This document provides grammar notes on using the te-form of adjectives in Japanese sentences and counting months in Japanese. It explains that when using multiple verbs or adjectives in a sentence, at least one must be conjugated to the te-form. For i-adjectives the i changes to kute and for na-adjectives the na changes to de. Examples are provided of te-form conjugations for different types of adjectives. It also introduces the counter for months - kagetsu - and provides the numbers from 1 to 10 months in Japanese characters and pronunciation. Sample sentences demonstrate using time periods of months in Japanese sentences.

G1. TE-FORM OF ADJECTIVES
Remember that using more than one verb in a sentence requires using the て-form of at least one of
those verbs? Now in lesson 13, we will learn that adjectives function similarly. Keep in mind that a
verb conveys action, while an adjective describes the qualities of a noun.
Remember from Lesson 11 that Japanese has 2 kinds of adjectives: い adjectives and な adjectives.
Sometimes the only way to tell the difference between an い and a な adjective is to look the
word up in the dictionary. You will otherwise need to memorize which is which.

The tables below will provide you with some examples of both kinds adjectives conjugated to the て-
form. You will have to memorize these patterns.
て-form of い adjectives : い changes to くて
English Translation Plain (dictionary) form て-form
Cheap, inexpensive やすい やすくて

て-form of な adjectives: （な ）changes to で

2. Irregular Adjective Plain (dictionary) form て-form
good いい よくて
When listing two or more adjectives in one sentence you will have to conjugate at least one of
them into the て-form.
Let’s take a look at the example below:
ハンバーガー
は
やすくて
おいしい
です。
A hamburger is cheap (and) delicious
This sentence has 2 い-adjectives: やすい(cheap) and おいしい (delicious)
Notice that the 1st
adjective, やすい, has been conjugated to its て-form: やすくて
The 2nd
adjective, おいしい does not get conjugated.

You can of course use two different types of adjectives in one sentence.

G2. COUNTING THE NUMBER OF MONTHS
When you count the number of months it takes or took to do something, you will need to use the
counter for months, 〜かげつ
(〜ヶ月)

Note that the ヶ in the Kanji ヶ月 resembles a small version of the katakana ケ
However, it is NOT pronounced “ke”
It is a special counter kanji for the ichi-ni-san counting system and is read as "ka”
