CURRICULAR STATEMENT:
To understand about mental math and letter math by using equations with one variable and its importance in
mathematics through observation, discussion and by analyzing the prepared notes of the pupil
CONTENT ANALYSIS:
New terms : Problems of mental math & better math by using equations, pairs of equations.
Facts : Equation is a mathematical statement used to evaluate a value
Concept : Concept of solving equations
Process : Process of solving equations
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
The pupils will be able to:-
1. Recall the term equation.
2. Recognize problems on equations.
3. Identify the concept of solving equations.
4. Give illustration for equations.
5. Through familiar examples an unfamiliar situation is made clear
6. Discuss the problems of equations with other students
7. Ask questions to know more about equations
8. Enable students to do group activities
PRE-REQUISITES : Students have knowledge on equations solving equations of the from ax + b=c
TEACHING LEARNING RESOURCES : Usual class room aids, activity card.
LEARNING STRATEGIES : Group discussion, individual work, observation and explanation by the teacher
CLASSROOM INTERATION PROCEDURE EXPECTED PUPILS RESPONSE
INTRODUCTION
ACTIVITY - 1
(i) What is an equation?
(ii) What is the form of an equation?
By asking these questions the teacher
leads the students to the topic
PRESENTATION
ACTIVITY - 2
Teacher provides a problem. Three
books of the same price and a pen for five rupees
were bought for thirty five rupees. What is the
price of one book?
Teacher asks the pupils
What is to be find out?
What is given?
Teacher explains the method to solve it
Let x be the price of one book
3 x + 5 = 35
3 x = 35 - 5
x = 30/3 = 10
ACTIVITY – 3
Teacher divide pupil into groups and give
an activity card containing the problem “four
chairs of the same price and a table for 3150
rupees were bought for 4950 rupees. What is the
price of a chair?
Some pupil answer correctly
Almost all pupils responded actively.
Pupil understand and write down
All groups solved the problem correctly
ACTIVITY - 4
Teacher provides a problem “The perimeter
of a rectangle is 20 centimeters; and its length is 2
cm more than the breadth. What is the length of
each side?
Teacher asks pupils
What is to be find out?
What is given?
Let x be the breadth of the rectangle
What is the length?
Length = X + 2
Perimeter = 20 cm
2 ( l + b ) = 20
2 ( X + 2 + X ) = 20
2 ( 2X + 2 ) = 20
4X + 4 = 20
4X = 16
X = 4 cm
Breadth = 4 cm + length = 6 cm
CLOSURE
ACTIVITY –5
Teacher concludes the class by saying about
above problems.
REVIEW
ACTIVITY – 6
Teacher asks some questions about above
problems and equations.
FOLLOWING ACTIVITY
In a box there are black and white beads. The
number of black beads is eight more than the
number of white beads; and the total number of
beads is four times the number of white beads.
How many black and how many white beads are
there in the box?
Almost all pupil respond actively
Pupil says that length = X + 2
Pupil responds actively

LESSION PLAN NAME OF THE TEACHER : SHINY VARGHESE SUBJECT : MATHEMATICS UNIT : PAIRS OF EQUATIONS SUBUNIT : MENTAL MATH AND LETTER MATH NAME OF THE SCHOOL : MTGHSS STANDARD : IX I STRENGTH : 32/34 DATE : 24/09/2015 TIME : 40 mints CURRICULAR STATEMENT: To understand about mental math and letter math by using equations with one variable and its importance in mathematics through observation, discussion and by analyzing the prepared notes of the pupil CONTENT ANALYSIS: New terms : Problems of mental math & better math by using equations, pairs of equations. Facts : Equation is a mathematical statement used to evaluate a value Concept : Concept of solving equations Process : Process of solving equations LEARNING OUTCOMES: The pupils will be able to:- 1. Recall the term equation. 2. Recognize problems on equations. 3. Identify the concept of solving equations. 4. Give illustration for equations. 5. Through familiar examples an unfamiliar situation is made clear 6. Discuss the problems of equations with other students 7. Ask questions to know more about equations 8. Enable students to do group activities PRE-REQUISITES : Students have knowledge on equations solving equations of the from ax + b=c TEACHING LEARNING RESOURCES : Usual class room aids, activity card. LEARNING STRATEGIES : Group discussion, individual work, observation and explanation by the teacher
  • 2. CLASSROOM INTERATION PROCEDURE EXPECTED PUPILS RESPONSE INTRODUCTION ACTIVITY - 1 (i) What is an equation? (ii) What is the form of an equation? By asking these questions the teacher leads the students to the topic PRESENTATION ACTIVITY - 2 Teacher provides a problem. Three books of the same price and a pen for five rupees were bought for thirty five rupees. What is the price of one book? Teacher asks the pupils What is to be find out? What is given? Teacher explains the method to solve it Let x be the price of one book 3 x + 5 = 35 3 x = 35 - 5 x = 30/3 = 10 ACTIVITY – 3 Teacher divide pupil into groups and give an activity card containing the problem “four chairs of the same price and a table for 3150 rupees were bought for 4950 rupees. What is the price of a chair? Some pupil answer correctly Almost all pupils responded actively. Pupil understand and write down All groups solved the problem correctly
  • 3. ACTIVITY - 4 Teacher provides a problem “The perimeter of a rectangle is 20 centimeters; and its length is 2 cm more than the breadth. What is the length of each side? Teacher asks pupils What is to be find out? What is given? Let x be the breadth of the rectangle What is the length? Length = X + 2 Perimeter = 20 cm 2 ( l + b ) = 20 2 ( X + 2 + X ) = 20 2 ( 2X + 2 ) = 20 4X + 4 = 20 4X = 16 X = 4 cm Breadth = 4 cm + length = 6 cm CLOSURE ACTIVITY –5 Teacher concludes the class by saying about above problems. REVIEW ACTIVITY – 6 Teacher asks some questions about above problems and equations. FOLLOWING ACTIVITY In a box there are black and white beads. The number of black beads is eight more than the number of white beads; and the total number of beads is four times the number of white beads. How many black and how many white beads are there in the box? Almost all pupil respond actively Pupil says that length = X + 2 Pupil responds actively
