Educating consumers through social mediaBrian Hess
In this presentation I explain a few social media platforms and how people can use these tools to educate consumers. This presentation is the result of my undergraduate research at Virginia Tech and was presented at the American Council on Consumer Interest conference in April of 2014.
This home received a LEED Platinum rating and Hers score of 38 due to its variety of sustainable materials and energy efficient features. The eco-friendly home utilizes recycled materials like reclaimed Pine Beetle Kill Wood, metal from an old airport fence, and recycled concrete from airport runways. Its modern exterior with cultured limestone, black brick, and varying siding creates a fresh new aesthetic while paying homage to the site's history as an airport through elements like its winged porch alluding to an airplane wing.
Social media allows people to craft virtual personas that differ from their real selves. Many users digitally alter photos or misrepresent biographical details to curate idealized online images. While some use this as a confidence boost, others engage in harmful behaviors like cyberbullying. Overall, social media emphasizes virtual connections over real-world relationships, so users should strive for a balance between their online and offline identities.
British Medical Journal study on Oral ContraceptivesHarvey Diaz
This study analyzed mortality data from over 46,000 women in the Royal College of General Practitioners' Oral Contraception Study, which began in 1968. The study found that ever users of oral contraceptives had a 12% lower risk of death from any cause compared to never users. Ever users also had lower risks of death from cancers, circulatory diseases, and other specific causes. No clear association was found between duration of oral contraceptive use and overall mortality risk, though some disease-specific relationships were seen.
This document outlines numerous proposed steps to reduce road accidents worldwide. It notes that over 1.2 million people are killed in road accidents each year, costing 2-3% of global GDP. Some key proposals include stricter enforcement of speed limits, heavier penalties for speeding and reckless driving, mandatory speed controllers on vehicles, improved driver training, increased road safety education, and improved road infrastructure like signs, markings, and rumble strips. The overall aim is to curb dangerous driving behaviors and create safer road conditions through coordinated policy changes and public awareness campaigns.
Social media usage continues to grow rapidly worldwide. A recent report found that over 2 billion people now use social media, with Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and WeChat the top five platforms. Time spent on social networks has also increased significantly, with the average user now spending nearly 2 hours per day engaged on social platforms.

The Internet has grown rapidly over the past decade and changed global communication through new media like social networks. It has impacted newspapers by decreasing their size and numbers worldwide as people get news online. Libraries have transitioned to virtual environments through digitization of resources, allowing global access but also requiring new strategies for organizing information. While educational technology can expand children's knowledge, it also risks internet addiction negatively impacting teenagers' social skills if overused as a replacement for personal interactions.
This document discusses the positive and negative influences of the internet. Positively, it provides access to vast information, facilitates communication, and supports online education. However, it can also expose users to unethical content and be misused if not properly supervised. While the internet has benefits, parents and teachers must guide students on appropriate usage to minimize risks. Overall, the internet's positive impacts outweigh its negatives when used cautiously.
A level is an instrument used to determine differences in elevation between points. It consists of a telescope to provide a horizontal line of sight and a level tube to ensure the line of sight is level. Readings from a staff held at points allow the elevation of points to be calculated relative to a known benchmark. Leveling loops are closed to check for errors by comparing the sum of backsight and foresight readings to the expected elevation difference between start and end points.
Web browsers act as an interface between users and web servers by allowing users to locate and display web pages. Surveying is used at various stages of a construction project from conceptual planning to maintenance. It involves measuring positions and elevations to determine spatial relationships and enable engineering design and construction. Common surveying methods include chain, compass, theodolite, plane table, tachometric, aerial photographic, and remote sensing surveys. Levelling specifically refers to determining relative elevations and is important for engineering works like establishing rail and road alignments and profiles. Key levelling instruments are dumpy level, tilting level, automatic level, and digital level.
This document discusses several ways that smartphones and social media negatively impact society. It notes that smartphones can break up families by replacing intimate interactions with texting. Social media addiction is described as ignoring responsibilities for online activities. The dangers of texting while driving, like increased accident risks, are covered. Smartphones are seen as disruptive in schools when they ring in class or distract students from work. Cyberbullying and cheating using phones in schools is also addressed. The productivity losses to businesses from employee social media use at work are estimated at $2.25 billion annually. Finally, the rise of online sexual predators targeting children on social media is examined.

EnerWe Communication Conference - Death of a B2B SalesmanErik Eskedal
Endringene i kundenes kjøpsprosess gjør at selskaper må tenke annerledes.
