Light In August Essay
Crafting an essay on the topic of "Light In August" can be a challenging endeavor. This novel,
penned by William Faulkner, delves into complex themes, intricate characterizations, and a
narrative structure that can be demanding to decipher. As an essay writer, you need to navigate
through the layers of symbolism, character motivations, and historical context embedded in the
novel.
One of the difficulties lies in interpreting the multifaceted characters and their relationships. The
characters in "Light In August" are often enigmatic, and deciphering their actions and
motivations requires a keen analytical eye. You may find yourself grappling with the intricacies
of Joe Christmas's identity, Lena Grove's journey, and Reverend Hightower's complex role in the
narrative.
Moreover, addressing the thematic elements within the novel poses its own set of challenges.
Faulkner weaves a tapestry of racial tension, religious symbolism, and existential questioning.
Tackling these themes requires a nuanced understanding of the historical and cultural context of
the American South in the early 20th century.
The narrative structure of "Light In August" further adds to the difficulty. Faulkner employs a
non-linear storytelling technique that necessitates a careful exploration of the chronology of
events. Piecing together the timeline and understanding the significance of the structure is crucial
for a comprehensive analysis.
In conclusion, writing an essay on "Light In August" demands more than just summarizing the
plot. It necessitates an in-depth exploration of characters, themes, and narrative techniques. It's a
task that requires analytical prowess, critical thinking, and a deep appreciation for Faulkner's
literary artistry.
If the complexity of this task seems overwhelming, it's worth noting that assistance is available.

Nazi Death Camp Of World War II
The Holocaust was one of the most horrific time periods where unthinkable and
unimaginable crimes were committed against Jews, Gypsies and other racial groups.
No one could have ever imagined the numbers of innocent people Hitler massacred.
Until liberation millions of Jews were sent to death and concentration camps, such as
Auschwitz. With tons of severe and cruel ways of extermination they were stuck in
this horrible place. Because of the horrific living conditions, forced labor, mass
murdering, and other inhumane activities, Auschwitz was the most feared, and the
largest Nazi Death Camp of World War 2. Auschwitz is located in Oswiecim, Poland.
The concentration camp was opened in May, 1940, under Commander Rudolf Hoss.

Husbands and wives were forced apart and rarely ever saw each other again.
Prisoners were given thin, loose, rags to wear. They were stripped white and blue.
The barracks or housing they lived in was modeled after horse stables. Usually,
there were 800 1,000 prisoners in each row of barracks. The prisoners slept ten to a
bed sleeping sideways with mice, rats, lice, and other creatures and bed bugs (qtd.
in Beyers, Ann 288). This then led to every member of camp being forced to have
their heads shaved completely off, most of the time using dull, broken scissors
that would cut their heads. The plumbing, if there ever was any, was horrible. The
prisoners were only allowed to use the bathroom for ten seconds, while being
monitored, otherwise, the prisoners used buckets. Also when you arrived your
name was forgotten and you were given a tattoo. This tattoo was a number or code
and it was what you were known by. It was put on the arm in a very unclean way
and sometimes led to infection and death, even in children. Even the water supply
was very limited. People would go to such great lengths that they would kneel down
and drink from the puddles of water and mud for a drink. Dying of dehydration was
not uncommon. Only about 1% of areas had running water. When the Nazis would
feed the prisoners, they would make sure that each only got or consumed around 200
calories a day. That was hardly enough to keep them alive. Countless people died by
starvation, many
The Importance Of Communication In Buffy The Vampire
Slayer
Hush is known to be the most epic episode from the fourth season of the tv series,
Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It is recognized for the prolonged silence the majority of
the episode contains. The episode s dialogue style is unusual from the authors
ordinary writing, in this way it added more of a spunk to the episode. Hush is an
interesting episode to the people, the story in the episode is so great, it received an
Emmy nomination. It being a favorite, greatly brought the episodes ratings to be the
highest of the season. This episode of the series represents theme and how
communication is not limited to just one preference. In the episode Hush, the idea
that when the ability to communicate verbally is removed, people believe it s the end
of communication, but in reality, expressions, actions, and symbols can often paint a
better picture.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The two characters can not convey what they desired to say to one another. In the
opening start of the episode, while they both still possessed their voices, talking didn
t help them express how they felt about each other. Later in the episode just after
both of their voices are lost, they have the ability to connect more and be able to truly
express themselves. Talking does not seem to give them any advantage, because
whenever they were to interact they would get disrupted between their babbling .
Since they could not verbally communicate, by the reason of their voices being lost,
they communicate through facial expressions in a way that display what they are
feeling. They use each other s fighting skills, which are actions, to communicate with

Rutherford B. Hayes Essay
amp;#9; Rutherford B. Hayes was considered by many to be a simple,
uncontroversial, and honest man to run for the presidency. That is why many people
are perplexed that such an astute person should have one of the most controversial
elections and presidencies ever. Considering Hayes honorable principles, it came as
a surprise to see how he could unknowingly make a decision about reconstruction
where its effects were so blatantly derogatory to the cause he was trying to help.
amp;#9;The controversy began when he was merely running for office. Hayes was
running against Democrat Samuel J. Tilden. When the ballots were tallied in 1876,
Hayes clearly lost the popular vote, and had lost the electoral vote 184 to 165 .
However, twenty votes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He thought that the country and most white southerners would welcome a policy of
moderation and react by assuring rights previously granted only sparingly .
Consequently, he thought that by releasing troops from the last two remaining states
would, quot;get from those states by their governors, legislatures, press, and people
pledges that the Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and fifteenth Amendments shall be faithfully
observed; that the colored people shall have equal rights to labor, education, and the
privileges of citizenship quot; . His theory that the southern government keeps their
honor was severely disturbed by what was to follow in the near future.
An 1871 report to Congress says that in nine counties in South Carolina there were
35 lynchings, 262 black men and women were severely beaten, and over 100 homes
were burned . To Hayes benefit, most people believed that he truly didn t foresee
what would happen with his policy. Professor John W. Burgess noted Hayes
quot;greatest struggle which he had with himself ... was the question whether he was
deserting the just cause of the black man and delivering him back to servitude quot; .
There were actually mixed emotions about the topic all around. Evan William Gillete
agrees that, quot;the reaction of most northern Republicans ranged from enthusiastic
relief that the issue of the use of troops in the south would no longer intrude into
every campaign, to fatalistic acceptance of the necessity of withdrawal quot;.
Finding The Underlying Conflict Sam
The director may have used this portion of the movie to establish the underlying
conflict Sam is being questioned about. The court system consistently states that
Lucy will surpass his IQ by her next birthday. The judge claims that due to his low
intelligence, Sam will not be able to take care of Lucy as well as someone with a
higher mental age. Although this is the court s assumption, does this make Sam any
less capable of raising Lucy?
Mindsets such as Henry Goddard, author of the Kallikak Family Study and translator
of Binet s original IQ test, mimic the thought process similar to the court system in
the film. Goddard states that the, fixed character of mental levels was the reason why
some people were poor and unemployed. The fault ... Show more content on

This response is the exact situation society should be avoiding. In this sense, the
characters have realistic attributes, but caricatured portrayals to hook the viewer and
keep continuous interest. However, I deeply question if this method is how cinema
should educate society. Are these filmmakers setting a stage for stereotypes and jokes
that should not be laugh matters?
In I Am Sam, Samuel Dawson is fun loving, extroverted, and detail minded. He
favors routine and shows consistency in his love for others. When he s not dressed in
his Starbucks uniform, he is generally found wearing a neutral colored polo and
jacket. Sam is presented as a persistent and determined father who cares for anyone
present in his life. His actions of love are displayed in big events such as his fight for
custody for his daughter as well as smaller scaled tasks like his delicacy in organizing
the sugar packets at his workplace.
Throughout the duration of the film, Sam encounters individuals who positively
grow due to their interactions with him. Characters such as Rita, enter his life with
harsh attitudes and hostile commentary. In Michelle Pfeiffer s opening scene, she s
found cutting off her son and therapist in a fury full of tears. She appears to be cold
hearted and a hard professional shell to crack. Remarkably, her time spent with Sam
begins to mold her personality. While learning

market, and, second, the most profitable use within that market. The concept is most

Jack the ripper? Or jill the ripper?
Inspector Abberline who was on the jack the ripper case, thought that it was a
woman who had done it the entire time. The theory started after one of the murders
of a woman named Mary Kelly. Mary Kelly was murdered between the hours of 2
and 3 in the morning. Yet Caroline Maxwell had claimed to see her twice that
morning after the time she was said to have passed. She claimed to have seen Mary
Kelly at around 8am looking sick. And again around an hour later talking to some
man outside the pub house. It would be very easy for a midwife to pull of being jack
the ripper. It was not unusual for a midwife to be walking around all hours of the
night, let alone have blood on her clothes because people would have just thought it
was from her working. And she could walk in broad daylight with no one
questioning her because everyone was looking for a man. And not a woman.
Mary Pearcey the only woman suspect at the time
Here is some of the background on Mary Pearcey and to why they picked her as a
suspect at the time of the killings.
Mary lived next door to her neighbors Phoebe and her husband. Well it turns out
that Phoebe s husband is having an affair with Mary. One day Mary invited Phoebe
over for tea at around 4pm. When Phoebe s husband was at home he heard the
sound of breaking glass coming from Mary s house. He shouted over the fence to see

Labelling Theory
Throughout the course of history, criminologists have dedicated their lives to
answering two fundamental questions which could potentially expose what makes
individuals within society predisposed towards criminal behaviour what makes a
criminal a criminal? Can anyone become criminal? However, understanding crime
and criminality in itself is a relatively complex and multifaceted topic, as a vast array
of theories are continually investigated, both individually and in combination, with
the objective to one day answer this lingering issue. Labelling theory and biological
positivism are two such theories within contemporary society that share this
overarching goal. Rising to prominence in the 1960s, labelling theory has produced a
great deal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The theory therefore suggests that criminology has been given too much attention
to criminals as types of people and insufficient attention to the collection of social
control responses. That therefore means the law, the police, the media and the
public publications helps to give crime its shape. This is supported by the conflict
theory which demonstrates how deviance reflects inequalities and power. This
approach holds that the causes of crime may be linked to inequalities of class, race
and gender and that who or what is labelled as deviant depends on the relative power
of categories of people. While social labels commonly comprise a part of the cultural
framework that people draw on to define and categorize the social world, deviant
labels are unique in that they are stigmatizing labels or markers this assumption is
fundamental to labelling theory. Moreover, deviant labels are linked with stigma,
meaning that the contemporary culture has attached specific, more often than not
negative metaphors or stereotypes to deviant labels evident within
Symptoms And Possible Treatment Options For Apert
Syndrome
According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH, 2013), Apert syndrome is a
genetic disease that results in the premature fusion of the sutures between the bones
of the skull (craniosynostosis), which causes an abnormally shaped head and face.
Apert syndrome accounts for approximately 4.5% of all craniosynostosissyndromes,
with an estimated birth prevalence of 1:64,500 (Giancotti et al., 2014, p. 1445).
Because children with Apert syndrome exhibit a variety of craniofacial and central
nervous system anomalies, many of them are likely to demonstrate severe speech and
languagedifficulties. As a future speech language pathologist, it is important to be
aware of some of the major factors contributing to these children s speech and
language problems in order to better serve them and their families. Thus, in this
paper, I will closely examine the causes, signs and symptoms, and possible treatment
options for Apert syndrome, as well as explore some of the speech, language,
hearing, and other related problems often associated with it.
Causes
Apert syndrome is caused by a genetic mutation that occurs early on in pregnancy.
Recently, researchers at Oxford University identified the specific genetic change that
results in the characteristic features of Apert syndrome. They report that slight,
specific changes in the genetic makeup of chromosome number 10, known as
Fibroblast Growth Receptor Factor 2 (FGFR2), causes the rare syndrome. All
children receive two

in the beginning. I ve seen my sister diagnosed with diabetes her first week of high

perspective about hard work and perseverance has changed dramatically, and for
that I am thankful. My dad was diagnosed with cancer about 5 years ago. I was in

Our Needs And Wants Essay
Our Needs and Wants: effects on our inner peace
Life, in general, has not changed over the years; it is only the surroundings and
circumstances that have changed. The way we choose to react to those changes,
determines the direct effect on the quality of our life. We need to focus on the need of
distinguishing, between the ever increasing responsibilities on our shoulders and
other insignificant matters that consume our precious time.
Our needs and wants are two distinct entities. We needto separate our needs from our
wants in order to achieve satisfaction. It is definitely not a simple matter. The
dilemma is that we all want everything, but we don t need everything we want. When
we can quiet the unnecessary, we can give an opportunity to ... Show more content on

We need to find an opportunity to coach somewhere, in fact anywhere. Find a young
person, a young team, jump in and impart training, like we would if we were
coaching at the highest level. Such initiative and experience, will give us sufficient
boost to reach our goals, and actually become a sport coach one day.
We should not be afraid to take small steps. There s something powerful about
momentum...no matter how little. Many times, the impossible is simply the untried.
When we are immobilised with fear, when each task ahead appears to be a huge
one, when we are unable to lift ourselves to face it at those moments we can break
the dilemma by using two simple words: Do something! By taking some small steps,
the required momentum will begin to come into our life.
Most people don t succeed because they are too afraid to even try. As incredible as
it sounds, they decide in advance that they are going to fail. Many times, our final
goal seems so distant unachievable that we don t even make an effort. But, once we
have made our decision and actually start, it s like we are halfway
Evolution Of Asian-American Theatre
Asian American theatre came about in the 1960s and 70s starting with four groups:
East West Players in LA; Asian Theatre Workshop later named Asian American
Company in San Fran; Theatrical Ensemble of Asians later named Northwest Asian
American Theatre in Seattle; and Pan Asian Repertory Theatre in NYC.These
companies provided necessary resources for Asian Americans wanting to pursue any
aspect of theatre for nearly four decades. Towards the end of the 1990s companies and
theatre groups geared toward Asian Americans climbed to about 40. In the beginning
of Asian American theatre, most people involved were of East Asian decent;
however, near the 21st century, Southeast Asians and South Asians would join the
Asian American theatre movement.

Comparing Emerson And Ralph Waldo Emerson
Ralph Waldo Emerson says There is a time in every man s education when he
arrives at the conviction that envy is ignorance; that imitation is suicide. This
quote is immensely true you should always be true to yourself and you shouldn t
envy people you don t really know that much about. You should stay true to
yourself because if you want to imitate someone who are killing yourself
figuratively. How is your inner self alive if you don t display it no one knows who
you really are so your soul is dead to others. They would just see that you are like
everyone else or like someone else in particular and then you will be compared to
the other person which isn t what people usually want. If someone were to
compare you to someone and you are just off there in the corner hearing this and
they are saying blah blah he s/she s exactly like so and so and you are just like no I
m me , but you have no proof because what they are saying is true. Your inner self
would never be known to people if you like to hide away and just do what it is

Similarities Between Dr Faustus And Malcolm X
Yin and Yang:
An essay about a power hungry Doctor Faustus and a young Malcolm X.
In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting not only the authors of well known
novels Doctor Faustus and X: A Novel, but also the main characters of Malcolm
Little and Doctor Faustus. I will compose this essay on the two points of: How are
Kekla Magoon and Christopher Marlowe different but also similar? How are Faustus
and Malcolm different yet similar?
The acknowledgement of how these writers are from different time eras is a great
start. Kekla Magoon was born in Michigan in late 1980 while Christopher Marlowe
was born in February 1564 a whole four hundred and sixteen years before Magoon!
Although they were born at vastly different times they both had ... Show more content

One big connection is Malcolm X was well known for being a powerful force
during the civil rights era and Doctor Faustus craved power at the same magnitude
that Malcolm received. In the end both characters received power but suffered for
it. Malcolm Little was eventually assassinated for using his power for african
americans, while Faustus was dragged to hell for his power. The difference was
Doctor Faustus wanted power and would do anything for it so he sold his soul.
Malcolm was simply going through life and received this power he did not initially
strive for. Both characters got power in their own right. Faustus used his for
philosophy, writing, and tomfoolery while Little s capacity was more realistic in the
sense being able to persuade others. Another comparison of the two would be that
Faustus several times throughout is torn between selling his soul or not. Malcolm in
the same way experiences this same situation of personal conflict throughout the
novel of trying to figure out where he wants to go with his life. This same internal
conflict is shown at the beginning of the book talking about Malcolm debating what
to do with his pistol in the

Career Episode 3
1.1 Introduction
1.1.1 In this third career episode I shall describe a position that I am currently
occupying. I have been working On Farm Water Management Department, as Water
Management Officer since November 2007. I joined this organization as Assistant
Agricultural Engineer and then after promoted as water management officer. It
functions under Ministry of Agriculture, Punjab, Pakistan. I am an agricultural

All these are the basic focuses of department. 1.2.2 High Efficiency Irrigation Systems
In crop production the irrigation water is the most critical factor to enhance its
productivity and also effective use of other non water inputs. There is inefficient use
of available resources in agriculture field in Punjab province and on other hand
Punjab is encountering severe shortage of irrigation water from many decades. It is
causing much lower agriculture productivity while Punjab is highly productive
resource base of Pakistan. High efficiency irrigation systems (HEIS) resulted in
finding water and nutrient efficient options and most appropriate ways to address
various crop production related issues.
1.2.3 Types of HEIS
There are number of High efficiency irrigation system methods such as bubbler ,
drip , rain gun, center pivot , conventional sprinkler all these methods involve use
of pipes for carrying water from the source to points of use. Small emitters in form
of droplets are being used in drip or trickle irrigation which provide water to
individual plants without causing waste of water. Bubbler irrigation is as well
similar to trickle irrigation the difference is only that instead of pipe in this form of
system we use micro sprinklers mounted on small spikes. Only in rain gun irrigation
system water is being pumped at high pressure via piped system and then after
sprayed over the field.
Drip Irrigation System the highly water efficient
Technology s Impact On Transportation Essay
Technology have greatly impacted the transportation field and in effect have
completely changed the way the human race travel, the way goods are shipped and
the economy of every developed nation. Technology in transportation is not
something new, technology have continually had in impact on travel and
transportation. This impact can be see ranging from the Viking Longships , which
were very fast for their times. These Longships facilitated the Vikings expansion
and helped them conquer new lands that were hundreds of miles away from their
homes (Vikings: Vikings at sea). The railroads in the 1800 s also were a new form
of technology, and this technology provided an opportunity for individuals to move
farther west to new lands and new opportunities that they never thought would have
existed. In our day and age, technology will continue to have a massive impact on
transportation. Knowing that technology will continue to have an impact on
transportation, this paper will analyze the technological opportunities in the
transportation field and the new opportunities that they will provide in the near
future. First, this paper will examine a new form of rail transportation called
Hyperloop. This paper will discuss how Hyperloop affects product manufacturers
and everyday individuals in their daily lives. Second, this paper will look at a new
phase that the Tesla Company is implementing, a phase they title Master Plan, Part
Deux , we will discuss how this new phase might affect the
My Song Of Choice (Make Me Wanna Holler) By Marvin
Gaye
My song of choice is Inner City Blues (Make Me Wanna Holler) by Marvin Gaye.
The song was written about inflation, financial, and tax troubles by most people
within the inner cities. The song was written in the early 1970 s but it is still true
to see people struggle with the same problems. He references how money is made
but before it s seen it s taken, this is referring to how a person s pay check is mostly
consumed by taxes. Every day tax payers are the ones who earn a working wage to
provide for themselves and their families. We the people are taxed in various ways
not just through our paychecks but also when making purchases: food, clothing, some
utilities, and we can continue naming more. Then further in the song Gaye writes:

7 Things to Consider When Investing in Bonds
Financial ServicesInvesting in Bonds
Investing in bonds is a complex matter, one that involves much thought prior to
dumping [usually] a large amount of money into a corporate, municipal, or
government bond. There are many things to consider before you should invest in a
bond: (1) risk profile and target return, (2) when is/are the maturity date(s) and do
they follow your investment horizon, (3) what are the risks, (4) can the bonds be
purchased back before maturity, (5) are the interest payments made at a fixed or
floating rate, (6) can the issuer cover its debt obligations, (7) and lastly, how are the
bonds secured. All of these should be considered before rushing into purchasing a
bond of any kind.
First, before investing it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A fixed rate offers a set percentage of the face value, meaning that the investor will
know exactly how much the coupon will pay each time until maturity, due to the
fixed rate. On the other hand, a floating rate bonds have their coupon payments
determined by the market. In the U.S., this is determined by the US Treasury rate,
LIBOR, or prime rate/fed funds. These floating bonds are typically issued with 2 5
year maturity terms, and typically by governments, banks, and other financial
institutions. In the event of a floating rate, the bond issuer should fully make aware to
the buyer the method of interest. Another thing to analyze prior to investing is
whether or not an issuer can cover its debt obligations. Keep in mind that bond
purchasers are loaning money to the issuer, thus the purchaser should be sure that
the issuer plans and is able to make good on coupon payments, as well as the
principal once the bond has matured. This can be very complex, and requires
monitoring on an around the clock basis by professionals. The use of financial
metrics can make this task a little easier to forecast. Lastly, it is crucial to determine
whether or not you will receive your money back, or at least part of your money,
should an issuer go belly up. Investors can determine this through the use of two
figures: (1) loss given default (LGD) and (2) recovery rate. In addition, it is
Crohn s Disease Case Study
Crohn s Disease (CD)
As mentioned earlier, it is fundamental for the health practitioner to know the
severity of the disease in order to decide an appropriate treatment.1 One of the
tools that are often used to assess the severity of CD is the Crohn s Disease
Activity Index. (CDAI).11 It determines the current severity of CD based on the
patients signs and symptoms of the past 7 days.11 CDAI score less than 150 is a
marker of remission (no active inflammation and has no symptoms of CD) of Crohn
s disease.11 In the meantime, CDAI score more than 450 is a marker of severe Crohn

The new generation drugs may be considered to be used for the treatment of CD in
case the conventional therapy is ineffective.13 These drugs are biological agents that
act more vigorously to combat the inflammation in CD.13 They are licensed for use
in Australi but are costly, and government subsidy is only available to those who met
the criteria.13 Biological agents suppress the immune systems, therefore prior starting
them, patients are required to be screened for certain infections, and they need to take
extra precautions regarding vaccinations, infections, and travel while on this agents.13
There are currently two tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNFО±) antagonist available

vedolizumab which is a gut specific humanised monoclonal antibody that binds to

their binding to mucosal addressin cell adhesion molecule 1 expressed on vascular

I Have For My Remix Project
For my Remix project, I have done the blog kind of think that helps the students
what they should do while they are in college. I have seen so many students in
Michigan State University(MSU) who feel pretty stressed out about their studies.
I think that is because so many people do not do the things that they suppose to do.
The other reason I have selected this topic to do the remix on, is that I have seen
one of my friends go though this, I mean he was about the drop out of the college,
but he changed his life style totally. Like, he started going to class and taking notes
and all other things. I have used Storify, which is one of the best platforms for
writing the blogs. I have used this website because I was familiar with it and I knew
how to use it.
For this remix project, my audience was the group of people who want to do well
in college like high school students, and other group of people who are thinking
about dropping the college or even feeling stressed out (I also consider some
international students too). I tried to make the blog as funny as I can. I mean the
reason for that is if you go online and try to find this type of article that talks about
the same topic as mine, you probably end up with boring article. The article that I
used to do the remix on was the most boring article and it also talks about this type
of topic which clearly makes it much more boring that is why I decided to add some
pictures and some GIF things so that I can attract number of people.

Misfortunes In Voltaire s Candide
This essay on Candide starts with Candide in redeeming Cunegonde. She had
many misfortunes in the book, as well as Candide, and he saved her a few times.
The one we will focus on here is rescuing her in the end. Although his fair
Cunegonde was now dark skinned, eyes bloodshot, flat bosomed, cheeks wrinkled,
arms red and rough, recoiled three steps in horror, and then advanced out of good
manners , Candide still embraced her and ransomed both her and the old woman. He
delivered them out of their life of servitude and into a life they could enjoy, a better
destiny. Not only was he paying off their debt from her debtor, he was also putting
right that which went wrong many years before. Even though at the bottom of his
heart, Candide had no desire to marry Cunegonde , he was determined to marry her
because of the Baron s impertinence and Cundegonde had so urged him so that he
could not say no. Here it shows... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I would like to talk of Cundegondes brother the Baron. Candide killed the baron
because he could never allow his sister to marry a commoner. Miraculously the
baron survives and Candide finds him and Pangloss in a chain gang and he pays
for their freedom. After Candide reunites the Baron and his sister he tells the Baron
that he will marry her. The Baron says that he will not marry him as long as he is
alive. I just can t believe that after all that has happened to the Baron that he is so
worried about his sister marrying into the right sort of family. They are living in this
fantasy world of birth rights and high places in society, and yet they have grown
old and can finally have happiness. The Baron has an unrealistic view of a just
society. Candide cannot accept his decision and sends him back to the chain gang so
that Cundegonde and the others can have a peaceful end of their lives. Here they

The Poisonwood Bible By Barbara Kingsolver
Women usually live life going down either two different paths, the path of being
successful or the path of trying to be successful. In the beginning of The
Poisonwood Bible, Orleanna introduces to the readers in a third person s point of
view, The daughters march behind her, each one tensed to fire off a womans heart on
a different path to glory or damnation (5). Orleanna, a mother who lives throughout
the story of The Poisonwood Bible, acknowledges how women, in great numbers, are
found walking down the path of trying to be successful. The Poisonwood Bible, by
Barbara Kingsolver, involves the Price family of 6, which consists of Orleanna, her
husband Nathan, and their 4 daughters. They go on a missionary trip to the Congo in
the 1960 s led by Nathan, whose purpose was to spread Christianity in the Congo.
Throughout their journey within the Congo, each individual family member faces
many hardships. These hardships involve patriarchy. Throughout the Poisonwood
Bible, Kingsolver expresses feminist ideologies through Orleanna s chapters.
Orleanna expresses a lot of her thoughts on what she goes through with her family,
while connecting to others around the world. Essentially, the reason why Kingsolver
expresses these ideologies is because she wants to inform her readers of the patriarchy
that existed throughout history, and is still existing today.
Kingsolver expresses the feminist ideologies, which takes into the account of the
inferiority of women towards men. This means

There are many different ways to apply makeup. There is really no correct way to
do it. These are the steps that I go through when I apply my makeup. It all depends
on how you like to apply your makeup and what is easiest for you. The first step to
having perfect looking makeup is to get out all the tools and products you will be

depends on what you are comfortable using. Some of these tools may include
different brushes, a beauty blender, your fingers and an eyelash curler. The next step
is applying and blending out concealer in the places you need more coverage. Then

woman whose son will play a pivotal role in the upcoming war against the machines.
This is simply a fictional story told for the entertainment of millions at the box office,
but what if it could offer some insight into the future? Artificial Intelligence is
growing rapidly and will be a major threat to humanity once it arrives. Some of the
greatest minds of the 21st century, such as Stephen Hawking, think that the world

Weak AI cannot do such things. Strong AI would not have the same limitation; it
would be able to do everything a human can do without needing separate programs
for each task and it would do so at a much faster rate. A human infant learns from
trial and error. If an infant touches a hot stove its brain remembers that the stove
was painful and stores that for future reference so the infant does not continue to
touch every hot stove it sees. Until recently computers couldn t learn and only
followed their programing, but in the past decade many companies such as google
have developed computers that learn how to play video games through trial and
error. The more advanced programs can learn to play several games with similar
concepts by using what it learned in one game and applying it to another, such as
ping pong and tennis. This is remarkably similar to human infants. Who knows how
quickly this could develop from weak AI to strong AI. Once mankind develops
general AI it will not need to invent anything else, machines will be better than
humans at everything in a matter of hours from being born (Bostrom). Thanks to the
internet any AI that is developed and has access to the internet will also have access
to the collective knowledge of the entire human race; including data on individuals
thanks to social media. Once the AI knows everything humans have ever known it
will begin to teach itself things that mankind has not yet learned and improve upon

What Is The Valley Of The Kings
The Valley of the Kings is located on the west bank of the Nile River, across from
the ancient city of Thebes, which is now the modern city of Luxor (1). This location
may also have been chosen because of the naturally formed pyramid called al Qurn
which dominates the valley (2).
This valley was mainly used for the burials of the kings from the eighteenth,
nineteenth and twentieth dynasties of the New Kingdom. There are 63 tombs that
have been discovered in this valley so far, and according to these discoveries, the
very first pharaoh to build his tomb here was Amenhotep I (approximately reigned
from 1526 1506 BC) whilst the last pharaoh to be buried here might be Ramesses XI
(approximately from 1104 1075 BC) (3). The Valley

himself that he will wreck the lovers harmony: O, you are well tuned now! / But I ll

to which he refers are the tuning pegs on a stringed instrument. Their love is the
instrument on which Iago is planning to loosen ( set down ) the pegs until the
harmony is turned into discord. [Scene Summary]

Othello s occupation s gone! (3.3.345 357)
The music of war, including the thunder of the cannon, makes Othello feel alive, fully

Shortly after Othello has berated Desdemona about the handkerchief, Cassio
appears to once again ask Desdemona to intervene on his behalf. She tells him that

In other words, now is not a good time to talk to Othello; he s not himself, and if his
appearance had changed as much as his attitude, she wouldn t recognize him. The
phrase in tune is so common (in Shakespeare s time as well as ours) that it may be a
stretch to call it a musical image. [Scene Summary]
At a moment when Iago is trying to build Othello s jealousy into a murderous rage,
Othello begins to think of what a beautiful, sweet woman Desdemona is. Iago tells
him that he needs to put such thoughts out of his mind, and Othello says, Hang
her! I do but say what she is. So delicate with her needle. An admirable musician! O,
she will sing the savageness out of a bear (4.1.187 189). However, it s not
Desdemona s music, but Iago s words that win the battle for Othello s soul. Othello s
mood becomes ever more savage, and he plans the time, place, and manner of

In Frida Kahlo s painting My Grandparents, My Parents and Me, Kahlo shows what
it is like for a family in the Mexican culture. Kahlo s painting conveys the
preconceived notions of being conscious of your roles in the family, for instance,
the painting displays that the woman is supposed to marry, have a child, raise the
child and have the family of her own. It also displays the family lineage and what a
woman or man aspires to be in life. Currently Sandra Cisneros resides in San
Antonio in a purple house and she describes herself as nobody s mother and
nobody s wife. Both Frida Kahlo s and Cynthia Y. Hernandez s works convey the
idea of having one s culture limit one s freedom and individuality. Cisneros and
Esperanza are both victims of this idea and realize that the only way to live one s
life freely is to defy the roles and limitations created by one s culture. Works Cited

The Signalman by Charles Dickens and The Darkness Out There by Penelope Lively
Comparing The Signalman by Charles Dickens and The Darkness Out There by
Penelope Lively is an ideal way of looking at two authors from different times and
backgrounds. Dickens, writing in the nineteenth century, would have had a very
different audience to write for from Lively, writing in the twentieth century.
Therefore, each author uses different techniques to create tension in the two pieces.
During the nineteenth century there was a strong belief in ghosts and the spiritual
world; telling ghost stories around the fireplace is often seen as a typical form of
Victorian entertainment. Dickens draws on this tradition to create a short... Show

Unlike The Signalman, this setting is not a main focus of the story, instead it just
lurks in the background until the climax of the story. This is symbolical of the
way the unknown is explored in Mrs Rutter s life as well. Before the climax of the
story events are just hinted at but they are just rumours, the real story is unknown.
The contrast in this approach is shown in the language used. For example, in The
Darkness Out There, Lively writes: And, somewhere, presumably, the crumbling
rusty scraps of metal and cloth and ... bones? The ellipses and the question mark
highlight the uncertainty that is present throughout this story and show the implicit
nature of The Darkness Out There. In contrast, Dickens use of language shows the
explicit nature of The Signalman. When he mentions the figure, he speaks of it
directly as the spectre, and the ghost, thus showing how openly the unknown is
explored. In The Darkness Out There, Lively uses the characters ages to explore
the unknown. Sandra and Kerry are adolescents on the brink of being plunged into
the adult world of work. Sandra is shown to be full of dreams such as: One day she
would have a place in the country, but not like this. However, she does not know for
sure what will happen to her. Kerry is shown to be more certain about what he is
going to do but the
The Success Of An English Language Learner
Success in EWRT 1A From almost 8000 miles away landing here, I not only packed
up my luggage full of clothes and shoes, but also had my determination to gain a
band new and successful life here in the United States. I choose here for studying and
seizing more opportunity for self accomplishment. Undoubtedly, China, where I come
from, owns the very different system of education and language. Like many of the
Chinese students studying abroad, I have gone through the roughest part of that
pattern and have been taken a glance of the outside world. I chose to escape from
where I got used to and started my journey here with my dream of a better and even
successful life. It is obvious that language would be the first major problems I need
to face directly. As an English language learner here in the United States, probably
I am not at the same level as those who are native speakers here. Thus, there will be
more problems for me to overcome it and to success. Mixed up with my confidence
and faith to achieving, along with my experiences and skills gained in learning
language from both China and here, I believe I can achieve the goal of success in
EWRT 1A. My family background prepared me to be successful in English 1A.
Actually they neither speak English nor train me speak in English. The reason why I
consider my background is beneficial is that I have been a bilingual since I live in
China. I speak both Cantonese and Teochew language, both of which contains the

Johnnie Walker Essay
Johnnie walker is one of the most well known and highest selling scotch whisky
brand and is enjoyed in more than 180 countries worldwide. It also represents the
idea of personal progress and achievements. The business was founded in 1820 by
John Walker and since then he never looked back. He would grow from a grocer s
own scotch whisky and progressed to becoming a global icon. Today, his brand and
the consumers are following the same forward looking perspective. The following are

Johnnie Walkers took inspirations from Woody Guthrie, the American singer
songwriter, to highlight and showcase the country s progressive values. The message
was timely and clearly focused on the anti immigrant campaign. This version of the
song was unveiled to the audience on the night before the elections. It clearly aimed
towards Trump s anti immigrant campaign. They have made the ad dramatic by
showing multicolored visuals of Americans and the tag line which could blend with
the occasion: Keep Walking America. Apparently, the ad was shot over two week
which consists of real stories from multiple destinations like New Orleans, Santa Fe,

Effects Of Heat Illness On High School Athletes
Chapter 1: Introduction
In 2004, heat illness was the third leading cause of death in high school athletes.1
When playing outdoors in hot and humid environments, children are at higher risk for
heat illness compared to adults. Heat illness includes multiple levels of severity,
ranging from typically manageable heat cramps to a life threatening heat stroke.2 Pre
pubescent children have immature thermoregulatory systems and they have a higher
sweat threshold due to their smaller sweat glands. Their body surface area to mass
ratio is higher than adults, increasing their absorption of heat. It is crucial to monitor
and control body temperature and hydration status, particularly in these situations.3
Previous Research
The American Academy of Pediatrics has created a climatic guide of temperature in
combination with relative humidity to determine safe conditions and dangerous
conditions. The policy includes information for parents, coaches, and pediatricians
about how to monitor for signs and symptoms of a heat illness. One main
recommendation is to avoid exercise during the hottest parts of the day, yet this is
not always feasible when participating in organized outdoor sports, like a tournament
or a meet that lasts all day. Children are at a high risk for overexertion with
inadequate rehydration. If adults are not informed of these dangers and children are
not monitored during physical activity, they are at a much higher risk for heat illness,
especially during hot and

Introduction As technology changes in the communication environment, the impact
is felt in the advertising field. In case advertisers fail to adapt as well as monitor the
changes being witnessed field of technological communication, they face the threat of
losing millions of funds, which they direct to ineffective advertising spending. The
DVR (digital video recorder) is one of the major revolutions in technology that
advertisers should familiarize themselves with to ... Show more content on

With the tremendous advancements being realized in DVR technology therefore, it
is appropriate for the advertisers to device strategies that will help them identify both
the threats and opportunities that this device presents. Review of Literature Any
form of advertising situation offers both opportunities and threats in order for the
advertisers to attain their goals. Communication goals through advertising aim at
boosting recall of the brand, sales increase, and attaining the target audience. In order
for the advertisers to develop effective advertising strategies, they should put into
consideration two vital factors. These include considering communication strategies
that can help them reach their target audience and understand the how the audience
behaves while using the mass media. All other strategic decisions that the advertisers
make are dependent on a thorough understanding of these two major forces
(Hendricks, 2010). By embarking on theoretical frameworks, it is possible for
advertisers to understand these two major factors and help to analyze as the
opportunities and threats presented by DVR use. With the emergence of new
technology, the behavior of the audience with respect to ways in which they use the
mass media changes on a constant basis. In this case, experts stipulate that the DVR
have the potential of altering the manner in which
Off Task Behavior Analysis Paper
Comment: The results from the FAST (Functional Assessment Screening Tool)
sheet show that Joey wants to obtain social reinforcement/attention (with a total
score of 8 out of 8). The second highest score from the FAST sheet was social
reinforcement /escape (5 out of 8) when Joey wanted to avoid requests made by
others. Thirdly Joey used this behaviour (3 out of 8) to access specific activities or
items. Overall, we can see from the results from the FAST sheet, as well as the ABC
observation form, that during classroom instruction and individual assignments, Joey
is using his off task behaviour most likely to get attention from his teacher and
indirectly his classmates. In Joey s assessment for off task behaviour, there will be no

Joey s reading materials will remain on his desk for the entire session and will not
be removed due to off task behavior (Shumate, Wills, 2010, p. 33). Data Collection
Method: Time Based Method, Interval Recording, Whole Interval will be used to
collect data as we are interested in the behaviour that occurs during the entire
interval. Interval recording is flexible and provides useful data particularly for off
task behaviour. It is broken down into intervals or blocks of time, and observations
are marked separately for each interval. Since we would like to get Joey to be on
task, we want to know how long each type of behaviour lasts (on/off), we will
therefore require a method to ensure each duration. Another consideration is to
make it as easy as possible since the teacher is busy and has other students to
consider (ear bud, please see materials). Lastly, but importantly, we need the
information to be useful to our particular situation as our goal for Joey is to be on
task most or all the time. Joey s behaviour is non uniform so whole interval method
was chosen, as it will provide better data concerning time on/off task behaviours even
though this method puts more demand on the

Introduction
The presence of natural resources in a country is supposed to a positive addition
towards realizing development goals. Both economic and social development is
supposed to benefit from approximated revenues that are to be generated from mining
industries. However, the views that natural resources are a major source of economic
and social growth has been scrutinized over the past decade, with the rising number
of countries where resources expectations have not been met having contributed to
these reviews (Collier). These reviews have led to the emergence of two major views
with regards to the relationship that exist between natural resources and general
national development. These views are; the conventional view and the alternative
view. The conventional view holds that there still exist a positive relationship
between natural resources and growth while the alternative view uses the examples
of countries where growth has declined or stalled after discovery of natural
resources. The alternative describes what is regarded as the resources curse (Davis).
This discussion paper will discuss the relationship that exists between natural
resources, governance and national growth. In doing this, North Korea will be used a
case study while seeking to identify the resources that are found in the country, their
status and the avenues through which the resource curse can be avoided. The cases
on the OT mining in Mongolia will be
It s Time to Legalize Drugs Essay
No one can honestly claim that current American drug policies have been a success.
To the contrary, the current policy of drug prohibition, aside from being ineffective
and costly, has created a set of unwanted consequences including: a high prison
population of non violent offenders, corruption within law enforcement, health
issues, and an erosion of civil liberties . Albert Einstein said, Insanity is doing the
same thing over and over and expecting different results. Yet despite the failures of
the current policy in deterring druguse that is just what the government is choosing to
do. It s time to consider a different approach to the drug issue. An approach that will
address drug use in an innovative way while solving the... Show more content on

(Office of National Drug Control Policy) With numbers like these it s clear that the
current drug policy is not only costly, but ineffective at preventing drug use. The
high number of drug users combined with the nation s tough drug laws has helped
make the US the world s leading jailer. By the end of 2008 2,304,115 people were
incarcerated according to a December 2009 report by the US Bureau of Justice
Statistics. Drug offenders accounting for 22% of the US prison population
according to an article titled Incarcerated in America on the Human Rights Watch
Website. The cost to house an inmate averages about $35,000 a year, according to a
New York Times article by Jennifer Steinhauer. When all that money is added up
that s a lot of money which could very easily be used in better ways instead of
pursuing and jailing non violent drug offenders. In countries with more liberal drug
policies such as the Netherlands, where cannabis has been decriminalized and where
drug use is seen not as a criminal issue but as a health issue, drug use is actually
much lower than the US. According to the United Nations only 5.2% of those 12 and
over in the Netherlands have used drugs in the past year. (Martin) Thanks in large
part to the Netherlands approach to drug education , which sees drug experimentation
as part of normal growing up and thus aims at providing the youth with the most
accurate information possible so they will know what they re getting into.
My Visit To A Market Place Is Of Great Experience
A visit to a market
Pleasant description:
My visit to a market place is of great experience. Slight breeze is playing softly with
the hair and cheeks of people. Lights illuminated the whole market as the room is
prepared to welcome a new bride. Shops are made in an order showing the sense of
discipline. Walls of shops are painted with vibrant and catching colors. Door of
shops are spotless making customers able to see in the shop. Every shop decorates
its front side with ringing bells and other spectacular things. Street in front of shops
are smooth and wide as someone made them with heart. Different color stripes are

Writing about a same place in same time with opposite view is technical and very
interesting. Writer s tool box helps a lot in this task.
First tool is direct statement of meaning by which I stated my both descriptions.
I wrote My visit to a market place is of great experience. This starting sentence
describe about my good experience about going to a market. Reader can somehow
understand what I am going to write further. In my unpleasant description I wrote In
evening, my visit to a market place is a bad experience that gives sense to reader
about negative things of the same place.
Show sentences is next tool that I employed. I used this tool so that I make my
readers to indulge in the scene completely. In pleasant description, the line Lights
illuminated the whole market as the room is prepared to welcome a new bride
describe the brightness of lights in the market, and Food corners with their
mouthwatering food items tempting visitors to come and eat shows the scene of
food stalls. In negative description, A thick layer of dust covered the hangings
outside the doors, Flies are buzzing on the food items, Benches are impaired because
of broken legs tells about bad side of a market

Light In August Essay.pdf

  • 1. Light In August Essay Crafting an essay on the topic of "Light In August" can be a challenging endeavor. This novel, penned by William Faulkner, delves into complex themes, intricate characterizations, and a narrative structure that can be demanding to decipher. As an essay writer, you need to navigate through the layers of symbolism, character motivations, and historical context embedded in the novel. One of the difficulties lies in interpreting the multifaceted characters and their relationships. The characters in "Light In August" are often enigmatic, and deciphering their actions and motivations requires a keen analytical eye. You may find yourself grappling with the intricacies of Joe Christmas's identity, Lena Grove's journey, and Reverend Hightower's complex role in the narrative. Moreover, addressing the thematic elements within the novel poses its own set of challenges. Faulkner weaves a tapestry of racial tension, religious symbolism, and existential questioning. Tackling these themes requires a nuanced understanding of the historical and cultural context of the American South in the early 20th century. The narrative structure of "Light In August" further adds to the difficulty. Faulkner employs a non-linear storytelling technique that necessitates a careful exploration of the chronology of events. Piecing together the timeline and understanding the significance of the structure is crucial for a comprehensive analysis. In conclusion, writing an essay on "Light In August" demands more than just summarizing the plot. It necessitates an in-depth exploration of characters, themes, and narrative techniques. It's a task that requires analytical prowess, critical thinking, and a deep appreciation for Faulkner's literary artistry. If the complexity of this task seems overwhelming, it's worth noting that assistance is available. • 2. Nazi Death Camp Of World War II The Holocaust was one of the most horrific time periods where unthinkable and unimaginable crimes were committed against Jews, Gypsies and other racial groups. No one could have ever imagined the numbers of innocent people Hitler massacred. Until liberation millions of Jews were sent to death and concentration camps, such as Auschwitz. With tons of severe and cruel ways of extermination they were stuck in this horrible place. Because of the horrific living conditions, forced labor, mass murdering, and other inhumane activities, Auschwitz was the most feared, and the largest Nazi Death Camp of World War 2. Husbands and wives were forced apart and rarely ever saw each other again. Prisoners were given thin, loose, rags to wear. They were stripped white and blue. The barracks or housing they lived in was modeled after horse stables. Usually, there were 800 1,000 prisoners in each row of barracks. The prisoners slept ten to a bed sleeping sideways with mice, rats, lice, and other creatures and bed bugs (qtd. in Beyers, Ann 288). This then led to every member of camp being forced to have their heads shaved completely off, most of the time using dull, broken scissors that would cut their heads. The plumbing, if there ever was any, was horrible. The prisoners were only allowed to use the bathroom for ten seconds, while being monitored, otherwise, the prisoners used buckets. Also when you arrived your name was forgotten and you were given a tattoo. This tattoo was a number or code and it was what you were known by. It was put on the arm in a very unclean way and sometimes led to infection and death, even in children. Even the water supply was very limited. People would go to such great lengths that they would kneel down and drink from the puddles of water and mud for a drink. Dying of dehydration was not uncommon. Only about 1% of areas had running water. When the Nazis would feed the prisoners, they would make sure that each only got or consumed around 200 calories a day. That was hardly enough to keep them alive. Countless people died by starvation, many

It is recognized for the prolonged silence the majority of the episode contains. The episode s dialogue style is unusual from the authors ordinary writing, in this way it added more of a spunk to the episode. Hush is an interesting episode to the people, the story in the episode is so great, it received an Emmy nomination. It being a favorite, greatly brought the episodes ratings to be the highest of the season. This episode of the series represents theme and how communication is not limited to just one preference. Talking does not seem to give them any advantage, because whenever they were to interact they would get disrupted between their babbling . Since they could not verbally communicate, by the reason of their voices being lost, they communicate through facial expressions in a way that display what they are feeling. They use each other s fighting skills, which are actions, to communicate with one
  • 4. Rutherford B. Hayes Essay amp;#9; Rutherford B. Hayes was considered by many to be a simple, uncontroversial, and honest man to run for the presidency. That is why many people are perplexed that such an astute person should have one of the most controversial elections and presidencies ever. Considering Hayes honorable principles, it came as a surprise to see how he could unknowingly make a decision about reconstruction where its effects were so blatantly derogatory to the cause he was trying to help. amp;#9;The controversy began when he was merely running for office. Hayes was running against Democrat Samuel J. Tilden. When the ballots were tallied in 1876, Hayes clearly lost the popular vote, and had lost the electoral vote 184 to 165 . However, twenty votes ... His theory that the southern government keeps their honor was severely disturbed by what was to follow in the near future. An 1871 report to Congress says that in nine counties in South Carolina there were 35 lynchings, 262 black men and women were severely beaten, and over 100 homes were burned . To Hayes benefit, most people believed that he truly didn t foresee what would happen with his policy. Professor John W. Burgess noted Hayes quot;greatest struggle which he had with himself ... was the question whether he was deserting the just cause of the black man and delivering him back to servitude quot; . There were actually mixed emotions about the topic all around. Evan William Gillete agrees that, quot;the reaction of most northern Republicans ranged from enthusiastic relief that the issue of the use of troops in the south would no longer intrude into every campaign, to fatalistic acceptance of the necessity of withdrawal quot;.
  • 5. Finding The Underlying Conflict Sam The director may have used this portion of the movie to establish the underlying conflict Sam is being questioned about. The court system consistently states that Lucy will surpass his IQ by her next birthday. The judge claims that due to his low intelligence, Sam will not be able to take care of Lucy as well as someone with a higher mental age. Although this is the court s assumption, does this make Sam any less capable of raising Lucy? Mindsets such as Henry Goddard, author of the Kallikak Family Study and translator of Binet s original IQ test, mimic the thought process similar to the court system in the film. Goddard states that the, fixed character of mental levels was the reason why some people were poor and unemployed. The fault ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, I deeply question if this method is how cinema should educate society. Are these filmmakers setting a stage for stereotypes and jokes that should not be laugh matters? In I Am Sam, Samuel Dawson is fun loving, extroverted, and detail minded. He favors routine and shows consistency in his love for others. When he s not dressed in his Starbucks uniform, he is generally found wearing a neutral colored polo and jacket. Sam is presented as a persistent and determined father who cares for anyone present in his life. His actions of love are displayed in big events such as his fight for custody for his daughter as well as smaller scaled tasks like his delicacy in organizing the sugar packets at his workplace. Throughout the duration of the film, Sam encounters individuals who positively grow due to their interactions with him. Characters such as Rita, enter his life with harsh attitudes and hostile commentary. In Michelle Pfeiffer s opening scene, she s found cutting off her son and therapist in a fury full of tears. She appears to be cold hearted and a hard professional shell to crack. Remarkably, her time spent with Sam begins to mold her personality. While learning

She claimed to have seen Mary Kelly at around 8am looking sick. And again around an hour later talking to some man outside the pub house. • 10. Labelling Theory Throughout the course of history, criminologists have dedicated their lives to answering two fundamental questions which could potentially expose what makes individuals within society predisposed towards criminal behaviour what makes a criminal a criminal? Can anyone become criminal? However, understanding crime and criminality in itself is a relatively complex and multifaceted topic, as a vast array of theories are continually investigated, both individually and in combination, with the objective to one day answer this lingering issue. Labelling theory and biological positivism are two such theories within contemporary society that share this overarching goal. Rising to prominence in the 1960s, labelling theory has produced a great deal... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The theory therefore suggests that criminology has been given too much attention to criminals as types of people and insufficient attention to the collection of social control responses. That therefore means the law, the police, the media and the public publications helps to give crime its shape. This is supported by the conflict theory which demonstrates how deviance reflects inequalities and power. This approach holds that the causes of crime may be linked to inequalities of class, race and gender and that who or what is labelled as deviant depends on the relative power of categories of people. While social labels commonly comprise a part of the cultural framework that people draw on to define and categorize the social world, deviant labels are unique in that they are stigmatizing labels or markers this assumption is fundamental to labelling theory. Moreover, deviant labels are linked with stigma, meaning that the contemporary culture has attached specific, more often than not negative metaphors or stereotypes to deviant labels evident within
  • 11. Symptoms And Possible Treatment Options For Apert Syndrome According to the National Institutes of Health (NIH, 2013), Apert syndrome is a genetic disease that results in the premature fusion of the sutures between the bones of the skull (craniosynostosis), which causes an abnormally shaped head and face. Apert syndrome accounts for approximately 4.5% of all craniosynostosissyndromes, with an estimated birth prevalence of 1:64,500 (Giancotti et al., 2014, p. 1445). Because children with Apert syndrome exhibit a variety of craniofacial and central nervous system anomalies, many of them are likely to demonstrate severe speech and languagedifficulties. As a future speech language pathologist, it is important to be aware of some of the major factors contributing to these children s speech and language problems in order to better serve them and their families. Thus, in this paper, I will closely examine the causes, signs and symptoms, and possible treatment options for Apert syndrome, as well as explore some of the speech, language, hearing, and other related problems often associated with it. Causes Apert syndrome is caused by a genetic mutation that occurs early on in pregnancy. Recently, researchers at Oxford University identified the specific genetic change that results in the characteristic features of Apert syndrome. They report that slight, specific changes in the genetic makeup of chromosome number 10, known as Fibroblast Growth Receptor Factor 2 (FGFR2), causes the rare syndrome. All children receive two

  • 20. Similarities Between Dr Faustus And Malcolm X Yin and Yang: An essay about a power hungry Doctor Faustus and a young Malcolm X. In this essay I will be comparing and contrasting not only the authors of well known novels Doctor Faustus and X: A Novel, but also the main characters of Malcolm Little and Doctor Faustus. I will compose this essay on the two points of: How are Kekla Magoon and Christopher Marlowe different but also similar? How are Faustus and Malcolm different yet similar? The acknowledgement of how these writers are from different time eras is a great start. Kekla Magoon was born in Michigan in late 1980 while Christopher Marlowe was born in February 1564 a whole four hundred and sixteen years before Magoon! One big connection is Malcolm X was well known for being a powerful force during the civil rights era and Doctor Faustus craved power at the same magnitude that Malcolm received. In the end both characters received power but suffered for it. Malcolm Little was eventually assassinated for using his power for african americans, while Faustus was dragged to hell for his power. The difference was Doctor Faustus wanted power and would do anything for it so he sold his soul. Malcolm was simply going through life and received this power he did not initially strive for. Both characters got power in their own right. Faustus used his for philosophy, writing, and tomfoolery while Little s capacity was more realistic in the sense being able to persuade others. Another comparison of the two would be that Faustus several times throughout is torn between selling his soul or not. Malcolm in the same way experiences this same situation of personal conflict throughout the novel of trying to figure out where he wants to go with his life. This same internal conflict is shown at the beginning of the book talking about Malcolm debating what to do with his pistol in the

There is inefficient use of available resources in agriculture field in Punjab province and on other hand Punjab is encountering severe shortage of irrigation water from many decades. It is causing much lower agriculture productivity while Punjab is highly productive resource base of Pakistan. High efficiency irrigation systems (HEIS) resulted in finding water and nutrient efficient options and most appropriate ways to address various crop production related issues. 1.2.3 Types of HEIS There are number of High efficiency irrigation system methods such as bubbler , drip , rain gun, center pivot , conventional sprinkler all these methods involve use of pipes for carrying water from the source to points of use. Small emitters in form of droplets are being used in drip or trickle irrigation which provide water to individual plants without causing waste of water. Bubbler irrigation is as well similar to trickle irrigation the difference is only that instead of pipe in this form of system we use micro sprinklers mounted on small spikes. Only in rain gun irrigation system water is being pumped at high pressure via piped system and then after sprayed over the field. Drip Irrigation System the highly water efficient

  • 24. 7 Things to Consider When Investing in Bonds Financial ServicesInvesting in Bonds Investing in bonds is a complex matter, one that involves much thought prior to dumping [usually] a large amount of money into a corporate, municipal, or government bond. There are many things to consider before you should invest in a bond: (1) risk profile and target return, (2) when is/are the maturity date(s) and do they follow your investment horizon, (3) what are the risks, (4) can the bonds be purchased back before maturity, (5) are the interest payments made at a fixed or floating rate, (6) can the issuer cover its debt obligations, (7) and lastly, how are the bonds secured. All of these should be considered before rushing into purchasing a bond of any kind. First, before investing it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A fixed rate offers a set percentage of the face value, meaning that the investor will know exactly how much the coupon will pay each time until maturity, due to the fixed rate. On the other hand, a floating rate bonds have their coupon payments determined by the market. In the U.S., this is determined by the US Treasury rate, LIBOR, or prime rate/fed funds. These floating bonds are typically issued with 2 5 year maturity terms, and typically by governments, banks, and other financial institutions. In the event of a floating rate, the bond issuer should fully make aware to the buyer the method of interest. Another thing to analyze prior to investing is whether or not an issuer can cover its debt obligations. Keep in mind that bond purchasers are loaning money to the issuer, thus the purchaser should be sure that the issuer plans and is able to make good on coupon payments, as well as the principal once the bond has matured. This can be very complex, and requires monitoring on an around the clock basis by professionals. The use of financial metrics can make this task a little easier to forecast. Lastly, it is crucial to determine whether or not you will receive your money back, or at least part of your money, should an issuer go belly up. Investors can determine this through the use of two figures: (1) loss given default (LGD) and (2) recovery rate. In addition, it is

I have seen so many students in Michigan State University(MSU) who feel pretty stressed out about their studies. I think that is because so many people do not do the things that they suppose to do. The other reason I have selected this topic to do the remix on, is that I have seen one of my friends go though this, I mean he was about the drop out of the college, but he changed his life style totally. Like, he started going to class and taking notes and all other things. I have used Storify, which is one of the best platforms for writing the blogs. I have used this website because I was familiar with it and I knew how to use it. For this remix project, my audience was the group of people who want to do well in college like high school students, and other group of people who are thinking about dropping the college or even feeling stressed out (I also consider some international students too). I tried to make the blog as funny as I can. I mean the reason for that is if you go online and try to find this type of article that talks about the same topic as mine, you probably end up with boring article. The article that I used to do the remix on was the most boring article and it also talks about this type of topic which clearly makes it much more boring that is why I decided to add some pictures and some GIF things so that I can attract number of people.

This is symbolical of the way the unknown is explored in Mrs Rutter s life as well. Before the climax of the story events are just hinted at but they are just rumours, the real story is unknown. The contrast in this approach is shown in the language used. For example, in The Darkness Out There, Lively writes: And, somewhere, presumably, the crumbling rusty scraps of metal and cloth and ... bones? The ellipses and the question mark highlight the uncertainty that is present throughout this story and show the implicit nature of The Darkness Out There. In contrast, Dickens use of language shows the explicit nature of The Signalman. When he mentions the figure, he speaks of it directly as the spectre, and the ghost, thus showing how openly the unknown is explored. In The Darkness Out There, Lively uses the characters ages to explore the unknown. Sandra and Kerry are adolescents on the brink of being plunged into the adult world of work. Sandra is shown to be full of dreams such as: One day she would have a place in the country, but not like this. However, she does not know for sure what will happen to her. Kerry is shown to be more certain about what he is going to do but the

The Success Of An English Language Learner Success in EWRT 1A From almost 8000 miles away landing here, I not only packed up my luggage full of clothes and shoes, but also had my determination to gain a band new and successful life here in the United States. I choose here for studying and seizing more opportunity for self accomplishment. Undoubtedly, China, where I come from, owns the very different system of education and language. • 43. Effects Of Heat Illness On High School Athletes Chapter 1: Introduction In 2004, heat illness was the third leading cause of death in high school athletes.1 When playing outdoors in hot and humid environments, children are at higher risk for heat illness compared to adults. Heat illness includes multiple levels of severity, ranging from typically manageable heat cramps to a life threatening heat stroke.2 Pre pubescent children have immature thermoregulatory systems and they have a higher sweat threshold due to their smaller sweat glands. Their body surface area to mass ratio is higher than adults, increasing their absorption of heat. It is crucial to monitor and control body temperature and hydration status, particularly in these situations.3 Previous Research The American Academy of Pediatrics has created a climatic guide of temperature in combination with relative humidity to determine safe conditions and dangerous conditions. The policy includes information for parents, coaches, and pediatricians about how to monitor for signs and symptoms of a heat illness. One main recommendation is to avoid exercise during the hottest parts of the day, yet this is not always feasible when participating in organized outdoor sports, like a tournament or a meet that lasts all day. Children are at a high risk for overexertion with inadequate rehydration. If adults are not informed of these dangers and children are not monitored during physical activity, they are at a much higher risk for heat illness, especially during hot and

Communication goals through advertising aim at boosting recall of the brand, sales increase, and attaining the target audience. In order for the advertisers to develop effective advertising strategies, they should put into consideration two vital factors. Off Task Behavior Analysis Paper Comment: The results from the FAST (Functional Assessment Screening Tool) sheet show that Joey wants to obtain social reinforcement/attention (with a total score of 8 out of 8). The second highest score from the FAST sheet was social reinforcement /escape (5 out of 8) when Joey wanted to avoid requests made by others. Thirdly Joey used this behaviour (3 out of 8) to access specific activities or items. Overall, we can see from the results from the FAST sheet, as well as the ABC observation form, that during classroom instruction and individual assignments, Joey is using his off task behaviour most likely to get attention from his teacher and indirectly his classmates. Joey s reading materials will remain on his desk for the entire session and will not be removed due to off task behavior (Shumate, Wills, 2010, p. 33). Data Collection Method: Time Based Method, Interval Recording, Whole Interval will be used to collect data as we are interested in the behaviour that occurs during the entire interval. Interval recording is flexible and provides useful data particularly for off task behaviour. It is broken down into intervals or blocks of time, and observations are marked separately for each interval. Since we would like to get Joey to be on task, we want to know how long each type of behaviour lasts (on/off), we will therefore require a method to ensure each duration. Another consideration is to make it as easy as possible since the teacher is busy and has other students to consider (ear bud, please see materials). Lastly, but importantly, we need the information to be useful to our particular situation as our goal for Joey is to be on task most or all the time. Joey s behaviour is non uniform so whole interval method was chosen, as it will provide better data concerning time on/off task behaviours even though this method puts more demand on the

The Presence Of Natural Resources Name Institution Course Unit Lecturer Date Introduction The presence of natural resources in a country is supposed to a positive addition towards realizing development goals. Both economic and social development is supposed to benefit from approximated revenues that are to be generated from mining industries. However, the views that natural resources are a major source of economic and social growth has been scrutinized over the past decade, with the rising number of countries where resources expectations have not been met having contributed to these reviews (Collier). These reviews have led to the emergence of two major views with regards to the relationship that exist between natural resources and general national development. These views are; the conventional view and the alternative view. The conventional view holds that there still exist a positive relationship between natural resources and growth while the alternative view uses the examples of countries where growth has declined or stalled after discovery of natural resources. The alternative describes what is regarded as the resources curse (Davis). This discussion paper will discuss the relationship that exists between natural resources, governance and national growth. To the contrary, the current policy of drug prohibition, aside from being ineffective and costly, has created a set of unwanted consequences including: a high prison population of non violent offenders, corruption within law enforcement, health issues, and an erosion of civil liberties . Albert Einstein said, Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. Yet despite the failures of the current policy in deterring druguse that is just what the government is choosing to do. It s time to consider a different approach to the drug issue. (Office of National Drug Control Policy) With numbers like these it s clear that the current drug policy is not only costly, but ineffective at preventing drug use. The high number of drug users combined with the nation s tough drug laws has helped make the US the world s leading jailer. By the end of 2008 2,304,115 people were incarcerated according to a December 2009 report by the US Bureau of Justice Statistics. Drug offenders accounting for 22% of the US prison population according to an article titled Incarcerated in America on the Human Rights Watch Website. The cost to house an inmate averages about $35,000 a year, according to a New York Times article by Jennifer Steinhauer. When all that money is added up that s a lot of money which could very easily be used in better ways instead of pursuing and jailing non violent drug offenders. In countries with more liberal drug policies such as the Netherlands, where cannabis has been decriminalized and where drug use is seen not as a criminal issue but as a health issue, drug use is actually much lower than the US. According to the United Nations only 5.2% of those 12 and over in the Netherlands have used drugs in the past year. (Martin) Thanks in large part to the Netherlands approach to drug education , which sees drug experimentation as part of normal growing up and thus aims at providing the youth with the most accurate information possible so they will know what they re getting into.
