FACTS : 
 Circle is the set of all points in a plane that are at a given distance from a given point ,the 
centre 
 The distance between any of the points and the centre is called the radius 
 The extent or measurement of a surface is the area 
 Area of circle having radius ‘r’ is ′ 휋푟2 ’ 
Learning Outcome 
The students will be able to, 
 recall the knowledge related to circles 
 recognize different geometrical figures 
 exemplify different situations for finding the relationship between sides and area of 
circle 
 compare the area of different dimensions of circle
 infer about the area of circle 
 develop interest in finding the area of circle 
 form appreciation about mathematical principles 
Prerequisites 
The students knows about, 
1. circle 
2. area of rectangle 
3. mathematical calculations

Classroom interaction procedure

Teacher presents a puzzle 
“I am a geometrical shape.I have only one side.I have no angle . I 
cover the maximum possible area for a given perimeter.Can you guess 
who am i? 
ACTIVITY-1 
Teacher classifies students into four groups and gives the model of 
circles and ask them to cut the circle into wedges 
Then she ask the students to arrange them so that the point of the 
wedges alternately up and down. 
Teacher asks the students whether the arrangement looks like any 
other shape you know? 
Presentation: 
Teacher gives another activity 
Students arranges the wedges as per the directions of the 
teacher. 
Students suggests the shape is unfamiliar

ACTIVITY-2 
Teacher ask the students to divide each wedge into four 
thinner wedges so that there are sixteen wedges in total and arrange 
the shape alternatively up and down and again ask the students if this 
shape looks like a shape they know 
Teacher says the students that when we cut the edges more thinner 
and arrange like this the shape resembles a rectangle. 
ACTIVITY-3 
Teacher asks the students about the dimensions of the rectangle that 
is formed. 
Teacher asks the students to find out the area of rectangle that is 
formed. 
If we have the radius we can find out the area of circle using the 
equation 퐴 = 휋푟2 
Teacher gives the note and shows the chart. 
AREA OF CIRCLE 
Area (A) of Circle having radius ‘r’ is 퐴 = 휋푟2,where π=3.14 
Application 
Find the area of circle having radius 4cm? 
What is to be found out? 
What is the equation for finding the area of circle? 
What is the value of ‘r’ given? 
Find the area? 
Students arranges the wedges 
The students suggest that the shape look like 
parallelogram 
From the circumference of the circle students find out 
that the length of the circle is equal to the half of the 
circumference of the circle ie,πr and the height of the 
rectangle is the radius ‘r’. 
Students finds the area as 퐴 = 휋푟2 
Area of circle 
Area 퐴 = 휋푟2 
r=4cm 
A=π*4*4
=16π 
=12.56

Follow Up Activities 
1) Find the area of the circle having diameter 18cm?

LESSON TEMPLATES NAME OF THE TEACHER: SALEENA.S PERIOD : NAME OF THE SCHOOL : TIME : STANDARD : 9 DATE : SUBJECT : MATHEMATICS STRENGTH : UNIT : CIRCLES AVERAGE AGE :14+ TOPIC : AREA OF CIRCLE CURRICULAR STATEMENTS The students knows that the area of circle having radius ‘r’푖푠 휋푟2 Content Analysis TERMS :Circle,Area FACTS :  Circle is the set of all points in a plane that are at a given distance from a given point ,the centre  The distance between any of the points and the centre is called the radius  The extent or measurement of a surface is the area  Area of circle having radius ‘r’ is ′ 휋푟2 ’ Learning Outcome The students will be able to,  recall the knowledge related to circles  recognize different geometrical figures  exemplify different situations for finding the relationship between sides and area of circle  compare the area of different dimensions of circle

  • 3. Classroom interaction procedure response introduction Teacher presents a puzzle “I am a geometrical shape.I have only one side.I have no angle . I cover the maximum possible area for a given perimeter.Can you guess who am i? ACTIVITY-1 Teacher classifies students into four groups and gives the model of circles and ask them to cut the circle into wedges Then she ask the students to arrange them so that the point of the wedges alternately up and down. Teacher asks the students whether the arrangement looks like any other shape you know? Presentation: Teacher gives another activity Students arranges the wedges as per the directions of the teacher. Students suggests the shape is unfamiliar Classroominteractionprocedure response

ACTIVITY-2 Teacher ask the students to divide each wedge into four thinner wedges so that there are sixteen wedges in total and arrange the shape alternatively up and down and again ask the students if this shape looks like a shape they know Teacher says the students that when we cut the edges more thinner and arrange like this the shape resembles a rectangle. ACTIVITY-3 Teacher asks the students about the dimensions of the rectangle that is formed. Teacher asks the students to find out the area of rectangle that is formed. If we have the radius we can find out the area of circle using the equation 퐴 = 휋푟2 Teacher gives the note and shows the chart. AREA OF CIRCLE Area (A) of Circle having radius ‘r’ is 퐴 = 휋푟2,where π=3.14 Application Find the area of circle having radius 4cm? What is to be found out? What is the equation for finding the area of circle? What is the value of ‘r’ given? Find the area? Students arranges the wedges The students suggest that the shape look like parallelogram From the circumference of the circle students find out that the length of the circle is equal to the half of the circumference of the circle ie,πr and the height of the rectangle is the radius ‘r’. Students finds the area as 퐴 = 휋푟2 Area of circle Area 퐴 = 휋푟2 r=4cm A=π*4*4
