A Brief Summary On Iwo Jima
After several weeks of bombing and air raids, the U.S. was ready to send troops to the island.
Navy gunboats fired into the island rapidly to finish softening it up. Thousands of men were sent
at once in over 500 landing craft in 10 waves. They had no idea about what they were to face.
They approached the 3,000 yards beach nearly untouched, but suddenly a shower of shells,
mortars, and bullets flew by them while taking hundreds of lives. Chaos struck and the Marines
were anxious to get to shore and dig their foxholes. They arrived at the beaches in 7 different
landing zones. On the first day, 30,000 men arrived at the beach with over 40,000 more men to
follow. Their goal for day 1, to take Airfield #1. Confusion lurked among the men as they... Show

Japanese decided they would hide and come back later. Things on the island calmed down, and
after an hour or two the Japanese would begin firing into groups with lots of surprise. They
camped out near airfield 1, waiting forthe time to move onto airfield 2. On the other end of the

Objectivism and The Fountainhead Essay
Objectivism and The Fountainhead
How should we live our lives? Do you live for others or for yourself? What do you deem to be
the ideal: selflessness, or selfishness? Why? Ayn Rand s novel The Fountainhead addresses these
issues and her philosophy behind it called Objectivism. Her rebellious rhetoric is to convince us
that the only true virtue is selfishness and that we should abide by its standards and live for
ourselves.
Ayn Rand was from the Soviet Union, and her background helps us to understand her rhetoric about
why she preached her philosophy. Born in Russia, and a hater of the revolution, Ayn Randdreamed
of America as an Eden of individualism. When she got there becoming first a Cecil B de Mille

The Objectivist states that this is the only world we can know. It is irrelevant if there is a
heaven, or a hell, or life elsewhere. We know what we do through our senses and reason. What we
perceive with our senses we know to be real (Garmong). Existence exists and the act of grasping
that statement implies two corollary axioms: that something exists which one perceive and that one
exists possessing consciousness, consciousness being the faculty of perceiving that which exists
(Rand qtd. by Peikoff 1)
The second point addresses the idea that thinking is the path to knowledge. The Objectivist rejects
the idea, stated by Plato, that all we know is that we know nothing. Emotions, feelings, and
premonitions are not concrete and therefore are rejected as sources of knowledge. Concrete
evidence dictates certainty thus rationalizing knowledge (Garmong). The third point is the ethics of
Objectivism: rational selfishness and the pursuit of our own happiness. We are the beneficiaries of
our own actions, and we shouldn t let others dictate our lives (Garmong). Thought requires
selfishness, the fundamental selfishness of a rational faculty that places nothing above the integrity
of its own function. A man cannot think if he places something anything above his perception of
reality (Rand qtd. by Peikoff 5). Politically and

Personal Exercise Analysis
Overall, my evaluation has revealed that my physical and nutritional health are both very good.
For example, most of my nutrient averages for the two days I tracked were okay, right on target. As
well as that, my physical health was very good; I had exercised 60 minutes most days and my
exercises exercised different parts of my body well. However, I could improve in some aspects of
my health, including my saturated fat levels. Although I could improve in some ways, I have
excellent health habits. As for my physical activity and health, I exerciseimmensely well. Every
week day of this week, I have both ran and biked. For running, I ran around 2 miles on a treadmill,

In particular, I tend to do an extremely good job of eating foods that have lots of important
essential vitamins. These include vitamins A, B6, B12, C, and vitamin K. As well as essential
vitamins, I did a good job eating protein. This is true because my percentage of daily intake was
straight in the middle of the recommended range for the daily intake of protein. Also, my total
amount of fat was in the middle of the recommended range. This is immensely good, as eating
too large amounts of very fatty food could cause a person to gain lots of weight which can be
dangerous towards his or hers health and well being. Finally, I did an amazing job not eating foods
with a too extreme amount of cholesterol. The recommended amount was to eat foods with a
collective amount being less than 300 milligrams, and I ate an average amount of 122 milligrams,
178 milligrams less than the recommended 300. In my opinion, that is very positive. However, I

from 1932 1934, it had caused around six million deaths. Conquest claims when it came to the

The Way Wordsworth and Heaney Present Nature and Rural Life in Their Poetry
Born 1770, in Cockermouth, William Wordsworth spent his early life and many of his formative
years attending a boys school in Hawkshead, a village in the Lake District. As can be seen in his
poetry, the years he spent living in these rural surroundings provided many of the valuable
experiences Wordsworth had as he grew up.
At the age of 17, Wordsworth moved south to study at Saint John s College, University of
Cambridge. Later, in 1790, two years after the French Revolution had begun; he took a walking tour
through France and Switzerland on vacation. France obviously captivated Wordsworth s attention,
because a year ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within his poetry, Wordsworth contemplates the relationship between nature and human life. He
considers his pantheistic beliefs, while realising that nature has many different facets and possesses
the power to have spiritual and emotional impacts on the human form.
Wordsworth achieves this in his poetry by presenting nature in many different ways. This is
shown clearly in the poem, Daffodils where we can see Wordsworth exploring nature as a source
of wonderment; he responds and relates himself to the two underlying themes of memory and
imagination, on a spiritual level. Throughout the poem, it is clear that his focus was not to merely
describe, in the form of a detailed account, how he saw the daffodils and their surroundings, but to
consider the ways in which they affected how he felt that day and looking back when he reflects on
that experience. It has a wistful and nostalgic tone, with a strong feeling of sentiment.
The poem begins with a personal feeling of solitariness and despondency with the opening line, I
wandered lonely as a cloud that floats on high o er vales and hills. Wordsworth uses this simile to
compare himself to a cloud, which has many implications concerning how Wordsworth was feeling
that day. The word, lonely suggests that he felt isolated or simply free and

Mosque Project
Since pre Islamic times Mecca has always been known as a sacred site, however due to mass
construction and modernization, the sacredness of this holy city may be slowly dying. Mecca
contains the Holy Mosque and the Kaaba. The Kaaba is a tall, box like structure which stands in a
courtyard in the center of the Holy Mosque, and it became established as the main object of
pilgrimages to Mecca (Dictionary of Islamic Architecture). Mecca is the birth place of the prophet
Muhammad and contains a lot of important historical sites such as the site where Muhammad was
born, the house of the prophet s wife Khadijah and the house of Abu Bakr, as well as Muhammad
s grandson s house which was flattened by the King s palace. All of these ... Show more content on

I think that there are two sides. One being the Saudi Arabian government who operate under
Wahhabism, in which they think that it is good to demolish Islamic historical sites (such as the
birthplace of Muhammad, or the house he lived in) because they see it as encouraging sinful
idolatry. I get that they think that people may start worshiping those historical sites and lose
focus on the heart of Islam, but I don t think that is their only motive. I think that the Saudi
Arabian government sees a lot of other cities and countries modernizing and urbanizing
themselves and making advances in architecture and having a more modern way of life, and I
think they are afraid to get stuck. What I mean by that is they are afraid that because the holy
mosque is in Mecca, that there city will never make cultural advances but rather be stuck back in
the time of the prophet. It is easy to forget that Mecca is a city just like any other, which just
happens to house the holy mosque. While it is a mainly visited by Muslims doing the hajj, it is also
visited by Nonmuslims and has other attractions than the mosque and Kaaba and I think that the
Saudi Arabian government is trying to expand that aspect of Mecca. The other side of the
argument is that in destroying historical sites, and building skyscrapers around the mosque, it
takes away for the sacredness of the place as well as the spiritual aspect of the Hajj as a whole. I

Claude Debussy
Impressionism is a style of music that derived in the late 19th century thanks to French
composer Claude Debussy. It was almost analogous to the impressionist art at the time, which
was supposed to leave an impression on the audience, having meaning but never a clear one. The
use of color , or timbre in the case of music, was heavily used to create the atmosphere of the
pieces, achieved by orchestration and texture. This style was seen as a response to Romanticism,
getting rid of the forward direction of standard harmonic progression, resulting in an obscure
tonality and harmony. The father of this style, Claude Debussy, was born in Saint Germain en
Laye, France on August 22, 1862, and having died in Paris on March 25, 1918. Clair de Lune ...

Difference Between Systole And Divert Flow To The Heart
2.The heart rate is controlled by the PNS, SNS, and endocrine glands.
3.The difference between systole and diastole is the pulse pressure. Systole is the contraction
phase, while diastole is the relaxation phase. Systolic blood pressure is the highest pressure on the
wall of the arteries. And the diastolic blood pressure is the lowest pressure, corresponding to when
the ventricles are filled with blood during diastole.
4.For blood to flow, there must be a difference in pressure at both ends. Blood flows from an area
of high to low pressure. The pressure difference is also created by the resistance in the blood
vessels themselves. Blood flow is compared to the pressure difference and resistance. So, pressure
drives the flow. And vasoconstriction and vasodilation divert flow to the regions that need it the
most.

The distribution of blood flow in and around the body depends on its immediate need, compared
to that of other areas in the body. At rest, the liver and kidneys receive about 50% of CO, while
skeletal muscle tissues receive 15 20%. During exercise, muscles that are contracting receive 80%
of the cardiac output.
6.During exercise these 3 mechanisms are important for returning blood to the heart. It is important
to have valves in the veins to prevent backflow and leakage. A muscle pump and a respiratory pump.
7.The primary functions of the blood is to transport oxygen, CO2, nutrients and wastes. Blood aids

How Do Pesticides Cause Biochemical Changes In Fish
Pesticides cause biochemical changes in fish and influence their activities changes enzyme
activity in the exposure phase and recovery phase. This change is due to the induced
biotransformation to meet the increased energy demands under sustained and prolonged toxic
stress as an adaptive response. Changes in the levels of oxidative enzymes in the gill and muscle
tissues of the pesticide exposed fish suggested that it is due to the toxic effect of the combination
pesticide (Chlorpyrifos 50% + Cypermethrin 5% EC). Pyrethroid are metabolized and eliminated
significantly more slowly by fish than by mammals or birds (Bradbury Coats 1989). Oxidative
stress occurs when critical balance between oxidants and antioxidants is disrupted due to excessive

Glutathione helps to protect cells from reactive oxygen species. GSH checks free radical damage
and helps detoxification by conjugating with chemicals. Increase in reactive oxygen species
protection causes GSH depletion. GSH acts as cofactor for Glutathione Peroxidase (GPx) and
Glutathione S transferase (GST). Glutathione S transferase is thought to play a physiological role
in initiating the detoxification and these enzymes catalyse the reaction of such compounds with the
SH group of glutathione, thereby neutralizing their electrophilic sites and rendering the products
more water soluble. GPx is present throughout the tissues as four different isoenzymes, cellular,
extracellular glutathione peroxidase, as phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase and
gastrointestinal glutathione peroxidase (Alam et al 2013). GPx low activity is one of the early
consequences of a disturbance of the prooxidant or antioxidant balance due to toxic exposure.
Glutathione reductase plays an important role in maintaining a basic GSH pool, via catalysing the
reduction of glutathione disulfide (GSSG) to GSH in NADPH dependent reaction (Yao Chen et al

Intro to History
I pledge to follow the Honor Code by refraining from lying, stealing, or cheating. I pledge that I
have not and will not receive any unauthorized help on any assignment or assessment. The Bible
provides much information on ancient history and the ancient Hebrews, but we can not verify the
truth behind many of the passages from the Bible.. Few evidence has been found to support much
of what the Bible states as history, and many people doubt the actual cosmos of the Hebrew people,
meaning they doubt that Yahweh actually even existed. The combination of archaeological
evidence and Biblical stories allow for some confirmation of the truth, including the origins of
Abraham, the Hebrews journey into Canaan, the flaws in the Hebrews monotheism, the destruction
of Solomon s temple, the conquering of the Israelite kingdom, and the evidence of Israel s waning
power following the death of Solomon.
The origins of the Hebrews can be traced back to Abraham, who the Bible depicts as the
patriarch of Judaism. Yahweh promises to Abraham and his descendants the land of Canaan,
saying [t]o your offspring I will give this land (Gen. 12:7 8). Abraham lived around the year 4000
B.C.E., and the Bible claims he lived in Ur, an ancient city in southern Mesopotamia, on a former
branch of the Euphrates river. Archaeologists estimated the size of Ur to have been around 25
acres. The Bible described Abraham s journey from Ur to

We Need Additional Gun Control Laws to Ensure Public Safety
On April19, 1999, 7 year old Nafis Jefferson was shot and killed with a .44 caliber revolver, a

Children found the gun stashed under an abandoned car parked along the street. One of the
children, also a 7 year old boy, picked up the gun and fired it, hitting Nafis in the head. Nafis died

N.R.A s stance on the manufacturing, ownership and distribution of guns.
2. The fallacy of the Second Amendment.
3. The secondary and private sales market
4. The assault weapon s law.
The National Rifle Association (NRA) treats gun control as an individual issue and avoids
considering the problem as a collective safety measure. In 1986 N.R.A passed a legislation that
restricts the ATF (BUREAU OF ALCOHOL, TOBACCO FIREARMS) from inspecting the gun
dealers only once a year. It has consistently tried to hinder the funding of ATF and continues to
oppose all gun registration systems that might aid in the tracing of guns used in crime
(www.handguncontrol.org/facts). The sad fact is that the major usage of guns is for criminal
purposes. The NRA and manufacturers of guns suffer if lawscomplicate the purchase and
availability of guns.
A recent development concerning the second amendment is ATTORNEY GENERAL JOHN
ASHCROFT S STATEMENT in a May 17th letter to the N.R.A(www.handguncontrol.org/press)
endorsing the view that the second amendment guarantees the right of an individual ownership for
personal purposes. This is an outright refutation of the decisions of the various Federal and State
judges who consider ownership only with reference to the use of arms by an organized state militia.
Another loophole in the sale of guns is the private and secondary market. In a private

Doing School Summary
Denise Pope Clark, author of Doing School, went to Faircrest High School in order to study the
behaviors and habits students, teachers, and parents use to ensure success in the school system. I
am going to analyze each claim she made and determine if they are accurate or not based on my
own experiences. Pope begins by explaining the habits used to get ahead by students and
categorizes them under an umbrella she calls Doing School . The habits she identifies are
establishing allies and treaties, multi tasking, cheating, and being what she calls a squeaky wheel .
See the writing task above for a more in depth definition of these terms. Bear in mind that Pope
doesn t use any numerical data, just her observations from her time at Faircrest High School. I
personally don t see students totally relying on these habits to Do School. In my school
environment, I see students working hard, but only employing these techniques to cut corners
when they don t feel totally committed to a task. Multi tasking and being a squeaky wheel are
common among my student body, but cheating and establishing allies I feel are almost non
existent. I feel if Pope went to multiple schools, instead of just Faircrest, she would have a better
understanding of how most students Do School. The next item Pope discusses is the Grade Trap .
The Grade Trap is essentially the cycle of students knowing, but not learning, the material they need
to for the time being and then moving on and forgetting the

Difference Between Mind And Body
When asked whether there is a difference between mind and body, most people (e.g. most non
philosophers) will likely answer with an immediate yes. This is due to the fact that we have the
inherent belief that our mental processes differ from that of the physical. This idea just seems right.
However, if we truly believe that the mindhas a nonphysical existence then how can we reconcile
the relationship between mind and body an interaction between the nonphysical and the
physical? Furthermore, if we concede that the laws of physics, which only acknowledge the
existence of physical processes, are currently the most accurate descriptors of the world in which
we live, how can we continue to maintain this idea of a nonphysical existence of the mind in a
world solely influenced by physical causes? Therefore, in order to define the mind , we must first
consider these two conflicting ideas and distinguish the characteristics and capabilities of the mind
and how they differ from those of the body. In this paper I will argue that the mind is separate
from the body and not merely defined as a series of physical states.
Our first option in defining the mind is to solely rely on the physical laws of nature. However,
these physical laws only account for the physical states of the universe. Therefore, this option
argues that our mind states are identical with physical states and when we speak of the mind we
are merely stating a particular description of the physical world and

Argical Analysis Of Socrates
Socrates begins his apology by asking for forgives as he is not a professional sophist, and
presenting himself as a foreigner to the courts. Where if he was truly a foreigner, they would show
lenience (17d). He gives a defense to his speaking style as his accusers have pictured him as a
skilled speaker. He explains, I am not a clever speaker at all unless indeed they call a clever speaker
on who speaks the truth (17b). Socratescontinues to paint himself as a common person by
showing he is an elderly man being attacked by the youth of Athens. This is quite cleaver of
Socrates to not only put himself as a defenseless man but also showed his accusers as the ones
who are lying. His main defense is I don t know, this is Socrates ignorance and he will argue this
(Dr. Key).
He begins to address the two charges brought against him, by addressing the older accusers that
he cannot cross examine first because this is not the first time he has been accused of these
things. He is accused of not believing in the gods and teaches more on a physical reason. He
brings to the jury s attention of a play by Aristophanes, that had a Socrates character that, swings
around, claims to be walking on air, and talks a lot of other nonsense on subjects of which I have
no understanding, great or small (19c). He then addresses the accusations that he charges a fee to
educate people (19e). Socrates was showing that he is not an expert in these things, and was trying
to who that these are qualities of his accusers and not him. He explains to the jury that it was this
question of wisdom, and whether he was the wisest person in Athens, that he began questioning the
wisdom of his fellow Athenian (21a b). He points to this as to where it all started for him.
After bringing the attention to his old accusers, he turns to the accounts at hand. He questions his
accuser Meletus, first with the accusations that he is corrupting the youth of Athens. Socrates Asks
him if he is a bad influence then, who is the good influence, and Meletus answers, The laws (24b).
He continues to question about this answer and finds that all adults in Athens help shape the youth
on what is good, except Socrates (25a). He goes on to give an example with a

Taking Precautions Why are constant blows to the head causing these fatal diseases?
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a fatal painless disease that slowly breakdown the
motor neurons in the spinal cord. ALS is absent muscle cells attacks every part of the body
except the brain. Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) is a non curable disease that is
formed by constant recurring head trauma damaging the malfunction of the body. CTE damages
the brain by the buildup of abnormal proteins called Tau. Athletes are getting diagnosed with
these two diseases at a very young because they are participating in contact sports so young.
Contact sports have a huge impact with ALS and CTE because they are not educating the athletes
about the diseases and they are not demanding a change on the safety rules. With contact sports
comes with constant blows to the head that create concussions and brain injuries and they are
very prone to be the main reason of why athletes are getting CTE. While the rules of the game
should not be changed, the safety rules should be, the athletes should be getting educated on ALS

Central High School, the citizens of Little Rock responded in many different ways. Most of the
students at Central High School were very rude to the nine students and very few were kind to
them. In the book there were many instances were the students were rude but one example was on
page 72 when the nine students walked in the schoolmost students were yelling very rude things to
them.
The adults were also very rude to the nine students, they were just as bad as the students in the
school. I saw hundreds of white people, their bodies in motion, their mouths wide open as they
shouted their anger (71). The adults were very unhappy about the Supreme

Thomas Clement Douglas s The Greatest Canadian
Thomas Clement Douglas, or Tommy Douglas was a prominent Canadian politician during the
1900s, as both a premier and a minister of health in the House of Commons. Though he was
born in Scotland, his family moved to Canada at a very early age. Tommy Douglas spent most of
his early life in Manitoba and most of his later life in Saskatchewan. Before he got into politics,
Douglas was a Baptist preacher. He accomplished lots in his time and was even voted as the
number one on the CBC television show the Greatest Canadian . Canadians remember him as a
man with moral integrity and intellectual honesty. In my eyes, he is a hero. He was the first leader
of any socialist government in Canada. He brought free healthcare to Canada, and he believed...

During his time at Brandon College, he met a woman named Irma Dempsey. Whom he married in
1930. Tommy and Irma had two daughters. Shirley who was born in 1934, and Joan, who was
adopted later on. An interesting fact, famous actor Kiefer Sutherland is the son of Shirley Douglas,
making him Tommy Douglas grandson. Tommy Douglas cared deeply for his family.
Tommy was born 1904 in Camelon, Scotland. When Tommy Douglas was 6 years old, his family
relocated to the city of Winnipeg in Canada. Unfortunately, before Tommy had left Scotland, he
had fallen and wounded his right knee which led to Osteomyelitis(an infection of the bone).
Many treatments in Scotland had to be done to help him recover, even though later in Winnipeg
the Osteomyelitis started up again. There was not much that could be done as medical care at
that time in Canada was very expensive. His family was not wealthy. The only option that
seemed present to them was to amputate his leg, until news came that a well known medical
surgeon had wanted to operate on Tommy as long as his parents agreed to allow his medical
students to observe. This event had never left Tommy s memory. In 1918, at age 14, Tommy
Douglas had dropped out of high school to pursue a job that could earn his family more money.
1919, was the year of the Winnipeg Strike. Tommy had witnessed the horror of the strike firsthand.
He saw policemen beating strikers with clubs, he saw law enforcement shoot workers with guns,
he saw cars set on fire.

Marginal Cost Revenue
A way to determine the quantity of profit maximization is to conclude where marginal revenue
equals marginal costs. Rather than computing the profit for all levels of sales; total revenue and
total variable costs are considered. Marginal revenues and marginal costs are considered in a
similar way like marginal profit, thus defining the amount of change for all sales levels (Huter,
2012, p.2).
Pricing Non Pricing Strategies
CVS needs to think through numerous elements impacting its business. Pricing strategies, rivals
and their current products, consumer demands and suppliers are examples of these elements. For
pricing strategies, CVS should consider closeouts, discounts, product bundle pricing, penetration
pricing, geographical pricing, and membership or trade pricing. For non pricing strategies, options
comprise: enhanced service quality, longer opening hours, advertising, and extended warranties
(Kimmons, n.d.). By pricing similar products in a different way they must focus on regional
demographics because geographic pricing enables the maximization of profit. For promoting
unique or new products at provisional price drops, penetration pricing is the most effective. Finally,
bundle pricing and closeouts can be engaged when several

notices a recruit with out his helmet on. He tries to place the helmet back on the the draftee, but

A Polar Disorder Is A Serious Mental Affliction
Bi Polar Disorder is a serious mental affliction that has been and is being neglected severely. It is
one of those illness that can change someone s life drastically. It is important to know the history
of it, how it s diagnosed, how it s treated, and what are the signs that someone needs help. Bringing
awareness to this affliction may prevent someone s harm or death, or better yet allow someone to
know when they need help. Manic Depression Illness, or Bi Polar Disorder as we know it, was said
to have been officially discussed as a disorder in a lecture given by French psychiatrist and
neurologist Jules Gabriel Francois Baillarger. He described it as la folie ГЎ double forme , or the
dual form insanity. This term fit perfectly seeing as in earlier medical journals from almost every
ancient culture, for example: the Greeks, they mention patience suffering from both mania and
melancholia. The first and earliest official standard diagnosis, however, came from a different
French physician and psychiatrist named Jean Pierre Falret. Falret published an article describing
the disorder as la folie circulaire , or the circular depression. Although Falret was published first,
both theories came around in the 1850s. Bi Polar disorder is a mental illness characterized by
alternating periods of elation, depression, and/or anger. Although there is no definite cause, there
are many things that can trigger or activate it. One of the most common source is genetics. This

A Summary For Detecting Malicious Variable Routing
Literature review provides us with various techniques for detecting malicious packet drops. Also,
various classification techniques have been adopted by the authors. R. Rao and G. Kesidis

patterns in multihop wireless networks that are not bandwidth limited which observes the traffic
patterns for the detection of packet dropping attacks. Sensors are used to check the traffic intensity.
In this paper for verifying the traffic a selected traffic transmission patterns is suggested so that it
can be verified by a receiver. Such traffic patterns are used with suboptimal MAC that preserves the
statistical regularity from hop to hop. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Besides randomness, the routes generated by this mechanisms are also highly dispersive and
energy efficient, making them quite capable of bypassing black holes at low energy cost. This
paper, develops a mechanism that generate randomized multipath routes. But extensive

misbehaving nodes. Node with high packet dropping rate is given a bad reputation by its
neighbors and this reputation information is propagated periodically throughout the network and
is used as an important metric in selecting routes. And finally a malicious node will be excluded
from any of the route. Here also Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocol which uses source
routing instead of relying on routing table at each intermediate device. The ambiguous collision

Professor Compagnoni effectively outlined the characteristics of different legal systems in Class
IV, and rereading her class slides was helpful in understanding the subtleties of legal system
associated with my source text, French Civil Law, based on the Napoleonic code (code civil of
1804). I then related that to the legal system as it functions in Canada, making note of the most
prominent differences, and being cognizant of those as I embarked upon my translation. N.B.: In
my view, the term legal system refers to the nature and content of the law generally, and the
structures and methods whereby it is legislated upon, adjudicated upon and administered, within a
given jurisdiction. Common law and civil law legal traditions share similar social objectives
(individualism, liberalism and personal rights), but they diverge in several key areas. In terms of
understanding how legal systems intertwine here in Canada, all of the provinces and territories,
except Quebec, follow the common law system. The Quebec Act of 1774 made Canada a bijural
country (which means it has two types of law). Outside of Quebec, private law is governed by the
common law, and in Quebec, private law is governed by the French Code

Hollywood History Essay
Even though a vast majority of us wish that it was possible to turn back the hands of time and
change or rewrite history. However, the truth of the matter is that we simply cannot. Everything
happens for a reason, and we should learn to accept it. Accept it for what it is, rather than what we
would like it to be.
However, to often in Hollywood the city of glamour and glitz, fortune and fame, movie producers
have a tendency and even feel at liberty to rewrite American history. In my opinion this is all done
out of greed. The movie industry, is all about money, therefore producers are obligated to do

It seems to me that, producers take a chunk of our history and rearrange it to satisfy and appeal to
the interest of today s audience. I now know that we the American audience are very gullible
indeed. Let s take the story of Titanic for instance. It wasn t until just recently that the tale of the
doomed ship was made into a three hour, Hollywood film, becoming the #1 grossing movie of all
time. It was this movie that caused people to become astonished and even obsessed with Titanic.
Sure, we have all heard about the historic tale. After all it is a part of our past, a part of our history.
No one really acknowledged it or even cared until Hollywood took the tragic tale and turned it into
a classic love story. It is a story full of adventure, romance and suspense, all of the qualities that
make a great movie. It seems that people, more now than ever are convinced that the romance
between a woman named Rose, and a man named Jack actually occurred. Whether or not it
actually happened remains relevant, however at this point anything is possible. We have no way
of actually knowing what happened, because many of the survivors have passed away, so we
know only what we read or what Hollywood seems to throw our way. Titanic is just one of the
historic stories that Hollywood, has twisted and changed to make us

Futility In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet
William Shakespeare romantic tragedy Romeo Juliet, a play written during the period of 1594
1595, contains many themes enabling it to be relevant to audiences today. This is because human
nature has remained constant since that period. This play is an Elizabethan misfortune set in the
13th century England, which conveys the story of two young star crossed lovers who cannot be
together as their families are embroiled in a feud. In Romeo Juliet, Shakespeare uses this futility to
symbolize the themes of the play such as the individual against the society and also the meaning of
gender during these times and how it affected the play as a whole. These themes in Romeo Juliet
make the audience aware that the play does not have a use by date. The individual versus society
alludes to the tension or drama which ensues when an individual does not like to live inside the
confinements of their culture and society. Much of Romeo Juliet includes these lovers struggles
against open and social establishments that either unequivocally or verifiably restrict the presence
of their affection. In spite of the fact that they don t generally work in concert, each of these societal
institutions somehow displays obstructions for Romeo and Juliet. The hostility between their

In order to obtain a good match to the data at low temperature, an intermolecular interaction, zJ,
was included using the mean field approximation. The simulation shown in Fig. 5 has J =
+0.255 cmв€’1 and zJ = в€’0.045 cmв€’1. Exchange between two transition metal ions as
mediated by the closed shell Ln(III) ions [La(III) at one end of the series, or Lu(III) at the other]
has been found to be weak.29, 66, 67 A recent study used DFT calculations to show the exchange
between Mn(III) ions across Y(III) in a Mn8Y8 disc to measure J = +0.43 cmв€’1,68 while
antiferromagnetic coupling was observed in a linear Ni La Ni compound (J = в€’0.978 cmв€’1).69
An alternative to intermolecular antiferromagnetic interactions as an explanation for the decrease in
П‡MT at low temperatures could be the ZFS associated with the Mn(III) ions. However, any
attempt to include a contribution for the ZFS of the Mn(III) ion in the simulations was unsuccessful,
because it overcompensated the weak intramolecular coupling interaction and negated the increase
in П‡MT that is observed on lowering the temperature. To confirm the suitability of the simulated
intra and and intermolecular exchange interactions found for compound 1, and to investigate the
possible ZFS associated with the Mn(III) ions, we used DFT and CASSCF calculations (vide infra).

Childhood Family Relationships
Parental child relationships seem to be linked to the health of an individual as they continue
through adulthood. Relationships that are comforting and emotionally important in a child s life
are linked to better overall health in the lifespan of an individual. In this article review, there will
be a continual referral to the behavior model depicted in Chen, Brody, and Miller s article on
ChildhoodClose FamilyRelationships and Health (CITE). ...this model proposes that characteristics
of family relationships including support, conflict, obligation, and parenting behaviors evolve and
change from childhood to adolescence. These characteristics, when considered in conjunction with
developmental needs, govern whether childhood family relationships are based on balance positive
enough to fill a moderating role in which they mitigate the effects that childhood adversities have
on physical health.
Studies on the main effects of childhood family relationships on health have done much to show a
definitive correlation between childhood family conflicts and poor health. Specifically, conflicts or
adversities such as emotional abuse, physical abuse, and sexual abuse toward a child, parental
mental health, parental substance abuse problems, and parental divorce have a been linked to poor
health in adult individuals (CITE!!!). There have been a been studies on both the negative and

Cormac Mccarthy s The Road
In each novel of his personal literary journey, Cormac McCarthy examines death and God in
different ways. Edwin T. Arnold, who wrote his essay Blood and Grace: The Fiction of Cormac
McCarthy before The Road, examines how McCarthy s protagonists are most often those who, in
their travels, are bereft of the voice of Godand yet yearn to hear him speak (14). In Cormac
McCarthys The Road, the father explicitly describes his son as god; however, by juxtaposing the
father and the son and examining their divine resemblances, it is not the boy but the man who
embodies God, supporting Ely s claim that this post apocalyptic world is too harsh for God to exist.
The father views his son as the word of god and a condition that makes life meaningful. His first
expression of this association occurs early in the story: If [the boy] is not the word of God God
never spoke (5). Erik J. Wielenberg, in his essay God, Morality, and Meaning in Cormac McCarthy
s The Road, claims that this conditional association is the hinge upon which all other ambiguous
references to faith and God rest because with if, the man introduces the possibility of God existing
and not existing in the same sentence. He continues to note that this conditionality also highlights
God s ability to exist through his ability to speak and therefore create (1). His interpretation
acknowledges McCarthy s purposeful ambiguity in God s existence specifically because, rather
than despite, the explicit reference to the boy

The Hellenized Rome Essay
The Hellenized Rome The Roman Empire began as a small colony, in the city of Rome, and
eventually, became one of the largest empires that the world has ever known before its ultimate

throughout their existence, the Romans were heavily influenced by the Greeks and other
Hellenistic civilizations. Two different groups of professors argue this point. Professors Matthews,

continue their discourse of Hellenistic influence in philosophy. Matthews et al. state that philosophy
in the early and late Roman world was indebted to the conquered Hellenistic civilizations. In the
early Roman Empire, Greek Skepticism appealed to many Romans after the Greek philosopher,
Carneades, had been brought to Rome in 155 BCE.iii They state that Skepticism faded after
Carneades death, but was revived in the late empire, and eventually, became a permanent influence
of western thought. The later popularity of Greek Stoicism influenced a number of people
including Emperor Marcus Aurelias (Commodus). Finally, they argue that Romans synthesized the
various Greek schools of philosophy (Stoicism, Platonism, etc.) to create a new school of thought
known as Neoplatonism.iv Matthews et al. argue that Romans gained significantly from Hellenistic
civilizations with respect to literature. Their argument includes mentioning the famed library of
Alexandria, which contained more than 700,000 volumes of books.v They argue that much of
early Roman literature was noteworthy for its strong Greek flavour; many early writers wrote in
Greek because they found Latin inferior for high art. Further, they state that Romans used the
Greek writing style for history, lyric and epic poetry, comedy, and tragedy before creating their
own styles. Roman writers took plots from old Hellenistic tales and breathed new life into them

Analysis Of The Movie Overlord
Overlord, a film with an interesting blend of historic footage and acting, does not present a
heroic view of World War Two. This film portrays a pessimistic view of the war using
documentary footage, as well as showing an ordinary soldier who died too young. Alongside
this, at the time anti war sentiment was on the rise and the memory of World War Two was
being reshaped. The usage of documentary footage in the film gives the audience a real view as
to what happened during the D Day invasions. Cooper portrays this particular aspect of the war
in a negative light. Starting off, the footage that is shown is simple arial footage of France
before mass damage has taken place. Then as the film progressed the footage that was shown
grew darker. The audience begins to take in images of planes bombing or shooting targets. Boats
are sunk, trains are derailed, other planes are taken out of the sky, and cars are engulfed in
smoke. As well, footage of the devastation of the bombing of villages is shown. Stores and
homes are engulfed in flames, ruins of villages that once stood. The films even displays footage of
a bomb being dropped and the shockwave is clearly visible giving the audience a sense of how
powerful the ammunition being dropped was. All of this footage shows the death and destruction
associated with D Day. The decision to include this footage instead of something that would make
the audience sympathize with the soldiers, or even show the happier moments that the soldiers

years in prison taught him that the only way his country would survive and thrive was if his
people learned to forgive and move on. A willingness to forgive can be all it takes to unite a
fiercely divided country.
The new South African government, led by President Mandela, addressed the need for
understanding but not for vengeance, a need for reparation but not for retaliation, a need for ubuntu
but not for victimisation (Volmink 191). Ubuntu, a Bantu word meaning, I am because you are,
expresses the concept that our humanity is inherently bound up with one another. Volmink, argues
that we can never be complete as human beings as long as we are alienated from one another (191).
As part of the beginning of the post apartheid era, Nelson Mandela and the African National

Write An Essay About Elie Wiesel s Life
From an early age, Elie Wiesel has led a complex and interesting life that was destined to impact

unlike other Holocaust survivors, Wiesel did not wish to dive straight back into the horrific
events of the past, and promised to himself that he would not publicly write anything pertaining
to his time and experiences in camps for ten years.* In the midst of his Ten years of silence, Elie
Wiesel acquired masterful comprehension of the French language while studying at Sorbonne in
France from 1948 to 1951. During the development of his French, he also took on the study of
philosophy and psychology. With both his old and newly acquired literary skill in hand, Elie took
part in journalism, writing (in a multitude of languages) for several newspapers in France and

  • 2. A Brief Summary On Iwo Jima After several weeks of bombing and air raids, the U.S. was ready to send troops to the island. Navy gunboats fired into the island rapidly to finish softening it up. Thousands of men were sent at once in over 500 landing craft in 10 waves. They had no idea about what they were to face. They approached the 3,000 yards beach nearly untouched, but suddenly a shower of shells, mortars, and bullets flew by them while taking hundreds of lives. Chaos struck and the Marines were anxious to get to shore and dig their foxholes. They arrived at the beaches in 7 different landing zones. On the first day, 30,000 men arrived at the beach with over 40,000 more men to follow. Their goal for day 1, to take Airfield #1. Confusion lurked among the men as they... The Japanese would pop out, fire, and go back into their tunnels. The Marines needed a new strategy. They brought in tanks armed with flame throwers that could shoot over 150 yards for almost 90 seconds. The Japanese decided they would hide and come back later. Things on the island calmed down, and after an hour or two the Japanese would begin firing into groups with lots of surprise. They camped out near airfield 1, waiting forthe time to move onto airfield 2. On the other end of the island, soldiers fought to capture Mt. Suribachi. This was the small volcano that towered over the island. It was the highest point on the island, but also on of the most heavily armed part. Whoever held that mountain had control of the island. • 3. Objectivism and The Fountainhead Essay Objectivism and The Fountainhead How should we live our lives? Do you live for others or for yourself? What do you deem to be the ideal: selflessness, or selfishness? Why? Ayn Rand s novel The Fountainhead addresses these issues and her philosophy behind it called Objectivism. We know what we do through our senses and reason. What we perceive with our senses we know to be real (Garmong). Existence exists and the act of grasping that statement implies two corollary axioms: that something exists which one perceive and that one exists possessing consciousness, consciousness being the faculty of perceiving that which exists (Rand qtd. by Peikoff 1) The second point addresses the idea that thinking is the path to knowledge. The Objectivist rejects the idea, stated by Plato, that all we know is that we know nothing. Emotions, feelings, and premonitions are not concrete and therefore are rejected as sources of knowledge. Concrete evidence dictates certainty thus rationalizing knowledge (Garmong). The third point is the ethics of Objectivism: rational selfishness and the pursuit of our own happiness. We are the beneficiaries of our own actions, and we shouldn t let others dictate our lives (Garmong). The Way Wordsworth and Heaney Present Nature and Rural Life in Their Poetry Born 1770, in Cockermouth, William Wordsworth spent his early life and many of his formative years attending a boys school in Hawkshead, a village in the Lake District. As can be seen in his poetry, the years he spent living in these rural surroundings provided many of the valuable experiences Wordsworth had as he grew up. At the age of 17, Wordsworth moved south to study at Saint John s College, University of Cambridge. Within his poetry, Wordsworth contemplates the relationship between nature and human life. He considers his pantheistic beliefs, while realising that nature has many different facets and possesses the power to have spiritual and emotional impacts on the human form. Wordsworth achieves this in his poetry by presenting nature in many different ways. This is shown clearly in the poem, Daffodils where we can see Wordsworth exploring nature as a source of wonderment; he responds and relates himself to the two underlying themes of memory and imagination, on a spiritual level. Throughout the poem, it is clear that his focus was not to merely describe, in the form of a detailed account, how he saw the daffodils and their surroundings, but to consider the ways in which they affected how he felt that day and looking back when he reflects on that experience. It has a wistful and nostalgic tone, with a strong feeling of sentiment. The poem begins with a personal feeling of solitariness and despondency with the opening line, I wandered lonely as a cloud that floats on high o er vales and hills. Wordsworth uses this simile to compare himself to a cloud, which has many implications concerning how Wordsworth was feeling that day. The word, lonely suggests that he felt isolated or simply free and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mosque Project Since pre Islamic times Mecca has always been known as a sacred site, however due to mass construction and modernization, the sacredness of this holy city may be slowly dying. Mecca contains the Holy Mosque and the Kaaba. The Kaaba is a tall, box like structure which stands in a courtyard in the center of the Holy Mosque, and it became established as the main object of pilgrimages to Mecca (Dictionary of Islamic Architecture). Mecca is the birth place of the prophet Muhammad and contains a lot of important historical sites such as the site where Muhammad was born, the house of the prophet s wife Khadijah and the house of Abu Bakr, as well as Muhammad s grandson s house which was flattened by the King s palace. One being the Saudi Arabian government who operate under Wahhabism, in which they think that it is good to demolish Islamic historical sites (such as the birthplace of Muhammad, or the house he lived in) because they see it as encouraging sinful idolatry. I get that they think that people may start worshiping those historical sites and lose focus on the heart of Islam, but I don t think that is their only motive. I think that the Saudi Arabian government sees a lot of other cities and countries modernizing and urbanizing themselves and making advances in architecture and having a more modern way of life, and I think they are afraid to get stuck. What I mean by that is they are afraid that because the holy mosque is in Mecca, that there city will never make cultural advances but rather be stuck back in the time of the prophet. It is easy to forget that Mecca is a city just like any other, which just happens to house the holy mosque. While it is a mainly visited by Muslims doing the hajj, it is also visited by Nonmuslims and has other attractions than the mosque and Kaaba and I think that the Saudi Arabian government is trying to expand that aspect of Mecca. It was almost analogous to the impressionist art at the time, which was supposed to leave an impression on the audience, having meaning but never a clear one. The use of color , or timbre in the case of music, was heavily used to create the atmosphere of the pieces, achieved by orchestration and texture. This style was seen as a response to Romanticism, getting rid of the forward direction of standard harmonic progression, resulting in an obscure tonality and harmony. Difference Between Systole And Divert Flow To The Heart 2.The heart rate is controlled by the PNS, SNS, and endocrine glands. 3.The difference between systole and diastole is the pulse pressure. Systole is the contraction phase, while diastole is the relaxation phase. Systolic blood pressure is the highest pressure on the wall of the arteries. And the diastolic blood pressure is the lowest pressure, corresponding to when the ventricles are filled with blood during diastole. 4.For blood to flow, there must be a difference in pressure at both ends. Blood flows from an area of high to low pressure. The pressure difference is also created by the resistance in the blood vessels themselves. Increase in reactive oxygen species protection causes GSH depletion. GSH acts as cofactor for Glutathione Peroxidase (GPx) and Glutathione S transferase (GST). Glutathione S transferase is thought to play a physiological role in initiating the detoxification and these enzymes catalyse the reaction of such compounds with the SH group of glutathione, thereby neutralizing their electrophilic sites and rendering the products more water soluble. GPx is present throughout the tissues as four different isoenzymes, cellular, extracellular glutathione peroxidase, as phospholipid hydroperoxide glutathione peroxidase and gastrointestinal glutathione peroxidase (Alam et al 2013). GPx low activity is one of the early consequences of a disturbance of the prooxidant or antioxidant balance due to toxic exposure. I pledge that I have not and will not receive any unauthorized help on any assignment or assessment. The Bible provides much information on ancient history and the ancient Hebrews, but we can not verify the truth behind many of the passages from the Bible.. Few evidence has been found to support much of what the Bible states as history, and many people doubt the actual cosmos of the Hebrew people, meaning they doubt that Yahweh actually even existed. The combination of archaeological evidence and Biblical stories allow for some confirmation of the truth, including the origins of Abraham, the Hebrews journey into Canaan, the flaws in the Hebrews monotheism, the destruction of Solomon s temple, the conquering of the Israelite kingdom, and the evidence of Israel s waning power following the death of Solomon. The origins of the Hebrews can be traced back to Abraham, who the Bible depicts as the patriarch of Judaism. Yahweh promises to Abraham and his descendants the land of Canaan, saying [t]o your offspring I will give this land (Gen. 12:7 8). Abraham lived around the year 4000 B.C.E., and the Bible claims he lived in Ur, an ancient city in southern Mesopotamia, on a former branch of the Euphrates river. I am going to analyze each claim she made and determine if they are accurate or not based on my own experiences. Pope begins by explaining the habits used to get ahead by students and categorizes them under an umbrella she calls Doing School . The habits she identifies are establishing allies and treaties, multi tasking, cheating, and being what she calls a squeaky wheel . See the writing task above for a more in depth definition of these terms. Bear in mind that Pope doesn t use any numerical data, just her observations from her time at Faircrest High School. • 16. Difference Between Mind And Body When asked whether there is a difference between mind and body, most people (e.g. most non philosophers) will likely answer with an immediate yes. This is due to the fact that we have the inherent belief that our mental processes differ from that of the physical. This idea just seems right. However, if we truly believe that the mindhas a nonphysical existence then how can we reconcile the relationship between mind and body an interaction between the nonphysical and the physical? Furthermore, if we concede that the laws of physics, which only acknowledge the existence of physical processes, are currently the most accurate descriptors of the world in which we live, how can we continue to maintain this idea of a nonphysical existence of the mind in a world solely influenced by physical causes? Therefore, in order to define the mind , we must first consider these two conflicting ideas and distinguish the characteristics and capabilities of the mind and how they differ from those of the body. In this paper I will argue that the mind is separate from the body and not merely defined as a series of physical states. Our first option in defining the mind is to solely rely on the physical laws of nature. However, these physical laws only account for the physical states of the universe. Therefore, this option argues that our mind states are identical with physical states and when we speak of the mind we are merely stating a particular description of the physical world and ... Where if he was truly a foreigner, they would show lenience (17d). He gives a defense to his speaking style as his accusers have pictured him as a skilled speaker. He explains, I am not a clever speaker at all unless indeed they call a clever speaker on who speaks the truth (17b). Socratescontinues to paint himself as a common person by showing he is an elderly man being attacked by the youth of Athens. This is quite cleaver of Socrates to not only put himself as a defenseless man but also showed his accusers as the ones who are lying. His main defense is I don t know, this is Socrates ignorance and he will argue this (Dr. Key). He begins to address the two charges brought against him, by addressing the older accusers that he cannot cross examine first because this is not the first time he has been accused of these things. He is accused of not believing in the gods and teaches more on a physical reason. He brings to the jury s attention of a play by Aristophanes, that had a Socrates character that, swings around, claims to be walking on air, and talks a lot of other nonsense on subjects of which I have no understanding, great or small (19c). He then addresses the accusations that he charges a fee to educate people (19e). Socrates was showing that he is not an expert in these things, and was trying to who that these are qualities of his accusers and not him. He explains to the jury that it was this question of wisdom, and whether he was the wisest person in Athens, that he began questioning the wisdom of his fellow Athenian (21a b). He points to this as to where it all started for him. After bringing the attention to his old accusers, he turns to the accounts at hand. He questions his accuser Meletus, first with the accusations that he is corrupting the youth of Athens. Socrates Asks him if he is a bad influence then, who is the good influence, and Meletus answers, The laws (24b). He continues to question about this answer and finds that all adults in Athens help shape the youth on what is good, except Socrates (25a). He goes on to give an example with a ... With the use of the main character, Paul, Remarque how as the older you get, the wiser you get. To begin the development of the theme, Remarque shows Paul in his twenties.Paul explains that since he is young ... the influence of parents [was] at its weakest and girl [had] not yet [had] a holdover [him]. • 24. A Polar Disorder Is A Serious Mental Affliction Bi Polar Disorder is a serious mental affliction that has been and is being neglected severely. It is one of those illness that can change someone s life drastically. It is important to know the history of it, how it s diagnosed, how it s treated, and what are the signs that someone needs help. Bringing awareness to this affliction may prevent someone s harm or death, or better yet allow someone to know when they need help. Manic Depression Illness, or Bi Polar Disorder as we know it, was said to have been officially discussed as a disorder in a lecture given by French psychiatrist and neurologist Jules Gabriel Francois Baillarger. He described it as la folie ГЎ double forme , or the dual form insanity. This term fit perfectly seeing as in earlier medical journals from almost every ancient culture, for example: the Greeks, they mention patience suffering from both mania and melancholia. The first and earliest official standard diagnosis, however, came from a different French physician and psychiatrist named Jean Pierre Falret. Falret published an article describing the disorder as la folie circulaire , or the circular depression. Although Falret was published first, both theories came around in the 1850s. Bi Polar disorder is a mental illness characterized by alternating periods of elation, depression, and/or anger. Although there is no definite cause, there are many things that can trigger or activate it. One of the most common source is genetics. This disorder ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

S.Marti, T.Giuli, K.Lai and M.Baker proposed a paper titled, Mitigating Routing Misbehavior in Mobile Ad hoc Network , discussed about a reputation system that relies on neighbors to monitor and identify misbehaving nodes. Node with high packet dropping rate is given a bad reputation by its neighbors and this reputation information is propagated periodically throughout the network and is used as an important metric in selecting routes. I then related that to the legal system as it functions in Canada, making note of the most prominent differences, and being cognizant of those as I embarked upon my translation. However, to often in Hollywood the city of glamour and glitz, fortune and fame, movie producers have a tendency and even feel at liberty to rewrite American history. It was this movie that caused people to become astonished and even obsessed with Titanic. Sure, we have all heard about the historic tale. After all it is a part of our past, a part of our history. No one really acknowledged it or even cared until Hollywood took the tragic tale and turned it into a classic love story. It is a story full of adventure, romance and suspense, all of the qualities that make a great movie. It seems that people, more now than ever are convinced that the romance between a woman named Rose, and a man named Jack actually occurred. Whether or not it actually happened remains relevant, however at this point anything is possible. • 30. Futility In Shakespeare s Romeo And Juliet William Shakespeare romantic tragedy Romeo Juliet, a play written during the period of 1594 1595, contains many themes enabling it to be relevant to audiences today. This is because human nature has remained constant since that period. This play is an Elizabethan misfortune set in the 13th century England, which conveys the story of two young star crossed lovers who cannot be together as their families are embroiled in a feud. In Romeo Juliet, Shakespeare uses this futility to symbolize the themes of the play such as the individual against the society and also the meaning of gender during these times and how it affected the play as a whole. These themes in Romeo Juliet make the audience aware that the play does not have a use by date. The individual versus society alludes to the tension or drama which ensues when an individual does not like to live inside the confinements of their culture and society. Much of Romeo Juliet includes these lovers struggles against open and social establishments that either unequivocally or verifiably restrict the presence of their affection. • 33. Cormac Mccarthy s The Road In each novel of his personal literary journey, Cormac McCarthy examines death and God in different ways. Edwin T. Arnold, who wrote his essay Blood and Grace: The Fiction of Cormac McCarthy before The Road, examines how McCarthy s protagonists are most often those who, in their travels, are bereft of the voice of Godand yet yearn to hear him speak (14). In Cormac McCarthys The Road, the father explicitly describes his son as god; however, by juxtaposing the father and the son and examining their divine resemblances, it is not the boy but the man who embodies God, supporting Ely s claim that this post apocalyptic world is too harsh for God to exist. The father views his son as the word of god and a condition that makes life meaningful. His first expression of this association occurs early in the story: If [the boy] is not the word of God God never spoke (5). Erik J. Wielenberg, in his essay God, Morality, and Meaning in Cormac McCarthy s The Road, claims that this conditional association is the hinge upon which all other ambiguous references to faith and God rest because with if, the man introduces the possibility of God existing and not existing in the same sentence. He continues to note that this conditionality also highlights God s ability to exist through his ability to speak and therefore create (1). His interpretation acknowledges McCarthy s purposeful ambiguity in God s existence specifically because, rather than despite, the explicit reference to the boy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
