which you can access 24/7.
• The library e-book collection can be accessed

• Alabama Virtual Library (AVL) is primarily a
group of online databases with magazine,
journal, and newspaper articles on various
subjects.
• The AVL can be accessed at
http://www.avl.lib.al.us or through the LRC
Resources blog.
• No user ID or password required to access
the AVL in Alabama.
• Out-of-state access is available by obtaining
a user ID and password from the library.

• The following AVL databases are
recommended for beginning researchers:

• Opposing Viewpoints in Context
• Points of View Reference Center

• Basic Internet searches can help you find quick
facts related to your topic

information, not all of which is trustworthy

option that allows you to filter results

11. Evaluating Internet Resources
• Because information freely available on the Internet
is not regulated for accuracy or reliability, you will
need to evaluate resources found online. Examine
each Internet resource for the following:
• Currency – When was the information originally published,
and when was it most recently updated?
• Relevance – Can you check the sources of the information?
Are relevant, functional links provided?
• Authority – Who is the author, and what are his or her
credentials?
• Accuracy – Can the information be verified, and is it well
written and professionally presented?
• Purpose- Is the information intended to inform or persuade?
Is the information presented in an objective manner?
• Assess each Internet source critically to determine
if the information is appropriate for your paper.
