to help the needy
and overcome the problem. New ideas, opportunities and technologies are sought in solving long
standing social problems. There is a good example to indicate our words, social entrepreneur in South
America, Steve Katsaros. Can you imagine what was life like when oil lamps and candles were all we
had to light our cities with? Indoors was just as treacherous as outdoors. Katsaros invented a solar
powered light bulb that provide isolated villages with power, thus bypassing the need to bring a power
infrastructure out to remote areas. It has brought a great change in their daily lives which allow people
to work, study and play at night without the use of kerosene lamps, which may pollute the
environment and arise the respiratory diseases such as asthma. Consequently, Katsaros was able to
bring convenience to the people while he can also stay in his business by selling the bulbs to the
people. (The Guardian, 2009)
To cite the saying that social entrepreneurship is the best way to help people in need, we would like to
provide an outstanding example of social enterprise which is Grameen Bank. Grameen Bank was
officially founded in 1983 by Muhammad Yunus and it provides small loans, rather than charity, to the
poorest of the poor especially women in Bangladesh. This indeed provides an opportunity for the
people to transform their lives. In 2006, Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Muhammad Yunus and the

Reflection On Human Sexuality
This class was, potentially, the most enlightening out of any of our classes this semester. I tend to
think about myself as incredibly open minded and well rounded when it comes to understanding the
different aspects of human sexuality, but this class showed me how little I truly know. Listening to this
class s guest speakers illuminated me to the depth of the BDSM community that I had previously been
blind to. While I had known some about BDSM from simply a fetish/paraphilia/technical standpoint, I
wasn t aware that it also denoted such a rich community. I suppose that I could have expected that
BDSM would have it s own community, but, since it is outside of my realm of sexuality, I was
simplistic in the way that I understood BDSM as only a fetish. My simplistic thinking is made worse
when I consider the fact that one of my closest friends was a professional submissive for a few years
prior to coming to Reno, but I never asked many questions because I felt that it would be too personal
or would show potential holes in my knowledge. This is why I am so glad that we had guest speakers
for this topic in class. When I was reading this chapter in the Lehmiller book, I found it to be
informative on a baseline knowledge level, but it definitely lost a lot of the depth and complexity of
the fetishes and paraphilia themselves, and particularly the people that practice these aspects of
sexuality. Having a guest speaker come in allows for the other students, as well as myself, to

Bao Ninh s Sorrow of War Essay
Bao Ninh s Sorrow of War
When we think of the Vietnam War, we think of all the hell and torture that American soldiers went
through with little regard to the Vietnamese and the hardships they endured. Reading the Sorrow of
War gave me a clear understanding of the Vietnamese people and the suffering that the war caused
them. The Sorrow of War is unique and powerful in the sense that it is written by a Vietnam army
veteran and gives the perspective of the war from a Vietnamese soldier. It is one of the few novels that
has given the Vietnamese people a voice. In this beautiful novel, Bao Ninh manages to put a face on

However, the Vietnamese lost two million men, and their culture, society, landscape, and way of life
were torn apart by the war. The fact remains that the Vietnamese people lost more lives and went
through more hell than the Americans yet their side of the story has hardly been told.
The Sorrow of War is a powerful novel in the sense that it is one of the few novels written by a
Vietnamese soldier that manages to portray the Vietnamese soldier as an actual person and not just a
faceless image in the background Worse still, they have always been portrayed as faceless gooks ,
Charlie , or VC . For many years it appeared as if the Vietnamese participants in the conflict had no
identity (Ha). The Sorrow of War is one of the few novels that successfully paints a picture of the
other side of the conflict and gives light to the Vietnamese culture. The characters in the story are real
or become real by the end of the story. In most American made movies and novels the Vietnamese
soldier is faceless and without depth. They are seen as just pawns of a communist machine (Betke).
Bao Ninh does an incredible job of giving us a new view of the war through his semi autobiographical
novel that reflects his own experience of the Vietnam War.
It seems that Bao Ninh s purpose in writing this story was not only to represent the pain and struggles
of war but the makeup and morality of a culture and a society gone wrong. What makes

The Role Of The Dublin Lockout Of 1913
James Larkin, the leader of the Irish Trade Union and the founder of the Irish Transport and General
Workers Union once said The employers cannot carry on industry nor accumulate profits if they have
not got the good will of the workers or their acquiescence in carrying on such industry. In 1911, over
300,000 people lived in Dublin. The unemployment rates were high and the average labourers wage
was around one pound a week, and that was only if they had a full week of work. Living conditions
were equally as inadequate as the working wages. Lydia Carroll and Enda Leaney found in a housing
enquiry that 87,305 people lived in poverty, almost a third of Dublin s population. 80% of families
lived in one room dwellings. According to the Public Health Report of 1913, 8,639 deaths were
recorded, 1,444 were from tuberculosis and 4,642 were from nervous, circulatory, respiratory, and
digestive diseases such as diarrhoea and pneumonia due to inadequate sanitary and nutrition.(Devine,
pg 3 4) These conditions sparked many protests as workers became desperate. James Larkin became a

Gender Identity And Its Effect On Society
Although gender identity is an ascribed status one given at birth , society shapes that identity through
socialization. In the process of learning traits and activities that are desirable and correct individuals
internalize approved sex role behavior as a real part of themselves. (pg.500, Parrillo). The female, in
the world of sport earns the achieved status but then through society and Social Conditioning falls into
the role of being in the ascribed status.
SocioHistorical Perspective In 1896, Baron Pierre de Coubertin founder of modern Olympics stated :
No matter how toughened a sportswoman may be her organism is not cut out to sustain certain shocks
Those words placed over the gender of the female were motivating factors that generated the athlete.
Though degrading, I believe encouraging. Coubertin s words were also influential to the world of
sport, impacting the lives of many women, and possibly causing a setback to women s rights.
A rights based understanding of sport and physical activity has been present since the founding of the

The Theory Of Evolution In Aimee Bender s The Rememberer
The theory of evolution is a pivotal idea that influences the way that all species are seen, including
humans. The theory of evolution was established by Charles Darwin, and it presents the idea that
species adapt to fit new environments and changes can occur over time. If evolution allows organisms
to adjust over time to adapt to their environment, couldn t the opposite situation occur? The idea of
devolution is covered by Aimee Bender in her engaging story The Rememberer . Bender relates her
story to the idea of devolution by using her lover Ben to constantly devolve into different animals
throughout the story. The story begins with Ben being a human and immediately he devolves to
different animals. She reveals how the relationship was with Ben when he was human , and how it
evolved to the tragedy that it became. The more Ben devolves the weaker their relationship becomes,
until Ben completely disappears. Bender uses symbolism and the idea of devolution to illustrate the
physical and mental deterioration of a loved one, and as an outlet to ease her grief.
The use of symbolism is visible throughout the entire story. Bender uses different animals as stages to
her physical and mental deterioration. Bender is happy and contempt when her lover is human
however when her relationship takes a turn for the worse, she begins depicting Ben as different
animals devolving to a meaningless being. Bender has a tornado of emotions towards Ben but it is
evident that she truly loves him. When their relationship weakens Bender becomes dismal and
heartbroken, and in order to deal with her sorrow she uses symbolism to depict her lover devolving
with their relationship. It is clear when she is describing Ben, she begins with an ape, to monkey, to
turtle, and finally a salamander. She devolves Ben to an animal based on his significance in their
relationship. The symbolism is present from the beginning but gains significance when she states,
When I go to the kitchen, I peer in the pan and see he s some kind of salamander now. He s small
(Bender 2). When Ben becomes the salamander he is practically gone from the relationship, and is
when her mental and physical deterioration is at its peak. The symbolism also plays a separate

God s Rescue Operation By Wright Essay
God s Rescue Operation
Wright, in his book Simply Christian: Why Christianity Exists, argues that God has no intention of
abandoning this world , instead God has a glorious rescue operation planned, raising all His people to
new bodily life to live in it . (Wright 58) God has begun this magnificent rescue operation utilizing
Israel, the Church, and Jesus to complete his plan. Through these three, Wright believes that God
intends for the kingdom of the world to become kingdom of God in which the beauty of this world
will be enfolded in the beauty of God , only completing his rescue operation when the present world is
rescued, healed, restored, and completed. (Wright 78)
Israel, a nation with a history of insurgence, turmoil, and agony, is the start of God s rescue operation.
Israel, in the Bible, serves as a representation of the entirety of all of God s children. The story of
Israel itself has several common themes of going away and coming back home; of slavery and exodus;
of exile and restoration and these themes relate directly to Christianity s own themes. (Wright 75)
These leitmotifs are nothing new or desolate for the Jewish people. Israel is consistently in the news,
going through trials or being restored from them. More recent examples of these would be the
Holocaust, the restoration of the nation of Israel to their promised land, and the current issues between
the Muslims and Jews in Jerusalem regarding the ownership of the Temple Mount.

At the beginning of the episode when people are warned that there will be a hurricane, everyone turns
on each other by stealing, fighting and breaking things, for their own personal wealth, not worrying
about anyone else, the creators of the show purposefully exaggerate, this is in reference to what would
happen in anarchy, or post apocalyptic events, movies such as, The Purge, Mad Max 2 and I am
Legend cover this topic in more depth. Later in the episode, Ned Flanders asks, why did the hurricane
destroy only my house, I donate to 8 different churches and follow everything the bible says. This is
making fun of how much he heavily relies on the several churches to bring him security and wealth,
this pokes fun at the people in society think that giving to a church or several different churches will
grant them safety or wealth. Another satirical moment was in Ned Flanders flashback to when he was

Formatting the first page of your paper
Do not make a title page for your paper unless specifically requested.
Provide a double spaced entry in the top left corner of the first page that lists your name, your
instructor s name, the course, and the date.
Create a header that numbers all pages consecutively in the upper right hand corner, one half inch
from the top and flush with the right margin. (Note: Your instructor or whoever is reading the
manuscript may ask that you omit the number on your first page. Always follow their guidelines.)
Center your title on the line below the header with your name, and begin your paper immediately
below the title.
Here is a sample first page of an essay in MLA style:

A Critical Review Of Deborah Ryan s Argument
However, it is essential to point out that Deborah Ryan argued that to see pageants as anti modern is
an oversimplification. For example, Ryan deemed, by drawing on the argument presented by Bill
Schwarz, that the inventiveness of tradition may have required a popular projection of modernity and
of the future to sustain the idea of the past. This suggests that although Parkerian pageants can be
argued to be historical in the sense that it focuses on historical accuracy, Ryan s argument does not
undermine the importance of history. This is particularly because she suggests that pageants still
focused on the historic past in order to understand the present. Therefore, in Ryan s words pageants
can be seen as part of the modern mass culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This demonstrates that history was consumed in historical pageantry, to a certain extent. For instance,
Frank Lascelles explored the process of remembering in his 1907 Oxford historical pageant, which
was staged on the banks of the River Cherwell and comprised 15 scenes covering 1,000 years of
history of Oxford from St Frideswide. Lascelles brought a distinctive use of visual spectacle in his
pageant as many of the scenes consisted of spectacular tableaux with no words. This is particularly
because Lascelles believed that pageants should be concerned with the dramatic movement of masses
of people in processions and dance, often in blocks of colour, rather than with spoken dialogue which
is often tedious in the open air. While this was different from Parker s representation of pageants of
portraying history based upon how things really were and as they really happened , Ryan argued this
technique was particularly effective for conveying the act of remembering as a dialogue between the
past and the present . Therefore, it can be argued that history was just one more technology of
memory, one of a set of techniques developed in order that societies might remember. Although, this
suggests that as Lascelles pageants visualised the past via allegory in order to remember, one can
argue that it placed emphasis

Atherosclerosis Case Study
Two experimental systems will be used to determine if Mad1 overexpression promotes
atherosclerosis. Both sets of experiments are routinely performed in the laboratory of Dr. Lian Wang
Guo and will be performed in collaboration with him. First, a mechanical injury model will be used to
determine if elevated levels of Mad1 promote intimal hyperplasia. To generate the mechanical injury,
mice will be anesthetized and undergo bilateral endoluminal injury to the femoral artery by passing a
0.25 mm diameter angioplasty guidewire 3 times 56. 1 and 3 days post injury, protein expression will
be determined by immunoblot. HA and Mad1 antibodies will be used to measure expression and
localization of endogenous and inducible Mad1. PCNA will be used as a marker of VSMC

Netflix Is The World s Leading Internet Television Network
Alex Lee
As mentioned by the Netflix CEO, Reed Hastings, the core of the company s business is providing
DVD by mail and streaming. Netflix incorporation is in the business of providing on demand internet
streaming entertainment and providing DVD media by mail to many parts of the world. Netflix is the
world s leading internet television network with fifty million members among forty countries such as
North America, South America, United Kingdom, Finland, Ireland, Norway, Netherlands, Denmark,
and Belgium. This American company started in 1997 with its headquarters based in Los Gatos,

Businesses that have few powerful buyers are not often able to dictate the terms and conditions of a
business. However in Netflix s scenario, there are many powerful buyers which enforces the company
s terms. The buyers are so powerful that the Netflix CEO had to respond to the world with a written
apology. The New Market entrants include Amazon Prime, HBO Go, Hulu Plus, and Vudu. These
companies were attracted to the Internet streaming entertainment as being a profitable industry.
However, Netflix maintains its land by its originality i.e. being the first large scale operation of its
kind. Netflix also holds the most content making survival for the future companies very difficult.
Supplier power is a measure of how easy it is for a company to raise prices. As far as supplier power
goes, Netflix has a good brand reputation, geographical coverage, and high quality product and service
with their customers than the competitors. In terms of substitute products, Netflix has a high quality
product that was developed as a result of high level technology compared to the competition. Strong
substitute products that exist in the market will increase the likelihood that customers would switch to
alternatives if prices rise. The impact of substitutes will reduce the power of suppliers and the market
attractiveness.
Among all else, Netflix continues to be a force to be reckoned with in the online streaming industry
compared to its competitors. Netflix s

Student Financial Aid For Students
Staring from the 1940s, Student financial aid began to play a significant role in prompting student
access, persistence and completion rate of American Higher Education. Since students can be regarded
as the output of the education, student financial aid also contributes to the social mobility and the
improvement of economics. Federal government, state governments and institutions jointly provide
the funding to certain groups of students. Among all types of financial aid, need based aid and merit
based aid are most important financial aid for students. Higher Education Act of 1965 is a milestone of
the development of need based aid. The Law was intended to strengthen the educational resources of
our colleges and universities and to provide financial assistance for students in postsecondary and
higher education. Specifically, the Pell Grant is the foundation of the federal financial aid system.
While the social turbulence of the 1960s may have been the impetus behind the Pell program, the
groundwork for broad based aid programs is more appropriately attributed to the GI Bill. After 1965,
the Higher Education Act of 1965 was reauthorized several times to achieve the goals. Need based aid
is essential for college access and success. According to Turner s research (2013), every $1000
decrease of tuition price will lead to 4% of increase in college attendance. Evidence suggests that
reducing college costs can increase college entry and persistence (Dynarski Clayton,

In The Description Of The Hack Machine Language In Chapter 4
Q1. In the description of the Hack machine language in chapter 4, it is stated that in well written
programs a C instruction that may cause a jump should not contain a reference to M, and vice versa.
Discuss why this should be avoided.
In order to access the value of M in a C instruction, the A register is used to contain a pointer / address
of the location of the value of M, in memory (RAM). In a jump instruction, the A register is used to
contain the pointer / address of the next C instruction in the instruction ROM, should the jump be
triggered (Nisan Schocken, 2005, p. 69)
@10 Set A equal to 10.

This interrupt takes the form of a memory address of code needed to handle the interrupt (in this case
print a file). Alternatively a simple pulse can be sent over the signal line. This results in additional
processing for the CPU prior to step 4 to pole the devices and find the one responsible. In this case the
device id becomes a pointer to an array containing the address of the event handler for that device
(Zaks,1980, p. 506).
3. When the CPU receives the interrupt it suspends processing and saves off all data and registers
associated with it s current processing tasks.
4. The CPU then loads the first line of the event handling code and sends the required data to print
following the event code instructions.
5. When the processing is complete the CPU reloads the previously suspended program s
registers/commands/data, and processing continues from where it left off.
This is a basic view of standard interrupt handling. Additional or alternative solutions continue to be
developed and added across many different platforms. Here are some additional approaches.
Concurrent Events: Since it takes time to process an event, other events may stack up. In this case a
software stack using push and pop is often used to track events. Alternatively where few events are
expected and speed is of essence a hardware stacks using registers could be used to accomplish the
same task.
Event Priorities: Some systems might

Mother and Daughter Relationship Exposed in Joyce Carol...
Mother and Daughter Relationship Exposed in Joyce Carol Oates Short Story, Shopping
The relationship between a mother and a daughter is one of complications, heartaches, and sweet
rewards. This is no exception between Nola and Mrs. Dietrich, characters in Shopping by Joyce Carol
Oates. The tribulations of their relationship are shown during their annual shopping trip. In the time
spent together, Nola is obviously trying to break free from her mother and become her own woman.
This coming of age path is expressed by her private thoughts and answers in monosyllables (Oates
834). As Nola desperately tries to acquire her own self, her Mrs. Dietrich desperately tries to hang
onto the child in Nola. She tries to stay in her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her desire to make Nola happy shows that she is trying, but inside thoughts show that she does not
like the way Nola dresses, or the clothes she picks out, or the restaurant they eat at. Her emotional
attachment and need for her daughter overpowers her knowledge that it is time for Nola to grow up.
She would prefer for Nola to remain young. Despite her mother s desire, Nola is growing up and
becoming her own person.
Nola has embraced the beginning of adulthood and handles it very well. She tries to be an individual
by picking out clothes that are funky and fashionable (Oates 836). She makes an astute and mature
recognition be expressing the fact that she is not worried about the disheveled woman [ s] affect on the
people but the effect the people will have on the women (Oates 836). She also defiantly smokes a
cigarette in front of her mother. The rebellion is trying to show that she is old enough to not have to
follow her mother s rules or that she even cares what her mother thinks. However, she has not reached
full maturation because she is unable to recognize that her mother only wants to be a part of her life.
Her mother has needs too. Her mother only wants to be loved, but Nola is constantly pushing her
mother away.
In a store, Mrs. Dietrich watches her [Nola] covertly, and once Nola notices that she is being watched,
she walks away angrily (Oates 836). She does not see that Mrs. Dietrich may only

Research Paper On Should Animals Be Kept In Zoos
Should Animals be kept in zoos? Have you ever been to a zoo? If you have then you may or may not
noticed how badly the animals are treated. Many zoos around the world are mistreating animals and
the public has no idea about it. Zoos are very unfair to animals. Would you want to be stuck in a small
area for your whole life when you could be roaming free in the wild somewhere? Probably not. Well,
that is what happens to most animals in a zoo. It is completely unfair! Animals do not deserve to be in
such small areas. It can cause serious cases of stress and depression. They teach the public that it is
okay to cage wild animals, which is definitely not true. No animal should be caged up. Therefore, zoos
should not be allowed. Many of animals in zoos suffer from stress and boredom. The zoo staff
separates animals families which can stress them out. Most zoos do not ever put the animals back in
the wild. They keep the animals in small captivities or cages for the rest of their days. Elephants kept
in zoos do not live as long as ones in the wild. This is due to stress and ... Show more content on

Zoos teach young kids as well as adults that it is okay to cage animals and that is not true at all. If
people wanted to learn about wild animals and their habits, they could go on a wildlife trip where
animals are in their natural habitat. Some people believe that people who work at zoos are true animal
lovers and want the best for the animals. This is not true at all. Many zookeepers are just people
wanting a good job. Many of the animal abuse cases in zoos are from the workers not the visitors.
Many animals in zoos are provided with little to no care. If they are sick, they will just kill the animal
instead of paying to get it cared for. How is this ok? These animals could be out enjoying their life in
the wild but instead they are in zoos living a short life while in a

  • 2. The Effects Of Arsenic On Drinking Water Essay Analysis of Arsenic in Drinking Water Analysis: Trends Arsenic is well known for its dangerous toxic features it brings to humans and the environment. But, it was not until the late 1980 s did scientists and public health officials realized that even at low doses of ingestion, arsenic is very dangerous and can cause serious health effects (Bolt, 2013). Till this day arsenic continues to be a huge public health issue, not only in parts of the United States but in developing countries worldwide (Bolt, 2013). The main trend that researchers have been focusing on is the amount of arsenic that is contaminating drinking water. Arsenic has been known to be a health issue in water for many years, but it was not until the 1980 s and later that the government and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) started to really crack down on monitoring it (Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry [ATSDR] , 2010). Before 2001 the legal amount of arsenic that was allowed in drinking water was 50 parts per billion (ppb), but since then public health officials and the government realized that this amount of arsenic in the water was making people sick (ATSDR, 2010). So on January 22, 2001, the EPA adopted a new standard of 10 ppb of arsenic is drinking water (ATSDR, 2010). This level has been tested to be the safest allowable amount of arsenic in drinking water to be ingested by humans. To this day parts of the world and about 2% of the United States are still having issues with keeping the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Analysis Of Tom Jones And Moll Flanders Essay The novels Tom Jones and Moll Flanders share a commonality, and showcase it in very similar ways. That commonality is the pursuit of wealth, but at the same time it is also a discrepancy, which is shown through how the story s title characters set out to obtain it, and their views regarding it. Before we can divulge what our characters view wealth as, we must grasp an understanding of the term itself. Merriam Webster s dictionary defines wealth as the value of all the property, possessions, and money that someone or something has. (Merriam Webster) Wealth can also be perceived in a spiritual sense, were one is content with their life and often has a strong relationship with God. For our purposes here, I think it is safe to assume that our authors mean to use wealth in its physical sense of possessions and dollar signs rather than enlightenment in their novels. Through this work we will examine with evidence why love and money is equitable in these two novels. We will also show why our protagonists are complete opposites of one another when talking about their wealth. We will first examine our novels characters and their pursuit of monetary gain, starting with Moll Flanders and it s protagonist of the same pseudonym. From the onset of the novel Moll is always lusting after the carefree lifestyle. As a young girl Moll refuses to work when she is living with her family. At last one of them ask d me what a Gentlewoman was? that puzzel d me much, but however I explain d ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Surgeon s List Operating the theatre is very costly so it is vital to manage the surgeon s list efficiently; moreover, it should ensure safety and quality in care (Rymaruk, Buch 2015). The surgeon s list comprises of the cases that has to be performed through the day. It is the foundation of the proper functioning of the operating room (Gore 2016). This essay will discuss the issues relating to the list management which includes the scheduling of the list, skill mix and staffing, resource management and challenges. Poor management, from any previously mentioned issues, leads to delays that impact the patient s health, and increase the workload for staff (Higgins et al. 2011). It can also contribute to the increase in hospital budget with operational theatre ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Initially the upper lobectomy patient who required an ICU bed was first on the list. However due to the latex patient it was rescheduled to be the second procedure, but because of the lack of strycker stack system, all the VAT had to be brought forward resulting in upper lobectomy being booked as the fourth case. Regardless of its delay, the ICU bed would still not be available if the surgery was to be performed fourth, thus the bronchoscopy surgery was conducted prior to the upper lobectomy procedure, in order to preserve time. If this case was done before, then the patient would have had to be kept in the theatre, thus impeding on the time available to perform the following surgeries. Hence, by rescheduling the list to allow the upper lobectomy case to be conducted fifth, it allowed the smoother flow of surgeries while exhibiting a more efficient time management. As time consumption was also reduced, it decreased the cost as it increased the amount of patients treated with the same resource (Officer of the Auditor General (OAG) 2015). However, despite the time management, the theatre went overtime. An element that contributed to the overrunning of the theatre is due to the VAT surgeries being performed by a training surgeon under the supervision of a consultant. The hospital facilities the training of junior surgeons. Junior surgeons are more time consuming due to their inexperience and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Fibrous Capsule Essay Doctors may use the terms cancer, malignancy, lump, neoplasm, growth and tumour interchangeably. The tumour is often multifocal i.e. there are several tumour nodules present within the liver. We do not know if this is because it starts off as one tumour that then spreads within the liver via blood vessels, or if several separate tumours start to grow at the same time. Once the tumour cells get into the blood circulation, HCC can spread to the lungs, bones and nearly any other part of the body. Tumour cells can also travel along the lymph vessels to the lymph glands (also called lymph nodes) at the base of the liver. Most expansive HCC lesions have a well developed fibrous capsule. The fibrous capsule is demonstrated by CT as a hypoattenuating rim, and enhances in the delayed phase. The different components may show various attenuation indexes on CT images, particularly if areas of well differentiated tumor with different degrees of fatty metamorphosis are present. Internal septa show delayed enhancement, similar to that of the fibrous capsule. HCC has a typical tendency to produce small or minute satellite nodules ( daughter lesions), frequently located in the vicinity of the main tumor. These nodules, representing intrahepatic metastases usually developed via the portal vein branches, show the same CT appearance of the main tumor. In the case of multicentric development, multiple small tumors may exhibit a different enhancement pattern on CT, reflecting different degrees of tumor ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Importance Of Characterization In Troilus And Cressida From how people structure their speeches to how they use words, the audience can understand a lot about their traits and personalities. This is used by many authors in literature, and it is called characterization. Characterization is the method in which the author reveals the attributes of characters. In the play, Troilus and Cressida, Shakespeare uses speeches by two Greek leaders to further their characterizations. This story takes place during the Trojan War, in which the Greeks fought the Trojans over the theft of Menelaus wife, Helen. While the main story of the play revolves around the two lovers, Troilus and Cressida, Shakespeare incorporates many aspects of the war as well. In Act I Scene III, Agamemnon, the general of the Greek army, encourages the Greek army by motivating them to persevere through the long lasting war. He believes that the Gods are trying to test them, and Troy will eventually crumble if they show constancy. On the other hand, Ulysses, one of the Greek leaders, responds to Agamemnon with another speech emphasizing that the reason for the failures of their camp is the absence of hierarchy. This exchange exhibits Agamemnon s imperfect character and Ulysses intelligence through their rhetoric, which also relates to their roles in the Greek army. Throughout his speech, Agamemnon is unnecessarily verbose in sharing his predictable point, and the repetitive structure of his speech displays incompetence in leadership. At the start of his address, he poses a rhetorical question, What grief hath set the jaundice on your cheeks? (1.3.2), asking his soldiers about why they look so downhearted. He replies to this by stating that all people have their checks and disasters, (1.3.5), referring to obstacles and setbacks, and that they should continue to be persistent. He uses the imagery of a knot that diverts the course of growth and how the growth of the Greek army will be prevented with the lack of determination. As the speech continues, he presents another rhetorical question: Why then, you princes,/Do you with cheeks abashed behold our works/And call them shames, (3.1.17 19) which was essentially the identical as the opening question. It also has the same word choice of cheeks, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Literary Analysis Of Superman John Ondrasik s Superman, expresses the message of society expecting perfection and putting people on too high of a pedestal. Using Superman as a symbol, Ondrasik unveils the hardship of living up to the expectations of society. Due to his unique abilities and powers, society expects nothings less than perfection from Superman. Having lost his family and home planet It is not easy to be [Superman]. Superman has to fight everything that society tells him to so that he can be himself. He is put on a high pedestal in society and is expected to perform in tough situations. Many people in the world look up to Superman due to his special powers. Society assumes Superman s life is easy and perfect since he has these powers which make a mockery of mere mortals but it is not. Superman wishes people did not think so much of him and tries hard to please everyone. Frustration builds up and Superman feels like killing himself (hence the kryptonite). Superman simply cannot make a mistake since he is always expected to succeed. Similarly, many people in our society are put on high pedestals. Even students like ourselves, are expected to receive straight A s and never score inadequate on a test. Eventually, when these students receive a mediocre grade, they are ashamed of themselves. These students are frightened to inform their parents since their expectations are so high. Athletes are also put under tremendous pressure to perform in big games. Failing is simply not an option. If one fails to succeed, the loss will follow them around for the rest of their lives. A stamp of failure will revolve around their name. Similarly, Superman feels like he is put on a high pedestal. Society does not let Superman cry or dream since he is not a normal person. He is not expected to cry or dream . His duty is to protect Earth from deleterious villains and he does not have a choice to say no. Society needs to be less naive and understand that reaching perfection is not possibly. Men are required to repress their emotions and expected to live up to a ridiculous idea of what it is to be a man . Using Superman as a symbol is a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On my side, the present garments will represent the luxury of pre stitched clothing. The standardization of clothing sizes served as a step towards an overall growth in convenience for consumers. Preceding the Civil War, ready to wear clothing stores were few and far between, and selection limited itself to only a few sizes. This is in stark contrast to the options present at big chain stores today. This is attributed to the fact that the majority of clothing was either tailored by dressmakers or at home, which either demanded a premium or proved to be a bother. The Civil War was a ... The Futility Of Dreaming By John Steinbeck Sydney Pamela Larter Mr. Sweeney English ENG1D: Block 7 February 5, 2015 The Futility of Dreaming As the late Osho believed, And desires are never here and now they are non existential. They are just mental, in the mind. And they cannot be fulfilled because their very nature is to move into the future. John Steinbeck s novella, Of Mice and Men explores this theme of futile desire through various relationships and character complexes. This fictional story begins by introducing two men with a relationship built from the very foundations of love. As the novel progresses, we begin questioning innate truths. Steinbeck uses his literary prowess to entwine us within a story of loneliness, loss and morality. The characters hopes and dreams, regardless of outcome, are a mechanism of survival and a desire to lead something other than an otherwise inconsequential existence. Steinbeck presents dreams as a tool to aid the men of the ranch s contentment. They give a sense of purpose, a reward for long days of hard labor on the ranch. The idea of dreams prolonging survival and happiness is best portrayed by the dream and relationship shared by Lennie and George. Their mutual dream to live offa the fatta the lan (Steinbeck 57) brings to light their need of other s companionship to alleviate isolation and loneliness, and to make their dream seem more realistic. Women s Subjectivity in Arabian Nights by Judith Grossman Judith Grossman wrote an article concerning women s subjectivity in Arabian Nights. The article brought out many points to which I had never given thought. As I read the novel, I saw that women were considered evil and bad, but I didn t think much more of it. After reading Grossman s article I must say I agree with many of the thoughts expressed. She focuses on the fact that women are considered to be evil, but it is just because their true self has never had a chance to be free. Women are locked into this reciprocal cycle of deceit and unfaithfulness, only after being oppressed by their husbands or keepers, as in the case of the Jinnee and the maiden. Grossman s article ... The maiden says, But I have lain under as many men as I ve desired, and this wretched jinnee doesn t realize that destiny cannot be averted or hindered by anything and that whatever a woman wants, she will get, no matter how much a man might try to prevent it.(11) It is easy to see that she is rebelling in her own way against the rules set forth by the jinnee and all of mankind. She has a deep hatred towards men, and she makes herself feel better by dominating strange men and threatening them with the loss of their lives. Although she cannot actually kill them her captor the jinnee, will without a second thought. Though she is dominated by the jinnee, she has a power over the men she finds. This evens out the balance of power a little between the jinnee and the maiden. Women are made out to be awful, horrible creatures from which men should take cover. In Arabian Nights there are many passages in which women are negatively portrayed. For example, This only proves that all women will make cuckolds out of their husbands when given the chance...No man in this world is safe from the malice of women! Leaders use empowerment to improve employee reliance and commitment to the company, by providing them with the ability to make decisions when it is needed. By granting them this authority, the employee would be given control of a portion of the business which would provide an incentive to work harder for the company with the chance for more authority and responsibility in the future. In this paper, we shall provide a brief history of a major reference to empowerment leadership styles, ways to empower employees, and the effect of employee empowerment in a company. The history of leadership empowerment can be dated back to the early Greeks. This can be seen from Homer s Odyssey which was used to teach the people of ancient Greece to recognize good leadership when it presented itself and how to identify crucial elements of good leadership such as respect and reciprocity. This story would go on to help shape the idea of leadership and empowerment by detailing the story of Odysseus a soldier who goes to war and his journey home. Entrepreneurship is the process of designing, launching and running a new business while social entrepreneurs launch the business and implement solutions to social, cultural, or environmental issues simultaneously. Bill Drayton once said, There is nothing more powerful than a new idea in the hands of a social entrepreneur. In the world, there are billions of people have no access to education, healthcare, clean drinking water, food and even the basic human rights and respect. Violence, poverty and more global issues are at the alarm rate nowadays. These matters have to be tackled immediately before it is too late to do so. In our opinion, social entrepreneurship is the best way to help the needy and overcome the problem. New ideas, opportunities and technologies are sought in solving long standing social problems. There is a good example to indicate our words, social entrepreneur in South America, Steve Katsaros. Can you imagine what was life like when oil lamps and candles were all we had to light our cities with? Indoors was just as treacherous as outdoors. Katsaros invented a solar powered light bulb that provide isolated villages with power, thus bypassing the need to bring a power infrastructure out to remote areas. It has brought a great change in their daily lives which allow people to work, study and play at night without the use of kerosene lamps, which may pollute the environment and arise the respiratory diseases such as asthma. Consequently, Katsaros was able to bring convenience to the people while he can also stay in his business by selling the bulbs to the people. (The Guardian, 2009) To cite the saying that social entrepreneurship is the best way to help people in need, we would like to provide an outstanding example of social enterprise which is Grameen Bank. Grameen Bank was officially founded in 1983 by Muhammad Yunus and it provides small loans, rather than charity, to the poorest of the poor especially women in Bangladesh. Listening to this class s guest speakers illuminated me to the depth of the BDSM community that I had previously been blind to. While I had known some about BDSM from simply a fetish/paraphilia/technical standpoint, I wasn t aware that it also denoted such a rich community. I suppose that I could have expected that BDSM would have it s own community, but, since it is outside of my realm of sexuality, I was simplistic in the way that I understood BDSM as only a fetish. My simplistic thinking is made worse when I consider the fact that one of my closest friends was a professional submissive for a few years prior to coming to Reno, but I never asked many questions because I felt that it would be too personal or would show potential holes in my knowledge. This is why I am so glad that we had guest speakers for this topic in class. When I was reading this chapter in the Lehmiller book, I found it to be informative on a baseline knowledge level, but it definitely lost a lot of the depth and complexity of the fetishes and paraphilia themselves, and particularly the people that practice these aspects of sexuality. In 1911, over 300,000 people lived in Dublin. The unemployment rates were high and the average labourers wage was around one pound a week, and that was only if they had a full week of work. Though degrading, I believe encouraging. Coubertin s words were also influential to the world of sport, impacting the lives of many women, and possibly causing a setback to women s rights. A rights based understanding of sport and physical activity has been present since the founding of the United Nations. In 1948, The Universal Declaration of Human Rights set out a framework of rights and duties recognized that Education shall be directed to the full development of the human personality (article 26). • 38. The Theory Of Evolution In Aimee Bender s The Rememberer The theory of evolution is a pivotal idea that influences the way that all species are seen, including humans. The theory of evolution was established by Charles Darwin, and it presents the idea that species adapt to fit new environments and changes can occur over time. If evolution allows organisms to adjust over time to adapt to their environment, couldn t the opposite situation occur? The idea of devolution is covered by Aimee Bender in her engaging story The Rememberer . Bender relates her story to the idea of devolution by using her lover Ben to constantly devolve into different animals throughout the story. The story begins with Ben being a human and immediately he devolves to different animals. She reveals how the relationship was with Ben when he was human , and how it evolved to the tragedy that it became. The more Ben devolves the weaker their relationship becomes, until Ben completely disappears. Bender uses symbolism and the idea of devolution to illustrate the physical and mental deterioration of a loved one, and as an outlet to ease her grief. The use of symbolism is visible throughout the entire story. Bender uses different animals as stages to her physical and mental deterioration. Bender is happy and contempt when her lover is human however when her relationship takes a turn for the worse, she begins depicting Ben as different animals devolving to a meaningless being. Bender has a tornado of emotions towards Ben but it is evident that she truly loves him. When their relationship weakens Bender becomes dismal and heartbroken, and in order to deal with her sorrow she uses symbolism to depict her lover devolving with their relationship. It is clear when she is describing Ben, she begins with an ape, to monkey, to turtle, and finally a salamander. She devolves Ben to an animal based on his significance in their relationship. The symbolism is present from the beginning but gains significance when she states, When I go to the kitchen, I peer in the pan and see he s some kind of salamander now. He s small (Bender 2). When Ben becomes the salamander he is practically gone from the relationship, and is when her mental and physical deterioration is at its peak. The symbolism also plays a separate ... • 39. God s Rescue Operation By Wright Essay God s Rescue Operation Wright, in his book Simply Christian: Why Christianity Exists, argues that God has no intention of abandoning this world , instead God has a glorious rescue operation planned, raising all His people to new bodily life to live in it . (Wright 58) God has begun this magnificent rescue operation utilizing Israel, the Church, and Jesus to complete his plan. Through these three, Wright believes that God intends for the kingdom of the world to become kingdom of God in which the beauty of this world will be enfolded in the beauty of God , only completing his rescue operation when the present world is rescued, healed, restored, and completed. (Wright 78) Israel, a nation with a history of insurgence, turmoil, and agony, is the start of God s rescue operation. Israel, in the Bible, serves as a representation of the entirety of all of God s children. The story of Israel itself has several common themes of going away and coming back home; of slavery and exodus; of exile and restoration and these themes relate directly to Christianity s own themes. (Wright 75) These leitmotifs are nothing new or desolate for the Jewish people. Israel is consistently in the news, going through trials or being restored from them. More recent examples of these would be the Holocaust, the restoration of the nation of Israel to their promised land, and the current issues between the Muslims and Jews in Jerusalem regarding the ownership of the Temple Mount. At the beginning of the episode when people are warned that there will be a hurricane, everyone turns on each other by stealing, fighting and breaking things, for their own personal wealth, not worrying about anyone else, the creators of the show purposefully exaggerate, this is in reference to what would happen in anarchy, or post apocalyptic events, movies such as, The Purge, Mad Max 2 and I am Legend cover this topic in more depth. Later in the episode, Ned Flanders asks, why did the hurricane destroy only my house, I donate to 8 different churches and follow everything the bible says. This is making fun of how much he heavily relies on the several churches to bring him security and wealth, this pokes fun at the people in society think that giving to a church or several different churches will grant them safety or wealth. Another satirical moment was in Ned Flanders flashback to when he was young, when his parents couldn t control him, because they didn t believe in rules, they went to a doctor and told him, we ve tried nothing and we re all out of ideas. The creators of the show are making fun of the parents that don t discipline their kids. • 43. A Critical Review Of Deborah Ryan s Argument However, it is essential to point out that Deborah Ryan argued that to see pageants as anti modern is an oversimplification. For example, Ryan deemed, by drawing on the argument presented by Bill Schwarz, that the inventiveness of tradition may have required a popular projection of modernity and of the future to sustain the idea of the past. This suggests that although Parkerian pageants can be argued to be historical in the sense that it focuses on historical accuracy, Ryan s argument does not undermine the importance of history. This is particularly because she suggests that pageants still focused on the historic past in order to understand the present. Therefore, in Ryan s words pageants can be seen as part of the modern mass culture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This demonstrates that history was consumed in historical pageantry, to a certain extent. For instance, Frank Lascelles explored the process of remembering in his 1907 Oxford historical pageant, which was staged on the banks of the River Cherwell and comprised 15 scenes covering 1,000 years of history of Oxford from St Frideswide. Lascelles brought a distinctive use of visual spectacle in his pageant as many of the scenes consisted of spectacular tableaux with no words. This is particularly because Lascelles believed that pageants should be concerned with the dramatic movement of masses of people in processions and dance, often in blocks of colour, rather than with spoken dialogue which is often tedious in the open air. While this was different from Parker s representation of pageants of portraying history based upon how things really were and as they really happened , Ryan argued this technique was particularly effective for conveying the act of remembering as a dialogue between the past and the present . Therefore, it can be argued that history was just one more technology of memory, one of a set of techniques developed in order that societies might remember. Although, this suggests that as Lascelles pageants visualised the past via allegory in order to remember, one can argue that it placed emphasis ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Student Financial Aid For Students Staring from the 1940s, Student financial aid began to play a significant role in prompting student access, persistence and completion rate of American Higher Education. Since students can be regarded as the output of the education, student financial aid also contributes to the social mobility and the improvement of economics. Federal government, state governments and institutions jointly provide the funding to certain groups of students. Among all types of financial aid, need based aid and merit based aid are most important financial aid for students. Higher Education Act of 1965 is a milestone of the development of need based aid. The Law was intended to strengthen the educational resources of our colleges and universities and to provide financial assistance for students in postsecondary and higher education. Specifically, the Pell Grant is the foundation of the federal financial aid system. While the social turbulence of the 1960s may have been the impetus behind the Pell program, the groundwork for broad based aid programs is more appropriately attributed to the GI Bill. After 1965, the Higher Education Act of 1965 was reauthorized several times to achieve the goals. Need based aid is essential for college access and success. This interrupt takes the form of a memory address of code needed to handle the interrupt (in this case print a file). Alternatively a simple pulse can be sent over the signal line. This results in additional processing for the CPU prior to step 4 to pole the devices and find the one responsible. In this case the device id becomes a pointer to an array containing the address of the event handler for that device (Zaks,1980, p. 506). 3. When the CPU receives the interrupt it suspends processing and saves off all data and registers associated with it s current processing tasks. 4. The CPU then loads the first line of the event handling code and sends the required data to print following the event code instructions. 5. When the processing is complete the CPU reloads the previously suspended program s registers/commands/data, and processing continues from where it left off. This is a basic view of standard interrupt handling. Additional or alternative solutions continue to be developed and added across many different platforms. Here are some additional approaches. Concurrent Events: Since it takes time to process an event, other events may stack up. In this case a software stack using push and pop is often used to track events. Alternatively where few events are expected and speed is of essence a hardware stacks using registers could be used to accomplish the same task. Event Priorities: Some systems might ...
