2. Christopher Marlowe s Dr. Faustus
Christopher Marlowe s Dr. Faustus Is Dr. Faustus Crazy or Sane?
Christopher Marlowe s play, Dr. Faustus, is the story of the struggle of one man
who is battling with himself over what he values most in life, and to what extent he
will go to obtain what he desires. The battles over the control of one s ego and what
a person values in their life are the two underlying struggles in this work. Faustus is a
very educated and high member of society, but he was born in a lower class and
has struggled all his life to be a wealthy person. He attains this opportunity to become
wealthy when he learns how to call upon Satan, and he makes a deal with the devil to
attain all the riches in life for his soul. Through out the play Faustus ... Show more

Then Faustus does repent, but the devil comes and is very angry with him, and he
begins to frighten Faustus for repenting to God. But Faustus begs for the devil to
forgive him and promises never to call upon the Lord or look unto heaven for help.
Nor will Faustus henceforth. Pardon him for this, and Fautus vows never to look to
heaven (II, ii, 101 102). This shows Faustus weak character, and that he is more
willing to attain worldly goods in the here and now, then to attain heavenly goods in
the after life.
This desire to have success and the low value in his soul allows the perfect
opportunity for Satan to bargain for his soul, and Mephostophilis, who must attract
as many souls as possible for Satan, works on his lack of self worth to attain his
soul. This exchange between Mephostophilis and Faustus is a match of wits and an
attempt to test the degree at which Faustus will follow Satan. When Mephostophilis
appears to Faustus after he has preformed the ritual to conjure up spirits, Faustus is
frightened. Yet there is a hint of pride that he was able to control the devil, which was
quickly erased by Mephostophilis. This devil played Faustus for information about
his desires, and kept getting him to talk without answering any of the questions that
he had about the arrangements of the deal. Mephostophilis would only give out the
answers Faustus wanted when the deal was completed. Mephostophilis won the battle
of wits because Faustus gave up all the
3. Comparing Franklin And Bartleby The Scrivener
What great qualities does a writer have to bring forth in order to become successful?
Benjamin Franklin and Herman Melville are both successful writers. Benjamin
Franklin wrote The Way to Wealth in 1758. Franklin was greatly recognized as a
Founding Father of our country. He was an important author, inventor, political
theorist, and much more. Franklin knew the way to wealthand he had exceptional
views and provided different viewpoints on society and politics. Herman Melville on
the other hand was a true letter writer, American novelist, short story writer, and a
poet. Melville story Bartleby the Scrivener was a short story that he had written for a
magazine. In this essay I will be discussing the differences and similarities throughout

In the story The Way to Wealth by Benjamin Franklin, Franklin believed strongly in
hard work and thought that all men should work hard to flourish. Another
connection between the two characters in the two stories is that they both happened
to be hard workers. In The way to Wealth Poor Richard was a fictional character
who wrote useful advice in the book Poor Richard s Almanac . He says that while
laziness travels so slowly, that poverty soon overtakes him (Franklin, pg.2). In this
quote Poor Richard is stating how he ridicules laziness and sloth, Richard is a
hardworking man with knowledge. In contrast to that in the story Bartleby ,
Bartleby is a discreet, anti social little man. Bartleby works well, and is always in
the office working hard. As stated in the story At first Bartleby did an extraordinary
quantity of writing (Melville, pg.11).This quote to me shows that Bartleby was not a
lazy man. The lawyer hired him, because he seen the hard work that Bartleby
possessed, stating that he was the strongest scrivener that he had ever learned of or
4. Mindfulness Meditation On False Memory
The second stated long term meditators would show superior performance to short
term meditators . And the third stated concentrative meditators would be more
subject to expectancy effects...mindfulness meditators would show superior
performance relative to concentrative meditators when the stimulus was unexpected
(Valentine Sweet, 1999, p. 63). Using the Wilkins Counting Test (a measure of
sustained focused attention) the control group was placed in a classroom to perform
the test while the meditationgroups were tested post meditation sessions in a separate
room. The test was comprised of a series of tones which each group was asked to
count (the meditation groups were told there would be three rather than two sets).
The results confirmed the three hypotheses, overall concurring the use of meditation
leads to improved concentration with little difference between concentrative and
mindfulness meditation (Valentine Sweets, 1999). Through the importance of
meditation, holding strong positive results with attention, the working memory, and
concentration there was one more study brought up explaining the effects of
mindfulness meditation on false memory susceptibility. Wilson, Mickes, Stolarz
Fantino, Evrard Fantino (2014) conducted three experiments on the effect of
mindfulness meditation on false memory susceptibility predicting that participants in
the mindfulness condition would be especially likely to form false memories
(Wilson et al., 2014, p. 1567). The first
5. Elements Of A True War Story
A true war story is rather difficult, if not impossible, to share when it goes beyond
one s imagination. Regarding such a story, one morally sound aspect about it is that
it lacks morality or meaning to it. Extracting facts from a true war story is a
daunting task because what seems to happen is what actually occurs. In what is to
follow, I will tell one awful true warstory. The story begins on Tha Ke Island during
a war hiatus. To Bunk and Trench, this is a desperately needed time to get away
from the war. American soldiers stayed at the base camp to play board games. Bunk
and Trench goofed around, but they were just kids. They didn t know about the
dangers of the war. The silly game they played involved pretending to be soldiers.

6. Essay On Middle Class Economy
The United States is currently in a period of Contraction, where an economic stimulus
is necessary, specifically designed and with a purpose to prop up and encourage
economic growth for the middle class. The middle class continues to struggle to
maintain its foothold in this current economic environment. The middle classis/has
been the backbone of this economy since its creation , but has continually been
exploited with over taxation, less tax breaks, and no real wage protections to name a
few. The gap between the wealthy and middle class continues to increase further and
further apart from each other, causing the middle class to decline. Wages are not

This also includes purchases by public colleges and universities. An increase in
government spending increases income which increases consumption. This is the
multiplied affect. This would help create the influx of capital needed for businesses
to become profitable, whether these businesses are privately owned or corporate
owned. Changes in Business Taxes is an amount that businesses are allowed by law
to deduct from their taxes, reflecting an amount they reinvest in themselves. An
Investment tax credits are structured to reward and encourage economic growth. An
increase of these tax credits or a reduction in corporate taxes would mean more cash
to use for investments or wages, strengthening the economic position of the middle
class (working class). Changes in Income Taxes is a tax levied by a government
directly on income, especially an annual tax on personal income. Income taxes effects
the consumption component of the aggregate demand. An increase in taxes will
reduce personal income and reduce thereby reducing consumption or spending power.
By reducing personal taxes, this would help the middle class save more for future use
and spend more, which in turn will continue to help stimulate the

#1 eBay Selling
The first way to make more money online is to sell items on the site eBay. eBay is
an online auction and shopping website that allows you to sell your own household
items online for a profit or buy a product from the site and then resell it for a greater
profit. It is probably the biggest and most popular of this type of websites throughout
the entire Internet. A good aspect of this money making plan is that it is easy to sell
products on the site.
There are some cons associated with this way of earning though. Such as the fees
correlated with the selling a product, there is more than one. Another issue is that it
is not easy and a lot of work for sometimes less than satisfactory outcome. Along with
all this it can be quite difficult to determine the right niche for your products in order
to beat the heavy competition involved with whatever it might be. All that said, there
is money to be made.

9. Richard Branson Leadership
Richard Branson
Richard Branson was born in England in 1950. Since a little kid, he was
encouraged to be independent accomplishing challenges set by his mother at short
age. Branson saw this as opportunities to overcome weaknesses and conquer a small
part of the world . He was not a good student, for he was struggling at school due to
dyslexia, and ended up dropping from school at age of 16. It was the beginning of an
entrepreneurial career. At that time he founded a Magazine called Student with great
success. Then he diversified to mail order record business. He founded Virgin
Records in London, England, and started, entrepreneurial projects, expanding his
business into other sectors. Virgin Groupholds more than 200 companies, ... Show

Richard Branson promotes inside his company open communication between
employees, managers and himself. Anyone in the company knows they can call him
to share with him innovative ideas or suggestions.
Inside the company communications are promoted between the different areas. At
the time when the company is developing a new project they promote a team of
different departments working together to have the better outcome of the project. As
the company involves employees in product development, the result will be not only
in a better product design, but also it adds impetus of an immense pride of
association factor: We came up with this as a team. Everyone wins, including
customers and shareholders.
Position as Manager in Virgin
As a manager I prefer flat structures where employees have a sense of ownership
and freedom to be creative, express ideas and be proactive. Some characteristic of
Richard Branson s leadership style I admire is the open communication between
the employees and the directives, the possibility to work as a team with employees
from other departments to solve problems and improve products and the possibility
to allow workers to share their visions to develop innovations. For a manager to be
able to fit under this type of leadership, he or she has to be flexible and willing
10. Argumentative Essay On Nuclear Power
Providing nearly two thirds of America s energy, nuclear power is stated to be the
cleanest, most reliable sources of energy known to man. Nuclear power, although a
high maintenance system, has many beneficial characteristics that help support the
idea that nuclear energy has the capability of supporting Earth s future generations
with power. Nuclear poweris a healthier alternative to the environment as it produces
no greenhouse gases and uses no nonrenewable resources to produce its power.
Although there are many benefits to nuclear energy, the power plants of which the
power is produced in must be run in an orderly function with consequences of
mistreatment leading to disastrous situations with the potential affecting many.
Despite the fact mishandling nuclear power can lead to catastrophe, nuclear power
has many benefits on the environment due to the idea fact that nuclear power does
not create any greenhouse gases, and uses no nonrenewable resources to create its
energy.
Nuclear energy can be a brilliant alternative to nonrenewable resources however, it
can lead to a disaster of epic proportions when something goes wrong. Nuclear
energy relies largely on human interactions within the plant, which has been proven
to lead to complications with drastic consequences. In 1986 the world s largest
nuclear power incident took place at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant as the result
of a flawed reactor design that was operated with inadequately trained personnel. (

11. Book Of Esther
One woman that particularly stands out is Esther; who is a brave, intelligent and
unique, young girl who risks her life to save her people from annihilation by a
spiteful and selfish Haman, who has a personal agenda. The Bible demonstrates
how Esther evolves from an ordinary submissive young girl to an influential queen
who changed the destiny of the Jewish people. After Esther becomes queen, the king
makes a law that everyone must bow down to Haman, but Mordecai did not bow
down to him. When Mordecai disobeys the law, Haman plots to kill all the Jews,
including Esther, due to his vendetta against Mordecai. Instead of turning to God,
Mordecai turns to Esther to approach the King and beg him for mercy for the Jews.

Goswell, he explains that the biblical author of Esther intentionally has no mention
of God and the logic of keeping God out of the book of Esther. In the article,
Goswell reveals some factors where the author could have included God, but the
author deliberately excludes him to convince the reader that it is a strategic move
by the author to reveal the character of Esther. For example, the author could have
mentioned God, when Mordecai tells Esther that assistance will come from
somewhere else, but the biblical author chooses not to. In this text, many
commentators interpret it as a reference to God, but the biblical author goes
through great lengths to exclude God and point out that Esther is the only one who
can deliver the Jews. As Goswell states The key verse suggests that God s control
of events, while assumed, probably is not stated precisely so that the roles of
Mordecai, Esther, and the other Jews might take centre stage (103). The biblical
author takes the attention away from God and focuses on Esther pointing out her
unique position and essential role. Goswell argues that it is critical to understand
why the author excludes God and if we do, we will see the function in the narrative
and give focus to the heroine of the story. All the books in the Old Testamentare
either named after a theme or after a main character in the novels; because in the
ancient times, it indicated how the story was read and

Information systems interacts with the organizations and influences the organization

Information systems can enabled strategies in four aspects including low cost

Low cost leadership means offer the lowest price to customers and operate the

One piece of artwork that I did that has all the seven elements of art was my animal
watercolor painting. The seven elements of art are line, shape, color, value, form ,
texture, and space. Somethings that these elements help with are make the
artwork more realistic. It can also help how realistic the details are and how it
looks three dimensional. The first element I used was line. Line helps you make a
outline of what you are trying to make. Line is the edges of a figure and it can be
made with a pen or pencil. A line can help how realistic you artwork can look. If you
make a line that is behind you figure at a certain angle it can make the shape seem
real. Line is very important to a drawing because it can show a lot of detail. Another
element that can help a piece of artwork is shape. Shape is a area enclosed by... Show

Texture can also help your artwork feel more realistic. I used texture in my
watercolor by painting little hairs on the wolf s body to show how it might feel. It
might feel like a furry rug or soft hair. Texture can help with your artwork because it
can help the viewer imagine the object in their mind. The final element is space.
Space can help show where the object is and you can also tell the setting from the
space around it. Space can also help your artwork because it can give detail about the
story behind of the artwork. In my watercolor painting the the space I used was to
show the the wolf was all by itself. It also shows how the land is barren and their is
nothing on it.
The Seven Elements of Art can help your pieces of artwork. Some examples of
elements that can help are texture. Texture can help by helping the viewer imagine
how the object feels. Another element that can help us form. Form can help your
drawing feel more three dimensional. All the seven elements help your artwork feel

The Adverse Childhood Experiences study, also known as ACE s, was a huge
breakthrough for preventative health care research. The partnership of Kaiser
Permanente and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
produced one of the largest studies ever conducted to explore associations between
childhood maltreatment (chronic and toxic stress from early adversity) and health
and well being throughout the lifespan. The study involves the data from over
17,000 participants collected from 1995 to 1997 (Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention). Although the study s main findings were aimed at influencing the
health care system, there remains a multitude of important implications for the
treatment of trauma and how yoga may be an integral part of that care. Adverse
Childhood Experiences are described as traumatic or stressful events that occur
under the age of 18 years. Multiple categories of childhood emotional and physical
abuse were considered including Abuse, Neglect, and Household Dysfunction, each
with respective subsets of criteria. A questionnaire is used to determine a person s
ACE Score. Depending on how many questions they answer indicating that
childhood trauma was present, a numerical figure is used as an index for their score
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). This score is useful for ranking them
and their susceptibility to later problems in life due to childhood adversity . The

of high speed rail in California started in early 1980s, a 130 mile bullet train project

difficulties ultimately led the American High Speed Rail Corporation s (AHSRC)

long distance trips typically of over 200 miles, and a second for intraregional or
commuting trips of less than 100 miles. According to Charles River Association in
2020 the full CHSRA system would capture 32 million interregional train trips.
The total ridership would thus just exceed 42 million trips annually, based on a
two tier fare system designed to discriminate between business and non business
travelers, with train tickets priced competitively at 50 % of the comparable airfare
for each class. The revised business plan issued in 2009 used the same CSI
methodology but tested slightly higher fares. That plan estimated that train fares
set at 83 % of airfare would generate the greatest operating profit. At 83 % it can
attract just over 40 million annual passengers whereas at 50 % it would attract 54
million. Actions were required in the field of financial funds and revenue of the

Figuring out who you are and what you want to be is a struggle everyone goes
through. 10 Things I Hate about You is a modern interpretation of the story Taming
of The Shrew By William Shakespeare. In the play, The Taming of the Shrew and the
movie, 10 things I hate about You show how societal pressures and deception overall
shape people s identities.
In both mediums, the outliers of society conform for acceptance in others. In The

But that our soft conditions and our hearts should well agree with our external parts?

perspectives on whether the popular animated show The Simpsons depicts

that the signature satirical style of the show is actually a strategy to please the
widest audience, whether religious or not presenting equal opportunity satire. Their
unapologetic and unabashed way of making fun of anything and everything is what
has allowed the show to continue for so many seasons and also allow the viewer to

On one hand, Christians would see the fact that the Simpson home burned and that

using easily explained natural phenomena to reinforce their biases and confirmation
bias when Homer reinforces his belief in God by being saved by Flanders

21. Isaac Newton Contributions
Sir Isaac Newton was an English mathematician and physicist, considered one of the
greatest scientists in history. He made important contributions to many fields of
science. His discoveries and theories laid the foundation for much of the progress in
science. Newton was one of the inventors of a mathematics called calculus. He also
solved the mysteries of light and optics, formulated the three laws of motion, and
derived from them the law of universal gravitation. Newton was born on December
25, 1642, at Woolsthorpe, near Grantham in Lincolnshire. When he was three years
old, he was put in care of his Grandmother. He then was sent to grammar school in
Grantham. Then later he attended Trinity College at the University of Cambridge.
Newton ignored much of the established curriculum of the university to pursue his
own interests; mathematics and natural philosophy. Proceeding entirely on his own,
he investigated the latest developments in mathematics and the new natural
philosophy that treated nature as a complicated machine. Almost immediately, still
under the age of 25, he made fundamental discoveries that were instrumental in his
career science. The Fluxional Method, Newton s first achievement was in
mathematics. He generalized the methods that were being used to draw tangents to
curves and to calculate the area swept by curves. He recognized that the two
procedures were inverse operations. By joining them in what he called the fluxional
method,
22. Narrative Essay About Going To The Beach
It was finally summer vacation and my family and I decided to go to the beach as
soon as the last day of school ended. While I sat in my seat in class, the anticipation
of going to the beach kept me from concentrating, all I saw was the teacher s
familiar mouth formations, speaking to the class about some Post World War Two
battle involving a conspiracy about Hitler and the Nazi regime in the classroom. I
sat there, in the tan metal chair attached to the wooden desk next to the wall,
waiting. Time passed by and my excitement increased as I rushed out of the room,
down the dim hallway, past the office out the glass, front doors to see my family
parked in the teeming parking lot. As soon as I got into the car, my dad hit the gas
pedal and we were off to our beloved destination. Hours passed and we neared the
beach, and I could see the ocean and the grainy sand. We were almost there and I
could not contain my enthusiasm. I was as excited as a kid on Christmas morning!
We got to the parking lot and I could see the towering building above me awaiting
my presence. I leaped out of the car with my items and headed straight to the glass
doors. I sped up the stairs, to the third floor, down the hallway, to the sixth door on
the right. I dropped my stuff off into the room and went straight outside and out to
the beach because I could not wait any longer. Wow. I said as I stuck my feet in the
scorching sand and felt the heat pass in between my toes as I walked across the
beach. I
23. How The Blood Type Of Blood
Abstract During this lab, students will learn how to perform a process as if it was
a real blood test. Working with four different synthetic blood samples, they will use
synthetic antisera to the A, B, and Rh antigens on red blood cells. Students are able
to identify the blood type of each blood sample and how the bloodtype is determined.
Introduction The blood is a very important fluid of our body that has many
different ways that keep us healthy. It transports important nutrients and oxygen to
our cells and acts in the process of removing wastes and carbon dioxide from the
body.( American Society of Hematology . n.d.) Also, this specialized fluid helps in
defending the body by forming blood clots as a result of a wounded blood vessel
and carrying various cells that are crucial to our health. An average human body s
weight is made of seven to eight percent blood.( American Society of Hematology .
n.d.) The blood is made of different components that perform different actions. It is
made of 55 percent plasma and 45 percent cells. ( American Society of Hematology
. n.d.) The blood is liquidy due to the presence of plasma. It is composed of water,
proteins, fats, and salts. The plasma is crucial in transporting the blood cells and
bring waste products to be removed from the body to the kidney and liver. (
American Society of Hematology . n.d.) The blood cells are main components of the
blood and have distinct purposes. Red blood cells, also known as erythrocytes, are the

Direct Market is occurs when a customers is first exposed to a goods or service
through a non personal medium. It comprises of a direct connections with targeted
individual consumers that is aimed at obtaining an immediate response and fostering
lasting customer relationships. Direct marketing can be in the form of telephone
marketing, direct mail, catalogs, kiosks, internet, and mobile marketing. These
developments provides unique opportunities for marketers as well as challenges
hence firms have to be current and continuously updating their strategies to meet the
demand of consumers.

It may be difficult to gain individual customers data, direct marketing is effective only
when all information about the individual customer is available. It may be difficult to
obtain this data for the data based retailing system, as some consumers are unwilling
to disclose personal information due to illegal activities such as credit scamming and
identity theft. Not being able to obtain adequate information on customers purchasing

25. Differences In The Iliad
We live in an imperfect world, a world wherein differences are present, and these
differences are the reasons why we won t have a perfect world. Differences are
what keep us apart. Differences are why conflicts are created. When two opposing
ideas meet, disagreement occurs and therefore, conflicts happen. This is present in
our everyday lives; it can be found in homes, in workplaces, outside of those, and in
our society. Differences are crucial in the decision of one event. Once differences
take control, conflicts arise, and these decisions we make will be the factor of what
will happen to a family, or a nation. Differences emerged when Agamemnon decided
not to let go of his precious prize, Khryseis, even though there was an appropriate
ransom in return. This is shown in the following lines, Behave well to... Show more

And take the ransom! / But Agamemnon would not. It was against his desire, (Book
One, 28 29). This idea would be the trigger of the conflict that happened in the Iliad,
as simple as it might be. It is reasonable for him to keep his prize; however, this did
not bode well for him. This idea would actually be the cause of a tragic event that
would happen in his camp. In lines 108 117, it is narrated that Agamemnon must
return his prize, without anything in return, and because this is different from the
idea of Agamemnon, a conflict arose. The solution of Agamemnon: taking another
prize from another man. Unfortunately for Akhilleus, he was on the receiving end of
Agamemnon s rage and anger. This caused Akhilleus to go over his limits, and fight
back against Agamemnon. This is where we see differences emerging and causing
conflicts, and in conflicts, there are different ways to resolve them. It all depends

Pattern generating circuits coupled to production of organic material with inorganic
interfaces allow bacterial colonies to generate composite structures with unique
function.
Mother Nature generates sophisticated and complicated structures from the humblest
of ingredients. Often their construction relies on the self assembly of building blocks
resulting in hybrid structures that combine both organic and inorganic materials. For
example, Shewanella bacteria are capable of forming extracellular networks of arsenic
sulfide nanotubes with unique electrical and photoconductive properties1. Our ability

Cao, et al2 take advantage of an existing circuit capable of generating spatial
patterning in two dimensional populations of bacteria6 to pattern production of a
modified curli protein in colonies of E. coli. Curli is an extracellular amyloid
material produced by E. coli that forms fibrils based on self assembly of the major
secreted curli subunit (CsgA) and an additional subunit CsgB. The authors utilize
the circuit described in Payne, et al (which consists of a positive feedback loop
(mutant T7 RNA polymerase T7RNAP activates its own expression) and a negative
feedback loop based on production of a diffusible quorum sensing molecule AHL
(see Figure 1). . Expression of the curli protein occurs at high levels of the quorum
sensing molecule AHL. By engineering curli to contain a polyhistidine tag (6XHis) it
can be interfaced with inorganic materials, for example, gold nanoparticles
conjugated to Ni Nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA).
Cao et al use ink jet printing to print cells onto membranes to form single colonies of
E. coli containing this synthetic curli producing circuit. They found that the spatial
patterning circuit caused curli to be expressed in the exterior of the colony, forming
domed curli structures. In contrast, cells constitutively expressing curli without the

27. Comparison Of White Upper Class Male And Female
In early 1800s society, there was an Unequal power relation between male and female
. Men were traditionally seen as being the dominant, physically stronger and socially
more powerful in terms of status: traditional masculinity is a strength, rationality,
stoicism and self reliance . Women s position in society and within their homes was
portrayed as subservient, obedient to their fathers, brothers and malerelatives and their
husbands throughout their lives.
Fagin: stereotypical man
Fagin s power lies within him being the elite in a criminal group; his masculine
qualities position in an area of great and dangerous power . White upper class
males are seen as being the far more superior group then the lower social class.
Whereas it could be argued that A masculine gendering is supposed to evoke
positive connotation , the men s in Oliver Twist are most typically linked to
violence. The greed of Fagin is shown when he says if you do it well, a pound my
dear this gives a reflection of his character in the story. His portrayed as being
arrogant as he uses children for his own good as they are seen to steal money for
him. His arrogant side is shown through his treatment of the children what s your

Sir Luke Fildes, a renowned painter of the late Victorian age, completed an oil
painting titled The Doctor, in 18871. It captures in a glimpse the socio historical
milieu which shaped the identity of the General Practitioner in Victorian England
since the 1840s. The painting shows a doctor attending the sickbed of a poor child.
Though a candle is burning still, a natural light also comes in, suggesting that it is
now dawn, and the child has survived the night. The doctors figure represents a calm
and soothing heroism at the face of death. He has spent, it seems, a sleepless night,
nursing the sick child.
The painting not only depicts a positive and humanitarian image of the Victorian
General Practitioner, but also conforms to the close

Introduction:
According to Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), there are many
factors that will affect the direction of emergency management in the coming years.
These can be classified as global challenges, global opportunities, national challenges,
national opportunities, professional challenges, and professional opportunities.
Global Challenges include some issues like global climate change, increasing
population and population density, increasing resource scarcities, rising income
inequality, and increasing risk aversion. Global Opportunities has to do with
increased scientific understanding of the hazards and societal responses, as well as
revolutionary technologies. National Challenges involves increasing urbanization and
hazard exposure, interdependencies in infrastructure, continued emphasis on growth,
rising costs of disaster recovery, increasing population diversity, terrorist threats, low
priority of emergency management, legal liability, and intergovernmental tensions.
Due to these factors that will affect the direction of emergency management in the
coming years, there is need for us at emergency management division to adjust
operational plans to meet these challenges and especially changes emanating from
constant changes expected in technology and other threats we face.
Threats we currently face in our county and the new threats (manmade and natural) I

35. Holocaust And Nannk Analysis
The Annihilation of a Nation: Holocaust Vs Rape and Nanking
In the span of six weeks 300,000 to 600,000 civilians of Nanjing, China were
murdered and/or raped( The rape of Nanking 1937 1938 1). The Holocaust had 9
million victims. There are many similarities and differences between the Holocaust
and Rape and Nanjing. Both the Holocaust and Rape and Nanking are genocides. A
genocide is the deliberate killing of a large group of people, especially those of a
particular ethnic group or nation.
What are the similarities and differences between the two genocides? The Holocaust
started on January 30th of 1933 and lasted till May 8th of 1945. The Holocaust took
place in mostly Germany but Europe, Poland, and Austria had their place too. Hitler
blamed the Jews for the great depression causing the hatred of their race and religion.
While the Holocaust took place, another genocide quickly took place. On December
13th, 1937 the Rape and Nanjing took place in Nanjing, China and ended in 6 weeks(
The Tokyo judgement and the rape of nanking 1). 300,000 to 600,000 civilians were

36. A Review On Thing Net Works
In numerous genuine applications, other than the input and thing content data, there
may exist relations (or systems) among the things which can likewise be useful for
proposal. For instance, in the event that we need to prescribe papers (references) to
clients in Cite ULike, the reference relations between papers are useful for suggesting
papers with comparable subjects. Different case of thingnet works can be found in
hyperlinks among site pages, motion pictures coordinated by the same executives, et
cetera. In this paper, we build up a novel progressive Bayesian model, called
Relational Collaborative Topic Regression (RCTR), to join thing relations for
suggestion. The principle commitments of RCTR are laid out.
II. Foundation: In this area, we give a brief presentation about the back ground of
RCTR, including CF based suggestion, network factorization (MF) (likewise called
inactive component model) based CF strategies and CTR. A.CF Based
Recommendation Collaborative theme relapse is proposed to prescribe records

by MF based CF. By joining MF and inactive Dirichlet distribution (LDA), CTR
accomplishes preferable expectation execution over MF based CF with better
interpretable results. In addition, with the thing content data, CTR can anticipate
input for out of grid things. The graphical model of CTR is
37. Essay on The Importance of Wind Turbines for Renewable
Energy
The American inventor Charles F. Brush invented the first automatically operated
wind turbine in 1887. [1] Since then, multiple developments have contributed to the
design of today s modern wind turbine. And when grouped together into a wind farm,
wind turbines are becoming an important source of renewable energy.
HAWT blades are designed like airplane wings in order to use lift to capture the wind
s energy. The airfoildesign that they use makes one surface of the blade rounded,
while the other is smooth and flat. [3] When air passes through the blades, a
difference in pressure is created between the top and bottom of the blade. The
introduction of the blade into airflow acts like an introduction of a force and causes

The main purpose of the gearbox is to increase the rotational speed of the blades to
the generator. In order for the electrical generator to perform efficiently and
effectively, the input speed must be very fast. The blades are not able to turn fast
enough due to the centrifugal strain of high speeds. [6] The gearbox uses multiple
gears and gear trains in order to provide speed and torque conversions that are
necessary. These conversions are dependent on the gear ratio of the gearbox.
Most of the mechanical energy that is produced by the rotating blades is transformed
into electrical energy via the generator. The generator, through the process of
electromagnetic induction, produces an electrical voltage that will cause a current to
flow out of the generator. As the rotor spins the shaft, the shaft spins the coil of wire
held within the generator. The coil is surrounded by an assembly of permanent
magnets that produce a voltage when the coil is spun inside of them. [7] This voltage
is what drives the electrical current through the power lines for distribution.
The yaw controller is responsible for controlling the angle between the rotor and
direction of wind (yaw angle). Varying wind direction becomes an issue for the
power generating abilities of turbines. In order for the turbine to produce the most
power, the turbine s horizontal axis must be parallel to the wind direction. The yaw
controller is able to turn the
38. Research On Dry Sponges
In the experiment the first step would be creating a null hypothesis that allowed
for any observed differences which could be caused by sampling or experimental
error. A total of 66 isopods were used among the three trials conducted. The average
dimensions of the sponges used was 5cm in length, 3cm in width, and 1cm in
height. Using a 3 ml transfer pipette to moisten two of the sponges. Adding water
to one side of each sponge and adding water to the other side in 3mL quantities.
This would give us a total of 6 milliliters that the sponges absorbed. By taking the
average dimensions of the 2 damp sponges they came out to be 5.75cm in length,
3.4cm in width, and 1.1 in height. Before you can start the next process make sure

For the first experiment the graphs depicted exclude the outliers from being
represented in the results (Figure 1). The outliers were also excluded from the chi
square analysis. There was a significant drop in isopods that went under the dry
sponge. In the chi square analysis, the X^2 value is 41.18. The Degrees of freedom
value is 3 and the P value is 0.3285. Figure 1: This graph shows the percentage of
isopods that preferred wet or dry sponges across 3 trials. The relationship displayed
showed a favoring of the wet environment. The Chi square equation was used to for
the purpose of understanding the statistical data behind the research. There was no
definitive conclusion that there is a difference in speed that would correlate to the
size of the isopod. For the next portion of the experiment a T test for the speed vs
size was conducted. The important numbers and variables are as follows: The
degrees of freedom was 28. The T stat value is 0.9944. The T critical two tail
number was 2.048. The P value two tails came out to 0.3285. The P value is less
than 0.05 so it is not significant. This is due to random chance. The T stat value is
smaller than the t critical for the two tailed test so in this situation we would accept
the null

When we have the first serious crop failure, which will happen, says farm
commodity expert Don Coxe, we will then have a full blown food crisis one far
worse than 2008.
Coxe has studied the sector for more than 35 years as a strategist for BMO Financial
Group. He says it didn t have to come to this. We ve got a situation where there has
been no incentive to allocate significant new capital to agriculture or to develop new
technologies to dramatically expand crop output.
We ve got complacency, he sums up. So for those reasons, I believe the next food
crisis when it comes will be a bigger shock than $150 oil.
A recent report from HSBC isn t quite so alarming...unless you read between the lines.
World agricultural markets, it says, have become so finely balanced between supply
and demand that local disruptions can have a major impact on the global prices of the
affected commodities and then reverberate throughout the entire food chain.
That was the story in 2008. It s becoming the story again now. It may go away in a
few weeks or a few months. But it won t go away for good. It ll keep coming
40. back...for decades.
There s nothing you or I can do to change it. So we might as well hedge our rising
food costs by investing in the very commodities whose prices

Life Among the Fish
I dropped my air tank on the deck of the boat, creating a deep hollow sound
throughout the air. The tank lay on the rough floor teetering from side to side until
finally resting against the waistband. I gazed at it for a moment lost in its sleek
wetness while water poured down my back. What are you looking at? Help me with
my tank! my sister Tawnya yelled from the sternof the boat. She was half way up the
ladder with her tank slowly slipping off her back. My dad was the last one up the
ladder. Dropping his tank, he let out the noise he always makes when he gets through
something of a feat, a loud noise that sounds as though a train were going through the
center of the boat. That day in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
My dad found the perfect spot just before lunch. We threw anchor and suited up.
It was the first time scuba diving for my sister and I and we were both excitedly
nervous, like right before you go off the drop of a roller coaster. The water was warm
enough to where didn t need wetsuits, just a tank, mask and flippers. My dad helped
us into our vests and tank and showed us how to inflate and deflate them. He assured
us we were not going very deep so there was nothing to worry about. My sister was
the first one in the water, dad told her she was all ready and without hesitation she
jumped right in. She had never been afraid of anything, and was always the first
person I went too if I was scared. I was cautious and afraid of almost everything. Dad
helped me into my gear. Everything was four sizes too big, since they do not make
scuba gear for eight year olds. Dad asked if I was ready and as I began to shake my
head no he picked me up by my hands, and lowered me slowly into the water. Crying,
I swam a direct line to Tawnya in hopes that she could make the fear I had of the
massive body of water I was now in, go away. It helped a little. Tawnya and I bobbed
around for a bit until dad jumped in creating the biggest splash I had ever seen. Dad
checked us one more time, and down we went into a whole new world.
I had never seen anything like it. In front of us was a wall

In the story The Sniper by Liam O Flaherty it was a short story of how war is to be
considered extremely serious, and its nothing to joke about or play around with.
The sniper in the story, accidentally gave away his location when he decided to
light up his cigarette, and the funny thing is he exposes himself to the enemy. The
other sniper on the opposite side was able to see him. The two snipers both sides
then come face to face to each other. Surprisingly, one of the sniper pulls out a
brilliant plan and he successfully shoots out a deadly bullet to the enemy sniper.
After the line of life and death, the sniper than decided to go and identify the enemy
who he shot down and killed. He than approached the body really slowly, than turns
43. Essay on Gene Therapy and Its Effect on Cancer
Gene Therapy and Its Effect on Cancer
The era of scientific advancement in the twentieth century has encouraged several
scientific fields to merge into a new, futuristic science called Biotechnology. One idea
behind Biotechnical science is taking advantage of molecular biology. At the
forefront of this advancement is gene therapy which attempts to treat disease at its
origin on the molecular level (Kreeger,1996). Essentially, this therapy deliberately
introduces genes into the human cells to compensate for aberrant genes that cause
genetic disease (Beese, 1996). This therapy can be administered in two ways. One is
germ line therapy which not only treats the cells of that individual but these treated
cells could be passed onto ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Either way, genes do play a role in cancer and viable ways to effect the problem
genes and stop cellular growth are needed.
Effective approaches to treat cancer include surgery, radiation and chemotherapy.
Surgery is very effective in the early stages of the disease but there is a risk that all
of the infected cells weren t removed or the cancer may come back. Radiation can
also be very effective but the side affects can be very harsh for the patient. Along
with this, normal cells of the body have the potential to be altered by the treatment
process and cause an entirely new set of difficulties. Though chemotherapy has been
successful in many cases, there is a fear that like bacteria, the cancer cells can
become resistant to these drugs (National Medical Center,1996). It seems clear that
somatic cell gene therapy could be a viable treatment for those people who have had
little success from the other treatments or possibly prevent the cancer from returning.
One type of somatic cell therapy is taking advantage of a cell already found in the
body called TIL or tumor infiltrating lymphocytes that come from other parts of the
body to combat bacterial infections and have the ability to attack and destroy cancer
tissue in the same manner. These lymphocytes are taken from the body and inserted
with a lab synthesized gene that produces TNF. TNF or tumor necrosis
44. Sociological Autobiography
As a first year sociology student, my sociological file is minute and
underdeveloped. I have my interests and research questions when it comes to
sociology because of my inexperience. With the Persian heritage I obtain, I have an
interest in how society reacts to those of Middle Eastern ancestry in public. I am a
third generation immigrant from the Middle Eastand issues often prevail themselves.
These issues are not as frequently as they come to some people, but I have
definitely had my experience with injustice. Since the somewhat recent terrorist
actions committed by those from Muslims in the Middle East, social encounters of
the oppressed with the oppressors have not only been awkward but reprehensible.
Because of my other European heritage, I do not experience the abhorrent situations
directly, however, when with my family I often observe the looks and actions given
towards them. Why do people generalize a whole race because of a a few incidents

After the attacks in 2001 especially, Muslims and people from the Middle East
were talked about in an unkindly manner and treated as if they were all involved in
the terrorist attacks. How would Americans feel if we were all treated as murders or
terrorists in response to the criminals that have come from America? It obviously
would not be tolerated under any circumstances. So who are we to frisk every person
that looks even remotely Middle Eastern at the airport? What will come of this?
Because of their countries safety and the opportunities in The United States, Muslims
and Middle Easterners are not going to leave America even though they are
constantly being oppressed. Eventually, to solve this discrimination, Muslims and
Middle Easterners will be changing their names to sound more American and start
physically conforming to American society to hide the culture that is so important to
45. Media s Influence On Society
Media plays an important and influential role in society. The media effects so
many different institutions throughout a society that researchers have began to
wonder how the media is really effecting these processes. Over the years many
models have been developed to explain this process. The models that I will look at,
include the hypodermic model, the mass society theory, the minimal effects
model, and the agenda setting and priming model. Before looking at these models,
we must first look at some of the challenges researchers ran into while trying to
understand the media effect. Many researchers believed that media had influence
on the public, but did not change or have an effect on what the public believed in.
However this was false statement, This idea contrasted sharply with the public s
general perception that media play a very influential role in society. There are three
major reasons for this gap in perceptions (Graber 2009a). The first reason for this
misperception was because of how narrow researchers looked at the effects on media
issues. An example of this is when researchers looked at voters and whether certain
media exposure would alter their vote. They concluded that there was no media
influence, but the catch was that these studies were conducted during a time when
party loyalty was very strong. This would be an important factor in the reasons why
media did not influence the publics vote. To gain a better understanding researchers
should have,

History of colonialism and the failure of the Somali state:
The African Continent has been the place that is known as a mystery for the
Europeans. Despite of the fact Europeans knew little about the mainland, its people,
traditions, conventions, but a considerable measure of them were profoundly
inquisitive about the landmass, and most importantly its natural resources and raw
materials. In the 19th century, European kingdoms began to give careful
consideration to Africa and a great deal of researchers, explorers and travelers
overflowed Africa. The African mainland was brimming with great sights, beautiful
creatures, interesting scenes and indigenous individuals with their own way of life

white men to bring innovation and technologies into the colonies. Somalia had
every reason to succeed, from possessing a privileged geographical situation, oil,

could have been a great power in the region but unfortunately colonial powers comes
sneaking in, in addition to the wars, piracy and bomb attacks. The three major
powers that colonized Somalia are Italy, France, and Britain, Britain became
concerned with keeping the route to India open through the Suez Canal, which was
opened in 1869 and as a result Britain proclaimed Somalia as a British protectorate

hunting and gathering to agricultural based societies. One way beer could have
done this was that after the discovery of beer, the demand for beer began to
increase. With increase demand for beer, farming would increase taking away time
to hunt and gather for food. With less hunting and gathering, farmers eventually
settled down in small areas around the Fertile Crescent to create beer. What does the

The better wine you drank, meant the more money you made to purchase the wine,

development of Christianity and Islam? The banning of wine in Islamic culture
would be the basic start for the banning of many other foods. The prophet
Muhammad s ban on alcohol is said to have started from a fight between two men
who were under the influence. When Muhammad sought divine help from the one
and only Allah, Allah s reply was to ban alcohol so that such a thing could not
happen again. As for wine, it had a different story for the development of
Christianity. Wine drinking was a tradition of Greeks and Romans. When barbarians
took over Rome and Greece, wine drinking seemed to have halted. But as time went
on, barbarians began to take up wine drinking again, sort of assimilating themselves
into Greek culture. Barbarians soon became civilized, all thanks to the tradition of
wine drinking. Spirits in the Colonial Period (Chapters 5 and 6) How did spirits

spirits accelerated their colonialism. At first, sugarcane production was introduced to

land was not suitable to grow wine vines or grains for beer, instead Columbus
introduced sugar canes to the Indies, creating a major sugar plantation in the West
48. A Political Cartoon Analysis
Having a Master s degree would be nice. After completing 4 years of college and
then going back for a master s degree and graduating with that is an amazing
accomplishment. There is so man benefits that come with this high degree, more
money, better jobs, and more education in the particular work field as the masters.
Let s get this straight, though, going back for a master s degree costs a lot of money.
Just to get a bachelor s degree cost a lot of money so going back to college for more
years will cost a lot more. That s the only downfall of getting a master s degree, the
price. In the political cartoon about a master s degree, the author makes it clear of
the downfall of getting that degree which is the price. He uses color, layout, and
characters to make this point very clear. The first notice of this picture is the color
of it. It is not in pretty colors whatsoever. It is two colors, blackand white. When
people see black and gray, most people think about back in the day when times were
tough and money was scarce. The black part of the picture brings out the gloom...

to the graduate s hand symbolizing that the graduate is stuck and will not be going
anywhere. Also in the photo, the graduate is holding a diploma, but instead of it
saying congratulations, it says DEBT written across it. This depicts that the
graduate, since going for a master s degree, is now in debt. These objects in the
image make it very clear that getting a master s degree will cost a lot of money. The
last rhetorical element that proves the author s point is the characters in the

Executive Summary
Club 24 Gyms
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the current status of Club 24 Gyms CRM
system and how it currently views customer orientation. The analysis of the model
currently being used and recommendations on how to improve this model are
included in the findings. One of the major findings is that there is no real CRM
system in place. Also, Club 24 Gyms believed that it was operating for the customer
but they do not currently have a good method of delivering quality customer
orientation.
Recommendations for this business include implementing a CRM system and
developing an action plan based on Club 24 Gyms core values that change how they

If the employee understands the message Club 24 is trying to convey to the
customer and can deliver it all the time they may keep their job. If the employee
cannot grasp the concepts and values they must be let go. All of the new hires
must be able to respond to a customers needs an enjoy giving the customer the
satisfaction they deserve. Therefore there must be a zero tolerance rule in place so
that if an employee is caught not operating in the interest of the customer they
must be written up. If there is a second offense they are fired on the spot. On the
flip side an incentive plan will be implemented in order to reward those who go
above and beyond to serve and please the customer. Every time a fellow employees
or customers send an email to the manager that states your exceptional service, the
manager will then give out a gift card as a reward. We feel that this will promote an
environment of competition which will also benefit the customer.

In this next step we are going to revamp the current system that Club 24 Gyms has

upgrade our member advisory board system we have come up with some
improvements which will help enhance the current system. One key initiative is to
have a monthly member survey email sent out to our entire customer base. We
would also like to add a member contest in order to add some incentive for
completion of this survey. This would help boost

Abstract
Companies forecast in different ways and for different reasons. For the sake of my
current employer, some of the reasons to why they forecast is to ensure that there are
plenty of cellular phones in stock or even to make sure that the company has enough
numbers to assign to customers when they purchase wireless service from us. The
following paper will compare and contrast various forecasting methods while also
elaborating on the method that my current employer use for forecasting sales and
mobile identification number (MDN) requirements.

Casual relationship is a situation in which one event causes another. If the event is
far enough in the future, it can be used as a basis for forecasting. A good example of
this would be a casual relationship between student enrollment and teachers in a
university. If the enrollment of students is higher than normal than it would cause for
additional teachers to be hired and vice versa. This is considered a casual relationship
since additional teachers would not have been hired if enrollment was not up
therefore the high enrollment causes the increased staff.
Now that I have defined each of the forecasting methods discussed within this paper,
I will now compare them to each other. Of the methods discussed in this paper,
Delphi has no comparison to any of the other three methods of forecasting. Delphi
forecasting is used in conjunction with experts and hypotheses rather than gathering
information from other sources and analyzing them. At the same time, Time series
and Casual relationship forecasting has similarities because each is dependent on
another aspect. Though Time series focuses on the seasonal aspects of things, casual
relationship could very well be dependent on the seasons. For example, the Time
series forecasting is big on farmers for planning their crops; however bad weather
would cause a casual relationship between the two. This reasoning is due to the fact
that the forecast

54. The Effects Of Injury Assessment On Athletes Participating
Soccer like other popular sports has a risk of injury for the athletes participating.
As a part of the sports medicine team it is crucial to be able to treat these injuries
effectively and ultimately have the athlete returning to play as soon as possible.
Injuries to the lower extremities are the most common in soccer. These injuries may
be traumatic, such as a kick to the leg or a twist to the knee, or result from overuse
of a muscle, tendon, or bone (1). This information will be helpful when assessing an
injury. The three steps of injury assessment are, determine the type and extent of
the injury, locate signs and symptoms, and finally compare bilaterally to notice any
deformities (2). Our injury assessment is aided by the popular acronym H.O.P.S.
Which stands for history, observation, palpation, and special tests. History is
crucial for diagnosing an injury and would usually be found out by asking
questions such as, what happened? , Has it happened before? . Asking this can
locate any repetitive motions or actions that have been causing this injury.
Observation is looking for signs, which are observable deformities such as a rash,
swelling, or dislocation. Next is palpation, which is touching to look for pain or
unusual textures on the skin. Finally, special tests, these are used to rule in/rule out
injuries based on specific joint tests. One of the most important things for any sports
medicine team to know is the emergency actions plan for their facility. This is a
55. Wildlife Corridor Essay
Abstract
Proponents of the wildlife corridor concept suggest that by connecting otherwise
isolated portions of habitat, species benefit through gaining access to a larger gene
pool, thus increasing their chances of reproductive success. Despite the
popularisation of this idea over the last several decades, a lack of long term scientific
research has led some to question this assumption.
Factors including the territorial, mating and migration behaviours of individual
species of animal as well as the lengths and breadths of corridors are all assumed to
influence the effect of a corridor individually. As such, a specific corridor may assist
in defragmenting the population of one species, but may not affect another in any
significant way.
The vast tracts of land required by wildlife corridors make a considered assessment
of their assumed benefits an absolute necessity.
Introduction
The following paper aims to critique assumptions commonly made about wildlife
corridors and to assess claims that they make a significant impact to the
defragmentation of wildlife populations.
Information from a variety of sources will be assessed in terms of its accuracy and
relevance in an attempt to determine if wildlife corridors are an effective method to
increase localised biodiversity levels. After key evidence both in favour against the
concept has been presented, any relevant ideas will be synthesised into a
recommendation made at the end of the paper.
How the Wildlife Corridor Strategy Works
56. Health Systems And The Health System
From my point of view, I believe that the health system is facing a hindrance in
providing value to the patient. The inability to provide high quality, low cost health
care is now a double edged sword in our industry. In a time where reimbursements are
made on the patients perceived quality of their treatment, the organization can no
longer afford to run the business off of the volume of patients seen. Moving forward,
I believe that there are many changes that can be made, both internally and externally,
throughout the healthsystem to successfully implement patient centered care, which
would enhance our value chain. Based on the following recommendations, I
believe that the cost savings, or revenue generated, would impact the health system
substantially. Currently we are receiving a 1% penalty on a section of outpatient
physician practices. This proposal would allow for us to cease paying a 1%
penalty, and also allow for us to receive possible incentive payments for striving to
create a high quality at a low cost. To fulfill my proposal, the entire health system
would need to be educated, and willing, to make changes in their daily routines. In a
small community hospital where culture and politics often predict outcomes, this
would have to be a task that bypassed these factors. The clinical staff will have will
impact the most change, but all of the support staff will need to take action for the
plan to be successful. Although initially the proposed action to increase
